Another traveler recommended this bar as a place less frequented by foreign tourists, and for me it exemplified why I love eating at tapas bars in Spain: wonderful food including excellent fresh seafood, fine service (including self service option for food), and excellent opportunities for solo, Spanish speaking travelers to chat with the locals. I went for dinner, sat at the bar and came back for lunch the next day.
This particular bar is a Basque themed one, and of course the tapas are world renown at Basque spots like San Sebastian. The waiter told me that the name Akelarre means "witches orgy" in Basque if my Spanish is right ("un orgia de bruhas").
Definitely a fun spot in a vg location, with wonderful views upstairs. These people know what people want and provide it with innovation and enthusuasm. They seem to be minting money, and are clearly worthy of their success. With places like this, why go to a formal restaurant? read more
