This was my first time watching a movie at Alamo Drafthouse Mueller. While this was one of the smaller theatres I have frequented, it felt cozy and intimate. You can order food and drinks via a QR code at your seat, which is a nice perk. I chose our seats and in retrospect, I should have selected seats in a higher row. The auditorium did not have a steep incline as I anticipated, however, the seats were fine. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of the communal bathrooms, which is the design at the Alamo Drafthouse. The good news is that you have a urinal or restroom option with associated signage. Like all movie theatres, the food and drinks are overpriced. In addition, you have pay a 18% service charge along with a tip. I ordered bottomless popcorn and unsweet tea and paid over $20. Interestingly, the popcorn came in a metal bowl...perhaps a sustainability measure. The popcorn was fresh and buttery. Now for the best part...we went to see the Devil Wear Prada 2. Amazing movie with many salient themes... as a side note, I know every single line of the original Devil Wears Prada. Definitely will be watching this movie again... read more

I've always enjoyed coming to Alamo Drafthouse Mueller, but my most recent visit left me pretty disappointed. I have had some really amazing experiences here coming to movie screenings over the years. You can order the tickets on the Alamo app but they charge a service fee that was nearly $7 for 3 tickets. So I waited until I got to the theater to purchase the tickets for our group. We went on Tuesday for $7 movie tickets. When someone in our party inadvertently bought an extra ticket, the staff quickly refunded my purchase and transferred the seat. The customer service here is great! The theaters are all upstairs and they have reclining seats. The seats do not recline back as far as I would like, but they are comfortable. We got to pick out our seats when purchasing the tickets. The new phone-based ordering system really takes away from the experience. One of the things that made Alamo special was the easy, low-disruption way of ordering during the movie. Now, having to use your phone feels distracting and honestly a bit inconvenient especially in a dark theater where you're trying to stay immersed in the film. On top of that, the added 18% service charge feels excessive, especially since the level of service has shifted more onto the customer with the new system. It doesn't quite add up. To make matters worse, the food prices have noticeably gone up. I don't mind paying for quality, but with the higher prices, added fees, and a less seamless experience, it just doesn't feel like the same value anymore. I spent nearly $40 for a Parmesan herb popcorn and a watermelon mezcal margarita. That is dinner pricing for movie concessions. I really hope they reconsider some of these changes, because this used to be one of my go-to theaters in Austin. Now I feel like I am being nicked and dimed for every little thing. If you don't close out your bill within 20 minutes, they auto close your tab and add 5% tip on top of the 18% service charge. This is really getting ridiculous and pricing people out. read more

No service. I tried to order a glass of using their online app. It wanted all my info including my card number to enter my order. I walked to the kitchen and a nice man made me a water. I don't purchase anything there any more since they added the 18% tip to everything. I tip well for service, but the first time I was there after the tip tax (before QR hell) it took 20 minutes to get a glass of water. read more

Love the concept as for me saves time to do dinner with the movie. Alamo Drafthouse is great. The the tater provided validated parking at the garage for 3.5 hours which is nice. This gives plenty of time before and after the movie. I've been several times typically buying my ticket day of in the Alamo app. Super easy to walk up the stairs to the theaters once you arrive and head straight to your seat. Tickets are checked once sat and be ready to provide a card for payment. Ordering is easy and for the most part comes out quick. I'm in love with their popcorn! The clarified butter really makes a difference. Pepperoni pizza is a fav as well all though sometimes the crust can't be hit or miss in the middle. Chicken sandwich also good and the soft baked pretzel. Sweet tea all the way! Tickets are dropped during the last 15-20 min. Sign and then you're on you way. read more

I could have sworn I wrote a review for this place. Especially since I am in this area quite a lot. Oddly no. Well, it's a fine Alamo. It's clean with the standard food. They do validate parking which is fantastic. However the most recent time I've gone they've switched to QR codes and cell phone ordering rather than have a person take your order. Um I hate it. Thankfully I didn't need to order, but there were definitely people ordering during the movie and not turning their brightness down. Oddly that was more distracting than having a server pop in and out. My friend who came with me said it was finicky too! At the end of the film the app/program/whatever would not pull up her tab to let her pay! We had to wait while she refreshed several times before she got her total and could close out. She said it kept telling her that her movie was over? I don't really know. Took a star off for not having smoothly functioning software, and then forcing folks to use it. read more

