Brought my car to a different shop once for a small service and then to his shop a month later for alignment and wheel rotation. Turned out my tires had practically no tread left and risked a blowout. It wasn't visible without a lift due to the dealership selling the car with the wheels on a larger negative camber. Other shop didn't say anything about it but glad I brought it in because I was traveling out of state frequently at that time. Saved me from a blowout on the highway. Only shop I trust to not just do the service needed at the moment but looking out for other issues or what to expect down the road.

What an incredible find! They responded immediately and came directly to me that same night. Within about 10-15 minutes, my flat tire was repaired, and I didn't have to deal with another tow or wait until morning. What impressed me the most, though, was how safe and comfortable they made me feel. It was late, very dark, and I was alone in an unfamiliar place. In this case, it's because it was absolutely terrible. Upon pulling up, the gas station attendant was extremely rude. He also told me to "get out of the way" if I wanted gas. What's worse is that after the fuel pump had automatically shut off, he repeatedly kept forcing more fuel into the tank. He did this several times and only stopped when I forcefully told him "that's enough gas." Continuing to pump gas after the nozzle has disengaged is an extremely bad practice as it can damage the emission control system, which is a very costly repair. It's obvious that the attendant doesn't care about the customer and instead is more concerned about making an extra buck.

After making comment about how much tires would cost me, the obese white man from the front then said I had a poor attitude and began to go back and forth with me like a child. I explained I had been coming there over 30 years even with my parents and that they would no longer receive my business and I haven't been back since. Extremely rude and unprofessional behavior from the front desk guy. Very disappointed I had to find a new shop. Luckily there are other options closer to home For me. Also side note I got my inspection the same day different shop no new tires.

This place is dangerous and poorly run…read more I had a really concerning experience at the new ScrubaDub car wash in Medford and would strongly recommend avoiding it. While I was on the conveyor belt, the vehicle in front of me suddenly stopped moving -- but the belt continued pushing my car forward. As a result, my car hit the vehicle in front of me and actually pushed it off the track. This is an extremely dangerous situation in what is supposed to be a controlled, automated environment. We had to notify the staff ourselves that there had been a collision. When I asked to speak with the manager, no one went to get them. After waiting about five minutes, I had to walk into the wash area myself to find the manager. When we explained what happened, the manager admitted that something similar had occurred earlier that same day and that they believed a sensor might be broken. If that's the case, the wash should not be operating. Continuing to run equipment that you know may be malfunctioning is irresponsible. Thankfully, there wasn't damage to my vehicle, but the front license plate bolts on my car gouged the bumper of the Mercedes that became stuck. While we were speaking with the manager, another customer approached to report that the wash had ripped a piece of trim off their vehicle. This place feels like a hot mess. It appears they are aware of serious operational issues but are choosing to stay open and deal with the damage afterward rather than shutting down and properly fixing the problem. That's not acceptable when customers' vehicles -- and safety -- are at risk. Avoid this location at all costs.

He aggressively tried to upsell me a battery and cabin filter, and gave humiliating and unhelpful answers when I asked for more information. He shoved my dirty cabin filter through my open car window into my face, loudly demanding I hold it. When I refused, he made aggressive physical gestures as if he were going to throw the dirty filter across the car onto my passenger seat, all while still loudly demanding I take it and hold onto it until they were ready to put it back. No other staff intervened. This blatant bullying caused me to feel trapped and unsafe inside my own vehicle. I doubt very much that Tyrone would have treated me this way if I were a man. In addition, the final service documents he handed me flagged absolutely zero issues with my battery or cabin filter, indicating a huge lack of integrity. I submitted a formal complaint and received a full refund and a few coupons for free services from the Area Manager, but after seeing recent reviews saying that Tyrone is still actively employed here, there is no way I would bring my car back to this location to use those coupons. Even going to a different location does not sit right with me. A refund does not excuse an absolute failure of customer safety and basic integrity. Do not come here.

Nate, Wally, and all the guys at Chico's warrant every ounce of praise I can give them. I am long overdue in throwing some kudos their way. I am a car owner of limited means. It is critical that I keep my vintage jalopy from your grandpa's happier by-gone days (a.k.a. 16 year old Volvo) humming along for as long as possible. Nate and Wally understand this, understand me, and go well out of their way to work with me to keep me and my car happy. Any potential fixes necessary are communicated clearly, with all options laid out and discussed. I am never rushed or given a hard sell. Estimates have always been accurate - no sticker shock. And they often go well beyond fair. I have never had a mechanic before where I leave feeling guilty that perhaps I just took them for a ride instead of the other way around. Just two examples of many: I had a water pump replaced at Chico's 15 months and 5000 miles ago. The replacement failed. Unusual for a water pump, but alas past the warranty period. Didn't matter - Nate and Wally honored their previous work. Earlier, my AC compressor seized up. A bank breaking fix at any Volvo dealership was done for a third the cost, with Nate going out of his way to track down a good used compressor. I am leaving the neighborhood shortly, moving some 30 miles away, but I will still find a way to keep these guys as my mechanics wherever possible. They are one of a kind. Get to know them. They will always remember your name, and give you and your car the best treatment possible. I can't thank them enough! read more

