Trader Joe's - First time in La Mesa 4/1/26 - Grocery Near Me - La Mesa, California

Update 05/07/2021 .... if I was a really good cook I would spend all of my money in here buying their produce, meats especially their ground beef and various sauces for different dishes. .... i'm not a great cook so I buy a lot of their frozen things but I do get a lot of their side items and condiments and they do not disappoint. Today I picked up their crispy jalapeño chips and they are outstanding. $2.99 for a little container that holds a lot. The gentleman at the cash register told me he puts them on his eggs and everything he could possibly think of. I put it on a little chicken slider with some buffalo and ranch, and bacon and it did not disappoint with the jalapeño chips!!!! I was driving into the parking and saw at the bottom of a man's cart he had some beer called Flat Tire. I've watched the Bosch series on Amazon Prime (thanks to Miss Britt!!!!) and he would always order that beer. The gentleman at the register was so impressed with my purchase and he stated it's one of his favorite, he loves it super cold, it's hard to find because of all the other craft beers out there, but when you do it's a great buy. I told him I'm not really a beer drinker but because I saw Bosch drinking it I just had to try. He said it won't disappoint ;) The store has so many seasonal things in anything chocolate peanut butter I'm definitely buying. The store has basically opened up to high near full capacity. They'll know longer issue you your shopping cart you can grab it and wipe it down yourself. You can also bring in your reusable bags now. They pretty much have everything fully stocked a lil after noon today,but they're missing a few boxes of the chocolate peanut butter Joe Joe's I had to snag a few ;) read more

This Trader Joe's location is one of the cleanest! They have the freshest produce. They have different fruits that you won't find in regular grocery stores. They have teeny tiny grapes that are soooo sweet, perfect for a charcuterie board. The check out lines aren't too busy. Usually it's easy to go in and out other than peak hours! read more

I frequent this store as I live 3 miles away. Today's experience getting Halloween mini totes left a bad taste in my mouth. There were 2 ladies that were passing out the totes, the younger Spanish lady was so friendly and nice while the older white brunette lady made the experience a negative one, including the older blonde cashier lady as well. I brought my 8 yo daughter with me so we can get 8 totes total so she can gift to her friends for Halloween. After I paid and left, there was barely a line so I went back again and the younger Spanish lady was handing me 4 bags and the older lady stopped her and said "you already went through the line!" and I said yes I stood in line again and she gave me a nasty look and said "it's 4 limit per person per day!" Well as I walked out, I saw a dad w his kids who got 8! So I went back in and asked for a manager. And sure enough she was a manager, I explained my situation and even she said it was alright that my daughter is able to get a set of 4!! Please get some cheerful staff that are happy to give out bags instead of policing them like they're gold. This was the first time I've experience such nasty customer service at any TJs. 3 stars because the manager rectified, grabbed the bags for me, and I didn't have to stand in line for the 3rd time. So many of my friends were able to bring their kids in to purchase as well... not sure why she had to make it so difficult. read more

Valentine's Day is covered at this location. I appreciated the great amount of items that they offered here. From cards, flowers, snacks, cakes, cookies, crackers, to chocolates, candy, croissants, and everything yummy. The staff here is very helpful. They are very much willing to assist if needed. We came on Super Bowl Sunday to get some items for the game and for the normal home pantry. Overall, a great visit. read more

I love Trader Joe's it's my absolute favorite when it comes to veggies and fresh fruit. Here I don't have to worry about recalled items like I do at the other stores which shall remain nameless but ifykyk. I'm almost scared to shop anywhere else besides here and a good ole' street market from local growers. We went here to buy the mini tote bag in pastel colors. The store was really nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. They were very well organized and very welcoming. Everyone in line were able to get their mini tote bags as they were really so hard to get. Besides the mini bags, we enjoyed our food grocery shopping. I love their wine selection. Love reading Trader Joe's newsletter online for new products and recipes while also creating a shopping list. Surprised and delighted to see so many new items this February so close to all of the seasonal items offered just a couple of months ago. The descriptions are tantalizing (kudos to the writer and creators) and am looking forward to shopping this week. One caveat -- wish I could send a shopping service when I know what I want but that won't stop me from visiting my local store. read more

I came in for a few things and ended up with seven bags of groceries . lol I love how Trader Joes consistently has new products on the end cap. I'm one of those that likes to try them out. Wanted to love this new Trader Joe's location because the Crew are so friendly but maybe they are too polite to uphold boundaries so ALL customers can have a good shopping experience. It seems that everything goes here as all dogs are allowed and there is no sign outside like other locations that specifies only service dogs. I understand and support fully trained service dogs ready for public access or service dogs in training being allowed. But saw too many dogs sitting or standing in shopping carts (where people put food that will then go on their countertops, tables, or fridges/freezers) and some of those dogs were barking at each other. In addition to the aggressive drivers in the parking lot, fighting through the line of cars waiting to get to Costco, and the rogue, unsupervised kids running around with mini shopping carts, this Trader Joe's location is not for the weak. Come prepared (or just go to another better run location). read more

