This place is literally the most middle of the road okayest sushi bar. It's not particularly dirty nor does it feel particularly clean. The interior is not super dated but not modern by any means either. Sushi was fine. It definitely favors more of an American palette with minimal raw fish. Nothing stuck out as bad nor struck me as good. It was sushi. We definitely didn't leave here upset, but also knew we probably wouldn't be back. But hey, if you're ok with American sushi with cream cheese and minimal raw fish, may as well make it a revolving sushi spot. read more

Went to Akira Sushi with my partner and had a really pleasant experience. We came in close to their closing time, but the staff was still super sweet and welcoming, which we really appreciated. The teriyaki chicken is honestly some of the best I've ever had -- incredibly tender, perfectly balanced, not too sweet, just right. Absolutely delicious. I sat at Table 6 in the corner, and while the area could use a little extra cleaning, the overall experience was great. Not good not good not good... why are people giving this place high ratings and what else do you have to compare it to? The food is just not flavorful... the only sushi that's mildly good is the one that has all the sauces on it to cover up the lack of flavor. This place has gotten good reviews because a) reviewers have not eaten much sushi and have nothing of quality to compare it to and/or b) because it's cheap. Here is one alternative... motto motto sushi around Sunnyside and 84th... An even better alternative is sushi & maki off 82nd ave and Boyer drive... travel an extra 5-10 minutes and it will be a world of difference if you're looking for quality sushi. The servers are nice but you're pulling your own sushi off the belt so does it really matter all that much? The reason this has two stars and not one is because it is cheap... I pay about $20-$30 extra for the same amount of sushi at other places by the sushi is actually GOOD. Ambiance... it's ok... it's conveyor belt sushi. Not the most romantic, very casual. A few plates fell over and were just left with the food spinning around on it which was kind of gross, but the restaurant was busy so they probably didn't get a chance to clean it off yet but it was sitting there grossly... pieces of calamari floating around on the conveyor belt. Picture it.... It was so bad that I immediately texted my friend who I originally wanted to go there and told her that she couldn't pay me to go back. The people who have rated this highly for taste haven't eaten good sushi and this is a fact. But if you want to save money and unwillingly spend hours on the toilet later in the evening writing yelp reviews on how bad this place is then yes this is the place for you. I consider myself a sushi train aficionado, if that's not an oxymoron. Sushi trains have their place - fast, cheap, predictable. This one, though, goes above and beyond. Inside is pretty basic, but the serving size, options, and freshness take this far beyond. My friend was on an expense account, so we did our darndest to pad that check. Stuffing ourselves silly on higher end plates only set us back $30. My only complaint is that there are so many beautiful options that are made to order, but we couldn't flag anyone down to get them. This was my first time experiencing a sushi conveyor belt. It was actually kind of fun and a scary quick way to pound a lot of food in a short period of time. Small portions of food and small color-coded plates move continuously on a thin conveyor belt. You grab what you want, when you want, and they add up all the plates at the end of your meal. Different color plates are valued differently from $1 or so up to about $4. You can still order more hot dishes to be served on request saving hot food from getting cold on the conveyor. The main thing to understand is the quality. It was decent...certainly nothing high quality. This is more of a slap on the feed bag place than quality sushi experience. An actually pretty amazing fast service sushi track restaurant, was pretty impressed. While I try to avoid this type of sushi restaurant I was in a hurry with limited options in the area. Saw the reviews checked out the menu and decided to give it a try. Very well done track; sectioned by the type of item, great prices, out of the ordinary rolls, and fresh. I had about 6 plates and left super stuffed and happy. I ordered a green tea and it came in an individual teapot which was an unexpected wonderful touch. We have been to two Akira Sushi locations (Clackamas and Tualatin) and both are great. They're kept very clean and I like how they group the items on the belt with a sign so you know what's what. The staff doesn't hover which can sometimes take a bit to order or get a refill on a glass of water. But they also don't hover and you can have a conversation without someone asking how things are every two minutes. read more

