    Pabellon Criollo

We visited on Friday night and were surprised it wasn't packed based on the reviews I've read but I think it helped that it was the day before the 4th. We got there around 7 and were able to get a spot at the bar, the only down fall it was on the back side behind the Margarita machines which put us out of eyesight of the staff which I was worried about. We were however greeted almost immediately after sitting down and put in our drink order, 2 swirl margaritas. The menu read as Lime-Orange, Pineapple Margarita with House Red Sangria, so we thought we could choose our flavor to accompany the Sangria but were pleasantly surprised it included all 3. It was definitely more of a pineapple delight to me than a margarita however I wasn't mad about it. It was almost like a nice tropical drink while being on vacation. For appetizers we started with the empanadas. The menu says Best in Town and let me tell you, they did not disappoint!!!! Hands down the best empanadas I've ever had, like I am already dreaming of going back for more. You get two per order with your choice of beef, chicken , veggies, ham and cheese , ricotta with spinach and they are served with cilantro and garlic Aioli. I was able to get one chicken and one beef, and both where phenomenal however I would get the beef time and time again. For dinner my husband got the Grilled Picanha and fries which was cooked perfectly and one of the best steaks I've had out in quite some time. I got the Pabellon Criollo, which is a Venezuelan National Dish with white rice, black beans, shredded beef (flank steak 8 OZ) and sweet plantains. It was also really good, the beans had amazing flavor and the plantains were perfect (I don't like them too mushy, I love them thinner with crispy edges) Them menu description said it's beef, flank steak) but it looked and tasted like pork. Either way it was still delicious just not entirely what I was expecting. I definitely can't wait to go back for more empanadas and to try other things however it will be in the cooler months. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because of the opened garage doors. It was an incredibly hot day and even though we were inside at the bar we essentially sat "outside" bc there were several garage doors that were opened. It was hot and muggy, and tons of flies were flying around us and out food. Even the wait staff seemed to be hot and miserable which I know is not fun. There was another side to the restaurant but it was hard to see from the bar so I am not sure if there was additional seating we could have chosen.

Our dining group of 12 met here for our monthly dinner for a Saturday evening. Free parking on surrounding streets and a lot behind the restaurant. Entrance is easily accessible. Each diner ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees, including fish, chicken, and steak. Presentation was very appealing. Everyone was very complimentary of their selections. Service was excellent and very attentive. Noise level was quite high and allowed for conversation with only immediate table-mates and impossible beyond one to two seats away.

I visited with friends on. Wednesday evening for an early dinner. Sadly, no happy hour, and while we had made a reservation the space was fairly empty and not needed. I ordered the lettuce wraps with chicken, no red onion, and these were a great choice. My friends split a set with pork and also gave them great reviews. The tostones were fine, but nothing I'd craved later, even with the dipping sauce. For my cocktail I chose the smoked old fashioned. I was happy it wasn't too sweet since maple was listed in the description. The presentation was as fancy - a large dome filled with smoke and opened at the table. Saying all of that - it was INCREDIBLY small for the price paid. Disappointing. Service was stellar. Ambiance is upscale casual. I've been told during crowded evenings that the space is overwhelmingly loud with bad acoustics. Alchemy is not quite a 4 star based on the higher prices and/or portions, making it hard for me to recommend coming back soon.

Attentive staff, comfortable atmosphere, good food! There is indoor and outdoor seating - the sides of the building open up to the patio when it's nice out so even the inside seats feel patio weather. We only did apps for our meal. Sharing the small sampler, we got a chicken & beef empanada. The aiolis that come with it are so good - we almost asked for more. 10/10 on the fried plantains. We also shared the choripan which is an open faced bread with melted cheese, sliced chorizo & chimichurri ontop. Great app for 4-6 people. Can't wait to come back to try more on the menu.

What a vibe! Such a fun and cute place in Norton commons to grab Venezuelan food. I came here with work people for our dinner club and it was so good! Most of us got the Venezuelan main meal with the plantains, rice and beans. We all split the sampler app!

I tried to book a reservation 5 days in advance but I received an email saying that it wasn't confirmed by the restaurant. I wait a day or two and try again with the same result. I then call the restaurant twice and it rings for quite a while, then there's a long beep, then silence. I assumed it was the voicemail box but no idea since it was just silence, I left a message but didn't get a call back. Then I went on their FB page and left a comment on their most recent photo trying to get a reservation, no response. I show up on the day that I kept trying to make a reservation for and get asked by the hostess (she was very nice) if I have one, I tell her about my attempts and she apologizes and tells us it'll be a 15 minute wait. We wait 45 mins and still no table. Ultimately, we ate elsewhere.

Just as fabulous as the first time. Had the Choridam again, amazing! Also tried the large sampler appetizer, the beef and spinach empanadas were so good. The service was great again and the smoked old fashioned is a must. Enjoy!!!!

I was introduced to this restaurant through its TikTok videos and I'm so glad that I found it because it was so good! The ambiance is cozy yet upscale and we were able to get seating for 2 without a wait on a cold Friday evening. I had the red sangria which was fruity and delicious. For an appetizer, my fiance and I had the beef empanadas and the menu didn't lie--it was the best in town. The two dipping sauces were perfect. Both of us had ribeye steaks which were expertly seasoned and cooked. I had the cheese grits and they were melt in your mouth delicious. The service was great--our waiter had wonderful recommendations and was attentive. We will definitely be back for a date night.

