I receive an outdated menu. The food was meh. The dumplings were the best we had. Service was good. Ambiance was casual .
Don't get the curry, or much. Unfortunately the food is either bland or the rice is not cooked well. I just hate the new food here now, despite trying it again. Service is mid to good, depending on your day. The chef and a bartender both vape inside the restaurant while working... there's just an air of ambivalence. I'm so sad to see this happening.
I have a great time whenever I go to Alchemy. I sit at the bar because I do solo outings often, & the bartenders are amazing. I went before they merged with Salt & Soy, and after. Though the menu has changed majorly, there's always something good. I miss the udon dish they used to have, but they brought a new one with coconut curry that's just as delicious. The drinks are great! It's a beautiful location and always very peaceful. Would recommend 100%.
Ambience is pretty chill, but as ppl roll in, it can get lively in an excellent way. All of the bartenders are great and attentive. Table service has been excellent the few times I have indulged. I prefer bar seating here. My favorites are the Hound Dog and Old Fashioned which I usually customize. One of the best happy hours and when I do come outside during the week, this is my spot or in consideration. Parking is usually pretty good and when it's not, it's the fault of ppl already parked. Lol!! Check it out if you haven't already!
Cocktails and fries? Finally got the chance to visit a well known cocktail bar @alchemymemphis . They have well made crafted cocktails with a limited food menu but hey who needs food when you can get some great drinks! If you are looking for a great happy hour you need to go to Alchemy for alll your cocktail needs
Came here for happy hour and sat outside. The fries were plentiful but they weren't that good and were served kind of lukewarm. The sauce that came with it seem heavy on the Mayo side. The chicken sandwich had a hot honey sauce that wasn't bad, the bun could've been a little softer. Can't remember the drink but it was really good, everyone seem to order it. The service wasn't bad, drinks are half off during happy hour & I think 20% off select food items. I prob would just come for drinks if it's not happy hour.
I was super happy about being able to call them and they squeezed me in for Mother's Day brunch. The server was super nice and accommodating; Very attentive and made sure we were okay. The menu was small. I looked up the menu before I came and I was planning to get the shrimp and grits and my little girl wanted waffles but neither was on the bunch menu. I wished they had at least one dessert but nothing sweet on the menu after your meal. The food wasn't bad but was really basic type of stuff and plating; ambiance is a bar vibe. The bar takes up most of the space and is in the center of the restaurant. They have a variety of seating from the standard restaurant tables that seat four, booths, high tops, bar seating and window seats. They also have no gender bathrooms. The music they played made me super relaxed. It was my first time here but I can see it being slightly clubby. Not too bad tho.
I always get the "Goldie Likes" when I come to Alchemy! The place is always clean and the staff is great! This time we had Sage and he was very attentive. The food has not grown on me yet but I will try something else the next time I go back.
Great cocktails and Gastroenerologist with indoor and out door seating. Happy hour is a fantastic deal. A lot of thought has gone into these cocktails, and the food is just as good. Standouts we're the tuna tatami and the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup, probably the best I've had anywhere.
Best place in midtown. Good food, good drinks, service is the best and quick. Close to many other locations as well. And classsssy
Came here on a Friday night and right off the bat for an awesome and refreshing cocktail. The hound dog is a for sure must try cocktail. Their old fashioned was really good too. Ordered a few items, got the papas bravas, shrimp etouffee, and the pork belly. The pork belt on top of the baguette was really good, wish the bread was toasted though. It was too much soft on soft feel, but that whipped Ricotta was the star of that dish. The papas came half cold and half hot, which made me think they were heated in a microwave or something. Our waitress took that hiccup and fixed it right way, the second time they were delicious. The shrimp etouffee was amazing, seasoned well and perfectly spicy.
Best cocktails this side of the Mississippi. Service is great and fries are straight fire. Recommend getting their Manhattan and Whiskey Sour.
Came here with friends (December 30) for happy hour and this is a nice little gem. The ambience was great and I'm glad I came! I ordered the House Frites and Mussels as an after work "dinner" and was able to get a few drinks from the happy hour menu. I would definitely recommend the Hound Dog as this drink was delicious! The mussels was cooked perfectly and just the right amount of garlic. They give you a massive amount of fries that's enough to share with the table. I will definitely come back here to try their other food and drinks! read more
We were planning to visit Alchemy for Friday night dinner but after a flight delay, we rescheduled for Sunday brunch. I wonder if dinner would have been better... The brunch menu offered appetizers, plates for sharing and larger entrees with the typical southern fare - shrimp and grits, fried oysters, mac and cheese, pork chops, steak and fried catfish. The fried oyster salad had flavorless oysters (***try the ones at Beauty Shop down the street!) on a bed of spinach. This was a relatively uninspired dish. The quail and waffles was replaced by a special of the day - duck and waffles. This elevation of the typical chicken and waffles sounded good but the execution was a little off. The duck was overcooked and over salted and although the waffles had a nice flavor, they were cold and a little dry. They could have benefited from perhaps a little cinnamon or powdered sugar on top. This place offers reasonably good food but it's not up to par with some of the great brunch places in Memphis. It seems like it's probably a better place to come with friends for a drink with their customizable cocktails rather than for an excellent brunch. read more
Alchemy is located on the main street within the Cooper Young district so it's up to chance if you are able to find street parking, but it should be possible within a 3-block distance. I came here for a friend's birthday dinner and was really impressed by the entire experience. The restaurant has plenty of space to accommodate different-sized parties, whether you choose to sit at the bar or need a room for 15+ people, as we had in our group. Keep in mind that for larger parties, a 20% gratuity is added automatically to the bill. For dinner, I had the duck confit. There were a few hits and misses in the dish. Some portions of it around the edges were tough and a bit over-seasoned, but the bulk of the duck was tender and had a delicious, mild flavor. The brussel sprouts that came with the dish were a bit tough, but forgivable. I tried a couple bites of other dishes as well, and can say that while the food is pretty good, the cocktails were the highlight of the evening. Each cocktail was unique and tasty. If you like fruity flavors like me, the Hound Dog and Goldie LIkes are great options. I definitely want to come back to Alchemy, especially to try their happy hour. read more

