I hadn't been to Regal Gateway in about five years, and it might actually be my favorite theater in Austin now. The seats are incredibly comfortable and recline farther than any others I've used at a theater. They go almost dangerously far back. If you're tired, you might actually fall asleep. The whole place feels clean, updated, and well maintained. If you wrote this theater off a while ago, it's worth giving it another shot. If you've never been, it's definitely worth checking out. I'll always knock a point for the high prices at the concession, but I'm not so nieve that I don't know that it's how they make their profit, so it is what it is. We've made some upgrades here. The outside, the inside, the chairs, etc. Regal has put in the money to give their Gateway location an update. All the theaters have the reclining seats and they don't make a ton of noise when you push the buttons. There's a layer of clean over this place now. A ton of stuff is now so shiny, so chrome. Take a look if you haven't been here in a minute. It's definitely worth the two new stars to my updated review. Staff is nice and helpful and they move fast. I don't have to worry about missing anything from my film. The seats are cozy now! I can lay back and be snug in my spot while I watch. I'm happy they have evolved into this extra comfy space. Who goes to the movies anymore? With so many "on demand" movies you can watch from the comfort of your home, who needs to go out to the movies, i.e., Amazon Video, Netflix, HBO, etc.? Also, many people have large screen projectors or TVs in their home. I must say there is nothing like a theatre experience - freshly popped and buttered popcorn, movie candy (technically it is the same candy you can buy in a grocery or convenience store, but somehow tastes better at the movie theatre) and reclining and stadium style seating. This supernatural horror movie Sinners caught our attention. It has grossed $300M+ in sales worldwide and it does not hurt that Michael B. Jordon (eye candy) stars in the lead role, I have to be honest, the movie is a bit weird at times. However, our discussion afterwards highlighted many underlying themes - sins of a number of movie characters, racism, voodoo, family, resilience and the power and therapeutic nature of music. Regal Gateway also has a reward program for its members, which includes exclusive access to special deals such as 50% off popcorn on Tuesdays and 25% off candy on Mondays. The Regal Gateway is an antiquated movie theater that severely needs a Kris Jenner facelift. The carpet patterns scream the 90s, there's no self-serve butter, the hotdogs weren't ready when we arrived (6:00 PM), and the electronic screens displaying the menus change too quickly. Overall, a hot mess, there's just no pizazz here. I'm not going to even dive into the pricing of concession items, because.. I don't need to state the obvious. I won four tickets to the prescreening of Lilo and Stitch (shoutout to the best CM, Tomas), and the process to check-in was easy. Just as the email from Yelp stated, "your seats are guaranteed for the event until 6:30 PM.. arrivals after 6:30 PM will be directed to the general admission line where seating is available on a first come, first serve basis". Y'all, they were not kidding!! The general admission line was insane! I spoke to one group and they stated they were waiting from 4:30 PM! If you ever get the opportunity for the next movie pre-screen experience, PRO-TIP: Arrive on the dot for those tickets! Though we weren't immediately allowed in once we checked in, we were able to snag the seats we wanted since we were near the top of the line. Note: For those who came late, copped a band, and hopped in the line as we were moving, SHAME ON YOU!!! I used to frequent this theater often years ago until other theaters upgraded their seating to stadium style seating. Sadly, Regal Gateway did not keep up and stayed with the old style of seating. During this visit, their front lobby area had no AC and most of their theaters were cordoned off with caution tape. I can only hope they're upgrading to stadium seats! I had the opportunity to take my wife for the opening of Lilo and Stich at the Regal Gateway. The employees were very helpful herding all the people that were there to see the movie premiere everything was nice and orderly, the movie snacks were plentiful along with a comfortable setting. The movie was great, my wife is the Disney know it all, I was along for the show. Overall, we now have a theater that hadn't been to in the past, we'll be sure to keep them in mind for this summer. read more

We go to this spot pretty often for movies since we live right by it but it could definitely use a revamp. We did see some of their theaters undergoing construction so hopefully they're upgrading some of the seating - most theaters these days tend to already have reclining seats but not this one. The bathrooms are adequate and could also use an update. I do appreciate that this theater tends to not be overcrowded so it feels like somewhat of a hidden gem. We haven't partaken, but they also have IMAX/4DX options. Their staff is generally friendly and the popcorn is decent. read more

