Welcome to the Neighborhood, Alchemist Nail Bar - A Chic New Spot with Room to Shine I recently visited the brand-new Alchemist Nail Bar on Kempsville, and I have to say--it's a beautiful addition to the area. I stopped in after seeing they were offering 20% off services for their grand opening and decided to treat myself to a pedicure and dip powder manicure. The salon is spotless (as expected for a new location), with a modern, welcoming vibe. One small but appreciated perk? They offer complimentary mimosas while you're getting your nails done--a relaxing little touch that adds to the experience. My pedicure tech was a gentleman who was incredibly friendly and kind. While there was a slight language barrier, his attention to detail and professional demeanor made up for it. It was a pleasant experience from start to finish. After my pedicure, I waited quite a while to get started on my dip powder nails. I didn't have an appointment (walked in right when they opened at 9 AM), but I was the second customer there, so I was a little surprised by the delay. By 10 AM, the salon started to fill up quickly, so if you're planning a weekend visit, I strongly suggest making an appointment. As for the services: Pedicure - Very clean, well-done, but I do wish the foot massage lasted a bit longer. About six minutes just doesn't quite hit that "spoiled" level for me--but let's be honest, we always want a little more when it comes to a foot rub! Dip Powder Nails - Nicely done with good color selection. No complaints here. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but with the 20% discount, it felt more reasonable. Without the promo, it's definitely more of a treat-yourself spot--but given the quality and atmosphere, I'd still consider going back. Would I return? Yes--especially when I need a little "me time." The vibe is right, the team is friendly, and that mimosa didn't hurt either. Welcome to the neighborhood, Alchemist! My only suggestion would be where you dry your feet at it's kinda uncomfortable that you're facing your back is facing everybody. It would be nice if you could turn the table around the other way so that your back isn't to everybody it's very uneasy feeling.

I followed Tracy over from Wonder Nails because she is THAT girl. She keeps my nails looking nice and fresh and executes any inspo pic I show her. If you're looking for a new nail tech, I recommend Tracy and Jessica as they are both amazing at what they do. The nail spa is clean and luxurious. The added mimosas are a plus as well . I love it here!

    Full set after FOUR Days

Came on Sunday, got a full set, by Monday my thumb nail started lifting. Couldnt get in until Thursday, now three fingers have lifted. Waited an hour for assistance. Wanted the three lifts to be repaired but also asked for other nails to be filed down because they were so thick. Was told " I don't have time and no one else does either" but when I came in I told the receptionist exactly what I wanted. What did the receptionist tell you because if no one coincidentally didn't have time for what I wanted, I would have never waited an hour after getting off work. The shop is shiny and it's new and they do all the cute little designs but the laying and filing of acrylic sucks. Also, as I'm waiting for a fix, another customer came in complaining about a shotty job and also needed a fix. Never again. I'd rather have clear for the rest of my life then to have a full fresh set lift in One Day!

Came their opening day and was very excited to try a new salon. I haven't gotten my nails done in a while so the 40 percent off deal definitely got me in the door. When I got there, the line was wrapped around the building which was to be expected. After waiting for them to opening and waiting in line we got to the front and were told they would call us once they were ready (we were a group of 4 btw) Fast forward maybe an hour and a half to two hours later they called and said they were ready. When you walk in you definitely get the classy vibe from this place. Tons of bright light and clean minimalist aesthetics. I got a gel x full set with cat eye and chrome. Compared to my inspo pic, the gold lines came out a little thicker than I anticipated but they still looked really good. There wasn't a ton of nail prep beforehand and the nail tip was applied with a different type of glue than what I usually get but so far they have held up pretty nicely. Overall, I would be back at this nail salon. Everyone was nice and Jessica (nail tech) did a fantastic job!

    Chemical burn

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. Salon was not filled with customers to warrant a hour wait. Once I was finally able to be serviced, I waited another 10-15 min before someone came to start my pedicure. Unfortunately, I received chemical burn from callus remover on both feet. I informed the tech my feet were burning and she looked at me as if I were exaggerating. 3 times I alerted her before she washed the chemical off my feet. Lack of transparency about pricing and overall poor service. I will not be back.

I personally got cat eye this time I like that when they give you the foot massages like a timer, so you know how much time you get.

I'll be honest - I made more than 1 u-turn getting to the new spot, which is only directly accessible going northbound on Independence. If you're traveling south, you have to make u-turn. And if you miss it going north, you may have to make several. Now that I know where it is, I won't miss it again! Look for the red State Farm sign at the entrance to the professional center before turning in. I do really like this new spot which is solely for EA Esthetics. The entrance is lovely and welcoming, with beautifully-displayed retail merchandise to browse while you wait for your esthetician. It seems like an overwhelming selection of serums, lotions, washes, etc. but you will get an expert-recommendation after a consult with Emily or the other staff. On this visit, I was taken back for my treatment right at my appointment time. Amanda was kind enough to make sure I was comfortable before beginning - I was in for a long haul (2+ hours!). About halfway through treatment, I got chilly and she had a cozy blanket ready for me. She explained each step of the process so I knew what to expect and I was so happy with the results. I was a little scared at how dark my brows were initially, but as promised, they lightened to a perfect tint within a couple of days. Their website is so easy to use for booking and gives a detailed description of service and prices. For both my brows and lashes, it cost over $200, but this definitely seems to be competitive with other VB spas. I was incredibly happy with my results and will return for touch-ups, as recommended, in a few weeks. I have had a great experience each time I have been in and highly recommend Emily and Amanda for any skincare need!

There is a location within Lynnhaven Mall if you're closer to that location. The ladies who work here are polite, yet very reserved. Not a lot of chit chat going on. They do acknowledge you as a returning customer and try to get to know you and what services you gravitate towards. Communication is imperative if you don't want your brows done they want them. Speak up before she begins and tell them what look you're trying to achieve. On the weekends, it can be busier. I've always walked in but if you are having multiple areas threaded, you should discuss an appointment to avoid waiting. Without an appointment, you kinda just sit and wait and try to figure out who's next based on when someone arrived. There are males that come here and receive threading services. So if you're looking to get rid of or accentuate your unibrow, they can help with that. If you're new, ask for a punch card and bring it with you on your visits. After a few visits you can redeem for a free brow threading. Cash, credit card and contactless pay are supported here. I'm unsure if there is a restroom open to customers, I've never been there that long that I needed it. I would return here for threading services.

I've seen a couple waxers who no longer work here (due to moving or raising a baby- hope you two girls are doing great, if you ever see this!), and I now see Starla. She's so efficient & does a beautiful Brazilian to the forestry that I grow. She has such great conversation and I thoroughly enjoy seeing her every so often! I also get my upper legs waxed every so often, and she does a great job on those, too! A total comfort to be on her waxing table (I mean, the wax sometimes hurts, since I'm not consistent, but I never shave, so you know that helps).
