However, after our experience I can say that I highly recommend it as an event venue. The hall itself isn't fancy by any means but it is a great blank slate to add your personal touches. Once we had the linens and decor set up, it completely transformed the room. It also has a spacious bar/kitchen area which is perfect if your caterers need a place to heat things up. There is also a movable stage and enough round tables to seat more than 100 guests. The hall manager was amazing to work with. She was great at communicating everything we needed to know and made sure the stage and tables were set up for us the day of. I can't recommend this venue enough if you're on a budget and just need a nice space to host your event.

I have attended numerous events here either in the large main hall or in the smaller space upstairs. There are ample kitchen facilities for any catering or other food services. Chairs and tables are of course certainly available of various dimensions depending on the function that is being held here. The doors on the ladies stalls don't come down far enough to properly cover you when you are seated on the throne. I realize due to security, the patrons need to be visible at all times. I can pretty much see your undies when I'm walking or driving by. If you are going to use the toilet, wear pretty underwear at least.

The Whyte Avenue Public Washrooms were built in 2012 at a public cost of $536,000 to address concerns of inebriated bar patrons using public and private property to relieve themselves after leaving the bars. They initially were open 24 hrs/day but the hours have been scaled back a bit so they are now closed a few hours after the bars let out. They have been designed intentionally to have glass walls so that you can see into them which provides users with a sense of safety and also discourages any negative activity from going on inside. They also are only heated to +5C in winter and have no summer air conditioning to discourage people from loitering inside. Besides serving the after bar crowd the majority of users are the daytime shoppers and passer-bys. The public perception of the washrooms varies. Some people love them and some hate them. I'm sure the residents that live in and around the area like them especially if they are seeing less public urination around their homes and properties. I'm not a late-night bar patron on Whyte Ave much these days so my chance of using these in the nighttime is probably slim to none. I have stopped in during the day to use them once and felt fine using it. Facilities like these are more popular in Europe but I think we may see more of these cropping up in Canada. I think that Edmonton has probably been used as a testing ground on how to design one of these to operate in -30 to -40C temperatures. It will be interesting to see these become more popular in Canadian urban centres.

It is one of 47, yes that's forty seven, military sites that make up CFB Edmonton, you know, that huge military base just north of town? That's not its real name. Actually it's 2550 Hectares and it's called the Steele barracks named after Sir Samuel Steele, one of the original founders of the North West Mounted Police. So a history lesson here, CFB Edmonton is the name for all 47 facilities all across town "... named after Brigadier James Currie Jefferson, who was the Commanding Officer of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment during the Second World... and is home to the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, B Squadron South Alberta Light Horse, 15 Field Ambulance, the Cadet Instructor Cadre School and 6 Intelligence Company" So there's a regiment there, horse mounted dudes, ambulances, an air cadet squadron and some spies all working out of the same building, *raised eyebrow* Awesome! My son often has to be picked up or dropped off here for major trips within the cadets, this time it's for summer camp ( which he applied, won and gets free bussing there and back, all under CDN military supervision the entire 3 weeks. Oh yeah, they pay HIM to be there something like $60 per week.) but enough about the awesome cadets program. They occasionally have fundraising and events put on by different groups, like the Kiwanis club to support community services like Valour Place, for one. From outside it's a quirky building and inside it's really well laid out with computers, printers, makers space, of course books and a welcoming reception area. I nipped in to do some printing but can't wait to come back and spend some time here. The parking lot has plug ins which I thought was a nice touch. There is also plenty of street parking too.

The food was disgusting, the patio was off limits and not open to the public, and if you want to get lunch the clubhouse has been moved to a dark dungy hole with two small windows. Edmonton is the capital of the province of Alberta so the Legislature Building is located here…read more This is where the Legislative Assembly and the Executive Council meet for an assembly or session to discuss law and ordinances. I do come here not for that, but to rather admire the beautiful architecture and stunning grounds here. Located next to the North Saskatchewan River, you can see the magnificent dome from afar. No one can deny the amazing architecture done here. Everyone marvels around the marble pillars and all other fixtures made of either mahogany, oak or brass. The Legislature grounds is also an ideal place for friends and families. I've actually witnessed so many wedding pictorials held in here in the past and remains a favorite spot. With a beautiful landscape, grassy areas, colorful flowers, and benches under beautifully lined trees, this is a nice place to hold a picnic, play some board or ball games, read a book, or simply hang around daytime or even night time. One outstanding feature of the Legislature grounds is the huge fountain in front of the building where people can either swim or dip toes in the pool during summer months. The same pool freezes during winter months and turns into a skating rink so grab your skates on. Spare extra time to join a free guided tour but make sure to register in advance online. This is something I need to do on my next visit because I heard they have a brand new visitor center with different galleries and state-of-the-art 4-D theatre where you can actually feel the snow and wind on your face.

Walking in the front doors, there's a foyer area with a few tables set up for registration. There was a couch there too. The water fountain and washrooms were just down the hall. The washroom was clean and had 5 or 6 stalls. The venue was very large and there was room between us for dancing. The stage was great as we could see the instructors, even being farther back and lots of people could fit on the stage too. With the lights dimmed, it was fun to have the glow and dark effect. The theme was 80s so the neon colours really stood out. They had a few chairs on the side and lots of space to put our belongings. It was a fun event and a great venue for it.