Came to Regal Gateway tonight because I won 2 tickets to see a pre-screening of "You're Cordially Invited" at a previous Yelp Elite event. My sister and I arrived, got snacks and waited in line to check in. When we went into the theatre, the chairs had rips and looked dirty. Interestingly, each chair had 4 cup holders - a lower set of 2 and a higher set of 2. DONT GO HERE!!! You would think a movie theater would close down for construction, but no, obviously that's not common knowledge. I went to go see a movie at this location and I've never been here before. It's definitely the last time I'm going to this company. They had so much construction they had to turn up the movie so loud I almost walked out in the middle of the movie bc my ears were almost hurting. I could still hear the construction so it doesn't even matter how loud they put it. The construction was in the room next to ours so ridiculous. I couldn't even enjoy the movie. A person in front of me literally put on headphones because it was so loud. I asked the manager on duty for a refund and he said no because I saw the whole thing. This movie theatre desperately needs a remodel. I entered the viewing room and was instantly hit with a musky moldy smell. It's really super strong. The seats don't decline so are your typical sit up straight type. Don't come for a 2+ hour movie. The ticket prices are probably the cheapest around so I guess that's what you are paying for. I really think if you are just going to the movies every so often you are better off paying more somewhere else for a better quality and comfort. read more

I felt that the theater outside where you get food is nice and large but inside the room is small and I barely had room to stretch my legs. It's also really dirty. I am a native and have been to this theater many times over the years. However, today, it was just disappointing. My small drink is the size of a big gulp, at $7. The seats are threadworn, small and tightly placed. The sound was put of control and a couple of the speakers were bad! This place needs an update if they want to charge standard prices. We watched Avatar in 4DX and WOW what an adventure. I don't think there is any other way to see the new Avatar movie except in 4D. From the vibrating seats, to the wind, the fog, and the water droplets, we felt like we were in the movie! Bring a jacket, you will get cold. The 4DX gets a 5 star. I can't rate the rest of the theater since I've never seen a movie at this theater. I'm not sure about the regular theater seating, etc. We also didn't have any popcorn, snacks, or drinks. We attempted to see Sinners. We were turned away because we had our kid with us which I don't think was the real reason. 1)were the parents 2)she was definitely going to sleep through that movie that's why we chose the time. 3) the manager had to google the age policy she couldn't readily pull it up. I looked for the age policy several times before we got there. I honestly think they are trying to deter people from seeing the movie. This is your classic multiplex theater. Nothing fancy. I've been going to this place since the 2000s and it's still mostly the same. Sodas will cost about $7 and add popcorn or candy and you will be shelling out a couple of Andrew Jacksons. Seats are the same basic chairs but they work unless your planning on watching a 3 hour movie. They also have a 4-d imax. It's not the biggest imax just the normal one you'd find in any suburban multiplex in America. It looks like now have a subscription plan as well. read more

Regal Cinemas has made the AD devices for the Visually Impaired and blind completely NOT usable for them! We're furious. In the past they had a set of headphones that have tactile buttons that blind person can use to connect and adjust settings, they were great, easy and no fuss. Now it's an all in one device that's huge arm that comes out of cup holder with a touchscreen to choose between CC, subtitles and audio descriptions. The screen can't be seen by the visually impaired at all; and when setup by a sighted person (embarrassing, considering they were independent in the past) there is no way for sighted poeple or not to know if the audio is working till the movie starts; so when our device was not working we missed the entire beginning of the movie while they "reset the receiver"! We're angry on so many levels; they refunded our money, but clearly said these where the devices from here on out and that they were not allowed to continue to use the old one. This is corporate wide- so No Regal has Audio Description devices for people who actually have vision issues. read more

I went to this movie theater for an advance screening last night. It was my first visit and tbh the overall experience was not as bad as the reviews I've been seeing on Yelp & Google. The theater has a huge parking lot right in front of it and upon entering, there were two staffs at the entrance that guided us to the event that we were attending. We were at theater 4 and the space was not bad. It was cleaner than I expected and there was no weird odors inside. The advance screening for Joy Ride was amazing and the hostess did a great job as well! I highly recommended everyone to snag a ticket for their premiere on July 7 2023! read more
