I visited Alchemy on opening day of the Logan Street Market. I was super excited because we just had an amazing experience at a Venezuelan place in Denver and were lamenting the lack of arepas in Louisville. Alchemy did not let us down! We both ordered the Venezuelan arepa (black beans, plantains,) and they were completely delicious. Arepas are usually gluten free since they are made from white cornmeal but since this wasn't advertised I double checked and the server confirmed that all of the arepas are gluten free. I ordered the Pelua (shredded beef with cheddar cheese). I should've went with Venezuela Arepa for a dollar more as that added black beans and plantains. The arepa was very hard to eat and made a mess to eat as it was very wet and dripped juices all over. I will give this place another chance, but it left me slightly disappointed overall. read more

I ate here twice since it has open. It was delicious. I had one of their soups with chicken and some type of dumpling. I had their beef platter and it had lots of flavor. The best thing I ate there was the flan . The staff there explain all of their dishes and to answer questions. read more

I stopped by Alchemy while visiting the Logan Street Market. I was not familiar with Venezuelan cuisine so was unsure what to order. After chatting with the owner a bit I decided on the pabellon criollo. It was wonderful. Shredded beef, black beans, white rice and sweet and a fried egg. Everything was really flavorful. I walked the entire market before stumbling upon this place. As soon as I approached the counter the owner sparked up a conversation. Explaining the best dishes and that everything was Gluten Free. I had heard of Arepas from a friend of mine and wanted to try them. The owner mentioned this was the only Venezuelan restaurant in the city, and came over to check on us while we were eating. This is the best food I've had in the longest time. Being gluten free I often feel as though I have to settle and eat a salad everywhere I go, rarely do I get to eat carb heavy and indulge. Logan Street Market has become one of our favorite spots to get in out of the cold, browse the shops and grab dinner. The highlight is, of course, the dinner at Alchemy Restaurant! Nelson & Nahyla are so warm and friendly and their authentic Venezuelan food is outstanding. My favorite is the Pabellon Criollo plate: sofrito-flavored shredded beef, white rice, black beans and sweet plantains with a fried egg on top! My wife loves the potato soup and the Venezuela Arepa, which contains many of the same ingredients in a corn meal pocket. The atmosphere is as informal as it gets, but the food is truly special. read more

Alchemy Restaurant has awesome food that fits into many categories but they are Venezuelan at heart. The arepas are delicious and huge variety, the grilled meats are perfect with cheese and sauce in a bowl and they have vegetarian options as well. We went to Logan Street Market for dinner this evening and decided to try a couple of different food options. My daughter and I ordered from Alchemy - I got the Venezuelan special - can't remember the name of it with shredded beef, rice, beans, sweet plantains and a fried egg. She got 2 different arepa's. And we finished off with their version of flan. Oh my - so yummy and so much flavor! Cannot wait to go back and try several different things. Best of all everything is Gluten Free so my daughter with Celiac's can eat there! The owner, Nelson, told me one of his sons also has a Gluten Allergy.