As a theater itself, this place is fine. The food here is kind of sub par. The mozzarella sticks were just okay and the fish tacos were not that great. It had too much pickled onions and lotta lime. The breaded fish was kind of thin and not great breading. I won't order the tacos again. They also seemed to have forgotten our food 58 mins into the movie and we had to press the button to chase the order. The slushies though, were really good. Whiskey and banana chocolate go together really well. Best thing to do is eat before or after the movie. Cause there are a lot of better food places a walk away......unless the company event is paying for everything. read more

An always great theatre with amazing atmosphere and staff. That being said, I want to highlight, particularly, how genius the new QR ordering system is. Although my phone has trouble picking up the dimly lit code, it's simple enough to ask a nearby patron to shine their phone light for me. Easy peasy! The exposition doesn't matter to most of us anyway. There is, however, a new problem unique to the Mueller location! The cell service is abysmal in Mueller, and Alamo Drafthouse's elegant solution is to graciously funnel guests onto their unencrypted public wifi network. To me, this shows a indominable commitment to helping the tech-savvy less fortunate. It's now easier than ever for some of the more determined patrons to access the financial information of anyone ordering this way (so everyone!). As someone who loves to donate but hates receiving praise for it, I really appreciate a system that may allow people more deserving than me to benefit from my bank card details anonymously. Another thing, I LOVE the new layer of audience participation Alamo has introduced by inviting patrons to police one another with their cell phones during the movie. It's nice when everyone gets to be both the problem and the solution. Finally, nothing completes the premium experience like getting a text from Alamo in the third act reminding me to close my tab. I've always felt the emotional climax of a film could use a small, administrative, interruption. 10 billion stars if I could. Ps. I got a great idea I'm willing to share... We should fully replace the pre-show anti-talking & texting warning with a live customer satisfaction survey everyone has to complete on their phones before the movie even starts. I hate to do this. I love love love Alamo! For movie experiences it's always great. Like the rest of the reviews, I'm not a fan of QR code. Like what if our phones aren't fully charged. The 18 percent service fee is wild. I think that's a lot to ask for if one is not pleasant to deal with. Fortunately I've had great service there and always tip very good. I just think that if a tip is an act of generosity, why give them more than the least of asking tip as a required service fee. Lastly, the food was not good. It's used to be better but it seemed like it was made in house for sure but for the prices I'm sure the ingredients are probably not well sourced. The loaded fries were better before. My man's old fashioned was a bit watered down and so was my mezcal watermelon margarita. I wouldn't buy a drink there. I'd probably grab a drink in the area prior, within walking distance. I love what Alamo does for film and I know that they're trying. I got distracted trying to place an order for water that I missed a scene of the film we were watching. Now it is all about the money. 18% automatic gratuity was outrageous to start with (despite level of service), and then to top it off with 5% if you don't close out your tab within 20 minutes = absurd. They have restaurant prices for movie theater food. Although I live in the neighborhood, I'll drive to the Domain to IPIC anything I want to see going forward. You guys really blew it. This is the first negative review I have ever left in my life (truly). I used to adore this place, but after my experience Saturday night I will not be returning to it or any other Alamo Drafthouse, which honestly breaks my heart to say. New ordering system is annoying and I'm still in shock that we are required to pull out our phone during any moment of the Alamo experience. I want the paper and pencils back please. And the humans. But mostly the prices - good Lord. My son ordered a dr.Pepper and the cost was $7. We assumed it was for bottomless...which would have still been way too much. But no! We were charged $7 for each and every Dr. Pepper he drank. The pizza was disgusting and $17.50 and they charged me $9 for a beer that I never received. I don't mind paying for great experiences. I used to really like coming here, but the management has taken all the charm out of the experience. I was 'greeted' by a grump hipster who could barely bother to muster a greeting. I asked 2 questions and he seemed really put out by that. Apparently they just want everyone to shut up and just scan QR codes and don't believe in human interaction anymore. I do not understand why that person was employed there. The whole ordering from QR codes from one's phone sucks too, I don't want to be looking at my phone while watching the movie. Plus I just don't think it's friendly or accessible to older people. The theater was nice and clean. I really appreciated our server, especially with the full house. My husband ordered a burger and a few appetizers, and the drinks were delicious. My only problem is, it might be a little too small for some people, and the screen didn't fill all the way up. But weI did enjoy the experience. read more

