Fortunately, i've come to discover, this place got a new owner many years ago, and the manager, Ellie, is one awesome dude! They are no longer the place they were before; they now actually appreciate their customers and treat them with respect and back that up by doing quality work! I rediscovered them back in 2012, when a friend of mine who lives nearby recommended them to me. At the time, my Sonata needs it's first major work since I bought it brand new in 2003. The work they did was not only of the highest caliber, but also much cheaper (of course) than the dealer, and noticeably less than my previous go-to mechanic. I've been coming here ever since. HIs team is knowledgeable and prompt. They've never recommended any work that wasn't necessary, and they never stiff me on price or promises. I took my car to get an oil change and was informed that I was in need of new tires( I was aware) , a new belt, which I was shown I was indeed in need off and new brakes( I had not had a brake job since buying my car 5 yrs ago) . So I got a detailed summary of cost and various tire options also with individual prices. When I dropped off my car to get the necessary repairs, I was kept informed via phone calls on the process and it turned out to be cheaper than originally anticipated. Do yourself a huge favor and never let these people work on your car. First off, the sign on the building says "under new management," but I walked in today regarding a problem with the brake job they did in August 2013, and they still have the same manager. In a nutshell, this shop very likely did serious damage to my rear brakes. That's bad enough by itself, but the fact that they are now being belligerent and dishonest has me livid enough to post a review to warn other people. You would think a brake job would be relatively simple, but if you drive an Acura, you'd be wrong. It turns out my car requires special tools to replace the rear brakes. Also, unlike most cars, the parking brake is integrated into the rear brake calipers. This last point is critical to understanding why I think this shop caused my problem. And to be clear, I just learned these details today. If I'd known this all along, I would have immediately taken my car to another shop to repair the work that this shop did. But alas. So... This shop did my rear brakes (pads and rotors) in the summer of 2013. The job took twice as long as estimated, despite no other cars being in the shop. I got a general sense that something was amiss. The day after they did my rear brakes, my parking brake warning light came on. I immediately called the shop to ask about it. They refused to look at the car and aggressively insisted that this sudden parking brake problem had nothing to do with the brake job. Well, as I noted above, the parking brake is integrated into the rear brake calipers on my car, so this was a convenient bold-faced lie to tell a customer who didn't know any better at the time. It's now 14 months later, and not only are my rear brakes already shot (after only about 15K miles of driving), I have what appears to be a frozen caliper that has destroyed my driver side rear rotor. While it's possible that this caliper problem is a random coincidence, the odds are not in this shop's favor. I stopped by this shop today to point out the problem in hopes that they would have an honest conversation about the situation and hopefully offer to cover some or all of the cost of repairs. But NOPE. The manager was friendly when I first walked in and explained my concerns, but as soon as he saw the severe damage to my rear rotor, his friendly demeanor evaporated and he gruffly insisted that a seized caliper has nothing to do with the brake job they did. When I pointed out that my parking brake light had come on the day after the brake job, indicating a problem with the brake job, he again insisted that this had nothing to do with their work. Well, as I described above, this is obviously not true. He was essentially trying to bully me into going away, and ultimately, I had no choice but to give up. Even if this shop does some work well, they clearly don't know their own limitations, and as soon as something goes wrong, they'll stonewall you. Why take that risk? read more

Liars, scammer, money grubbers. I came in to get an inspection on my new car, and I hadn't swapped the plates from my old car yet. They told me it was $15 to change the plates! When I said I'd do it myself, they said there's not a single flathead screwdriver in the building. BS!!! WHAT KIND OF SHOP DOES NOT OWN A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER!?!?! Don't come here, they're stupidly likely to try to rip you off for things you don't need fixed. Never coming here, not even for gas when my car is broken down. Screw these people. read more

Avoid at all costs. We had some work done on our car that involved unbolting the right outer tie rod. Apparently, bolting it back in place was too difficult for the mechanic. About a week after the work was done (we do not drive our car that often), it came lose and the right front wheel on the car became a free agent. I was in the car with my 3 month old son and mother-in-law. We were lucky in that we were not going very fast and were on a quiet road. The car was un-steerable and skidded to a very abrupt stop. We were extremely luck that we were not on a highway or going faster. Gave us all quite the scare. Had the car towed to my MIL's mechanic, and had the car checked out. It was conformed that Alewife Mobil was at fault for our near accident. We will NOT being go back there and will be telling everyone we know to avoid this garage. read more