We stopped by for a quick bite to eat on the way to our destination. It was my first time here and it was surprisingly busy so I had some hope about this place. The lighting inside was weirdly dimmed, not sure if it was due to the temperature outside (it was over 80 degrees that day) and the dimness was to keep the inside cool but it was too dark for an eating establishment. There are rolls I have never seen at other conveyor belt sushi restaurants. I do like how they have place cards with name and ingredients of the items on the belt. There were plates stacked on top of each other on the belt (first time seeing this) which leaves me questioning how fresh the food is. I asked for teriyaki sauce as I do at all the conveyor belt sushi joints and found the teriyaki sauce here was super runny. We placed an order with the server: calamari, creamy scallop roll, seared salmon and tuna handroll. When asked for the creamy scallop rolls, the server told us to find it on the belt. The creamy scallop looked cottage cheese-like and the scallops were chopped into small pieces -- not what we're used to seeing; my friend said there was way too much mayo in it and scraped some off. Our calamari never came and when we saw it on the belt, it also did not look like the calamari we're used to seeing so we opted to not try it to avoid disappointment. The seared salmon was good and my friend said there was a generous amount of tuna in the handroll. We also tried the spicy cali roll and it wasn't too bad. Usually a trip to a conveyor belt sushi joint will end up being around $30something for us but here it was around $20something, so it is on the cheaper end but I'm also not sure we ate as much as we usually do. Overall, I consider Akira sushi subpar in comparison to other conveyor belt sushi joints in the area but I would not oppose coming back if it was on the way to somewhere and just order the seared salmon. read more

Hopefully the owner sees my review . My family has been coming here from the very first day they opened. It has been our favorite sushi place and we have referred it to countless people online and in person. Unfortunately the last two times I have been there, today and a few weeks ago, there has been a server there who refuses to fulfill my order for fresh calamari. After all the years we've been there I learned to order from the waitress made to order, so we got it hot and fresh. Last time and this time when I asked for it they took some calamari off of the train. When they brought it to me I said it was cold and asked for it to be made fresh. Just one or two minutes later they came back and said, here it is hot, with the plate extra greasy. They must have put in the microwave or Flash Fried it again because there was Grease on the plate. All the years I've been there whenever we've asked for fresh calamari it would be made Fresh then brought to our table. The fact that these waitresses are lying saying that it is fresh when we know it is not is absolutely mind blowing. Today I saw the second waitress take the lid off and put the back of her hand to the calamari and told the other lady, yes it's hot. I couldn't believe they still brought it back to my table after she touched it with her on hand. I am so devastated because there's no other sushi restaurant our family enjoys going to. All it takes is a couple waitresses who almost go out of their way to not fulfill a simple request in order to save a few cents in profit. I hope the tall gentleman that we have known since they opened is there at some point so I can talk to him. I would hate for poor customer service to bring down such an outstanding establishment. I hope they discussed this with the two ladies who are there today. My son wanted fresh Sesame balls made to order and he didn't even want to ask for it because he didn't want to go through the same ordeal that we went through asking for the calamari. Please do something to fix this I don't want to lose an awesome restaurant due to poor customer service. I have been going here for 8 years and we are regulars, and today I had the worst service there in my whole 8 years, and I won't be coming back . Me and my girlfriend were there for less than 30 minutes and they were slow today, and we tried flagging someone down to get the check, and when a lady finally came over, she wrote down the check, and put down a tip without us even saying we wanted to tip. It said 24$, us being nice people, we didn't say anything and were gonna tip anyways before she thought it was slick to write down a tip without our approval, and I put 28$ in cash on the table and gave a 4$ tip for being there for less the 30 minutes and non existent servers. This was the first time we were being forced a Tip into the check without our knowledge. We then got up and were about to leave, when the lady yelled out we need to pay, even though we just left cash on the table. "Pay up front" she says assuming that we were gonna dine and dash. We then go up front and then all of a sudden she says "34$", A 10$ raise out of no where! So me and my partner looked at each other bewildered, and try not to start a scene so my partner grabs another 10 out of the wallet and gives it to the cashier. She then starts inspecting it and yells to the back in her native language about how the 10$ bill is fake. But her co workers tell her it's not. Whoever you are, you should be embarrassed for yourself. And you did a horrible job. read more

The sesame rolls at $.75 each was speedy compared to other places. The options were set up to repeat often enough to get seconds if you wanted more of the same thing. I wish the staff was a bit more interactive. I wanted to order something but no one came by so I could. We waited for water and sesame rolls. Upon first entering, the setting is kind of stale and very quiet. I know some of he best places that appear to be less. The sushi did not appear fresh. The colors of the fish have faded. With salmon, yellowtail and even the shrimp looking dry, countertops/menus sticky, I was immediately turned off. As I was sat down and asked what to drink, i noticed kids across the way were touching plates gliding across the belt. For me a big no no. After asking for an order of edamame, the waitress touched her hair and then brought me over an order. For someone that is slight germaphobic, I couldn't believe the lack of consideration. Still trying to let the food speak i went on to try the almost bad edamame- very cold very bland. When I say almost bad I mean the edamame was turning brown like it had a day or two left for shelf life. Totally here for using veggies as long as you can, but didn't look very appealing. Dumplings were cold. Wasabi was dried out. Would not try the unagi because it looked "off". Overall. There were some good plates. But none of which contained actual raw fish.