So me and my family went to this place to see the Mario Galaxy movie For two adults and two kids we ended up spending around $180 which would have been fine had it been worth it tickets were $78 and some change food/drinks were $102 we don't mind paying higher prices it's the fact that the portions and quality certainly wasn't worth $102.19 an 18% service fee is automatically added no mater what which also fine had the service been worth it first of all no physical menu was available we all ended up ordering off my phone which proved to be difficult in a place where we're supposed to be quite not to mention my husbands phone camera is busted so he had no way to access the menu on his own because your required to scan a QR code to do so my phone camera is also messed up the light sensor is going out so I had to turn on my husbands flash light just so my camera would stop flashing purple long enough to be able to scan the code which took a while to get it to cooperate needles to say making everything digital did not make our experience easier for most people that would work, but for people in special situations like ours it was a hassle Down to the service when you order digitally, you have the ability to pick your group of tables and as you're ordering, whatever you order is assigned to a seat even when we assigned items to a seat like mine and my husband's both got the fries my children got candy popcorn and drinks. They still kept putting food on the wrong tables and because it's a movie theater it's dark so it's hard to see so on mine and my husband's french fries got swapped around. The guy couldn't tell me which one was supposed to be mine and which ones was supposed to be his mine had added avocado. My husband doesn't like avocado. Same with the drinks both drinks got delivered to my table I asked, which was which and the guy was like. Oh I'm not sure you're gonna have to try them. He got Dr Pepper. I got sweet tea. They looked pretty identical under the dark lighting. So service didn't do their job correctly yet they automatically get an 18% ($14.40 for our bill) going towards them. Tables were sticky and felt unclean our napkins quite literally were getting stuck to the table, One of the ladies who ended up delivering the sweet tea I ordered was a little rude when I let her know that the tea that I got was not sweet. She asked me if I wanted a sugar caddy. I said no I would just like the sweet tea and she got an attitude with me gave me and annoyed look and said "so you want me to take it back?" and I said yes I'd like an exchange for a sweet tea. She brought me back tea that tasted exactly like the first one completely unsweet so I either they do not make sweet tea or they do not put a bunch of sweetener in their sweet tea (I'm telling you there is no way there was any sugar added to that tea) and expect you to sweeten yourself with sugar packets which I personally don't like I prefer my sugar to be completely melted and infused into the tea hence why I order it sweet and not unsweet on to the food (way over priced for our portions we received in my opinion candy my kids got was $7 each for the small box you could get at a convenience store for $3each my husband's 7oz margarita was $13.50 for one single drink The only thing that ended up being worth the price that we paid was the bottomless popcorn and while clearly it's bottomless so you get one single bowl for six bucks or you can get 20 bowls for six bucks. Depends on how much you eat. There was no button on the system to refill our waters so we were never able to even ask for refills for that. And the main things that my husband got and I got instead of ordering an entrée we both ordered an appetizer which was the loaded fries his ended up being 14 and some change. Mine was 1750 cause I had avocado added even for the base price of $14. I would've expected a much larger portion. (for comparison it was probably the size of a half order of Texas cheese fries you'd get at Chili's and twice the price) side of ranch, not included cost extra the seats are worn out and they're supposed to recline, but they barely move needles to say we're not happy with the experience compared to the price for that much money you expect things to be done correctly and larger portions and better conditions Will be looking at a different theater next time we look into going to see a movie movie was cool but that was just about it. Tickets were not worth $78. Food was not worth 102 and given the choice of the tip percentage I certainly don't think 18% should be given for that level of service. read more

However, their menu has continued to shrink with many of our favorites now gone. Plus, the new ordering system still charges 18% gratuity automatically yet the think should be less if no actual servers, just food runners. Plus, they forgot a dipping sauce that was included with order a when asked for it, they added to bill as a charge, where a server would have had more insight to realize. Lastly, the default on the new ordering system is a 5% tip on top of the already 18% added - thus, hopefully it hey adjust that as suspect many don't realize. read more