Their innovative cocktails are executed well and at a very decent price compared to mixologists in major cities. We had too much to drink, but for the lightweights, I would recommend the Oh Clementine. Dancing Jimmy's Secret tasted like a standard vodka tonic drink with purple grapes that added no flavor. For the stronger drinks, I would recommend the Alchemist, Suffering Bastard, or the Red Headed Step Child. The food was pretty good. The mac n cheese, sliders, bread pudding, and the asparagus were highlights. I didn't particularly like the fish tacos, crab cakes, or the shrimp and grits. Not to say they were bad, but seafood is not their strong suit. Service was prompt and attentive. read more

Hip, new trendy bar/eatery in Cooper - Young Loved the sophisticated atmosphere! I had the Hot Pepper Jelly Glazed Chicken Wings with Cheddar and Bacon Cornbread & Roasted Asparagus with Romesco Sauce - both delicious! The pepper in the hot wings has just a mild kick to it, not scorching hot, which is a good thing for me. Courtesy of a friend got to taste the Denver Lamb Ribs with Tzatziki Sauce and Brussel Sprouts with Bacon, Pistachios and Granny Smith Apples and all I can say is I'll be getting them the next time I visit. Get the cheesecake trio - you'll love it! I think the valet parking is overkill but obviously a lot of people use it. This place is a winner and I hope it is around for a long time! read more
You know we hadn't eaten here in a while and I was interested to see if the service and food was holding up quality wise. We got there during happy hour and as a result the first 30 minutes was a bit loud. With that said, if I were looking for a jumpin' happy hour with lots of pretty people hanging out having fun...this seemed to be the place. Shortly after the drink special ended it mellowed a bit to a nice audio level...loud enough that others couldn't hear what we were saying but no so loud as to have to yell to each other. I had the sirloin and it had a nice crust on it but not overdone, the potatoes were perfect. My wife had the black bass which she liked the taste but said it had a few bones that made it difficult to eat. All in all we left super happy and I could see us back here again soon. read more
After lightly pouring our hearts out to Elvis at Graceland, we were ready to dive into Sunday brunch that did not strictly include BBQ. Reading up on reviews, we saw that Alchemy was known for their signature drinks, and included a Sunday brunch menu. This was perfect! Walking in, you'd think you were in an upscale downtown restaurant in LA or Chicago. Large and glamorous is what I'd describe the setting, albeit a bit chilly in Winter since it's such a big space. That my friend, is what the $5 cocktails are for. Sunday brunch offers some great drink deals from mimosas to bellinis. If you've got time, try them all. We loved ours! For brunch, we ordered the Shrimp and Bacon Hash ($18) and the Loaded Grits w/ Fried Egg ($13). My my my... both of these were absolutely delicious. The hash's perfectly poached eggs complimented the shrimp and bacon doused in sauce. The loaded grits had all the cheeses in the world, yet it wasn't completely overpowered by its goodness. A win for both! Our wait staff was very sweet, and was curious enough to ask how to pronounce my last name. I appreciate that! Thanks Alchemy for a great last brunch before we head home to places where BBQ is not as highly recognized. read more

