Terrible service from the hostess to the bartender. Bathroom was not clean whatsoever. Rude staff. Tacky decor. Weird music playing. Not a good place to go at all. Never will be back.

My favorite sushi place in the valley! Not to diss on sushi lover (I worked at sushi lover so I'm not bias) but island does it the best!! Their rolls are unique and creative. The boats/island is the coolest thing about this place. I recently went in and discovered that you can no longer walk in for the boats on weekends. It's reservation only. Which sounds terrible but they actually have time slots/shifts where one big group gets seated together at your chosen time and you get roughly 1 hour to sit at the island. (More info on their website) I think that actually shortened the wait times. So kudos to whoever came up with that idea. My only request: add poke to your menu!! No one in the valley does poke right and I know island could do it! SIDE NOTE: for non sushi eaters- the honey siracha chicken Mac n cheese is exquisitely bussin.

We finally decided to make the trek up to Appleton to try out Island Sushi, which had been recommended by a number of our friends. It's a cozy place, and the sushi boats are a cute touch, much more fun than a conveyor belt! You can take anything from the boats floating past, and you can also ask the sushi chefs for anything off the menu - they will give you half the roll (4 pieces) and put the rest of it on boats for other people to try. So there is a nice variety. It's a fairly small sushi track, so even though we were behind the chefs, we could still easily watch them prepare the sushi. We felt the quality was pretty good (comparable to Takara in Madison, WI, but with a cozier vibe). The did not have a large variety of raw fish to choose from, however...they explained that they focus on just tuna and salmon so they can ensure the quality of their supply. So if you want a wide variety of fish, bear that in mind! And if you like spicy - REAL spicy, not just midwest spicy - try the Volcano roll! Service was friendly and attentive, and we loved the ambiance!

Really good sushi and desert. The Keanu patty was amazing. Was a little worried about it being deep fried but lightly grueling and adding crab and sauce over top was great. Had 3 more rolls that were all good. Finished it with cheesecake Rangoons that were a nice treat.

Fantastic sushi place in a good location. The set up is what I would call a sushi bar. All the patrons sit around the bar and the chefs are in the middle making sushi. The majority of the sushi will rotate on boats in front of you and you grab what you want. The chefs will come by and ask you what custom roll you want and give you half and put the other half on boats so if you get lucky you can try more custom rolls. Its all you can eat minus desserts, drinks and sashimi all for around $20 at the time of this review. Food- Food is fantastic. They have some amazing custom rolls. And the rotating sushi is great as well. Volcano Roll is super spicy if you like spicy. It is also super delicious. Spider roll is great. They have a Wisconsin roll made with a brat and mustard that I wanted to try but never got around to it. Spicy Jalapeno Roll is a great one. The chefs also like making their "favorite" if you ask them to make their favorite roll. Drinks- Didnt have anything but tea but the selection was wide since they are connected to a bar Service- Service was absolutely fantastic. The wait to get into the sushi can be long if you go in the evening. Lunch service was a little quicker. The custom rolls come out pretty quickly but it does take a while for you to order your next roll as they go on rotation to the other patrons there so in my 45 minutes there I ordered about 3 or 4 custom rolls. That would be the only thing that I would improve but not really sure how that would be possible. Bottom line, if you want great all you can eat sushi and a great price, Island Sushi is the place to go.

Nakashima of Japan

I've been eating nigiri sushi since the late 1970s in Northern California where I live, so I'm used to a wide choice of good sushi restaurants available. Again, this place did not disappoint, so do not fear going out for sushi in Appleton

Consequently, there was about four inches of snow all through the parking lot and outside the main entrance. Not a soul had worked to clear any of the snow. This is flatly unacceptable in Wisconsin. The service at the table was also poor. I understand waitressing can be a difficult job, but our waitress was transparently uninterested in her work, and us as guests, and her demeanor was as fake as her eyelashes. The food was bad. The soup served at the beginning of the meal was terribly salty, ninety-nine percent broth, too hot to enjoy, and simply did not taste like anything but salt. Having never been to a hibachi restaurant before, another member of our party of six ordered for me. I was served fried rice, chicken, shrimp, and beef. The beef was over-cooked, and was not cooked according to instruction. The shrimp and chicken were as bland as you'd imagine poorly-seasoned shrimp and chicken. The rice was not good, nor bad, just boring rice. Overall, it was just too much oil and soy sauce, not enough ginger and other flavors. The chef's performance - which is why I suppose people patronize this style of establishment - was terribly lackluster. He brought out a huge tub of butter, and I expected him to show us a butterfly (i.e., him launching butter onto the cooking surface), but he didn't even use the butter for a single dish, let along for a performance. He - Carlos - was clearly not a native English speaker and thus it was hard to understand him when he did speak (which was seldom). His twirling of, and banging of, utensils wasn't entertaining; the performance was irritating. To top it off, when he was loading cooked meats onto my dining partner's plate, he dropped cooked beef into her lap!!! All he offered was a weak apology, poorly understood. The bill automatically included an eighteen percent for gratuity, because our group included six persons. That is despicable behavior. The hibachi table seats nine persons. Not a single aspect of our group of six made extra demands on the staff, therefore the automatic gratuity is disgusting. I will never return to this place. I do not recommend that anyone patronize this establishment. P.S. If you do dine here, watch your step while you enter the dining room from the lobby. There is a variance in floor height between rooms, and this tripping hazard is not adequately marked.

And it was very inconsistent... going from little salmon to almost none existent (see picture). I brought it up to our sever and they said that's normal for them (!!!). That's definitely not worth $11 per roll. After that they avoided our table for the rest of the meal. So if you're looking for sushi, go somewhere else ... maybe akame.

We were told this was the best sushi the person who reffered us had ever eaten. Challenge accepeted! We both agreed it was excellent sushi and I have been back every time I have been in Appleton since, except when they were closed due to Covid. This time I was there with a different co worker. We decided to order Tuna Tartare and 3 rolls. We had the popper roll, dragon roll and another that I cannot remember the name of. Each was different but equally good. We also had a salad, your typical japanese salad with ginger dressing. The dressing was better than most. The rolls are huge, I don't know how someone without a big mouth can eat a piece. 3 rolls and the tartare was more than enough for the 2 of us. I have to say that this is in fact the best sushi I have eaten throughout the U.S.
