I rented two properties from Al Fox in Leisure Village. That first duplex was a positive experience. All parties worked together. The second, a house, was not. He didn't repair a broken Heat Pump for six months. This made things difficult for my disabled wife who is prone to heatstrokes and suffers from RA.
He still charged us full rent. Hired incompetent repairmen that couldn't fix a non-draining dishwasher. I paid for that as well as the garage door his repairmen couldn't fix. Al wrote the first lease with the wrong monthly amount. Never properly fixed the thermostat. Electric bills were as high as 800 a month.
He allowed sprinkler water to build up to the point where wasps used the mud to build nests in our front door. When we reported ants he said that was our problem. When we reported rats in the house the line was Leisure Village doesn't.have rats.
He claimed he never received the Security Deposit until I presented him a bank copy cashed. On September 11, We were given a 60 day notice to vacate and a few weeks later we were sent a two year Lease renewal we had prepared around the time of the owners walk-thru. I worked to move everything out by the notice to vacate, Nov 11. They were planning to sell. On November 12 I was stricken with deep vein thrombosis, and pneumonia and was hospitalized until December 6. i don't know or remember how long I was unconscious. My wife couldn't call. She had left me weeks earlier.
Narurally there was work to be done.
In the four years we lived there he never once inspected the condition of the house or check the work of his repairmen. I believe he was there when he escorted the property owners through in late 2019. His wife, a fellow broker, came through a couple of times. She works for Al Fox Realty.
The blinds never properly worked. The sliding door wouldn't close and it would fall on to the patio. When I asked for the balance of the security deposit back he had his secretary type a list that exactly totaled the deposit to the penny. Odd. He had an emergency number to call if there were problems and he couldn't find me. He never called it. My adult sons would have addressed any problems. Leisure Village Security has that number too. Be careful when dealing with Al Fox. After I got out of the hospital to check on the deposit he had his secretary call the police to ask me to leave. I paid $100 a week to keep the patio and house clean using a housekeeper caregiver Al has used. Al listed housekeeping at $475, and there are others such examples of unreasonable charges. We always paid the rent and yearly increases on time. In person at his office.
I am taking up the security deposit issue up with the local and State boards of realty, regrettably. I wish Al luck with his sales but I would never use him again. read more