Will never come back here for state inspection or service. During my state inspection they noted a day time running light was out. Though they did replace the daytime running light they manage to break a headlight in the process and refused to pay for its repair or offer a discount. read more

I took my car here to get inspected. They failed me claiming there was an exhaust leak. They wanted to replace the gasket on the exhaust manifold. It probably would have cost ~$1000 almost entirely in labor. When I got the car home, I couldn't hear any exhaust leak. I took the car to another shop who confirmed there was no exhaust leak whatsoever. I'm convinced this shop tried to scam me into paying them for unnecessary work. The second shop I went to mentioned they had other customers who complained about this shop telling them they needed to have unnecessary work done on their car. I brought my car back here and told them there was no exhaust leak and that I had another shop look at it. They admitted there was no leak and finally passed me. Do not get your car inspected here. Don't get it serviced here. I won't even buy gas here. read more

I brought my car in here twice for repairs and both times it came back with new, major issues. The first time it was something I knew was getting old so I didn't think anything of it, but then it happened again! Second time they told me the break pads, rotors and calipers needed to be replaced but when I looked myself I found that a piece was missing from a caliper. $5 part I ordered online and a different shop fixed it. read more

If you're already driving on Mass Ave, there are a TON more gas stations and Autoshops down the road that will do a WAY BETTER job than this place. Do not waste your time here unless your car broke down in front of it. Brought my car for inspection and was told that my side marker light bulbs needed to be replaced. Marc I think was his name and his latino colleague did not do any better, I didn't catch his name, but I wish I did. Just seemed like a bunch of lazy folks. I asked if he was sure that these had lights in them because they've never been on in my life and he says "Yes I work on these cars all the time, and they all have lights in them and yours are out." Here I am shook af with a REJECT sticker on my car; I brought it to a different mechanic and sure enough these side markers didn't even have light bulbs in them. Lol. So my inspection got rejected because these mechanics didn't even bother to check. Had a friend bring it BACK to Mobil's Autoshop because these guys faces will ruin my whole day again. Asked them to take it apart this time to check.. sure enough.. got my sticker and will never come back here, not even for gas. I'm still so pissed off as I am writing this. They wasted so much of my time. I don't even understand why they're mechanics if they're that lazy. read more

BEWARE of this place. Absolute Scammers and Cheater. I took my car for a state inspection and required a change to my license plate. After a couple of minutes, the mechanic walked me around my car and showed me that he switched the plates but is going to fail the inspection because one of the light bulbs on top of the license plate was missing. Additionally he suggested that the car needed new breaks. I told him I had taken my car to Honda service center couple of weeks back and was informed the break threads are safe and don't need replacements right away. I explained this several times and declined I need any replacement and asked them to give me the report for the inspection. 1.Inspection was failed for the missing one of the light bulb on the license plate, but not for the breaks. Clearly this was not mandatory criteria to fail despite the fact I was misled and was told that I needed to replace the break or else the inspection would be failed. 2. I was informed I will be charged again for re-inspection (quoting "per law"), although per law if you reinspect at the same station within a certain time period, you cannot be charged. 3. I was quoted $45 to replace light plus $25 for parts. I drove to a Honda dealership and picked up the parts. They quoted they can fix for $15. While they opened the back panel on the trunk, they noticed the entire socket was unscrewed and pushed inside. They screwed it back into place, showed me this could have been only removed by unscrewing it and not any other way. I returned the parts and the dealership didn't even charge me for their time. Was the 'missing' light socket removed when the license plates were replaced? I don't have proof, but based on the fact that light socket was manually removed, I can only point to this conclusion. I took the car back to Alewife Mobil and showed the mechanic that the light was fixed. Man, he seems so pissed, started shouting at me and repeatedly asked me why the car wasnt brought back. I can only suggest from his tone, that his dirty tricks were exposed. I am going to formally report this illegal practices to the RMV and hope this state inspection licenses are revoked. read more

