I believe this restaurant has been rebranded, but I think the locals will always call it TJ's. I was very excited to see the hibachi was open again. I believe it has been closed since COVID. The waitress was very polite. She took our drink orders and made a great suggestion. We also had Sushi and hibachi. The sushi was very good, made fresh, and incredibly flavorful. There are even a couple new rolls in the menu. The only downside to the sushi is that three of us ordered and it all came in one platter. This is fine at a table, but inconvenient at the grill. The chicken hibachi was done well. The chef did the normal show. One thing I liked was that he added a bit of garlic to the fried rice. Nice touch. Portions were large and even had some to take home. Although this place is kind of out of the way to get to, i felt the food was good enough to go back for. Waiter did not greet us so i greeted the waiter instead. He also took away the salad we were going to pack but that is ok. Food tasted good and all was cooked appropriately. We were their first customers so all our food came out fast. Like other reviews on here, actually getting to the restaurant is a bit of a challenge. Walking in the door, homemade signs announcing a closed hibachi room everywhere were a bit of an eye sore. Once we got in, the building, large from the outside, shrunk to a small dining room and a lot of unused space which was just weird. We didn't know if it was due to the inability to get enough help to open all sections? The host/waiter, while a bit socially awkward, was actually funny and nice and the food was really quite amazing considering everything else. I am giving it four stars just because of the food. The ambiance I would give a 3. A lot of people got take out while we were there and we could see why. Great food but the restaurant itself needs a little help. read more

TJ Thai is one of my favorite restaurants in the Fox Valley. I've been coming here for a long time, and I've never been disappointed. It's quite a place, great atmosphere and separate areas for hibachi, sushi and "main" dining. On my most recent trip, I ordered vegetable sushi as an appetizer. Real good. It comes with a dab of wasabi and a little rest ginger. Tasty! For dinner, I ordered the Amazing Curry with tofu. The Amazing Curry is, well, amazing. It's a peanut sauce served atop a bed of spinach, with broccoli florets encircling the plate. This is so good! The wait staff has always been attentive and prompt. On weekends they can get pretty busy, but they work hard to make everyone happy. Terrific place! read more

I've been here 3 times, I'm basing most of this review on my last visit. Service: We were greeted right away at the door and seated immediately (this usually happens). Our table was a bit sticky and the waitress was happy to wipe down our table for us. The menus were sticky too...bit off putting, cleanliness always is a bit of an issue here (water spilled on the floor, or tables sitting empty with the past customers dishes still on them,etc.). Atmosphere: It is kind of dark in here, bring your reading glasses, the menu print is small. Nice layout though, sectioned off into hibachi and standard sushi/hibachi entree dining. Huge parking lot, it would probably be impossible to not get a parking space, this place is very easy to find. I've never used the bathroom here, so I'm not sure what that is like. Food: The food was alright, I have always ordered the sushi (hibachi is just a glorified stir fry in my opinion with exorbitant amounts of food) and the rice has a bit of an odd texture, a bit dried out, and doesnt hold the rolls together very well, or act as a good base for the nigiri. The other ingredients are alright, not too sure that I would come back again though, their prices are a bit high on some of the items and there are other sushi places with fantastic food at a decent price. My experiences here haven't been bad, but they aren't really something to remember and get excited about. read more