I didn't realize the TJs moved from their previous location. I was in the area and needed to pick up some milk, and saw this location was close. Pretty good layout, but I found myself a little lost since I'm used to the one on College. Grabbed some gluten free flour and cocoa powder as well. Also some black bean and quinoa chips which were good. I arrived about 30 minutes before closing so it wasn't too crowded. The workers are friendly so pretty chill experience. I was shocked when I saw I had not written a review for Trader joe's, as many times as I have been there since they opened. When we had the grocery strike back in the 90s I switched to Trader Joe's, Sprouts, and Vine Ripe, not to mention the 99 cent Only Store (now closed, sadly ) for my groceries. I was in Amarillo for 6 years and I really missed having a Trader Joe's around and have really enjoyed being able to go to one again since I've been back in San Diego. For the record I have also been to Trader Joe's in arizona, texas, Michigan and maybe more. One thing I have noticed about every location is they seem to have the nicest most helpful employees! People who seem to really enjoy their jobs. And they have the best tote bags of anybody! Super sturdy and cheap. I have bought bags from every location I've been so I have quite a collection of bags from different cities. I love the fact that they put the names on the bags indicating the location. It's like having useful postcards from my travels. read more

Trader Joe's fan for life right here! Hi, hello!! The customer service at all Trader Joe's is amazing but, I especially love the team over at the La Mesa store. They are always excited to share new items with me whenever I'm there and, give me tips on what to pass up and what to actually get as well. There have been times when they randomly will walk up to me and ask me if I want a cookie or something sweet. I never pass up the chance lol!! They never miss!! For this trip I needed a few items to make an appetizer and dessert for a gathering. I needed something quick to make and delicious of course. The items that I got were: Steamed Lentils Bruschetta Sauce Crumbled Feta Crackers for dipping Dried oranges Strawberries Dates Biscotti I made a lentil dip/salad with the lentils, bruschetta sauce and feta I made a small dessert board with the strawberries, oranges, dates and biscotti Everyone at the gathering fell in love with the dip and the freshness of everything that was on the dessert board. It was all a hit and took me less than 20 mins to make it all. Win!! I will definitely be remaking both!! The ambiance at this location is always fun and inviting! The store is always clean and, there is always, always someone around to ask questions to. read more

This is my favorite Trader Joe's in San Diego county! The staff is super friendly and helpful. Sometimes items are out of stock or not on the shelf which makes it a little frustrating but the staff is always helpful, and will check in the back. I love Trader Joe's. Good food at a great price point. Customer service is always great. I especially love going for their flower selection. The only gripe I have is over their parking situation. I've come and gone numerous times due to a lack of parking. This last time, I had a Karen/Kevin couple swipe the parking spot I was waiting for. There's not a single thing I don't love about Trader Joe's. Prices are reasonable, variety is large, and staff is always friendly! The store is always clean, and I never have had an issue with them being out of stock when I needed something (with the exception of the seasonal items). Watch out for theft!! This was my favorite TJ's location but I sadly will not be frequenting anymore. I walked into the store with my phone and had it in the cart. By the time I was ready to check out, I went to look for my phone (as it has a wallet attached with my credit cards) and it was nowhere to be found. I am incredibly grateful to a kind employee who allowed me to use her phone to call my mom. When my mom checked my phone's location, it was on the 8 freeway. Before locking my cards, the thieves attempted to spend $500 at Dollar tree, purchase cryptocurrency (??) and sent my mother what I now know is a scam text in an attempt to get my Apple ID and access my data. What made this situation much worse was that as I was working with the Trader Joe's staff, ANOTHER girl walked up to the staff member who I was working with, saying that her phone was also missing. If you value your belongings, do not patronize this Trader Joe's location or at the very least, keep a close eye on your items at all times. read more

In 2020 I unfortunately lost 3 streams of income on the same day do to Covid shutdowns... I'm an esthetician, massage therapist and makeup artist. I'm from Yuma, Az & miss having a Trader Joe's close. So while we were here in La Mesa I was excited to see one so close to where we were staying!! Score!! I wandered down every isle so I didn't miss anything that I might need! The fresh flowers & fresh fruit were all beautiful. Asked one of the staff members where something was & they walked me to it! Now that's customer service! And with a smile! It's a pretty large store & very clean. The cashiers were so sweet & friendly. Had to pay 10cents for a bag which in Arizona we aren't charged for bags. This place is spiritual. I have been to so many TJ's in San Diego and not a single one has the vibe this one does. The people at checkout are the funnest people I've ever met.