I've been coming here for 4 years and they recently changed the menu. I understand that times have changed given the pandemic but they have removed the only great vegan option from their menu, the Edemame hummus! In addition they have incorrectly used the vegan V (the one with the leaf on the corner) next to items that they can make vegan by removing the main protein with no substitute to offer. I'm highly disappointed! They offer an avocado salad but it has no greens. The arugula salad that you could order with no meat of cheese is also gone. The fries are still there but as a vegan living in Cooper Young this was the nicest option for dinner and now it's just not! read more

Alchemy During my visit to Alchemy on 25 September 2021, my guest were and I were served spoiled steak; it smelled horrible, looked ill-cooked, and tasted terrible! Yes, I tasted the food just to make sure I wasn't being too critical and after sending it back it was obvious by my server's (Sage) apologies that the "steak" should not have left the kitchen. I was a little confused as to how the chef/cook couldn't tell that the meat they'd cooked was spoiled and NOT worth serving! The following day I was sick and had a mild case of food poisoning. Outside of removing the entrees from my ticket, my guest and I were not compensated. It was my plan to email the restaurant manager by using the "contact us" section on the restaurant's website, but the link doesn't work. I've called, left a voicemail and have yet for someone to return my call (901)-726-4444! My next step is to go back to speak with someone in person because it is obvious their customer service is equivalent to the spoiled steak... bad! read more

My favorite happy hour in Memphis! Food is good and they are not stingy on their liquor ratios. It would be cool to see the menu change more often. read more

Been 3 or 4 times and I've never had a bite of food or sip of drink that did not make me happy and usually smile inside due to the pleasant alimentary sensations happening in my mouth. So yeah. If you appreciate a well crafted cocktail and thoughtful food, go. Ok other notes: their happy hour is bomb. 1/2 off most food and drinks (just ask if you'd like to confirm, friends have indeed ordered a speciality item that they didn't realize wasn't part of happy hour). It's also a mad house, because everybody else knows a good deal when they see one. Get there around 4:30 or 5 on a Friday if you want a table. Literally everything is delicious. I would especially recommend the deviled eggs and the brownie dessert with ice cream ... *wipes drool away* man it is so good. Also don't think you can finish the whole brownie. Bring two friends to help or make new friends!! I was also recently impressed with the charcuterie plate. Perhaps a bit more sweet offering would've been appreciated, but for $9 (again, go for happy hour!!) it was a steal! read more

Alchemy has a real cool and chill atmosphere that is perfect for drinks with the girls. I chose to try something new and got the Goldie Likes cocktail, it was delicious. The drink had a jalapeño in it and was a good combination of sweet but with a little kick. If you go too Alchemy you have to try it. The staff was friendly and worked very efficiently. My group did not have to ask for waters and they made our drinks very quickly. If you are in or near midtown Memphis, you should stop by and have a drink. read more

I was looking for a place in mid-town Memphis that had a reputation for great craft cocktails, I found one ! Alchemy is exactly my kind of place !! I went in looking for cocktails, but the food was also outstanding ! We had the Burrata & the Arancini Balls and were extremely pleased !! But back to the cocktails. My boy Alex really outdid himself with a couple of cocktails he created himself; the 'Cactus Fire' & the "Good Old Thyme". Both were excellent ! He even recommended a wonderful sipping bourbon that I enjoyed thoroughly ! Next time I visit Memphis, Alchemy will definitely be on my happy hour agenda - PourMan read more

I go hear for happy hour all the time, and they have the best happy hour by far in Memphis. I love how they rotate drink specials, but the only thing I wish was different would be to have a few more small plates that were not just sides such as, Brussels sprouts or potatoes. The wait stuff is really friendly tho and so are the bartenders. The only thing is that the hostesses can be a little bit incompetent, and have to get managers to help them move tables together. Otherwise, I will keep returning to this establishment. read more

