Cashier tried to keep MY cart that I paid $0.25 for because she gave her cart away. She SAW me on line with my cart I pushed throughout the store. Cashier number 2 at 2:45pm on Friday August 29. This is not your grandmothers supermarket! That is unless she came from Europe, then yes, yes it is. If you are not familiar with the brand, this is not like any supermarket you have ever gone to. Similar concept, but they do things very differently than what you might be used to. *******Critical things to know: You need a quarter for the shopping cart, then when you return it, you get it back! BYOB, bring your own bag, or take a cardboard box that is in the aisle. You can buy a bag or freezer bag for a fee. Most products are self labeled / generic. So if you are looking for Campbells soup, or Doritos etc., this is not your store. This was my local Aldi until one opened up closer to home. Staff is decently friendly. Place is clean enough. As a German, I am used to this store and its offerings. KISS Keep things simple S*****. Germans are masters at efficiency. For a store that size, they hire about 1/3 the staff that other markets would hire and pass that savings on to you. Think of it as a mini big box warehouse store. Everything remains mostly in the shipping box, instead of displayed beautifully on shelves. Employees "stock" shelves in 1/20th the time lol! I love coming here for the Christmas season!!!!!! So many German and other European specialties that are imported. From Lebkuchen to Stollen, all I can say is Lecker! They usually have 1 or 2 checkout counters open, and they could have a 3rd, but the line moves fast enough for the most part. I do also notice, that many items are hit and miss. If you want something, come early and get it otherwise it might not be there in the afternoon. All in all a wonderful store, and as long as you don't mind brand names, this is your store. read more

Been coming here for a few weeks, great store for some staples cheaper than the bigger shop-rites and stop n shops but be careful on some dairy. Purchased half/half for our coffee drinking house about 10 times. We find that it starts to turn within a few days (usually less than a week). The last one I bought before labor day weekend is already turning while it has a sell by date of early October, today is 9/6. This has happened over 5 times in the past month. I love Aldi! You can't go wrong here, yeah you have to bring your owns bags. It's called saving the planet guys, get with it. Plus in most of Europe this is how it's done. You also have to invest a quarter into a shopping cart then get it back when you return the cart. If you ask me, that's pretty smart. You won't find any shopping carts roaming around the parking lot here. Personally I'm not gluten free but anyone who is can find a huge assortment of things here. They have plenty to choose from. While this isn't your typical supermarket, yeah I don't do the bulk of my shopping here, it's still great! I feel like I find some good products when I come here. It's great for snacks too. Lots of fun new things to try at a great price. The real drawback to this store is the layout, it's a little messy. I feel like they're always missing a few workers too. The store could be better stocked and have more registers open. I'll still come back once a month and find some great things. The parking lot isn't bad either. It's big so even if you park far away there's always a spot, just a little more exercise. read more

I shop the East Rutherford location every day and I was treated rude upon returning an item. The sarcastic cashier abruptly said "get back of the line," I told her it was just the one item and It's my second time at the store today and she shouts into the intercom for a manager to the front of the store. It could have been said in a nicer way and if that's the policy post it or put it on the receipt. I'll be driving ti Lidls now! read more

Somewhere between the dairy , warehouse, delivery and the stocking in Aldi's fridge its not being refrigerated. Aldi in in a strip mall and is small when compared to the local supermarkets. They are more warehouse style and you need to bring your OWN BAG !!! They have about 80% knockoff brands that look like the real thing with different names but same colors on the packages and some for real, popular brands as well. They also carry some produce and dairy products too. The main selling point here is everything cost less than the regular supermarket but since they are small you still got to go to your regular supermarket anyway. So if your a bargain hunter then by all means check them out else your not missing much. read more

I'm not a fan of this place at all, but my mom loves it! I like to call it the " fake" store. Practically 90% of the store is fake name brand imitation of the foods we all love and grew up with. The store is very unorganized, you'll find some frozen pasta in one section and in 2 other sections as well. If you don't care if your food is generic, this is your place! This spot is pretty affordable even for some organic items. Just be careful because some things expire fairly quickly with a minimum shelf life. Cart costs $.25 and each bag is $ .10, you bag your own groceries, the cashiers just sit there, LITERALLY, they have a seat while working the register the entire time, while you bag all your items. read more