We were very disappointed. Not only were we charged for a meal that was not ours, but everyone in our party also had two $56 gratuity charges added to our bills. Additionally, they tax you on the 18%gratuity that they charge. Once the bill was resolved, they ran the credit card and charged almost $20 more that the bill said. Came here for a sushi lunch on a Monday afternoon. There was not any wait and I was promptly seated. Food- The food was typical sushi. Nothing terribly special about it and it tasted good but nothing to write home about. I had a few of the specialty rolls along with fried calamari. The fried calamari was delicious. I will order this everytime I come. The specialty rolls seemed overpriced for the quality and taste but not quite overpriced enough where I wouldnt order it again. Service- Service was fantastic. Like I stated above I was sat right away. My drink was refilled regularly and I was checked on enough in which it wasn't too much or too little. My food came out quickly and the hot stuff was hot and the cold was cold. Since my original review in summer 2011, we've been coming to TJ's several times a month. The sushi continues to be super fresh and beautifully presented! I learned the owner gets the fish fresh from Hawaii... no wonder it is so good! The rolls tend to be a little smaller in diameter than other places, mainly because the rice isn't globbed on a 1/2" thick. There is a very thin layer of rice on the sushi so I advise to order an extra roll. The quality is amazing! You won't be disappointed. We brought my in-laws for a hibachi dinner on NY eve (last night). The food was excellent!! My husband and I had the chicken and filet mignon (we split it) and we shared several sushi rolls at the hibachi table. My in-laws had lobster & shrimp and the other had shrimp and steak. We all were very pleased with the dinner, service and hibachi chef (always a fun time to watch the food being prepared. The interior of TJs is beautiful- the tile, lighting and colors. It's very nice! This is still one of our top 3 fav restaurants in the Fox River valley area. read more

Great Thai food. Great dinner menu. Hibachi is on point. The sushi here is the best in the area in my opinion. Pro tip: lunch menu is about a 40% discount to dinner menu. Lunch specials under $10 for two sushi rolls, soup or salad. Lunch "hibachi" is done right. It's a huge portion for $10-12 depending on what you eat (chicken, steak, shrimp). Overall there is nothing to complain about with TJ's. I eat here regularly. Pick up pad Thai when I need a fix (to go). Awesome food. In Appleton if you need a sushi/Japanese/Thai fix---look no further. TJ's is legit. read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant for hibachi and sushi. I have tried tons of other hibachi / sushi restaurants and nothing compares. I drive from Green Bay to come here. They have a huge sushi menu with great prices! Their sushi is absolutely delicious and packed full of meat rather than tons of rice. Their sauces that come with the hibachi and sushi are delicious!! TJ's hibachi is delicous, but the service/management needs some tuning up. A bit expensive, but hey. We have been there several times and they seem to be one of the only hibachi joints in the area that has white sauce. Yay! However, they never seem to have a lot of people in their hibachi section. One time, the heat was out...so we didn't eat in that section. This Saturday, we arrived and there didn't appear to be a ton of cars there...it seemed rather normal business, dare I even say not that busy for a Saturday. We were told that hibachi tables would be 30 minutes. So we elected to sit in the normal seating area. They then told us it would be 25 minutes for that too. So we left. I just don't think something is right with the management of this establishment since there has more than one time been a long wait indicated when there didn't seem to be a ton of people there. read more

We didn't have enough time so we just order dishes off the menu. No sushi for us tonight. I ordered the Japanese shrimp tempura udon and my husband had green curry with tofu. We both shared a plate of fried oyster. The waiter asked me the spicy level for the udon and I told him that udon should never be made spicy . He said "well I can tell the kitchen not to put any spice in it." ??? - ok, well. Fine by me. When the noodle were here I noticed that it was not the Japanese noodle that I ordered. I told the waiter that the noodle he ordered for me was the Tom Yum noodle. He insisted that it was the one I order and even went back to the kitchen to confirm it. (Please, I know what I was eating/ordering). So I asked for the manager and verified that it was indeed the wrong noodle dish. She asked if I wanted to change it and I said it's okay. I would take Tom Yum for now. I like both noodle dishes anyway. But when I eat at a new Japanese restaurant, I order the Japanese dish that I am familiar with so I know whether they make good food or not. Their Tom Yum noodle soup was a bit too sweet for me. It took me by surprise when I first tasted it. But after a couple bites the flavor settled in and I started liking it. I especially like the shrimp - very fresh and sweet. I will give it a 3/5. The green curry tofu was very good. The jasmine rice was cooked just right. My husband ordered level 3 spice and it suit him very well. I will give it a 4.5/5. The oyster plate was tasty. I will give it a 4/5. Overall we like the place and will definitely go back again. The waiter needs to know more about the food, especially the differences between Tum Yum noodle and Tempura udon noodle. read more