The new ordering system at Alamo takes longer, is more distracting, and is way more frustrating to use. Since there's no cell signal in the theater you have to enter your credit card info over their UNSECURED network. We got to the movie early but by the time I got the clunky ordering system figured out, I missed the first 10 minutes of the movie. Moving the credit card transaction work and time to the customer is such a lame change and a transparent way the new ownership is cutting costs at the film goers' expense. To make it worse, Alamo food prices have jumped a lot this year. Chicken fingers are $22 and they're having quality control issues like an $18 bowl of popcorn that we couldn't eat because the chili powder on it was so fine and free floating that it kept getting in our nose and throat and choking us. Had similar popcorn in the past that was great. The staff said it must not have had enough butter to make the powder stick and did offer to refund it. The icing on the cake was that I had my ringer off as one should have during a movie, so 30 or 40 minutes after the movie was over noticed a text saying I had 20 minutes after the movie was over to close my tab, otherwise it would be closed for me and a 5% gratuity would be added. I generally tip a little over the gratuity, but it would have been cool to know about the automatically added tip BEFORE the transaction so it could be my choice. All these issues left me feeling pretty burned by the changes and frankly by the new ownership. Alamo used to be one of my favorite things about Austin--I've been going since I moved here in 2000. What a shame it's been so thoroughly ruined. Hopefully an Austinite opens a competitor that prioritizes the customer instead of maximizing profits. Way to screw up a beloved Austin icon. read more

First off, this is not a stand-alone theater, and the signage from the sidewalk level isn't dynamic. That out of the way, this is a terrific Alamo. Garage parking is validated for you. Gold Star! I received great service from the employee at the entrance, as well as Daniel, my server. Only one theater is on the ground floor, so spaces to wait for the majority of the movies are upstairs, both as couches as well as table seating outside, around the corner of the theater on a patio. The movie seats are very comfortable, and the popcorn is hot and sloppy with butter. And, as to be expected, the "behave yourself or get kicked out" warnings are great fun. If this location is in your hood, or the movie you want is only at this Alamo location, you'll be happy. read more

This week was the first time I've visited an Alamo Drafthouse theater in Austin. I've watched many recent movies at home because I've gotten tired of getting into fights with loud talkers and other people that cannot restrain their own behavior in public. At this theater, the seats and aisles are kept immaculate and boorish rubes are shown the exit quickly. Viewing movies on the big screen is a very different experience than watching at home, and it was great to be able to enjoy the movie in clean, quiet surroundings. The food service is great too. The friendly attendant was quick to take orders and get them back to us; bottomless popcorn is a winner. It's well worth the price of admission to be able to relax in this beautiful theater. I hope that the Sony acquisition will mean this theater continues intact for a long time. Highly recommended. read more

Went to see the Minecraft movie at 9pm on a Friday. We would definitely come back to this location! Two tickets were around $32 which wasn't terrible. The validated parking garage was great, didn't have to search for parking. Staff at the front desk were super nice and helpful. Tons of servers during the movie to help. The view from our seat was great. I actually really liked the dim lit lighting from the seats. The food was super pricy, but I guess it was convenient. We got the spicy ranch popcorn and it was incredibly SALTY!! The flavor was good but the powdered flavoring kept making me cough. I could only have a few handful before I asked the server if she could just switch it out for regular popcorn. I told her she didn't have to change it on the tab since it was a bad choice on my part. She was super kind about it and brought another bowl back out. She even asked if I wanted butter on this bowl, and i decided not, which was a good choice. The popcorn was just regular movie popcorn so I think the bottomless is def a good option. My friend got the churro flavor and that one was pretty good, very sweet. We shared a carnivore pizza and it was decent. Honestly, it was just so expensive for a tiny, thin pizza. It's smaller than a pizza from mod or pizza press for reference. We will probably try different food options next time. My partner got the 512 IPA and agreed that it was very hoppy lol. Our friend got a whiskey banana split shake and said she liked it. Some other friends there got chocolate shakes and said they were really good. You can also just ask for a glass of water with ice and they can do that! Super good option. This new Alamo location has a great vibe. The menu is the same as you'd find at other Austin alamo locations (not anything spectacular but a great drinks list if you're into it). This new spot has a really great bar area - the decor is funhouse style and really well executed. They validate parking in the garage for up to 4 hours so you don't have to stress about finding a spot. Service was friendly and quick - we had our order taken promptly and as with any Alamo, a written ticket can add to your tab at any point. This is a great location in a cool neighborhood with plenty to do and see. The parking garage is very convenient since parking in Mueller is tricky. They validate your parking for the garage as well. The first floor consists of a ticket booth and bar only. The bar is carnival themed and feels like a movie set itself. The theme continues up the stairs and down the hallway where the theaters are until suddenly there is a spaceship on the ceiling. Once inside, the theaters are clean, seats comfortable and service was nice. The herb and parmesan popcorn is a must to split. read more