I'm not a fan of GMO's or high fructose corn syrup. You'll find a bevy of both with your traditional name brand grocery items. At Aldi you won't find those name brands, instead you'll find brands you've never heard of that don't contain fillers and byproducts. Many will turn their nose up at this place and I welcome that. Honestly, you probably deserve as much high fructose as you can possibly get. For those that shop here regularly, make sure you peruse their floor freezer closest to the register. It contains goodies that they don't regularly carry--items like one pound wild-caught salmon steaks and imported Italian sausage for prices too low to mention. The prices are less than Trader Joe's, and I find that with the items I purchase, the quality is better too. Just make sure to bring your own bags and use those fine motor skills to bag those groceries as fast as possible. There isn't much counter space... read more

For everyone else you might want to give this place a visit as your wallet will love you! You will need a quarter for the shopping cart and some bags for your groceries. The quarter will be returned to you and you can purchase bags if needed. $40-$50 will take you far here. I normally get fresh produce, meats, beverages, baking needs, bottled water, organic items, pastas and utensils. They even sell household items , seasonal items and electronics. I love it here. I am an Aldi's fan. It reminds me of how grocery stores were when I was a kid before super stores became a thing. Aldi's stores are smaller. They do not have a bakery, a butcher, a deli or florist They also operate with a very lean staff. You bag your own groceries and they do not provide free bags but you can purchase bags if you forget to bring yours. Aldi's employees all work very hard and they do everything from cashier to stacking the shelves. If you need something you might need to look a little harder because there are no idle employees in this store that I have seen. They do run out of stuff because shelf space is limited. They mostly sell their own house brand which is very good and priced competitively. Their produce prices are pretty darn good and fresh. Love their produce and dairy products. For basic grocery items like milk, eggs, bread, yogurt, cheese, fruit and vegetables the savings is great. Their meat products are all prepackaged vacuum sealed so only tried a couple of items. They were just okay but I prefer fresh over prepackaged. I love their diet green citrus tea better than Lipton. I also like their frost sparkling seltzer drinks. Each time I go I try a different store brand product & we have been disappointed. I filled up a cart and only spent $66 bucks. They have many organic products at non organic prices. I came here for products to make a smoothie and they didn't even have bananas that day. I have never been to a grocery store that didn't have bananas. As an Aldi employee, it is very disappointing every time I visit the East Rutherford location, not being able to find what I'm looking for at all times. If I go early in the morning, they are pretty behind on the stocking. I hardly find what I'm looking for and if there are any items left they are not fresh enough to my taste. In the middle of the day there is TOO many out stock items, especially on perishables, in the evening the store is always so messy and dirty I'm never satisfied with my visit at this location. Aldi is simply amazing. Nearly all of the products here are their private label with interesting "brand names", but do not be scared away. Not only are their prices out of this world and dirt cheap, but the quality of their food is fantastic and many times they're better than the brand name product. They have one to three types of almost any food product you need. They even have cool seasonal products. Sounds like i'm advertising, but Aldi will quite literally cut your grocery bill in half. With this said, it's worth the 20 minute drive up to East Rutherford from Bayonne. It's the perfect place to fill up your pantry and save lots of cash. The location is a bit awkward to enter, but there's a Panera, Dollar Tree, and Marshalls in the same plaza. Love this place, I just wish Bayonne or Jersey City had one. They are also from the same parent company as Trader Joe's! This is the cheapest grocery store ever. Like others have said, be sure to bring a quarter for the cart and your own bags (otherwise you have to purchase bags). Cash or Debit Card only. The lines can get long, but the clerks work very quickly (look at an Aldi brand product and you will see that there are bar codes on every side of the product - that's so the clerks can scan things very quickly!), and they put everything back in your cart, so you have to bag it yourself. It's kind of funny because all of the Aldi brand products are made to look exactly like the regular ones! Sometimes it feels like you are shopping in a fake grocery store from a movie where they don't want to use any brand names. Everything is very comparable, with a few exceptions. But it is usually worth the price to try it to see if it is a good product. We stock up on the store brand Five Hour Energy whenever we go. At a little over $1 a piece, it is the best price I've seen. Other items we get exclusively at Aldi are zip top plastic bags and their shredded cheese. There are always new products to try and surprises to find, which is nice. My husband is a fan of their frozen steak fingers (like little mini-chicken fried steaks). I don't usually buy their meat products - it's just not great quality, overall, though sometimes you can find great deals there, too. If you haven't been to an Aldi, it is worth the trip for sure. read more