Took our two cars for oil changes here on a whim. They took us in right away. Only issue I have is that in this cold weather, there's not much of a place to wait comfortably. They basically have one chair awkwardly positioned in a corner behind the cashier. But hey if you need an oil change and don't care about looks. This might be the place for you. read more

These guys were always friendly and helpful and did everything that needed to be done. I got all my oil changes there and had them do some engine work for a reasonable price when my car broke down. The guys there are friendly and have a good sense of humor. The only reason I gave them 4 out of 5 is because they failed to forsee a major problem with my breakpads and rotors, maybe it's my fault, I never asked them to check them. But it seems like something that should be done when you go in for regular maintenance. read more

Alewife Mobil is the only place I go for auto service. Douglas, the mechanic is very knowledgeable and great in the garage. Anytime I have an issue with one of my cars, Marc, one of the guys over at Alewife explains it to me in normal terms so I understand. I stopped getting quotes from other places, because they are consistently lower priced than anyone else. They are also really fast with their service. Hands down, my new favorite mechanic. Slowly rolled my car into their shop back in October due to my radiator thermostat spiking while on my way out to Western Mass to get married. Needed a new radiator, which they installed (for a great deal!) and had my fiance and I out the door in two hours. Day before Christmas Eve, front axle and ball joint give way. We have the tow truck driver bring it here. Christmas Eve morning, the guys have my car fixed and ready to go by noon. No problems with the car since then (knock on wood!). I found this place by chance a couple of months ago. My car (2000 Nissan Maxima) broke down in front of this station. I met Eli, Mark and Douglas. Nice guys, very helpful and friendly. Since then, I have returned many times for different part changes and I will keep going. I would say that the service they offer values 5 stars. These guys are a good team. Also they allow you to be next to your car while they are repairing it, so you can check and learn what the problems are and how they fix it. Other places I have gone don't do that. read more

I started having them do some service for me this year (friend's recommendation) and have really been impressed with these guys. They're helpful, do the job right and on time, and seem reasonably priced. I've worked with both Mark and Eli this year on a few different things (inspection, brakes, headlights) and have been impressed with how they treat their customers. I have never been here before, so I decided to stop in, as I live in the area. I frequented other shops around town, but I honestly got tired of being lied too and ripped off. So, I brought my junky 2000 toyota camry in about a week ago for a new set of brakes and roters. ( I tried to delay it as long as I could , but could not stand the screeching noise anymore! ) As usual, I expected to get ripped off , but Mike, the manager quickly gave me a fair quote and followed up with his promise to have my car back in time, as I needed it for the weekend. He didn't call me up in a few hours and say "oh by the way your car needs this this this and this" like everyone usually does and your bill that was once a sweet 200 bucks ends up being 2000 bucks for stuff that you probably do not even need ! Anyway, This was a fast and painless car experience! Usually, I procrastinate when it comes to fixing my car because I know hassles that come along with it ! The two workers, Marc ad Ely, are unprofessional. I've been there twice and each time I drive up I see them smoking inside the work area. Secondly, I've gone there twice for state inspections. The first time Ely ripped me off by saying my wipers were broken. I'm no dummy. I know they're not. I told him so but he insisted they were and would change them for me for a mere $24. I know places that sell wipers from $15-$19 of equal or better quality. I thought I'd let Ely change them since why not? Otherwise he'd fail my inspection. Afterwards, it started raining and what great timing. Turns out these wipers are worse than my standard Toyota wipers. The second visit was also for a state inspection for my other Toyota. This is a 2013 Toyota that's been gently used. Marc failed my car because the front tires were worn out and the alignment was terrible. I am someone who knows a fair deal about cars. The alignment is great. If it was terrible I'd be able to tell from the steering wheel. The tires aren't worn out. In fact my first car had worse tires and Ely didn't say anything about it. They're simply trying to get money out of me by making me get these unnecessary repairs. If I were to get repairs, I wouldn't bet my money on them. They'd sabotage it and give me terrible quality material. If I weren't so busy, I'd replace tires myself since I've done them before. Condescending workers who think you don't know anything and try to rip me off are the worst. Think carefully about where you go. We're talking about cars so you're putting your life on the line. read more
