I have stayed under Dr. Lu and team's care for 13 years. Last week I was 5 minutes late for the appointment. When I was parking, I received a call from the office checking if I was going. Dr. Lu kindly fit in a quick appointment for my 90 yr old mother when she had a crown break off. He even got a blanket to make her more comfortable in the exam chair while he took photos of the tooth. He's very thorough and explains things clearly. He will need to give us a referral for this issue, but our experience just confirms that we're very happy having him as our main dentist. And my mother kept saying later "He's so nice!" Dr. Lu is the absolute best dentist I have ever had. The very first visit, I remember thinking how gentle him and his hygienist are extremely gentle and ensure that you feel absolutely no pain during any procedure. I have been going to Dr. Lu for over 15 years. I moved out of the area but still drive 30 minutes+ to get my teeth cleaned every 6 months. It is worth it! During any procedure, I get to watch any Netflix show with headphones on and protective sunglasses. The entire office has been extremely cleaned every time I visit. I never thought that going to the dentist could be such a joyful experience! Dr. Lu and his staff were extremely personable, caring, informative, and professional. The office is clean and comfortable, and all COVID precautions/procedures were clearly communicated ahead of time as well as smoothly executed before, during, and after the appointment. I arrived on time for my appointment and was able to check in and begin right away. As a first time visitor, I had to get my teeth imaged (photo & minor X-rays), so in addition to a regular cleaning, it took just over an hour. Dr. Lu was attentive to my level of comfort during the regular teeth cleaning procedure and showed me the photos and x-rays of my teeth afterward, explaining in detail what I needed to know about potential problems and dental care moving forward. It was also really nice that I had the option to watch a show on Netflix during the cleaning and was given a pair of shades to shield my eyes from the overhead light. At the end of the appointment, as we were scheduling the next visit, Dr. Lu and I briefly chatted about PPE and COVID safety measures. He gave me advice on effective types of PPE as well as air purifiers, so I took a picture of the one in his office. If you are looking for an affordable, personal, efficient dentist, look no further! Dr Lu does not have respect for people and their time. You will be kept WAITING for everything. I rarely interact with a receptionist to help with scheduling an appointment , answer my calls or questions, nor an assistant to help with my dental work. Dr Lu does all of this himself, most of the time. He asks for payment instead of doing my dental work, so I wait, and wait and wait for a long time. He will put on watching Netflix and I sit there. I am just waiting, waiting and waiting for everything. The people I've seen working there are often not there the next time . I always wonder where his help is?! I think Dr Lu does a lot himself instead of focus on my dental work. Does he respect the patients and their time? It seems he's just about himself, to maximize his profits, at the patients expense. I recommend coming here!!!! I moved to the Bay Area recently and have been on the search for a new dentist. I randomly stumbled upon Affinity Dental, and decided to give it a shot. The receptionist is very very sweet, Alan Lu was very nice and answered all my questions, and my first appointment was overall a success! They have really nice TVs and play Netflix for you during your procedure/cleaning, and even asked if I was cold and needed a blanket! I had a painful tooth infection start up again in an area of past periodontal work, and happened to drive right by Dr. Lu's office after dropping off my mother at a meeting, so I decided to go in and talk with them in case it was faster to schedule an appt then calling by phone. They ended up squeezing me in right then for a quick check, and even took an xray of the area to give to my periodontist. He suggested using chlorhexadine to clear the infection as I had some leftover from a previous treatment, which I had forgotten, and he gave me a syringe to apply it. They got me out in time to pick up my mother and then he followed up by email later to check on things. Dr. Lu and the assistant were very kind and helpful. Love this place! Was recommended by a friend to stop by while I was in the area. It is super clean and very up-to-date with technology. I'm not one to go to dentists often but I got a checkup and cleaning. Surprisingly, it was very easy to handle. The best part was the personal monitor playing a movie while my teeth were being worked on. I watched Dodgeball. haha. Dr. Lu is pretty friendly (and fairly young). He was very helpful in being informative about keeping my teeth and gums healthy. I originally found this dentist through Delta Dental a year ago, and I've been back twice for basic cleanings for myself, and once to help a friend of mine who was having a serious tooth ache. The booking experience is great. His front desk assistant is super friendly (she remembered my name despite only seeing me twice ever!) and getting an appointment by phone or email is very easy. Saturdays get booked up fast, but they usually have openings during the week. As for the actual dental work, Dr. Lu is great at his job, and just a super nice, informative, and helpful dude. Getting my teeth cleaned was quick and painless, I got to watch whatever I wanted on Netflix, I got good advice without any of the embarrassing floss-shaming I so sorely deserved, and they gave me a grab bag with a toothbrush and floss after I was done! (Free swag is always good swag). Pricing is reasonable too. I believe he priced me at about 140/per quadrant for a Deep Cleaning, which is not bad. (Note: I didn't actually get the deep cleaning, because I'm a coward, but I might! Eventually! Maybe! If it gets