First visit, went in on a Sunday night. Moderately busy, but we were seated right away. It's a pleasant and clean place. The menu is extensive! I appreciated that a lot of the sashimi and nigiri were one piece, so we could try a lot of things and not feel we were overordering. Everything we had was good. The ahi sashimi was fresh and nice as was the sake. I grew up in Hawaii and spent time in Japan, so I am no stranger to good sushi. Service was quick after we ordered. We ordered three times. Can I just say wow! I was not expecting this tonight. My son wanted sushi for his birthday. The place we normally go is closed, so we tried Akame. Don't be turned off by the strip mall...this is really good!! I was first surprised by the casual, yet comfortable decor of the restaurant. There was a wait, but it was worth it. The restaurant is all you can eat for dinner at about $30. You get a tablet at your table and can order as many rolls as you want. We ordered 7 first and then another two. The food was FAST! The sushi was excellent. I must tell you about the sexy jalapeño roll. This was quite a surprise. It was jalapeño, cream cheese, salmon and tempura. Oh My, I did not share. We were visiting appleton for a family event and wanted to take advantage of the variety of food they have here. Came across Akame Sushi for all you can eat sushi. It was definitely worth it. For $21.99 each, we were able to pick and choose what we wanted to eat. They give a tablet and your simply just order as you go which is great - that way you're not wasting any food. The staff made it very clear they wanted to wrap up early--last orders are taken 15 minutes before close, and we felt rushed out despite paying full price for all-you-can-eat. I understand employees want to leave on a Friday night, but it felt unwelcoming to be pushed out so quickly. I live in the area and I have been here a few times. The sushi itself is not bad. Although it isn't great, for example, the rice they use is not actual vinegared sushi rice, it is just plain white rice. The service has always been good the times I've been there and the ordering is very easy with the tablet. Bottom line would be to go there hungry and not expect top of the line sushi and you won't be disappointed. I would give it a 3.5 star but I can only give 3 or 4 and I think it deserves better than a 3 just because it is an ayce and so the value pretty much is in your own hands. read more

I happened to be close to this restaurant at lunchtime and despite some reviews, decided to give it a try. I'd say my review is more of a 3.5 star review; however, Yelp hasn't figured out how to allow for more accurate ratings. I'll start by saying the all-you-can-eat price is a little high ($22 for lunch). I don't think I'd come at dinner time to spend the additional money. However, the service was efficient, the ordering system was easy to use and the restaurant was clean. I tried two of the different soups and was disappointed in both. Neither had any flavor. The tempura fried vegetables were okay but needed a better sauce then the one provided. I wasn't impressed with the deep fried scallop (again no flavor) but the shrimp was good. I tried several of the sushi rolls and thought they were flavorful and fresh. Overall, if there weren't similar places in the area, I'd return to this place. That said, there are other options and I'd be inclined to check them out. read more

I'm only giving 1 star because I have to. I did not eat and the restaurant seemed clean. But the service was HORRIBLE! I went to dine with some of my family. I do not eat seafood but their menu clearly has other options so I was ok with going. I have done this in the past with friends at other places. I advised them I was not doing sushi but ordering off the menu other options. She told me I couldn't that food was to go only. That dine in was sushi only. We asked if I could order to go then sit n eat with my family. Both the waitress and the manager said no that's their rule. Mind you IT IS NOT ON THE WEBSITE or LISTED ANYWHERE because if I knew this before hand I would not have joined my family. Their website has order online options for location and then the menu showing ALL options!!! I was not going to sit there and watch my family eat or make them leave having them load the kids n everyone else up. So I left. They bring my to go order out with no soup and salad, I ask the server and she tells me it doesn't come with soup and salad!! This was my first time here. We happened to see it while leaving Lowes and decided to give it a try. Atmosphere was nice, decor was decent and the ordering process using the iPad at the table was convenient as it meant the server did not have to spend a lot of time waiting on tables so the food came out super fast. The staff was kind, they have tv's everywhere, and it was family friendly. That is about where anything potentially positive ended! We ordered the all you can eat as it seems to be about the only thing you can do here. Everything on the menu is included in the all you can eat price, but WOW it is expensive. Two people with tip was $100 and we shared a pot of hot tea. Now, I'm totally willing to pay over $100 for good sushi, however this was not the good stuff. The pictures on the menu are a bit deceiving. Like most all you can eat sushi places, they show you pictures of beautiful fresh fish rolls all decked out in their sushi glory and then everything comes out filled with creams, sauces, cheese and loaded with fillers of who knows what. I ordered spicy salmon and tuna rolls and they were slathered in sauces to the point all you tasted was mayo and rice, therefore, so much for any actual fish. Very weak flavors for most of the rolls and lots of rice to fill you up faster. We only ordered one round of rolls if that tells you anything. To make matters worse, I woke up around 2am doubled over with the most excruciating stomach pain I've had in decades. I was sick the entire night with a level of sick that I will not share the details of, but let me say I contemplated a hospital visit but instead spent the night on my bathroom floor. I definitely will not be returning and thanks to this experience I may have to take a break from sushi for awhile. read more

Living in Vegas for 20 years I've had alot of AYCE sushi, we never went out for sushi around the Fox valley when we first moved here because most places only serve sushi that's for people who don't like sushi if you know what I mean? I don't want a shrimp tempura in every roll I order lol but when this place opened it's the only place I go, otherwise I'd head to Chicago or Milwaukee for sushi. I'll admit it's not the best I've ever had but it's as good as your typical AYCE sushi place on the west coast which is fine with me! We don't live near an ocean so I'm sure the freshest fish is not possible without considerable expense. I've always found the service very fast if it's not packed, and the servers are very friendly! Very nice atmosphere and to me the kitchen food is very very good. The seafood fried rice, Teri beef don, tempura, noodle dishes are very good. I also love the sashimi most places don't offer that on an AYCE menu, hence the slightly higher price. read more

I came for the first time to try a new sushi restaurant that's a little closer to me than Milwaukee . I paid for the dinner price so that I can have a variety which was $10 extra . I liked the bbq eel over rice and I thought id get more eel like in the picture which has 4 or 5, but I got two pieces and a lot of steamed rice in a bowl. I asked if I could just get more eel without the rice, but they said no. If I order more I'd have to eat the rice and if I wasted it I'd have to pay extra . I didn't enjoy my meal for fear of having to finish my rice and I just don't eat that much rice because I'm pre diabetic ... I just think this place is too petty ! I don't eat sashimi and a lot of raw items , and the bbq eel is probably the most expensive item I ordered which I can't have without eating most or all of the rice . The place is too MEAN for me especially when they load up many of the menu items with rice . So if you ask me if I'll be coming back ?..... NO! My husband had a good experience because he ate raw sashimi and sushi. That's the reason why I didn't rate this place with 1star. I had a little stomach ache ( epigastric pain ) from the stress of eating there because i couldn't eat what i want for fear of charging me extra for wasting rice, which is so cheap. Of course great plans never fall in line, and we did the "order right before they close" thing. We felt a little bad but this was the one thing my sister wanted for her day. I popped in for take out and my crispy spicy crab roll was delicious. Took less than 10 min to order and get my food. The menu is huge, but some items have next to no description, which can be a bit intimidating with sashimi and sushi.
