Went to his Dad and continued with Ken when he took over the practice. As other family members were added, they too have gone to the Schweifflers and contine to do so. We have been going there since late 60s and have always had a good experience. This is a first rate practice; if it weren't we would have gone elsewhere, but have never had a reason to do that. Excellent work involving Crown replacements and other types of dental work. All around quality execution including periodontal work. Office experience is second to none. In case in the past you had any surgical intervention that requires taking prescribed antibiotics one hour prior to any dental procedure for the rest of your life (like knee or hip replacement, etc.), you need to ensure that you take those pills as prescribed by your surgeon, as you will not be asked at the dental office whether or not you did that. This is particularly important to be aware of in case elderly patients experiencing memory loss or cognitive decline. In those cases, family members need to ensure that proper precautionary measures are taken prior to visit. read more

Dr. Schweifler has been my dentist since about 2010. Despite moving all over Northern California from chico to Santa Cruz I've travelled the distance and battled the traffic to have him and his team care for my teeth. I don't trust anyone else. I was first referred to Dr. Schweifler in 2010 by my aunt after having a blunt force trauma injury to my face/mouth. In the incident I lost a front tooth, and chipped several others (among a few other unpleasant issues). From the first consultation, Dr. Schweifler kept me at ease. He told me what my options were, and what to expect from each one. With the help of several other specialists to whom dr. Schweifler referred me, I underwent three root canals, had crowns placed, and was finally happy with my smile again. Several years later, one of my root canals failed (one of the possibilities explained to me by dr. Schweifler) I was so upset, but Dr. Schweifler again walked me through my options and what to expect. we started a whole new process. This time I had a front tooth removed, underwent a bone graft and a skin graft to replace lost bone and tissue from an infection, and had new crowns and a veneer placed. Re: COVID I recently had my first cleaning since the SIP restrictions loosened, and despite the uncertainty of the times, I felt safe and at home in Dr. Schweifler's chair. Among many new safeguards they've implemented, the staff were wore new scrubs, which they change between each new patient, air purifiers were placed in each room, dental hygienists Wear both masks and shields. I recently started seeing Dr. Schweifler. I was nervous due to previous bad experiences. From the beginning, he was thorough in his examination, listening to my input, and showing concern about what I told him. Admittedly, I was nervous seeing him for my first cleaning, and without me acknowledging that, he asked me to share with him if I was uncomfortable so he could stop. I was impressed by his concern. I would *NEVER* recommend this office to another person. I've usually had my teeth cleaned by a periodontist. I found Dr. Schweifler on Yelp and decided to give the office a try. The initial visit took longer than anticipated - one hour consultation and I had to make a follow up appointment for the cleaning. I have premium Delta Dental coverage and Chris, the office manager verified all my benefits before the hard selling about preventive care. I was quoted $711, my portion, to have all my amalgam fillings replaced - yes ALL my molars with composite. I called the office and asked if Dr. Schweifler would use amalgam for areas not exposed to reduce the cost. Chris was arrogant said, "We don't, and why would you want to?" I was extremely uncomfortable with her attitude yet proceeded with the work. Two months later, I was in the shock of my life - I owed $1596.00. This is 2x (200%) over what I was originally quoted. 10-20% buffer is understandable, however this is just bad business practice. I spoke with Chris, she didn't seem to care nor was apologetic. It took her two and a half days to "research" my statement balance for an answer: "it was your responsibility to verify coverage and benefits." Wow, insult me while you rob me. I was very clear with my dissatisfaction and would never return to the office. read more

My teeth suck. Always have. I had 6 fillings and a crown on my *baby teeth* if that gives you any indication. I brush and floss without fail, but still my teeth rebel. Right now I'm rocking about 20 fillings and 3 crowns. So when I look for a dentist, it's not enough that they are friendly or have a good staff. They need to know their stuff. And Dr. Schweifler does. He's fast and does quality work. I've never had any lingering issues or pain after dental work, and I've had enough work done to really know. Plus he and his staff are very friendly, which is a bonus. I can always get in if I need to and never have to worry about a thing. read more

I had been going to another dentist for 20 years and decided it was time to change as I was never really satisfied with my prior dentist - I had 2 crowns which I had ongoing issues with from this previous dentist, and was never able to fully have these resolved. When i went to see Dr. Schweifler, the first visit was an overall 'fact finding' of my history and mouth - including exam, xrays, digital pictures, etc. Then on my second visit, we sat down and looked through my 'portfolio', which included looking at the photos (which to be honest, for a layperson mean WAY more than the x-rays) and a detailed treatment plan which we talked through based on the exam and photos. For the first time in my life, I felt like I actually knew what was going on inside my mouth. Before, when the dentist said 'you need this filling replaced', or 'you need a crown', I just took their word for it. Now, i really feel like I am making educated decisions on what is going on in my mouth. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Schweifler to anybody who really cares about what the dentist is doing inside your mouth, and wants to actively participate in making decisions (crown or filling? why do I need a night guard? how is that crowding on my lower teeth really going to impact me in 10 or 20 years?) And, office is clean, very high tech, and staff is super friendly. My children also visit 'Dr. Ken' as well and love watching videos while they get their cleanings :) read more

After our dental hygienist left a prior practice, we were in search of a new dental facility. We found Dr. Schweifler through recommendation from my daughter's orthodontist. What is amazing to me about Dr. Schweifler is the time he takes to explain options and there is no lecture (which has totally turned me off at other practices.) I like having options and being in control of my dental health. The education Dr. Schweifler provides is a far cry from the "in-and-out" services that are customary at other dentists. The front desk (Dee) and hygienist (Lisa) are amazing as well. In my past, I had some horrible experienceswith dentists beginning as my child - probably because I went to a dental school so my parents could save some money.