We were in Memphis to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday and we were very fortunate in that since we were all traveling in from Dallas he planned some good places for us to eat. We went to Alchemy's for brunch on a Sunday morning and were able to make reservations, which was a must because there was 10+ of us. My fiance and I decided to try a couple of appetizers so got the truffle deviled eggs and the hot chicken and biscuits. Both were very tasty and I especially loved the deviled eggs. The capers they add on top provide a great contrast to the flavor. For lunch we both ordered the Alchemy BLTA. I love any sandwich that has avocado in it and this was also very tasty. It was a great visit overall. We also had the passion fruit mimosa which tasted like it was made with fresh fruit, although I'm sure no one's in the back taking the time cutting up fruit to put in it...lol. We would definitely go back if we're fortunate enough to frequent Memphis again. read more
I can't believe I haven't updated my @AlchemyMemphis review until now. Not only am I the duchess here, but I am in a complete and total love affair with this place...you'll find me here at least twice a week...and almost every Sunday for brunch. I love the atmosphere, I love the bartenders, I love the waiters (shoutout to Bethany), I love the drinks, I love the people who come here, I am just in a constant state of love love love when I walk through the doors. But do you know who I love more than anyone in this building? Cy, the head of Alchemy catering, who did my 30th birthday party...and people are still raving about the food. He made everything so easy peasy for me and I can't express how appreciative I am. He held my hand through the entire process and made it so I didn't have to do anything but tell him what menu items I wanted and **poof!** there they were. So if you want a classy cocktail? Alchemy. If you want a sophisticated atmosphere? Alchemy. If you want a great place to meet someone for a first date? Alchemy. If you want someone to cater a bomb dinner? Alchemy. If you want a delightful brunch? Alchemy. So yeah, I love this place. read more
I've been to Alchemy three times in two weeks. The first two times I had drinks with friends and didn't order food... What a silly mistake that was! Not until my third trip did I discover how good the food is at Alchemy. Let me back up a bit... The first time I went to Alchemy I was blown away upon walking in the door. It was a Thursday and the place was packed. Beauty everywhere! Beautiful people, beautiful lighting, beautiful flowers and plants, beautiful food... and most striking is the beautiful u-shaped bar that takes up the center of the main dining room. I felt like I was walking in to a restaurant in Chicago or New York City. There is nothing like Alchemy in Memphis. When I visited Alchemy again last week it was a Friday and the place was alive with excitement. I meet up with 7 other people and we decided to sit at the bar rather than wait for a table. We ordered drinks and 7 or 8 different plates. Everything was great. I especially enjoyed the scallops and the veal. On my next visit I would like to try the lamb ribs because they looked pretty darn good, even from the other end of the bar. Alchemy is great for people watching too! If you haven't been there yet, you need to check it out. read more
This is one of the best places in town to get a great drink with a friend/s. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is always friendly and efficient. A great wine list, local beer options and specialty cocktail selection. Also, the mac-n-cheese is one of the best in the city, the Brussels sprouts are delicious and the pimento cheese beef sliders are fantastic. This is a great place on any evening to grab a bite and/or drinks. The brunch menu looks great, but have yet to try. read more

I am going with 4 stars but if I did not absolutely love alchemy pre-covid it would be at most 3 stars. So with everything going on I will stick with 4 stars. Something has happened to the cool factor or what made Alchemy, Alchemy. It seemed very off from the greeting at the door to the customer experience with the strange woman following our waiter around. It was very odd and almost makes you feel uncomfortable to eat. The food was very pedestrian and not what it was before. Our most favorite cocktail O' Clementine was like drinking orange juice with vodka not the strawberry/orange bust of flavor that it used to be. They were out of the frites??? We ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup which was yummy (using a different kind of bread it's not as crunchy). We also ordered the alchemy sliders and this was a hard NO. It was very bland supposed to have bacon on it but only 1 of 3 had a piece of bacon on it. The sliders had no flavor we ended up dipping the sliders in the tomato soup to make it more palatable to eat. The sliders are a hard NO and skip it because they just aren't good. Overall we walked out with a ticket of $50 previously it would of been closer to $200. We love Alchemy and will try again in a couple of months to see if we have a better out come. read more
Cooper-Young's newest bar, Alchemy, has cocktails, small plates, and a I-can't-believe-this-is-Memphis atmosphere. Alchemy definitely looks cool. It takes up two storefronts (the ones previously occupied by Grace and Au Fond), and it's got a huge square bar, couches, bar tables and plenty of regular seating. It's warm and inviting, and it's got that soft, pretty lighting that makes everybody look good. Inside it was packed - all of the tables, most of the bar space and every inch of couch was taken up. Though they serve wine and beer, Alchemy seems like it's aiming to be a destination cocktail bar. I tried the Whiskey Smash from the small (for now) signature cocktail menu. It was a little like a fancified whiskey sour, a little bit sweet and a little bit strong. While you could easily make a meal out of the small plates on Alchemy's tapas-style menu, everything seems designed for sharing. The menu has plenty of options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I had already eaten dinner, so my date and I shared three of the cheese plates (I tried to take pictures, but though the lighting makes people look quite fetching, it's not so good for food photography). The bar just opened a few weeks ago, so it's been pretty busy every night. I tried to call for reservations, but they don't take them. The kitchen is open nightly until about 1 a.m. read more

