The sushi itself was very good, but unfortunately the service and misleading Uber Eats listing ruined the experience. The salmon sashimi photo shows 6 pieces, but when you order it you only receive 3. That's extremely disappointing when you expect what's advertised. While the quality and cuts of the fish were great, expectations were not met based on the pictured item. :/ I'm currently in the hospital and had been looking forward to sushi my entire pregnancy, so this was especially frustrating. My husband picked up the order, and the man at the counter was rude both times. The first time, my husband simply asked to confirm whether sriracha was included and was met with an attitude. The second time, the order was placed on the counter without any acknowledgment or confirmation before the employee turned away. I myself cannot speak for the ambiance as i haven't been in person but this alone is enough to keep me away. We're glad I'll be discharged soon so we can return to our usual sushi spot--Sushi Hana in Katy, which has never treated us this way. This is a great lunch spot for anyone looking for a quick lunch meal with friends or solo. I've been here twice and both times got the bento box to enjoy. I usually get sashimi which also comes with tempura and a soup and salad. The food is filling for lunch and I'd say I loved everything I've had. I'd love to come back during dinner to try also. It's great for groups cause booths can fit 4-5 people but probably not more than that. If you dine solo then there's a bar to sit at also. I don't remember seeing larger tables but maybe they have tables to push together for larger groups of 6+. Service is average, depending on who your server is. The first time our server left us alone but the 2nd time the server checked in with us 4 different times every time something was brought out which was nice. Dragonball Roll- The description says it has "red snapper, avocado& crabmeat". Normally, when a roll says "crabmeat" it is actual crab, not imitation. I wish I would have known it was cooked snapper (it was good, but when I go to sushi restaurants, I prefer raw sushi) Sakura Roll- Tuna, salmon and avocado lightly fried. This was an okay roll. Amazing dishing and such helpful servers. The volcano roll is enormous and they light the mayonnaise on fire at your table on this roll. The crazy salmon roll spectacular the fish is super fresh the cream cheese definitely adds a nice touch to this item on the menu. The monkey brain outstanding! The spicy salmon on one side the avocado on the other side rolled up and fried with excellent sauces I believe in eel sauce and some other kind of sauce all over the top superb! And it's humongous just like all of the other roles definitely enough to share. The salmon dinner comes with sauteed vegetables and rice and soup and salad. After the rolls I couldn't even eat this part of the meal but the salmon was cooked nicely the vegetables were crispy and excellent the soup was a bit watered down as well as the dressing on the salad. My husband ordered a fried rice and a sushi roll, my daughter got a generic roll and I got their sushi chefs selection and the bill was $125!!! On top of that, my sushi was a bit warm and did not taste fresh. It tasted like mirky water. The plate came with 8 pieces and I only ate 2. I mentioned this to the waitress and she just shrugged her shoulders. She did not ask to replace my plate or deduct from the bill. She said the sushi was fresh and I must not know what real sushi tasted like!! Please do not go there unless you just want to throw you money away. 5/5 experience! Decided to give Akiko a try after seeing the reviews and being in the Meyerland area. Akiko is tucked into a shopping plaza that contains JCPenney, Target, H‑E‑B and more! When I first walked in, I was immediately greeted by a nice staff member who brought us to our seats. The interior of the restaurant has a modern tone and you could tell that everything was clean. I decided to try with one other person the salmon and hamachi sushi, alongside the dragonball roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy hamachi. Everything was so fresh and I feel that the prices are very reasonable for what you get! The dragonball roll was very tasty, good size, and I loved that they put a generous amount of eel. For the salmon belly sushi, the fish melts in your mouth and was a great cut of fish. The hamachi sushi had a fresh taste to it and overall I enjoyed that as well! We also decided to try the spicy salmon and spicy hamachi rolls and those were great as well! I appreciated that they put a generous amount of fish inside and that the spiciness was at a right level that was not too overwhelming or underwhelming. I also want to comment on the dishes these items were served on as they used nice heavy pieces of ceramic plates to serve these items. I honestly can't wait to be back! The waiter was amazing and constantly checking in on us. I can definitely see this being one of my favorite places to come eat! Happy to have a sushi place back in Meyerland plaza. Big menu, decent service and good food. We had several appetizers but the faves were edemame and pepper tuna. The rolls were good but perhaps a bit over sauced. The banana dessert was yummy too. The lychee