This was my first time visiting and I had a great experience! Firstly parking is validated so that's great. The interior is beautiful decorated, I absolutely loved that beautiful beauty and the beast poster and wish I could get one! The chairs recline, the theatre seemed pretty clean and the ordering service was pretty cool. I was worried it would disturb the experience but it did not! The strawberry shake was delicious as were the loaded fries though they were definitely too salty. Our serve Blake was super helpful and we had a good experience! This is full on theatre with a fantastic joy your typical menu. While it's been a while since I've been here, I was sad to see the Guinness milkshake has been taken off the menu. So for something completely different I'm having the White Claw. They were out of grapefruit so I got the alternative mango. The seats semi recline and there's a table to hold your drinks and food. Staff is efficient but didn't tell me there was complementary sodas. There was free popcorn and candy to watch the premiere of Cruel Summer which is a nice touch. The sound is good and the view was good at most of the seats. I managed to find street parking but I think there is a garage as well to park that I heard about me of th clerks mention validating a ticket. I'll be back This is a bougie theatre. I've been going to Alamo Drafthouse since the Ritz location. The Mueller location is very, with nice comfortable seats and in my visit last week, service was great. I realize prices everywhere have gone up but wow, what a shocker: Alamo premium drafts are nine dollars. Not quite sure if they're even 16 ounce pints, and the food was "ok"... but what was really disappointing was $17 for chicken tenders and fries when it was the size of a child's meal. Thank God when the movie let out Chuy's was on happy hour and we were able to fill up on queso and seven dollar margaritas. Alamo is gonna have to step up their game like other restaurants and be competitive as this was the last time we'll be doing movies, food and drinks at Alamo. $$$$ read more

I love the alamo experience, I am a season pass holder and go quite often. (And will continue to go) However, since they added the automatic 18% tip 2ish years ago service has been horrible across all alamos. If I am in a large theatre it's 50/50 if I just order water and don't put a card down that I will get the water. If I do order a soda and popcorn, the refills never come or come super late. Today I wanted refills on both only got the popcorn refill two button presses later and never got the soda. It leaves an especially salty wound to get charged the insane prices that they do at movie theaters and have to fight for basic service. Vs the water who cares didn't pay for it. One of the nicest Alamo Drafthouse I've been to! There is an awesome comedy club/bar at the bottom level. Theater rooms are at the top. There's even an outdoor patio upstairs where you can sit at! The seats recline, and are adjustable, as well as accessible, unlike some of the other locations. I love that this place also has the red light used for hailing waiters while the movie is playing. They're very attentive and fast. They have the standard menu for most of the Drafthouses have with specialty food for certain movies in the staples Popcorn, burgers, pizza and booze! my partner and i went to the 6:30 Marty Supreme show on jan 10th and were not pleased with the inadequate service we received. I watched only THREE servers run around the fully packed theatre on a saturday night, so i know understaffing must be an issue and the servers aren't at fault. We wrote our order down and waited over an hour to receive our food. It was cold and they didn't give us the correct order. I asked to speak to a manager and got a very condescending, rude, and passive aggressive answer: "that's just how long it took to come out". I was then given two 10 dollar gift cards and told to pay my check in full. Because i work in the industry im able to recognize the exact problem here, a once respectable and fun theatre experience has now been gutted and stretched thin to make the most profit possible. And they union bust. We will not be returning and will be canceling our monthly membership. read more

I never know what to expect from this theater.. Some days the service is wonderful, other days are today. I had to ask several times for a water throughout the movie. Did I get one? No. Did I get to watch several folks around me get food and water sporadically? Yes. Next time, I'm bringing my own... if there is a next time. read more
