Avoid these guys. They built us a new deck 8 years ago that was supposed to last 20-30 years with…read moreregular staining but even with regular sanding + staining, the "pressure treated" boards started rotting and splitting after the 7th year. As per the invoice, we got 2" x 6" deck boards but we measure them and they are only 5" wide! We were told these are kiln dried vs. pressure treated (what you get from Home Depot/Lowe's) so now, we cannot find the same size anymore. Richard (the same guy who did the deck) came to assess and said it's the wood seller's fault and not his. Then he told us they were out of business but my wife found the warranty sticker on one of the boards and saw that they were not . Then Richard "offered to open a warranty case with them" (Cox Industries) that required us to submit rotten samples to him (which we did) but this dragged on for months and at the end, he sent us this: Dear Richard,  Viance has completed the chemical analysis of the treated lumber that you submitted for warranty.  I am sorry to inform you that the treated wood does not meet the terms and conditions of the EcoLife Warranty.  Explanation of the warranty denial is below. The wood samples sent showed that they did not meet the required treatment for penetration or retention (pcf) for the EcoLife treatment.  Proper pcf is rigorously tested by the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA).  The AWPA standards are set forth under for the U-1 Use System for pressure treated products. This is itemized in the EcoLife warranty, under "What the Warranty Does Not Cover" as line item #8, improperly treated material. Also during our analysis we found that the 2x6 material did not meet the standard nominal dimensions manufactured by wood saw mills under the standard set forth by the Southern Yellow Pine Inspection Bureau (SPIB). The 2x6 samples had been re-milled after treatment.  Viance prohibits this action because it will take away valuable treatment at the surface of the wood.  Furthermore, this process exposes juvenile heart wood unnecessarily to rot and decay. This is numerated as item #5 in the EcoLife Warranty, under "What the Warranty Does Not Cover". We dutifully had the deck cleaned and stained right after installation, a year after and every 2 years after that - Richard even acknowledged it when he came to inspect our deck. At the end of the day, he told us he no longer uses the wood anymore and build only composite decks and that he can give us a discount if we were to tear out the entire deck and replace it with composite with his company. The original deck cost $12k so I would assume a composite one would cost about $24k ... no way we have that kind of money lying around and even if we did, we would not hire him to do the job. He told us if we regularly maintained our wood deck, we can get 20-30 years of life out of it ... barely lasted 7.

That opened a huge can of worms. After realizing the true cost for a quality awning, this led me to calling contractors to add a porch to our existing, 2-YO deck. I received 5 quotes, some so high I'm still shaking my head to this day at their absurd quotes of over $25K to enclose 216 SF'! The owner, Rich Thomas, came to the house and while chatting with me, drew-out what I was thinking on paper, very quickly and professionally. I was floored how talented he was. His quote so reasonable, I hired Rich on the spot. The crew he sent out, from start to finish, was outstanding. His guys hand drilled each hole to install the 80+ decorative metal tubes for the railing. The tongue and groove ceiling, WOW, what a nice touch and again, the price, extremely reasonable. Below is my final eMail to Rich. I HIGHLY recommend you call them for your home upgrade needs before you sign a contract with another contractor. I've been meaning to write to give you a heads-up; I'm very impressed with the crew that you sent over; from Val down. Your guys are outstanding, hard workers and craftsman. I do mean craftsman. It's nice to see people who care about their work, get the job right the first time, which reflects in the products they create. I also want to give a kudos to Bob's guys. They too impressed me. In both counts, that's something as I do not impress easily.

Although the work was quoted at 4-6 weeks, it ultimately extended to 8.5 months with ongoing delays. · As of March 6, 2026, we terminated the relationship and are completing the project independently. Working with Forever Outdoors caused an immense and unacceptable disruption to our lives from all the broken promises and work delays. · The contractor was rarely on site and at times unresponsive to our calls and requests. · Bryan frequently reached out to us for pre-payment that differed from the payment schedule in the contract. A sign that they were experiencing cash flow issues. Communication & Site Presence: · The contractor was rarely on site and at times unresponsive to calls and requests. · Despite multiple assurances that crews would be on‑site, we experienced repeated no‑shows with no proactive updates; when work did occur, the quality fell short of a professional grade and required follow‑up. · We received requests for pre‑payments that did not align with the contract's payment schedule. Materials · We waited approximately three months for doors that never arrived. During that time, we were repeatedly told they would be "ready next week." When we pressed for answers, we were told the delay was due to minor changes we had requested. · In late January, we asked the contractor to use a different supplier. The alternate local supplier delivered within two weeks. We paid that supplier directly to move the project forward since Forever Outdoors was unable to make that payment directly. Quality & Oversight · We were dissatisfied with the concrete and painting work. We escalated our concerns and yet again sub-contractors were no-shows. · We have now hired qualified vendors to correct and complete the painting and make repairs to the poured concrete decks. We expect to incur approximately $6,000 in additional out‑of‑pocket costs. Conclusion · On March 6, 2026, we informed Forever Outdoors that we declined further services and considered the professional relationship concluded. This review reflects our personal experience and opinions, supported by dated communications, invoices, and detailed records.

(It's harder than it looks, for any of you who have not done it.) For that part of the job they used two very large eye bolts screwed into the support joists under the deck. With the under deck installed, all you see is the "eye" of each bolt, with a small grommet where it comes through the deck. A small detail, but that focus on safety coupled with attention to detail impressed us. I paid over $10,000 for several jobs and not 1 of them was I ever satisfied nor where they ever completed. He stated he was always going to come back an finish it after he started another project. One of the biggest issues is that he likes to do jobs without contracts or invoices so he try's to collect on jobs that I never agreed to in price or work. Do not use this guy he is a scam artist, a trickster, fast talker and a swindler. We end our business relationship with me still paying him the complete amount of our contract amount he stated nothing more was owed but I'm guessing he later changed his mind and starting requesting additional amounts without any agreements. I had to get someone else to finish and fix his work. I will never again use him for anything. I had to take out a warrant for his harassing messages. Definitely stay away from this guy