I've lived in Cambridge for twenty-five years, and I've just in the last year found a garage that I not only trust but one that I actually admire. Wally is wonderful, thoughtful, and hilarious--and, from what I can tell, crazy smart. And the mechanics that I've spoken with love cars, know them, and are more than willing to share that knowledge with enthusiasm and precision--and they're proud of what they do. I'm sure many of you, like me, are familiar with the dire pronouncements of general managers, shaking their heads as they deliver their news, vaguely threatening the safety of your family or whomever--and yet not quite willing to let you see the problem itself and to understand it. Well, at Chico's there's nothing like that. It's straightforward. You are encouraged to look at the problem and understand it, and there's always a clear line drawn between actual safety concerns and things that need to be addressed before they get out of hand. In other words, they seem to be working with you as partners working together over the long haul. Anyhow, this is the first time I've posted a Yelp review--I felt almost compelled to do so because it seems so rare to find any business, much less a garage, that's so competent, human, and clearly proud to provide good service. I urge you, particularly any other of you mechanically disinclined academics out there, to give them a try. read more

I have been taking my cars to Nate and Wally at Chico's for years, and it's shameful of me to have taken so long to post this five star review. They are hard working, honest, fairly priced, and have great communication. They should open up a side business helping other small business owners improve their customer service, seriously. I could cite numerous examples of quality service and competent repairs, but here's the bottom line: it may not be clear from the get go what the problem with your car is, but the difference between chico's and other mechanics (in particular the stealerships) is that Chico's will tell you if its there's a question about the diagnosis instead of just fixing something (broken or not) on your dime. Also, if a repair isn't quite right they will work with you until it your happy. Have you ever felt like a mechanic bulllied you into a repair? You will never get that from these guys. You may not like the news when it's an expensive repair, but I really feel confident that these guys will give you an honest shake, and that in of itself is worth something. For For years I've recommended Chico's to any friends or family who ask me, and now I'm sharing that recommendation on yelp. I called into the shop today to pay a compliment to the spanish mechanic in the very front of the shop when you first walk in!! I spoke to one gentleman on the phone, and when I described the person he stated the person I was referring to, name was Pablo, he then thanked me and handed me over to who I think was his manager who I again told the compliment to! I hope Pablos Manager gave him my compliment! My husband brought my volvo in last week and it came home running like brand new! My husband was very skeptical about bringing our car here because we are new to the area, and upon pulling in it looked overwhelmingly busy... he was afraid our car wouldnt get the attention that it needed, and something would be overlooked. Well nothing was overlooked, and everything runs like brand new. When my husband brought my car home and I drove out of my driveway the next day, I felt as if I were pulling out of the car lot and had just bought a brand new car! I am from Brooklyn NY. I was in town on vacation visiting family about a month ago, and as I was getting ready to leave I noticed my engine light was on. This caused me to go into a bit of a panic because the last thing I wanted was to break down on my 4 hour drive ahead of me with my wife and kids in the car. My brother told me about this place, and told me that he had been bringing his car here since he moved out here. So I drove over, and a gentleman named Pablo came out to see what the issue was with my car. He checked the coding on the car, and it pulled an what he referred to as an Evap Code. I was worried about what this was, but he was very thorough in explaining that it was just that my gas cap was loose. He tightened the cap, cleared the code and sent me on my way free of charge. They definately provide great customer service. Most shops dont bother going into detail, or explaining everything, they just say your all set and send you on your way. However he definately made me feel much better about this, and made sure I was informed. 5 Stars for Pablo and Chicos Sunoco, I would definately recommend this shop! read more

We have been taking our cars to Chico's Sunoco for years. We first began going to them after a routine inspection by Walid, the mechanic, uncovered a damaged control arm. This was major news to us as we had just had the VW garage (where we used to get our Passat serviced) conduct what we thought was an exhaustive review of all the car's systems. We had requested the review (which led to some new brakes) because we were about to embark on a 600+-mile roundtrip journey to my family's in upstate New York. After Walid found the damage, we brought the Passat to the VW garage. They were horrified that they had missed the control arm damage! While the VW garage did replace the control arm, we took our Passat and now our Toyota Matrix to Walid thereafter. Walid is an excellent mechanic with integrity for days. Nate, the owner of Chico's, has just as much integrity and is clearly committed to customer satisfaction. I highly recommend Chico's Sunoco! read more

