Her name is Gloria. Since you all don't have any assigned seating, I held our seats while my wife went to the concession stand first. When my wife came back with her items, I then proceeded to go get my concession items. As I'm walking down, I get a text from my wife saying that a concessions person came in the theater and told her she didn't pay for her items, and asked me to pay at the register. As I'm checking out, with tap mind you, my first attempt doesn't work on your scanner. I tried a second time and it goes through. I then told the cashier that I needed to pay for my wife a items as well and the cashier informed me that all items have been rang up and there weren't any missed payments. I said ok and went back to my seat. About 20 minutes later, the woman who I now know as Gloria comes into the theater raising her voice to my wife and saying that she needed to pay for food. She says this twice in a raised voice. I go down and get it taken care of. The lack of customer service skills by Gloria is beyond ridiculous. For one, communicate to your staff that someone is going to be coming down to pay, or how about this, let your customer know the transaction didn't go through before you let them walk away. It's beyond embarrassing to have someone berate you in a packed theater for ultimately a mistake on the theaters part. Side note, can you all get some other food options and teach Gloria how to handle customer service issues instead of raising her voice at patrons.

The acoustics are equally noteworthy...crystal-clear sound fills the space so well that every seat feels like a good seat. It had been a while since our last visit, and we noticed several updates. There seem to be more food and beverage options now, but the most fascinating addition was the snack bar technology. You simply place your items on the counter, and the system automatically recognizes everything you selected...no scanning required. Your items and prices instantly appear on the screen, and you check out from there. It felt a little futuristic in the best possible way. Now for The Wiz itself... from the very first scene, the production burst onto the stage with color, rhythm and energy. The costumes were intricate, bold, and beautifully designed, immediately signaling that this was not a traditional retelling but a fresh, re-envisioned production. Upon entering the building we were greeted at the door and told to go to the 4th floor. There is an elevator and stairs to head up. As we got to the 4th floor there was a check-in table where you tell them your name and they mark you off. There was also another table with someone serving drinks and bottled water. We bought two bottled waters for $1 a peice. Then we went into the theater. The theater is in a church building. It's in a room with chairs on both sides of the stage and chairs facing the stage. I like the fact that it was a smaller theater. Upon entering the room temperature was comfortable but by the end of the show it was very cold. The seating allows for everyone to be able to see and the chairs are comfortable. The show that we saw was entertaining, and funny. The actresses in the show did a fantastic job. I'd return in the future to watch another show as I liked the smaller venue and the great acting.

Neither of us plans to ever attend again. She paid over $500 for badge access to attend conferences and q&as, half of which she did not even get into after standing in long lines for hours, and the ones she did, she described as being underwhelming vanity sessions where speakers offered little advice for aspiring scribes and mostly just bragged about themselves. Our first day there to pick up badges from the Omni hotel, there were early signs it wasn't particularly well-run. I asked several people what I considered to be a basic question ("How early should I get a line in for a screening?"), something most of them could not answer. One guy suggested 20min before the start time. Thankfully, I had experience attending the SCAD Savannah Film Festival twice (more on this later) and knew this was bad advice. When we left, multiple people came up to us to ask where to get in line for the shuttle bus. There were no signs or festival crew directing people where to go. Speaking of Savannah, you really couldn't help but compare its organization to Austin. You had to wait in line for hours here in the hopes you'd get in. But outside of anything playing at the Paramount theater, your odds of entry were pretty slim. Theaters are scattered all over the area (some of are not within walking distance of others) and the capacity varies greatly. They do not account for how many people are attending or likely to until about 45min before the movie starts. By this time, you may have 2,000 trying to get into a theater that only holds 300 people (this happened on a few occasions while being in line for 2 hours). They prioritize badge holders (which could be SEVERAL people) over pass holders and general admission people. I understand the hierarchy and that is nothing new to film festivals, but what I do not get (or agree with) is how they let people essentially waste their time in lines for so long just for them to be turned away because they had no head count system in place. In Austin, they do not cut off when you can get a badge or pass, so not even day to day but screening to screening, you really wouldn't know how many people might be attending a showing. If you opt to try your luck as a general admission person, you won't know until 20min before the film starts if you're getting in. This is NOT how Savannah runs. Passes and badges sell out (lately, even before the lineup is released because the festival has earned its reputation as having great selections). You can get tickets the day the official schedule is released (typically, the first week of October and nearly a month in advance). And these also sell out after a while, though they will release extra tickets later if spots become available. So unlike Austin, you are not in line for an hour or more HOPING you can get inside. You already know you will be seated; it's just a matter of if you'll get good seats. Additionally, the daily lineup for Austin is not great. You typically only have 1 or maybe 2 sought-after films you want to see a day, or you'd be able to make (given the theater locations). In Savannah, there are probably 4 or 5 screenings a day you'd actually be both interested in attending and could realistically make. Finally, when we got back home after our days in Austin were over, we heard from several others who shared similarly disappointing experiences. Many also specifically noted how the notes for scripts were bad, either done by nonprofessional human readers (who are not paid, btw) or, more likely, AI. So while I enjoyed the sibling companionship and did get to see a handful of movies (only one of which I liked: Wake Up Dead Man), Austin was a bust and I do NOT recommend.

I told them if the rescheduled time doesn't work I want a refund. This is more trouble than its worth. At the end of the day, its one person's opinion and that should not be this difficult.