When friends suggested tjs for dinner, I had never heard of it. As always the Yelp reviews were of little help. Newer building on Appleton far East side. Nice fresh looking place but everything was sticky. Some other reviewers said the same thing, but I didn't understand. I do now. It's like they are using sugar water to wipe down the tables and clean the floors. Everything was sticky! Had a couple drinks in their small"waiting room bar" then we were seated pretty quickly. Pretty standard hibachi presentation and food. Nothing offensive. But nothing stood out either. Nice kid friendly, group friendly place, but there are a couple other(I think) better places in Appleton. Given this areas support for the"safe" and unoriginal, this place should do well. You might not want to wear your Sunday best here however. read more

While the food is good, the service is TERRIBLE! Tables go unbussed and dirty for 15+ minutes while they quote wait times of an hour. Clients are crowded into a tiny bar with super under qualified bartendera. Then, the owner not only neglects service, but is heard boasting about "business is so great" while hugging her friends. I can guarantee that they would be SUBSTANTIALLY richer (since that is clearly what they care about) if they wouldn't force guests to be there an hour before their table is ready and would simply be efficient in their service and bussing. The place is beautiful. However, the people working there are very inexperienced and need some lessons in customer care. The food was ok, not worth the price for the unseasoned meat and veggies (we had hibachi and sushi) Sushi was lackluster and old tasting. The production of the hibachi meal was in the most random order I've ever seen and done very poorly. Dipping sauces were pretty old congealed spicy mayo and some kind of gelatinous blob they called ginger sauce. Gross. Apps didn't arrive until halfway through the meal and the ones that were supposed to be hot were ice cold. Again, no flavor. This is a cheap knockoff of Nakashima and Katsuya. and they are awful at it. I looked around the room and all of the service looked like ours, so it was not a case of simply getting a new waiter and cook. None of them had smiles on their faces and all seemed like confused toddlers with the cooking tools. We were there on a Saturday and the place was dead in the dining room. We waited half an hour to be seated. Figured out the wait with nobody in there, most of the tables were still dirty from the last service. Most of them stayed that way the whole time we were there. That's just plain laziness. No wonder this place is seeing less and less business. I will not be returning. It was a complete waste of money. read more

This is a great place for the whole family. They are very accommodating with allergies. We have kids and adults with various allergies and the staff was amazing with keeping everything separated. The chef was funny and skilled, he did all the usual hibachi tricks. The meat and vegetables were all fresh and good. We will definitely return in the future. Just visited again last night and of course had the seaweed salad! Amazing as always! A must try! This time I tried the pineapple fried rice, awesome! Carved out pineapple with a delicious combination fried rice replacing the pineapple. Opted for the Luxury Night option and requested $70 of the Chef's own choosing. It was out of this world! It actually gave my favorite Sushi restaurants in San Diego and Denver a run for their money! Actually, I would have paid at least $30 more at my other places. read more

6th time here and the service gets worse and worse. We waited 3 minutes for a host(ess) to greet and seat us. We only had about 45 minutes to eat and had our orders in mind. We were given water and then she walked away without saying a word. 10 minutes into the experience passed and as I looked around I could tell others were frustrated. The couple next to us looked like they had been there a while (empty beer bottles). The waitress went to them and took their order at this time. Arrived during a wait, which is fine so we went to the bar. It's a good thing my friend and I had a lot to talk about because an hour went by and we started wondering when we'd be seated... We were forgotten (apologies). We were seated and no one came after 10 min... There wasn't a wait anymore and there were empty tables all around us. We were forgot again (more apologies + free appetizer). So we ordered spring rolls without shrimp since my friend is allergic to shell fish. The server didn't know what spring rolls were, even though it was on the menu. I explained what they were to her and she was like 'ooooohhh that's what they're called!!' With our luck, all our spring rolls had shrimp (even more apologies + free dessert). We didn't want dessert though. Sushi was okay. They were loosely rolled and broke apart. Another table loudly was arguing with the manager about their bad service. We had the same server as that other table and the manager just argued back that the server is new and is still learning...