I've been here for drinks numerous times, but this past Saturday night was the first time I ordered food and the experience was so moving I had to write a review. Backstory: my friends and I were at Young Ave watching the Grizz v OKC game and chugging beers until they decided to cut the game off in the last 2 mins to show some dumb UFC fight so we decided to be classy and get drinks at Alchemy. Once seated, waters were brought and drinks were attempted to be ordered. Boyfriend got the Suffering Bastard (not because he is one, but bc he loves them) and this one was no different. I still heard praises of this drink the day after. I, on the other hand, went with red sangria. I've been on a mission lately to find the same one I had when I was in Brugge, Belgium and I've constantly failed. This time it was no different. The waitress even failed in describing how it was made. I asked if there was fruit, and she said yes. My drink arrived with some sour wine and a toothpick with two lemon slices and a lime slice. Needless to say I did not drink it. But I digress. Let's move onto the Pan Seared Hangar Steak. Everything on that plate was remarkable. If it wasn't bad etiquette, I would've licked that plate cleaned. The steak was cooked to perfection. It was still rare with juices still overflowing (as how a hangar steak should be prepared) and the potatoes were to die for: Not greasy but still flavorful with the oil. The paprika aioli sauce paired very well with both the potatoes and steak. I can't even tell you what the other 4 people at our tables got because I was in such a trance with this dish. Also if you're wondering who got the last bite of steak...I was feeling generous (and full from the sweet potato fries and beer from Young Ave) so I saved it for the boyfriend. Look at how great I'm doing with the whole putting other people's hunger before my own. read more
I have to say, I really was not feeling the food here like I had hoped I would. My boyfriend brought us here for my 21st birthday after getting a recommendation from his coworker. We each ordered a drink. The "Oh Clementine" I got consisted of clementine vodka with fresh orange juice and strawberry puree. It was pretty tasty. We then got the hush puppies, which I have to say were the highlight of my meal. They were delicate, crispy, and full of delicious cheese. The garlic dipping sauce was the perfect compliment. I'm glad we asked our waitress before we ordered the $14 crab cakes...turns out it's one small crab cake. Places like this really irritate me with their overpriced, underwhelming tiny portions. Speaking of small portions...for the main course, we both ordered the pan seared hanger steak. It was served with duck fat roasted fingerling potatoes, which honestly tasted like plain boiled potatoes. They had absolutely no flavor and the paprika dipping sauce did not help. It actually had a really unpleasant taste, to be honest. The steak itself was overcooked on the outside while way too raw on the inside. It tasted like the only seasoning they used was sea salt, which they definitely overdid. I think that adding a nice vegetable to the plate would have helped balance it out a bit. The overall appearance of the meal was beautiful--the steak was sliced thinly and the potatoes were arranged in a decorative manner. The decor of the restaurant was modern and fun. It definitely is not your classic Memphis restaurant. If the food was priced reasonably and I was just ordering the hush puppies, maybe I would go back. For now, I don't think I'll be back soon. read more
I definitely love the atmosphere here. Very swanky lounge type feel to this restaurant/bar. Absolutely more of an upscale lounge than a bar I would say. Very awesome selection of martinis and bourbons. The blueberry martini is a favorite here and I would recommend it. Actually, the bartenders informed me that this place specializes in bourbons and that they actually make their own simple syrups, juices, and purees. My bartenders were great. I told my bartender that I've never had bourbon. He thoroughly explained how bourbon's were made and barreled and walked me through how bourbons are cured. After our discussion and me informing him of the types of liquors and wines I currently like, we determined that whiskey would be better for my pallet. He introduced me to Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey and Weller Special Reserve. I enjoyed both however one Rittenhouse would've done the job all by itself. That whiskey is 100 proof and I was very tipsy after one glass. All in all, I highly recommend this place. 2 thumbs up. read more
