We ultimately have to replace our floors bc the grout lines on our tiles are too thick to give it the glow up we wanted but don't hesitate to contact them! Eventually, Alex, stopped by my house to work on a proposal estimate. I found Alex to be professional and easy to talk to. All seemed good. Then, he emailed me his proposal. It was a bit higher than I had anticipated. Regardless, I emailed him to see if we could negotiate the price a bit lower. I reached out to him a couple of times. No response. I contacted his office assistant, Ana, and she attempted to get him to call me back twice. Unfortunately, he did not. I must say I am disappointed with the manner how he handled this situation. I cannot give this biz enough stars. The contractor who installed my Saltillo didn't know how to prep or seal it. For years I had tiles with ugly black scuffs and it was impossible to make the floor look clean. In less than 5 hours Bart and his team gave me the kitchen floor I always wanted. I am ecstatic! Our kitchen floor was looking dirty and stained with missing grout after many years and some tiles were even loose. It was difficult finding someone who would repair Saltillo tile floor and a new floor was way too expensive. Alex and his crew replaced about 25 tiles with tiles we had kept in our garage, stripped old sealer off all the others, deep cleaned the tiles, re-grouted, and resealed all the tiles with 3 coats of satin finish. Alex was referred to me by my neighbor to reseal and grout my slate flooring post water damage. His quote was higher than two others however I believed he or his employees would work to their utmost. I am disappointed as my slate flooring is darkened and black in some area and in cleaning g the slate there is no difference in ease of cleaning. We tend to be very easy going people. We always strive to work with businesses in our local community. We are also very easy to please. We just ask that the people we hire are courteous, friendly and offer quality goods and services. We heard about Alex Stone and Tile through Yelp reviews. The majority of customers seem to be pleased with the service his business provides. In fact, his employees are rather friendly and they do a good job. We felt that they worked very hard to give us the best service possible. However, our main issue was with Alex himself. He is not very friendly. He does not seem to understand the concept of long-term business relationships. He focuses more on short-term revenue. If you question the quality of his work or notice areas that they missed, he becomes extremely defensive. He is quick to call you a liar before he admits his own faults. For that, we cannot work with a company such as his. We feel that businesses should always believe that a customer is always right. They should treat their customers with respect and dignity. Alex is very rude and does not care about the well-being of his customers. He is quick to take the money, but fails to thank you for the business. We felt as if he was doing us a huge favor by providing the service. We almost felt like he was doing it for free, even though we spent quite a bit of money to have him perform the service. If you want to hire somebody that can do the job and you do not care about being spoken to rudely, then Alex would be fine. Alex and his team were awesome! We had them come clean our saltillo tiles in our kitchen and our outside porch. They also replaced a bunch of broken tiles on the porch. Our kitchen tiles had been sealed before they were cleaned so once they stripped the floors, the sludge they dug up on the tiles was disgusting. They scrubbed & scrubbed for hours and then sealed the tile and also redid the grout. Honestly, the floor looks brand new! They were very clean and professional. As for the broken tile out front, the tile we bought to replace them were slightly off color and didn't match the rest of the original tile. They painted it to look like the others and it looks great. I wouldn't say all of this was cheap...the services aren't inexpensive but I would say it is worth it. Well, I wish I could write a review about this service but unfortunately I never had the opportunity to have Alex and company work for me. But I can say the customer service I HAVE had with them has been pretty bad. I have beautiful Vetrazzo recycled glass counters in my kitchen and come to find out that they need to be resealed every year and it's been now 2 years. I had been in touch with Vetrazzo and found out the product they use and recommend. When I first called and spoke with Ana over 6 weeks ago, I asked if Alex would use this product and she had to get back to me. Finally she gets back to me and says that he doesn't and likes to work with a product that he's familiar with because there's no guarantees if he'd use the product recommended,that there could be issues down the road. What? Ok so she wants pictures of the counters because he's too busy to come and see them to give me an estimate. Not good, but I send pictures, measurements and even a short video. She gets back to me with an estimate and final quote of $850. Seems like a lot. Well, I'm still waiting for an hour out of Alex's day to come and see my counters, I'm very hesitant to hire someone over the phone but his next available time to work on my counters will be a month away. So I figure ok, I'll get on a schedule and have a date to have the counters done. At least he'll have time to come and see them at some point! So now I call a week before he's supposed to come to see when he'll be over this week. Ana says he's very busy but how about 8am on Wed. I cancel a class I'm supposed to go to so I can finally meet with him. So now I get an email from Ana this morning canceling our meeting because he has to be on a job and in fact it has been prolonged and he has to cancel the day he's supposed to come here to seal my counters and I should call her to find out when they can do it. Pretty bad. This has been 7 weeks since I first made contact with them. I saw pretty good reviews here on Yelp. I'm in the customer service business myself and I certainly would never treat a promising future client in this way. I'll do it myself. read more

