I usually keep my opinions to myself, but I'll be honest this time. Alaska is one of my favorite airlines. In the states, there's Delta, United, American, SWA and Alaska as far as options go. This being said, I of course applied upon moving back to the PNW. I was scheduled for an interview (with their scheduling system shaky I was also auto-sent multiple other scheduled times). I called to confirm my showtime and showed up for the interview. The hiring manager liked me and I landed the job as a ramp agent here at Bham Int Airport, weeks later showing up for training in Seattle. On the first day of training the VA scheduled me for a very important two-hour VA medical appointment. I let one of the instructors know at the Alaska Airlines Flight Ops Training Center and they said that I would have to either cancel the appointment and stay at training or I'd have to turn in my on-boarding A/A badge. One of the instructor's manager's told me that they could try an reschedule mom for training at a later date. I asked her if this would look as if I left the company or if I'd be considered in "bad standing," she said no. Being that VA appointments take months to re-schedule and that this medical appointment is very important, I asked if they'd reschedule me for training at any available date, since I was not allowed to attend my VA medical appointment scheduled the next day training was taking place. They told me this would be okay, and instructor collected my on-boarding badge. I collected my things items from my hotel, checked out of the Holiday Inn, and went home. I called a two days later, then a week later (in addition to checking my email daily) to see if I was being rescheduled for a future class date for the ramp agent/customer service training, and the point-of-contact said "classes are full." read more
