Before we get to the juicy bits, I'll say that this cost-effective grocer is located on Route 59, near a movie theater and Paris Bistro (a terrific French restaurant). It's a larger, newer building than most other ALDIs boasting a decent selection of wine/beer. I noticed that prices were a little higher than at our ALDI on Boughton & Weber, but maybe that's to be expected in Naperville. They didn't have frozen meatballs or chicken tenderloins from what I could see, which hasn't been an issue before. Maybe the latter is related to that chicken flu? What transpired before I even walked in was absolutely wild. A few feet from the entrance, a guy angrily accosts me while pointing a finger and hurling profanities. This male Karen was several orders of magnitude angrier than he needed to be, a real-life equivalent of cartoon characters when steam pours out of their ears: Pissed off guy: "Do you always nearly run over kids with your car, dipsh*t?!?!" Me (confused, convinced he's speaking to someone else): "uhhh dude what on earth are you talking about??" Guy (irate): "Yeah you, dipsh*t, I saw you back over by the Panera and I FOLLOWED YOU HERE." Me (now concerned a random person was hunting me down): "I'll be honest with you man, I have no clue what you're getting at, but I was watching the road the whole time, there's no kids around here, and you need to seriously chill out." An older middle aged white woman came up to my sister and I in the produce section to harass us about using the produce bags. She claimed she worked at the store, had been watching us, and asked us why we were taking produce bags. Mind you, this woman had a cart, no name tag, and no uniform on. We told her that we were getting produce with the produce bags? Even with that answer she kept harassing us and asked why we put the bags into our basket and what we were using them for?? What on earth could I possibly use a produce bag for in a grocery store? Did she think I was going to poop in the bag and leave it there? The reason why I believe this woman when she said she works there is because after she was done harassing us she went over to the doors that go to the back fridge sections and started chit chatting, laughing, and hugging the employees with actual uniforms on. I'm not sure why this woman decided to watch two POC girls and to grill us over plastic bags of all things. She didn't even talk or look at any other customers. Just us! Inclined to say that it was racially motivated discrimination. Disgusting behavior. I tried to continue shopping but it felt so gross that employees were potentially watching and judging us the whole time. What if I grabbed an apple wrong? They'll interrogate me why it's bruised! We left shortly afterwards. Guess I'll put a pick up order at Walmart instead. I'm not sure what kind of training these employees are getting but is it that wild to think that customers would use the provided produce bags in the produce section? If the store is hard up on money and can't afford to provide 0.5 cent plastic bags then maybe the store has bigger issues. I wouldn't be shocked if this store tells their employees to count the toilet paper sheets when going to the toilet. Questionable whether or not we'll come back to this location. However, I'm definitely telling everyone I know about this experience. Avoid using those plastic produce bags otherwise, you'll also be questioned on your audacity to use their facilities!