    Black walnut smoked old fashioned

Fantastic experience. To start off the black walnut smoked old fashioned put on a show table side. Food was delicious-our table enjoyed the yuca frita with cilantro aioli, pork Alchemy tostones and chicken & steak pepito. Service was top notch and Chef Nelson stopped at our table to check on us. Can't wait to go back!

Meh...it was ok...I won't run back..maybe a veey spow walk for the beef empanadas. Whike the steak was well seasoned the chicken in the empanada and the chicken with the mushroom sauce tasted like NOTHING. The waitress was really sweet and attentive but there was a language barrier that made it kinda hard. However, she was very sweet. The thing I didnt like most was, it was SOOOOOOOOO Loud in there. I dont know if it was where I was sitting or the restaurant in general. But I felt like I had to yell the whole time.

I'm super glad they closed the kitchen at 10- and were able to get us very well fed! Mr. Nelson was fantastic and the wait staff were phenomenal! Since it was cool but not cold we opted to sit on the patio, which was nice and well lit. Hated being captured in photos I didn't want to be in since I was not with the folks taking them... I don't like having my photos taken personally just not my thing... lol but otherwise it was nice being on the patio. We started with the Choripan. It's savory buttery and delicious! The spice blends then melds into a citrus zing then followed by the soft buttered bread. It's like a mouth mind meld- 4th wall breaks type of situation. Next time I'll ask for crisper bread cause that would add an extra twist to it- omg lol like the texture to have an extra layer to this effect the whole system is blown wide open. The kid ordered the alchemy burger after prodding Nelson about which he'd choose between her two favorite things lol they're too cute going back and forth over salmon and burgers... She had her eyes rolling while eating it - said it was so flavorful and she loved the fried cheese all on its on but I'm guessing it was wonderful as she didn't really talk much just ate lol I ordered the grilled Picanha steak... with fries. When I say- tender, mind blowingly flavorful, and cooked to perfection at medium... Now, my only damn question is when are we going back???? Seriously one of my new favorite Venezuelan restaurants. Thought the food truck was good.., this was absolutely amazing and delicious doesn't cover it!! Thanks crew! Chefs kiss hit em five times!!!!! ******We ordered dessert to go and will have the brownie and strawberry cheesecake tomorrow with our leftovers- I will update about it!!!

!!! NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT ALERT!!!…read more Wow. This is legitimately the closest I have been to tearing up at a meal. My husband discovered this place when he was perusing on Google Maps looking for something else. This was the happiest accident and I could not be happier we visited. I am from Venezuela and this is place is legit. They have foods that other Venezuelan places in the area don't offer, and varieties that are authentic and far better (the empanadas!!). I got the mandocas (plantain and corn horseshoe-shaped fritters), cheese and potato pastelito (like a cross between a pizza pocket and a pierogi, but better in every way), arepa pabellon, and a beef empanada. Everything was sublime. These empanadas are different than ones you may be used to, since they are corn based instead of wheat based, making them many levels better than you can imagine. It was very nostalgic experience. Even without the nostalgia, the food is that good, and so worthwhile heading over here. There's so much more on the menu I wanted to try. Guess I'll have to come back! The staff was wonderful, and the atmosphere inside was joyful, with beautiful murals. Highly, highly, highly recommend!

Hell, we're still sussing out the Colombian vs. Venezuelan arepa rivalry. But the arepa pabellon at Arrechissimo (this apparently means "awesome" in Venezuelan Spanish) wins the prize for us so far, and it's not even close. Even if it initially seems expensive at $13.50, it is a near-miraculous little food item, regardless of one's knowledge about arepas generally. It's perfect in its simplicity and greater than the sum of its parts: Wonderful white-corn flatbread style rolls with a great balance of fluffy and crisp, flavorful shredded beef, fried plantains, black beans, and melted mild cheese. Add the spicy cilantro salsa, which is just about perfect in its own right. By the way, despite its compact size, the arepa pabellon is plenty filling. Arrechissimo is just a food stand with maybe four outdoor tables. The setting in quiet Deer Park is pleasant and comfortable enough, when the weather is reasonably nice. Unfortunately for us, Arrechissimo is far enough away that carryout is not a suitable option during those too-many months when Cincinnati weather is not so nice. Between my two visits, I got the vegan arepa, Venezuelan breakfast plate, tres leches cake cup, and regular and horchata matcha lattes. The vegan arepa was very tasty. It was a little difficult to eat because the arepa was sliced so thinly that it didn't look sturdy enough to pick up, but it was too crispy to easily cut through with a fork and knife. Still delicious though. I had meant to order with the pink sauce but forgot to specify and got what I think was the guasacaca instead, but it was so good that I didn't really mind. The Venezuelan plate was the right balance of simple and flavourful. Great acai bowl. Tres leches was very sweet, but I enjoyed it, and it was a nice individual portion. The regular matcha latte was pretty good, however the horchata was so sweet that I thought it somewhat overpowered the matcha in the horchata latte. I also tried the açai bowl and fresh-squeezed OJ that my family ordered, and would also highly recommend both of those! Whether you're visiting for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, there's a ton of variety including Venezuelan, Mexican, other Latin American, and USAmerican dishes, and some vegetarian and vegan options. The atmosphere is cool with the fake plants on the ceiling, and they had fun Latin music on. The waitress we had both times was friendly and professional, and the food was reasonably quick to come out. Recommended for something different in Bloomington!
