The teppanyaki chef outdid himself with a wonderful sense of humor and his dishes were delicious. We will come here again.

Jalapeño Hamachi

Fresh high quality sushi! I only tried the Sushi bar. Not a big fan of the fried calamari! Service was prompt and the bartender was very attentive.

The Lavender Bliss Martinis are to die for. Japanese Mules are my boyfriend's favorite. The sushi is always fresh and made in a timely matter. This is the only sushi restaurant that we go to. Always pleased with our visits. We've sat in the bar & sushi dinning room. Both have excellent service.

By far the worst hibachi I've ever had. I had chicken & shrimp and all I could taste was oil and soy sauce. My husband said the same thing about his steak. The fried rice was mush. I've never been to a hibachi place where I couldn't even choke down the food. I would definitely not recommend this place unless oil & soy sauce is your thing.

This is a great place to spend an evening for dinner if you have the time in this area. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Even if you have reservations, prepare to wait longer to be seated, partly because you're waiting for your other table-mates, and partly because they want you to get drinks at the bar. The bar was pleasant, and had dim lighting to set the scene. It's nice that they had a Thursday night game. The bartender was very friendly and served us our seasonal cocktails right away. I ordered the seasonal cranberry vanilla mule. It was sweet and strong, but not too strong to where I couldn't taste both the cranberry and vanilla. My date ordered the Spiced Apple mule (I believe that's the name) and it was delicious. We were seated about 20 min after our reservation time with 6 other people and waited another 10 minutes before a waitress came around, bringing waters and asking if we wanted another drink. The waitress took our orders, then we patiently waited. Another 15 minutes later, and our broth soup comes out, followed by the lettuce awhile after. 10 more minutes then our chef comes out. It was a great show! He did an excellent job entertaining us. It started with hour classic onion tower, then he served us shrimp appetizers, followed by our meals. Portions are large and the food is oily and buttery, but have a decent "Asian" flavor. I saw at another table that the waitress was trying to box a man's food before he even finished eating. The dessert included is either orange sherbet and/or vanilla. Both were overly sweet in my opinion. This is a good venue if you're looking for Asian food and can spend at least a couple hours for dinner. I wish there was a way to give an extra tip to our chef, not just having all of it go into a community pot. Make reservations!

Has anyone ever had the chilean sea bass? I've always wanted to try but never have... thanks!

We have had the Chilean Sea Bass several times. It is light and flaky with a hint of sweetness similar to crab. It is one of our favorite dishes at Nakashima.

Don't be turned off by the strip mall...this is really good!! I was first surprised by the casual, yet comfortable decor of the restaurant. There was a wait, but it was worth it. The restaurant is all you can eat for dinner at about $30. You get a tablet at your table and can order as many rolls as you want. We ordered 7 first and then another two. The food was FAST! The sushi was excellent. I must tell you about the sexy jalapeño roll. This was quite a surprise. It was jalapeño, cream cheese, salmon and tempura. Oh My, I did not share. It was mine and I loved it. It was not super spicy and the balance of flavors was delightful. We will most definitely be returning!

Walking into Author's Kitchen + Bar in Appleton, WI feels like stepping into a warm memory. The…read moremoment we opened the door, the creak of the original wooden floors greeted us alongside the cheerful hum of a bustling kitchen. Laughter rang from somewhere behind the counter, a sound that immediately set the tone for a visit rooted in hospitality and heart. Kailin welcomed us with a smile that matched the inviting aroma wafting from the kitchen. After guiding us to our table, we settled into the comfort of the cozy dining room, accompanied by the subtle percussion of footsteps on those charming old floors. Within moments, our server appeared, effortlessly balancing warmth and efficiency as they presented a glass of fresh-brewed iced tea, beads of condensation catching the afternoon light, and a steaming mug of coffee rich with the scent of roasted beans. We began our lunch with a bowl of tomato cream soup. It arrived piping hot, its vibrant color promising comfort. The first spoonful delivered on that promise: velvety and rich, with a gentle heat balanced by a quiet sweetness, each bite coating the palate in layers of flavor. Before we could fully finish savoring the soup, our empanadas made their entrance. Today's lineup included cheese and quinoa, chicken and cheese, and beef. The empanadas were a feast for the senses--golden, flaky crusts that crunched delicately beneath the fork, releasing steam fragrant with seasoned fillings. Each bite was a perfect contrast of textures: the crisp pastry giving way to molten, well-seasoned centers. The trio of sauces elevated the experience--the truffle aioli luxuriously earthy, the tomato cream sauce echoing the soup's comforting warmth, and a third option adding a playful zip. From the first creak of the floorboards to the last satisfying bite, the meal at Author's was a five-star journey. It wasn't just service; it was service from the heart, guided by intuition and a genuine love for the craft. In a world of transactional dining, Author's stands apart as an experience where every sensory detail is curated with care.