I knew nothing about them when I first walked in 8 years ago for a minor repair and now I so grateful to them for the excellent service they provide. The owner and the mechanics are extremely professional, super nice to work with, always work with my schedule and get the job done fast!!! Went into Chico's for my annual state inspection and was helped immediately by Wally. I was in and out in 15 minutes and was impressed by the speed, friendliness, and professional at Chico's. Wally found a nail in one of my tires; on closer inspection he found it hadn't punctured the tire fully and he didn't charge me anything for the removal, just commented that I probably want to get new tires soon and gave me an excellent price for the job without pressuring me at all or trying to talk me into something. Like another reviewer commented: this is the sort of place where you can go if you don't know much about cars yourself and need to trust the people you're dealing with. Simply the best mechanic operation in the greater Boston area. I had an Audi with low oil pressure. The dealer told me I needed a new engine for $17,000. Nate found a stripped grounding wire that was giving the false indication. Charged me $35 to fix. My secretary had a Kia with a gas tank that gushed back when she tried to fill. It took them three weeks to get to the bottom of the problem. Nate simply would not quit. Solved the problem. The dealer gave up. Any other shop would have given up and blown smoke at her. Honest, smart, hard working. I have five more stories like these about them. They are simply the best. WIsh all American service businesses were like these guys. read more

We were passing through on our way to Maine when one of the tires on our SUV started making loud noises and getting steadily worse. We pulled over and my husband noticed there was a lot of play in the tire. These folks happened to be right next door to where we pulled over AND open, which was a pleasant surprise the day after Christmas! My husband asked them if they had a minute to take a look at it for us and they immediately accommodated. Tonight I called to simply see what time they opened in the morning, because we've had our car repaired there recently and the problem has persisted (after spending 400 dollars) and the gentleman who answered the phone imitated my voice and made fun of me and our car problem. I typically try to do most repairs myself because I'm a DIY guy, but when I can't fix something, or when I first try it myself and then REALLY screw it up, Wally is always there to bail me out. Great place, Nate updated me on everything , he was reliable , he was not trying to throw any curve balls like other mechanics do, was honest and was quick with it. Highly recommend, best in the cambridge area. Very well ran place. read more

He punched my car and then started yelling at me. when i asked him why he hit my car, his response was "I can do whatever i want to your car, i can destroy it if i wanted to. This is my property!" All of this because because i drove through their EMPTY gas station. These people treated me awful and my little brother was scared the entire way to school. what an awful way to start a little kids morning. Side note: took a picture of my license plate and said "you'll see what i'll do with this" I would never go to these very rude and quite honestly, nasty people.

They told me they can do it, but to be safe, I went to a different (my usual) Car Repair shop to get a quote for second opinion diagnosis and repair. Then I went back to Pearl Street Auto and they repaired it for almost half the cost! So far it is working great. Thanks TJ for the excellent service and saving me hundreds of dollars!

I had been hearing a rattling in the front of the car and also wanted my brakes looked at. I was given an appointment and brought my car in. Someone took my car for a drive, came back, and he said to me "your brakes are fine, I don't know what you think you're hearing. Bring it back if it gets worse." They didn't actually even LOOK at the brakes like I had requested. I was still concerned about my car and knew there was something wrong, and brought it to a different shop. This place actually looked at the car as well as drove it and found that needed all new front brakes, calipers, and struts. Well over $1000 worth of work. I'm glad I was able to give that place my money with their efforts and thoroughness. I will never bring my car to Smooth Automotive again.

Deverson isn't very proactive when triaging problems. I had a high-pitched sound coming from the…read moreback of my car and some quick Internet searches suggested I check the fuel pump. Deverson replaced it without testing it- a $1,000 service which did not solve the problem. I later found out it was the amplifier which I replaced myself for $75. I also had an issue with the passenger's seat belt warning light coming on without anyone sitting there which I asked him to look at several times. His diagnosis- "yeah, it comes on without anyone sitting there." Gee, thanks! He also started passing the credit card service fees onto the customer without telling us. He'd say "that comes to $350," swipe your card, then when you looked at the receipt it was for $385. I now take my cars to WAR Automotive Technologies in Malden. They are more proactive at figuring out what's wrong with your car and are more reasonably priced.

Other shop didn't say anything about it but glad I brought it in because I was traveling out of state frequently at that time. Saved me from a blowout on the highway.
