I'm a Albertsons Vons person because I always feel like their produce is the best. But wow. This place. I can't get over their prices and quality!! I will shop at Albertsons or Costco for my usual bulk items, but I think 90% of my food will be coming from here. So AMAZING! .49 for 1 lbs of strawberries, avocados .29 cents each, .79 cents for a dozen eggs and pepperoni pizza for $2.49. It was crazy in there. Everything was so cheap and the produce is beautiful. I just went to sprouts over the weekend and I thought 4 lbs for $5 was cheap for strawberries! This place will save me so much money. And I love that I can buy strawberries and grapes and oranges at the same time. Sometimes i have to tell my daughter, sorry I can't buy grapes because it's $5 a pound. It gets crazy at Albertsons if produce isn't on sale. But wow. This place we went fruit crazy. They carry their own brands so if you want Name brand stuff you will have to go to Albertsons but it's so cheap that I tried out their cheeze it's and lucky charms and my daughter thought it tasted the same. So bring a quarter because you will need it to get a cart, but you can get it back when you return the cart or I just give mine to someone who doesn't have a quarter. The lines seem crazy at first because people have a ton of stuff but you bag your own things at a special counter after you cash out so the lines went quickly. So thankful for This place to open about 2 miles from me. Such a well priced grocery option. I have a Kiehls store ( which has great customer service and 5 minutes from my home) but geez 4.99 a lbs for strawberries and oranges? Forget about it. Lol. This store is awesome! I have been going to here since it opened. It looks like people don't get Aldi. Yes, the availability of products, especially those in the flyers, are sporadic. They have very few national brands. However, the store brands are much better those of Vons and Albertsons and better priced. The cashiers are so friendly and ultra fast. They will call for additional cashiers if the line gets long. Even in long lines, these folks blaze through! I love this place! Sure your first visit is a bit of a learning curve (God forbid people put their carts away which is the point of the quarter). The quarter system also eliminates the need for an employee to go around and collect lazy people's inability to walk 50 feet to put the cart back where it needs to go. Why do I love it here? Everything is so cheap! Aldi actually manufactures and distributes the bulk of the products which eliminates the middle man, thus reducing prices. The store is small enough that I know exactly where everything is and can be in and out in less than 7 minutes. The checkout system is incredibly efficient. They scan everything and just drop it in your cart, you then bag your own groceries. You can either bring bags or buy them (bags are located under the conveyer belt). I especially like that the tellers get to sit, why don't all places do that for their employees?? I find Aldi to be an elevated Smart and Final. I don't feel cheap going here, I feel efficient and cost effective. Eggs can ge as cheap at 59 cents for a dozen! But they're usually around $1.29 Ignore the noobs who wrote their reviews. I live in La Jolla, and this Aldi is 22 miles from my house, but I went there for the first time in my life on the way to a square dance in La Mesa. I wanted to stock up on canned black beans, which was in their ad for 47 cents a can. I bought 24 cans. It looked like it was their regular price. Also came across Corn Flakes (in a Kelloggs look alike box) for $1. Tastes OK, I eat it like chips. I wish I bought more boxes cos this Aldi is so far away. Actually WalMart Great Value prices on some things is much cheaper. Like you could get Great Value 10 oz of stuffed green olives for $1.38, but it costs 99 cents for 5 oz jar at Aldi. This Aldi looks big in the ads and from the outside, but inside it is about as big as a Smart and Final. I was surprised it was so small. read more

A dark warehouse filled with despair. I had read about how Aldi is taking SoCal by storm and they had an ad for pumpkins at $2.99 each, so I thought I would give it a try. I stayed about 90 seconds before fleeing in horror. If ever there was a store that needed to have Beck's "Loser" playing on continuous loop, this was it. A woman next to me had to explain about paying a quarter for a grocery cart. She said, "You're SUPPOSED to get it back if you return the cart," but from the cynical sound of her voice, I think the house usually wins on this one. I gave up on the cart and went in to look at the pumpkins. This was the most dimly lit store I've ever been in - I think the idea is like an ugly date, everything in there looks better in dim lighting. I found the pumpkin bin. Somewhere, the Great Pumpkin is weeping. These were the most pathetic banged up pumpkins I have ever seen. They might as well as have a sign up saying, "Great deals on used pumpkins! Low mileage!!! A creampuff!" As I fled the store, I saw a pyramid of knock-off cereal by the exit door - something like Lieutenant Crunch, I think. I'm not a snob. I've been broke. I've shopped at Food 4 Less and Smart and Final. But this just filled me with existential depression. "Savin' all your food stamps and burning down the trailer park...." Btw, I found a nice, large, perfect pumpkin at Albertsons. Five bucks. Well lit store with carts that are not chained up like they committed terrible crimes and got sent to a SuperMax prison. read more

