Beaver Tree Service Crew is a good bunch of guys, but Francisco was extremely difficult to work with.
1. His quote started off higher than anyone else. 9k but high pressure sales tactic and soon before he left he had the price to 8k, 7k, then 6k. He called me multiple times when I told him I was getting quote from other companies. In the end other companies came in around 5200 to 6000 without all the high pressure sales tactics. I told him I had decided to go with a different company, so he told me that he would do it for 5k and to give him a chance.
2. I asked for a written scope of work. He provided a very brief scope and we agreed.
3. His workers were excellent but it stops there. They did not put down plywood right away and with the heavy machinery work, the entire backyard and the side of my house is raw dirt due to the tract damage. They also damaged one chair when a branch fell on it. They absorbed the cost only when I mentioned it at the end.
4. My neighbor who I knew was also needing trees removed, was refereed to them. Because he was so hectic with his negotiations there was a serious break in communications and understanding.
5. In the end he wanted more money for work he said was outside the scope. An extra $350 for a single small tree that they cut and dragged out in under 5 minutes. A tree stump grinding which he claimed was never quoted. Said I forced his guys to remove wood rather than leave it for firewood. I had no problem with more firewood, in fact I didnt get very much for a 100ft red oak. Less than a cord.
But there was no way I wanted to tackle the base of the tree which was more than 12 feet around. This was discussed with him but he claimed that I forced the guys to take the wood out. I never even talked to his guys while they were working. I even gave his hard working crew and extra 100 so they could go buy some beers after work.
They left dirt all over the street and debris in front of my neighbors home. I cleaned up the mess myself and pressure washed all the mud off the streets.
I will not be using them in the future. There are plenty of other professional tree service companies out there.
I was giving him a chance when his quote was the highest and he wanted a chance to prove it.
The only thing he proved to me was that he lacks customer service skills and was focused more on the money rather than the customers.
Even at the end. I told him I would pay for the extra stump grinding communication error. I told him there was no need to discuss it any further.
He wouldn't stop talking about what is fair. I am paying for it already. All I said was to stop talking about it, I am doing the fair thing and paying.
Shows a need for always being right and the need to be argumentative.
YS Tree Service had the bid I was going to use before he changed my mind. YS Tree Service owner seemed very professional and there was no miscommunication. He clearly gave me a written quote on all the items we discussed.
YS Tree Service wasn't the lowest, they came in at $5500.
The lowest bid for my job actually came from Dirt Cheap Tree Service, who came at the very end as beaver showed up to do the work. They said they would do it for $4000, but low bidders scare me. read more