desperate. He hasn't bullied me into it either!) However, I don't really write reviews and wouldn't have written this review at all if it wasn't for how great he was during my friend's emergency. My friend doesn't have dental insurance right now and had a face-meltingly painful tooth ache for 2-3 days, so he was desperate for some help. I called a few dentists in the area to see if they could assist and pretty much no one would accept a new client on a weekend, of all days. With no appointment, we walked into Affinity at 1:00 PM on Saturday when they were almost closing, and Dr. Lu still took him in as a patient, gave him an X-Ray, and pointed out what the issue probably was. He prescribed some antibiotics and pain medication, and then priced him according to what *my* insurance plan would have asked for, and we just paid the bill in cash. It might seem like a basic thing, but it makes me think this guy is a good dude. Highly recommend him. read more

New office location, and even by medical standards, this place is exceptionally clean. Dr. Lu is very professional and most importantly, he has a gentle touch, something that is important when it comes to my sensitive teeth and gums. I don't know anyone who enjoys going to the dentist, so I can't say I had a blast and can't wait to come here again, but I genuinely recommend him for dental services if you are in the Bay Area. My first visit was an examination and cleaning, something I haven't done in xx years (yes, i mean double-digit years, gasp). I was ready for an earful of scolding, but he was very professional and friendly and did not make me feel bad for neglecting my pearly whites. He kept me informed of what he was doing throughout the entire process, and talked me through it all so I could relax. I guess I didn't realize how tense I was. Oh, and I should probably mention that you get to watch movies while you're getting work done, each station/chair has its own monitor. Definitely helped me forget I was getting my teeth cleaned. I'm dusting off my old yelp account to write a much overdue review of Dr. Lu. My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Lu for about five years now and he is hands down the best dentist we've ever had in our lives. He is kind and extremely thorough & careful. What prompted this review today is that a small piece of an old filling broke off two days ago. I emailed Dr. Lu at 1am asking if it'd be possible to see me in the next few days. He emailed me back at 7:30am offering to see me at 10am that same day. I was able to get to his office that day and the following happened (to give context, I'm currently heavily pregnant with a baby due later this month): 1. Without my asking he pulled up my old xrays so I could avoid the extra radiation (I know it's considered safe, but I really appreciated this thoughtfulness) 2. Dr Lu saw that the filling was fortunately quite shallow and offered the following if I wanted to avoid local anesthesia so close to birth: wait a month til after baby or do the procedure without anesthesia. 3. He then asked if I wanted to talk it over with my husband and gave me time to consider what would be best for me. When I was considering this, I literally said to my husband "you know, Dr. Lu is the only person I would trust to do this without anesthesia." I didn't want to spend the next month being afraid that more of the filling would break off so I decided to get the filling without anesthesia. 4. Dr. Lu started an episode of The Office for me and I practiced my calm breathing and reminded myself that any pain was productive pain (birthing classes talk a lot about this haha). I also figured it'd be good to practice being in pain since baby is coming in less than a month. However, during the procedure there was NO PAIN. The most painful part was maybe a 1 or 2/10. Hurt less than the anesthesia shot that you usually get, and that really speaks to the level of Dr. Lu's skill and care. I can't tell you how grateful I am that I can spend the rest of my pregnancy not worried about this filling. It's a really remarkable thing that Dr. Lu did and it's wonderful to be able to eat without worry. Thank you Dr. Lu!!! read more

I feel so lucky that I have found this place and Dr. Lu. First the office is bright, new, and super clean. It is very high tech too. I got to see the exam result of my teeth directly from the computer/software, and there is an LCD monitor with every seat station so you can watch movies while having the treatment! In fact I enjoyed it so much that I almost forgot I was having my teeth fixed. :) Jacqueline at the front desk (and also the assistant of Dr. Lu) is very sweet and friendly too in getting the appointments done and following up with you after the treatment. Dr. Lu is very knowledgeable, patient, and professional. He examined my teeth problems thoroughly and explained everything as much as he could in the whole treatment. He also answered all of my questions, making sure I was informed of the health of my teeth and gums. He is very honest too and would not push you into getting any work that is not needed. Last but not least, as what other reviewers said, he has a very gentle touch and makes sure there is minimal pain during the treatment. Actually for me there was NO pain at all. What can't I say about Dr. Lu?! My husband had a major wisdom teeth emergency and within 24 hours Dr. Lu had taken care of arranging an emergency extraction with a great oral surgeon, had him x-rayed and brought the prints to our house late in the evening so that we could just go straight to the surgeon the next morning. He followed up with my husband a few times to make sure the surgery and healing had gone well. Since then we've continued going to Dr. Lu for all our dental stuff. Unfortunately, between the two of us we've had many cavities. However, it had been a really easy and stress free experience. The office is modern, very clean, and I love that you get your pick of Netflix shows and movies to watch while you're getting your teeth worked on!