Though it took a few days to secure a delivery window, I was so impressed with the shopper who texted while shopping to let me know what was in stock. It's more of a basic neighborhood store and there's really nothing special about it nor anything terrible either. I've been other Aldi's locations in different states and they are larger with a better selection than the ones here. I don't know why people are miffed over the cart deposit because it's not a big deal given that you can reclaim your precious quarters after you return the cart, or if you're lazy like me you can just pass the cart on to a nice senior citizen in the parking lot. I also don't understand the bag complaints as I have been bringing my own cloth bags to store for the last couple decades and tossing them in the wash. My kid usually does the grocery bagging at most of the places we shop at to speed things along because he doesn't like the whole process of shopping, I have no idea where he gets that from.. I know that people are impressed with the produce prices, but I tend to get a lot of organic items depending on what I'm picking up, I don't buy organic bananas or similar things because it's a waste of money, but they don't have a large selection and I really do like local produce if I can find it. They do have a good deal on Gatorade which is nice to have in the house when the kid gets sick. Like other people have mentioned, they mostly carry their own brand of items here which my son and I really enjoy mocking for entertainment. They carry a small amount of national brands as well though, side by side with the off label stuff, which is more fun imo when trying to figure out what it's supposed to be. read more

So happy to have Aldi here. I am so glad to see them bring the German system of grocery shopping here - rental cart, area to bag groceries, things other than groceries to buy. The girls that work here need a serious attitude adjustment! They are so cold and rude! All of them. Not just one bad apple here. They all are super rude and not helpful at all. They make yOu feel stupid for asking where something is and act like you are bothering them. Not a good experience at all. And I have been here 4 times. It's the same tho in every time. Pale yolks in their organic eggs... dead and living BUGS in my sealed beans?!?! I was SO excited to have an Aldi here in San Diego. I've heard so much about their great selection of organic and natural foods from friends and relatives who live in other states. We usually shop at Sprouts, Whole Foods, Ralph's, and Costco. When we saw the prices, we were mostly impressed. Some prices were about the same, others were less expensive. It seems we'd be able to replace going to multiple shops and getting most things at just Aldis. We did a full grocery run and I'm SO disappointed! Their quality of organic and food in general is the bottom of the barrel. We will NOT be back. Their organic eggs were had the most pale yolks I've ever seen. In the photo attached are two organic eggs from Ralph's (their generic brand that I complain about to my husband as being pale) surrounded by Aldi brand eggs. They made the pale Ralph's eggs look golden orange. I wish I had a photo of my usual organic eggs next to those brands. Next, we bought pinto beans. Lots and lots of bags. They were full of CRAWLING and DEAD BLACK BUGS!!! I've bought beans my whole life and cleaned thousands and thousands of bags. Some brands are cleaner than others. Dirty beans usually means small rocks and dirt. I've NEVER had bagged beans with bugs in them. I'm so disgusted I can't even look at beans right now. Those are a normal staple food in our diets. Sadly, I see why people in cities not spoiled by the Organic selection my my area don't believe in organic. Finally decided to check this store out rather than just pass by yet another time without knowing what might make this brand different from any other. I'm not sure, but think it is owned by Trader Joe's, but it is not at all the same. The shopping carts (outside) are locked and apparently require a quarter deposit to use. Instead, I simply asked the woman returning her cart who told me if I could have her cart - and when I was done shopping, I left my cart unlocked for someone else to use rather than lock it up (just to get a quarter I didn't deposit to begin with). What makes this store somewhat different is less the food they carry or their prices but that they also stock all sorts of items you might not expect to see. This seems to be a growing trend - with more and more stores of all sizes and price ranges starting to offer a little bit of everything (much of it only briefly and often at a substantial discount) - rather than be focused on and excel at any particular specialty. So, be sure to walk up and down every aisle just to see what's there (that might not be anywhere else). My first visit resulted in me buying things for my phone and car that I never expected to see at a "grocery store". The only food I ended up getting was just for snacks rather than anything for actual "meals". This is also likely to remain the case if I ever go back - to see what else (new) they might be carrying (next). read more

I won't give zero stars because judging by the other reviews, their prices are good. I went in looking for funfetti cake mix and icing. Know what kind of cake mixes they have? White, yellow, and chocolate, take it or leave it. I noticed the place was dismal, I don't know, like a warehouse but dark and kind of sad. I won't be back. A word about the carts. I've ready reviews that claim they lock up the carts because of homeless people, that's not the case. Ok, so I don't get why ppl are complaining about the fact everything is store brand, and that a cart costs a quarter. It's called low overhead. The produce was great for the price- I'm used to shopping at places like 99 cents only and grocery outlet, so I check everything out before it goes into the cart. Eggs, bread, cheese, and meat all cheaper than most full service supermarkets. Milk was $.10 more/gallon, ice cream was a little cheaper than most supermarkets, but there were only 5 or so flavors. Aldi's has some really great European foods- Schnitzel, sausages, cakes, frozen desserts (the German cakes looked heavenly!). Aldi is more like what European markets are like. If you want a huge selection, go to a huge store. You pay more for the food there because the cart is free, someone else bags your food, fetches the cart from the parking lot, has a lot of variety in brands and products.... read more