So I received a $5 off $30 coupon for the new Aldi grocery store and decided to check it out. I checked out their website and liked the concept behind the store. Aldi is a small store that stocks only the most popular items. They don't take credit cards and they charge 10cents for bags. They are doing these things to keep costs down and also to be ecologically friendly.......which are both great things and am happy they are doing this. So, I went to the store and I just was not feeling it. They carry very few name brands. I never heard of most of the brands they had. They have small selections of dairy, meat, frozen produce, baked goods and general groceries. So I felt like I was in the no-frills section of an Acme while shopping here. Nothing really appealed to me. The small selection of produce did not really appeal to me. There is no organic here. They had a lot of Chiquita bananas but most were ripe with brown spots already.....they would have to be eaten within a day or two or they would have gone bad. The romaine did not look great either. It looked like most of their unknown brand sliced bread did not have high fructose corn syrup, which I was happy about. The problem was the whole grain white was going to expire in 4 days. I found plain white with a 6 day expiration so I was forced to buy that. I had high hopes for this store but just really did not find it appealing. If you don't care about brand namesand a large selection and are just looking for cheap prices this might be the place for you. I didnt even spend $30 so I could not use my coupon! read more

What happened since the renovation? The inventory is poor, the prices have shot up, the shelves are never full and the lines are longer than before. I used to like to get in after work and pick a few things up but now if you need 3 items there is a fair chance you'll go 0-3. Good luck trying to get 1/2 & 1/2. It went downhill rapidly. I even question the renovation. Not much was really done. After another wasted trip tonight I plan on giving it a break for 3-4 months. If things haven't changed by them I can assure you my family will not shop there. Parts of the store looks like a supermarket before 20" of snow on it's way or if it were looted. read more

I am beyond disgusted that I didn't see this earlier. I ate from this batch. I saw this bug in the bottom as I was taking out the bad strawberries and I screamed. Idk if it was dead or alive but I threw all the strawberries out and I also checked the blue berries and threw them away. I am so relieved I didn't eat the whole pack!! Omg I saved myself from eating that nasty bug. I am so mad cause what if I have given that to my nephews or anyone for that matter. They now have 'The Chicago Mix' aka caramel & Cheddar cheese popcorn mix by Clancy. Pop one of each in your mouth & get the party started! Love this place since the items are inexpensive. At first, was a little nervous in buying perishables (meat, dairy, produce) - but quality was pretty good. From time to time we found European/ German goods. Also go to the one on Tonnelle in North Bergen since it's actually closer. Items in both stores were pretty much the same. We have been shopping at both North Bergen and Rutherford stores for months - the staff have been friendly and helpful. Cash or debit card only + BYOB (bring your own bag(s)). read more

I went to this place for the first time because I hear good things about their diapers well there was only one cashier and a long line. People were very rude with rushing to put their things on the belt that the person behind me threw his stuff onto my things. Then I go to pay and she was charging me for a bag since when do we have to pay for bags? And to top it all off when I get home and open the box of diapers they had a very horrible chemical smell! Horrible experience, will not be shopping with Aldi ever again. read more

I'm not a fan of Aldi because I am a brand girl but this isnt the only reason why I hate this place. Everything is all over the place and you have to bring your own bags. Well, they have bags but you have to pay for them which is rediculous. 99 percent of the time there is only one isle open, making the line super long. How does a grocery store have ONE isle open?! Plus Aldi workers are scanning items while sitting in a chair and they expect us to bag our own stuff. Only come here cause my Grandma likes it cause it's cheap. You need to understand the concept of this store. It's not name brand. It's really cheap. This is not Whole Foods - get with the program folks! If you are looking for anything other then basic feed your family on a budget needs, go somewhere else. For the rest of us, I find this to be where I do most of my shopping. I don't care about brand names for most of my foods so this place is perfect for my needs. We buy my daughters school snacks here and they are half the price of everywhere else, just with a different name on the box. They carry a lot of the vegan staples I am looking for like almond milk, bread, some frozen items. They have organic items under the name "simply nature" or something like that. I'd steer clear of the produce unless you're planning on using it the same or next day. You really can't go wrong with the frozen foods and canned goods though. Make sure you bring your own bags and a quarter (that you get back) for the shopping cart. No credit cards either but you shouldn't be charging your food anyway, right? I especially appreciate this store because not only are their prices incredibly low, but they pay their employees a decent wage that is well above the state minimum. I love this store. It's clean, the associates are friendly, and their prices are fantastic. I've never had a problem with their food quality. Their dairy products, especially yogurt, are very cheap but the same quality you'd find for brand name. Just know they only accept debit cards, not credit. read more
