My mom always shopped at Aldi when we were growing up so when I saw this was coming to my area, I was pretty excited. I felt like it would really help me save money and since it is close to home, it would be easy to stop here on the way home if I forgot something or want something different for dinner.
My first trip was with my husband just to walk around and see what they had in the store that we would buy and to check out the prices. I was impressed with how spacious the store is and that I wouldn't be stuck in the maze. The Aldi I grew up with was literally a maze and you could not go from one aisle to another but that is not the case here; and more than one cart can fit in the aisle!!!
We normally do our pantry shopping at Target and meat, dairy, and produce from Sprouts. We decided we will always keep our Sprouts trip but we compared prices with Target to see what was better for the items we purchase, it is just the two of us so we don't need a ton of groceries each week and the items we buy are specific. Between cartwheel and our redcard the prices are very comparable to Target, some of the prices for the things we buy were actually cheaper at Target. Since the prices for the items we get are so similar and we would still need a Target trip to get household items, we are going to stick to our Target trip.
Just because we are staying with our Target trip, doesn't mean I am not coming to Aldi though. This has become the store that I always go to when I decide I want something different than originally planned for dinner, pick up what I forgot, or just pick up a craving because sometimes you just want cinnamon rolls. Also, they have Halo Top here at an amazing price!
The people who are complaining about the store are people who must have never been to Aldi or have never heard of the reason why they can keep their prices so low. Everything is warehouse-like because putting out a box of goods takes 2 minutes and filling a shelf can take 30 minutes. That is 28 more minutes of pay for a staff member and that means higher prices for goods because the pay has to come from somewhere. Also, Aldi is pretty hands off for that same reason. If you need someone to hold your hand while grocery shopping, go somewhere else and pay triple the prices. That is also why 98% of the items there are store brand. The carts are like that nationwide and you don't really pay to use them since you get your quarter back, just don't be a lazy piece of trash like people at other stores and take care of your darn cart! If you can't take care of your cart, you shouldn't use it anyway.
Overall, I have always been happy with my Aldi trips. No, I don't do weekly hauls here but I am still shopping here and I am always happy with what I get. read more