Cheap, brandless groceries. Sold! I feel like the people giving poor reviews had never heard of or been to an Aldi before. It's not a large store so they're not going to have EVERY single item. Yes you have to use a quarter to get a cart, but you get it right back. If the quarter is such a big deal, walk inside and ask one of the cashiers, chances are there might be an extra one inside. Some of the produce was rotten. Every container of salad and spinach looked old or was turning brown. Some of the bread was frozen and thawing on the shelves, as well almost at their expiration's dates. They did not have a very good selection of food overall. They only had one kind of certain products (toothpaste). You have to pay a quarter to get a shopping cart, which will be returned once the cart is returned (bring coins). It seems like a place where getting only a couple quick items would be better than doing your main grocery shopping. I wasn't a fan of this place and will stick with Albertsons and Vons. Prices!!! .45 cent cilantro, .68 avocados, $2.98 package of fresh chicken wings, .79 cent dz eggs...butter $2.99, assorted potato chips $1.29 bag. Sour cream $1.29, cat food .37 cents can...these are off the top of my head. The store is clean, well stocked and the employees are very friendly. I even have found the other customers are friendly too. I don't mind bagging my own groceries because they have a great bagging area. I just learned it's a German owner whose brother owns Trader Joe's, my second favorite. I literally shop here daily. Cashier Daisa sees me everyday. I came in today and forgot to grab carrots. Asked her to ring me up for a pack. She rolled her eyes and rang me up. My credit card was stuck in my wallet. While trying to pull it out she was rolling her eyes. I paid and went to grab carrots only to notice that they were out. I come up to her get to a refund and she tells me to get back in line. Line was super long. I already stood in a long line for my initial purchase. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. I just love Aldi, I always find my favorites here. The reason I gave only 4 stars is that they discontinue some items (usually the ones with white price label) despite the fact that they sold out very fast. Like the organic cheese pufs for kids which are packed in 6 small bags, just pefect for school or for on the go, they only bring them once a year and they are gone in a blink of an eye... Other items like that are the Thai Cocoa Coconut chips, again delicious but I only found them once and many other items. So you kind of need to buy as much as you can when you find them as you may never see them again. read more

Aldi is one of my top choices to get groceries. They offer a great selection of items. I am amazed at how affordable yet high quality everything is. Some items may not be a major brand name but that hasn't been important to me. I was able to find a 21 lbs thanksgiving turkey at more than have the price of most supermarkets! Normally really love this store for their gluten free options and ease of shopping through the Instacart app without hugely inflated prices. Just bought sanitizing wipes for $2.59 a bargain in today's world, if you can find them.The real bargain everyday is the food!Most food items are Aldi own brand and are comparable to name brand, but for considerably less. Milk, eggs (occasionally less than 99c) canned goods and produce are good deals Paper and toiletries seem to cost a little more. Summary: good prices for basics. We have shopped here several times, will return because we rather like the place. Put your quarter into the slot and grab a basket out front. Get a quarter back when you return the basket. Or smile at your neighbor taking their returned basket and give them the quarter. It is an obvious way to manage baskets and should be used by other grocery stores. Minimal national brand selection with alternative well stocked store brands at a discount. Fresh fruits and vegetables are priced right, good selection of the basics. Aisles are wide, prices are well marked, shelves are well organized. We find surprising inexpensive items on each visit. But think of it as a new type of mini-grocery store with exceptional values. Checkout is a little difference. Put your items on the conveyer belt and the checker puts them back into your basket as they are scanned. Then you move the cart over to a long self service shelf and bag the items yourself. Or you push the cart to your car and bag the items while standing with your trunk open. It may sound inconvenient but I liked it and now wonder why this is not the normal conventional way everywhere. Don't forget to take you cart back for that quarter or I guess leave it for someone else to push into the store and get a quarter profit. read more

This is a wonderful store! Seriously if you are on a budget this is the spot! Typically a weeks worth of groceries runs me about 120-200 dollars for a family of 4 depending on what is in the menu for dinner and how full or bare my pantry is. Today I got a full cart full of groceries for $95! That included items like: Almond Milk, gallon of Apple Cider, yogurt, eggs, bread, cheese, cereal, etc. The standout deal of the day had to be the eggs which were .79 per dozen!!!! Not even a dollar! I bought 4 cartons! The store is super clean, well organized, has friendly staff, and a wide range of options including household and seasonal items. You can truly do the bulk of if not all of your shopping here. You are also in luck if you buy organic or gluten free as they have many options. They also carry a wide range of international items as well. I just bought Oktoberfest Brats that were imported from Germany! Way cool! A couple things to mention: 1. If you never been to Aldi make sure you have a quarter to use for the cart. You get it back if you bring your cart back to the return. 2.