martini was delish and the beers as well. My first review for Akiko was under my previous strong impression that I *only* liked and ate tuna sashimi/nigiri/sushi. I would order some tuna sashimi or nigiri, edamame, fried rice, hibachi, etc. which were all pretty delicious. However, I returned here in early 2024 to try their raw fish after becoming a nigiri fanatic, rather than sticking to the classics. I got the chutoro nigiri, salmon nigiri, yellowtail nigiri, small scallops nigiri, foie gras nigiri in variations, and some spicy scallop nigiri. My boyfriend got the bento Hibachi box, which he said was average. The chutoro and yellowtail nigiri were okay, as well as the taste of the foie gras, but the small scallops were so bad that I couldn't swallow it down. It also took over 40 minutes for my nigiri pieces to come out and according to our waiter, my order "made the chef hate himself," which is extremely jarring as this is a sushi restaurant... That gave me a weird feeling and a mistrust in the sushi pieces' freshness and quality. Overall, the pieces were below average quality and I will never be returning here. The fried rice quality also decreases significantly if you order from here through Ubereats. This is a very average sushi restaurant, I'd go somewhere else if you're mostly looking for fresh fish and/or chefs who enjoy serving what they offer. read more

She got the lunch bento box with teriyaki chicken, she subbed tempura veggies for rice, she got the salad and ginger dressing which comes with it, she also got teriyaki shrimp....really tasty stuff. Akiko, a family-run Japanese restaurant in the sprawling Meyerland plaza, has staked its claim over the past year as our default sushi spot when we want tasty, unfussy, and affordable sushi. Across 5-6 encounters now, dine-in and take-out included, we have yet to be disappointed; it is no doubt one of the best examples in its price tier and ideally located for those who, like us, live near the med center in SW Houston. In terms of ambiance, the interior is dimly lit and bar-like with a handful of TVs playing sports or whatever else happens to be on. The service is excellent and the waitstaff is quite friendly and charming. The menu is extensive and can be a tad overwhelming, but here's a run-down of a few items I can recall: Miso Soup: no complaints on their version. Silky and cloudy, green onion-forward, and does not skimp on the tofu. Mini Sushi Boat: this is an excellent deal - $60 gets you 3 specialty rolls, 6 pieces nigiri, and 7 pieces sashimi that you can split between 3-4 people, depending on hunger level. We specified no cream cheese, which they were able to accommodate. Broadly speaking, the slices of sashimi were thick and generous. The salmon was fresh and fatty rather than stringy or chewy. The tuna wasn't metallic tasting as it sometimes is and took on a meaty character. The juicy and refreshing escolar might have been the best bite overall, so don't miss that. There was another white fish that was super flavorful and rich. Among the rolls, the Salmon and Avocado and Spicy Tuna were simple but effective. The sashimi and nigiri are really where Akiko excels here, since the rolls are just OK and tend towards cheaper items such as tempura and imitation crab. Sushi A combo: another bomb deal consisting of 7 assorted nigiri pieces and a tuna roll, plus a refreshing salad and miso soup. The tuna is fatty and clean. The nigiri are thoughtfully prepared with specific toppings, and each piece is well-packed with slightly warm rice. Scorpion Roll: a complex roll pairing spicy yellowtail with soft shell crap, pear, and cilantro. Sweet, tart, and umami, all the disparate flavors merged super well together. Tarantula Roll: contains a smattering of ocean dwellers including soft shell crab, shrimp, snapper, tuna, yellowtail, and salmon. Might be a case study in more not necessarily meaning better. The flavor was decent and the inside of the roll came warm, but it was the least impressive roll of the evening. There was lots - possibly too much - spicy mayo. Amazing Tuna Roll: exceptional in both flavor and presentation - a work of art with multi-colored roe and alternating red/white tuna. The fish was sweet and delicious with some spice and saltiness from the toppings. Dragon Ball Roll: a gorgeous serpentine arrangement of red snapper, eel, and crab-carrying pieces that played with contrasting textures, between the spongy snapper and creamy avocado inside and the savory, meaty eel on top. The citrus and roe elevated the taste further. So good. Mochi green tea ice cream: flavor is excellent, but I do wish the gelatinous mochi layer was thicker. The salmon, white tuna, and yellowtail they use are first class and stand out from the rest. Akiko is just a rock-solid option if you're craving sushi. You can comfortably feed a small group for ~$30 a pop. Plus, they are attentive when it comes to service and the aesthetic of each item on their menu. Akiko has a pretty good menu with a variety of sushi. The fish tasted fresh, and the rolls we tried were all good. They have cooked and raw rolls, and a few different appetizers. I also tried the spicy edamame. Overall, the service was timely though the rolls got to the table at different times rather than all at once.