We were looking to have 1800 sq-ft of Arto Brick concrete tile cleaned and resealed. We got 3 bids and Alex was higher than the other 2 bids. I was hesitant to go with the other 2 lower bids because the contractors were overly confident of being able to repair and clean our tiles. When I asked if they ever cleaned this type of custom concrete tile they each said no but it should be no problem. When Alex came by to look at the tile and give me a quote, he was concerned some of the stains may not come out. He explained in detail how the tile was initially installed and sealed. He explained his process for cleaning and sealing and did not make it sound like it was an easy job. After procrastinating for several weeks, Alex email me and asked if I was still interested in having the tile work done. I said I was but was concerned about not liking the outcome of the work if the stains could not be removed. Alex suggested he come by and clean and seal a sample area to see how it turns out. I agreed and he came by and cleaned and sealed a sample area of tile that was in really bad shape. It took him about 2 hours but the tile looked brand new when he left. I was sold. We scheduled a date for the work to start and Alex thought it would take 5 days. His guys work really hard but it still took 8 days to finish the entire home. I was OK with it because I new it was going to be a lot of work and I would rather have it done right. When it came to picking the grout color, I was not happy with the standard grout colors. Alex came by late in the evening to custom mix grout colors until we got the exact color we wanted. He actually put it on the newly cleaned grout so we could get a accurate indication of how it would look. Even Alex was surprised with how the grout color enhanced the concrete tiles and the color variations in the tiles. We are extremely pleased with how the tile turned out and the work Alex and his team did. read more

Once I was ready to start, they were able to schedule an appointment very promptly. Unfortunately, a former company damaged the floor trying to clean it with a machine and left it in a very bad state. Alex Stone & Tile worked with me to get it looking very good despite this. They put in extra hours to make sure that it was what I had expected. They are committed to service and customer satisfaction by making sure the final result was as promised. Called them for an estimate to enlarge a cutout for a BBQ. Alex came and looked. Said he could probably do the job but wanted to think about it. Over three weeks later his office called to say he was really busy and he might be able to get back to me in a week to give me an estimate. Imagine if he were he contractor. He might be able to get to you some time. He's really busy. Really. How busy that you can't provide an estimate or decline the work. My boss has used Alex's services for the past three years. He has been nothing but professional and his office manager - Ana, always returns my calls/emails promptly. Dealing with this contractor was very unpleasant and stressful. The job was done competently but dealing with Alex and his company was quite upsetting. I would not recommend them. I was not told they would not accept credit cards when the work was booked. When the job was finished Alex got all stressed when I told him I had a credit card but not a check as he wanted. My checkbook was in my office and I was out over Xmas break. I subsequently made a special trip into the office on my vacation just to mail the check. I can understand anyone's desire to be paid but I felt Alex was unreasonably nasty. And he always had the option of accepting the credit card if he was so concerned about getting paid immediately. When unfortunately the check didn't arrive in a timely manner (over Xmas break) I got repeated upsetting calls while at work demanding to come pick up another check. I agreed but insisted I first stop payment on the first check (now 4 business days since mailing original check). It took a two hour trip to the bank and 30 dollars to do that in the middle of my work day on my first day back from vacation. I had to leave work to do that because of the harassment of their phone calls. Once that was done they came to my workplace to pick up the check. I was insulted by their agressive tactics and Alex's nastiness that made it clear they didn't believe I ever mailed the first check. That was not the case. These people did not conduct themselves professionally. I regret hiring them. I am a small business owner myself and know that this is not how you treat clients read more

I also found Alex through a Google search, and also ended up with only one sealer coat for our travertine shower. However Alex and his assistant, Guillermo, went out of their way to do the best job possible. Even leaving a fan overnight with us to dry a water soaked wall and stopping by after to return a bottle of sealant that was actually ours (we bought the same brand and it got confused). After almost 20 years of heavy foot traffic in our home, our marble floors were starting to dull and developed spots. We were given several quotes and eventually were advised to replace our marble floors in full. But not Alex! He was positive he can bring our marble back to life, and boy did he ever!
