    Sake-tini

We stopped here when passing through Oshkosh and were excited to find this unique Filipino restaurant. The interior of the restaurant was nicely decorated. There were many things on the menu we wanted to try. Unfortunately, the service we had was lackluster. There were only a few people on the restaurant and even so it seemed slow and unenthusiastic. Since the menu is different, it would be nice if the servers would take the time to explain the menu and make suggestions. It took a while for the waiter to take our drink order. My husband asked if they had a Filipino beer which they did not. I had a sake-tini. For dinner we started with the lumpia egg rolls. While the flavor was good, they could have been served hotter. We then shared the teriyaki skewers after ordering the Filipino skewers and subsequently told they were out of them. The teriyaki skewers were good. Finally we shared a noodle dish called Bihon which was very tasty and different. All in all we enjoyed our dinner, but the experience could have been much better with more attention to detail and enthusiasm from the staff.

What an unexpected surprise in Oshkosh! I don't remember who recommended Manila to us, but I do remember that it was someone at another restaurant in another town in Wisconsin. I was pretty skeptical--delicious Filipino food in Oshkosh? I'm very glad that I put my doubts aside. We ordered the pork lumpia and vegetable lumpia to start. These are more egg roll sized than lumpia sized in my opinion and are a little bland, but the pork sisig made up for them! I want to go back just for the sisig. It was so flavorful and not to greasy, which sometimes happens with sisig. We followed with more pork, the crispy pata. Another well prepared dish, this pile of nicely seasoned pork was a great balance of meat and crispy skin that shattered in your mouth. Next time I'll ask for a little more scallions on the side because I loved the contrasting freshness to the richness of the pork. Not to ignore sweets, we finished with their halo halo, a refreshing end to a big meal. Nearby, a large group of locals were celebrating girls night out with a boodle: we are so excited by the food and the boodle that were coming back to Oshkosh in a month with a larger group! Totally recommend this place if it were in any city, but particularly recommend as a great change of pace in Oshkosh. In post: Crispy Pata Halo Halo Vegetable Lumpia Pork sisig

Service was great. Food came in large portion. My only suggestion is they need to use an actual Filipino soy sauce on their Filipino dish instead of Kikoman soy sauce. I can tell the difference in the taste, or what's missing in their Filipino dish especially the Beefsteak. Also serve a small slice of Lime on the side of Sisig dish so people who does not know dish would get the idea on how eat it. I would definitely come back again.

Pricey but legit. Never would I have thought to find traditional Filipino food in Wisconsin, but it does exist! And it's weirdly paired with a sushi bar? Never seen such a thing! Anyways, I cruised by this spot the other night to grab some dinner and ended up sitting at the bar since I was flying solo. While no San Miguel beers are available, they do have a full bar of local/domestic beer in bottles and on tap, wines, and an assortment of signature cocktails. Bartender, Cameron, was cool to talk to and kill some time. For food, I ended up deciding on the lechon kawali. While it was $17 for the dish (pricey I know), it did come with a generous portion of the most perfectly cooked lechon served with a side of sweet liver sauce (pretty sure it was mang tomas), rice, and traditional pickled vegetables. Definitely had no problem polishing that off as every bite reminded me of home. All in all, while dishes were pricey in general, I'd definitely come thru again for the Filipino food. 'Til next time, cheers! 291/365

I was hesitant at first to eat at a Filipino restaurant in Oshkosh but what a wonderful surprise. Ordered the lunch combo Pick 3 - Lechon Kawali with fried rice and 2 sides. Ordered Crispy Pata to go also. All the food was delicious and the service was great (server was Trinity and host was Katie). Worth the drive from Appleton. Definitely recommend this place!!!

Went with friends that had been before and shared the crab rangoon and pan fried gyoza for starters--both were delicious. I ordered the Lechon Kawali (fried pork belly) with Garlic rice. The pork was perfectly crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. The garlic rice was made better by their citrus soy dipping sauce. My husband ordered Pancit Sotanghon with chicken as well as the Offbeat Sushi roll. The Pancit had much more steamed vegetables than chicken, but he enjoyed it. The sushi was good, but nothing to write home about. The Halo-Halo was not what I was expecting. The candied tropical fruit was hard and artificial tasting. I would recommend trying the lava cake or turon instead. Our friends had recommended the lava cake, but it required a 30 minute prep time. Our waitress recommended next time ordering dessert when the entrees are brought out. Great service, but expect a little bit of a wait for food to be brought as it's prepared to order. We were also told they have live music on Saturdays which would make it a fun date night spot to try. Overall, the food was good, but it wasn't quite worth the price for us.

My fiance and I went last night, and the let down was unexpected. Service: Our service was just as bad if not worse than the first time, our waitress was unattentive and seemed like she was out of breath every time she came to our table. There were 4 servers that I could see and about 6 to 8 tables (most which were done eating by the time we had arrived). Maybe she was helping out with to-go orders? The entree I had included a high level of spiciness, which is a hint to all servers out there, make sure I have water. My water glass was empty 2 minutes after we were served our entrees and was not refilled until she gave us the check, which she gave us before we were done eating (rude). She never offered to refill our wine glasses either (which were basically empty when she delivered our entrees). Food: I don't know what was going on in the kitchen, but all of my sushi was made with 2 sheets of nori for one maki roll so they fell apart. I've never seen sushi assembled this way (I've watched youtube videos and been to a class in green bay). My appetizer spring roll was not edible without using utensils. I just was very unimpressed with the food. My fiance had chicken and it was pink in the middle on one of the pieces and the skin was rubbery and soft. I sure hope things turn around here, but I'm not sure we will be back to notice.

I am a first timer to Basil Cafe and wanted to share my experience. I moved here from the Bay Area…read moreand I love any type of Asian food. All my local friends recommended that I try Basil Cafe. And I did and it was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in 40 years. I asked a friend if she had tried this cafe and she hadn't. FYI, I called around 7:15 prior to our arrival and asked what time they closed. He said come now since the kitchen closes at 8 and all orders have to be in before then. It was a Friday night, we arrived at the restaurant and were sat immediately. At 7:20ish the restaurant was still busy which we thought was a good sign. Our server greeted us with the menus and walked away. I didn't think anything of it until she returned to take our order. The initial impression was EXTREMELY uninviting and we should have left at that point. Her first words, "you know we close at 8" which we knew and were trying to hurry to be respectful of the chefs. We immediately ordered which was approximately 5 minutes after being sat. She asked if we wanted our food mild or spicy and then walked away. She did bring us water but never refilled until we were almost done with our meals. She even spilled water as she was pouring and not once to she say sorry or clean it up. Our food was delivered promptly by another server who at least had a smile. As we unfolded our napkins to eat, our server dropped the check and requested to flip it over when ready to pay. My guest looked at me in amazement and stated, "Wow we haven't even taken a bite." As we ate our meals, not once did she approach us to ask if we needed anything else or how the food was. I watched her interact with another table and she seemed to attend to their requests. I was in disbelief by the way she handled herself as a server. I just kept thinking, wow I'm actually paying money for this. We were never rude and remained polite even though her service was HORRIBLE. My guest looked at me and said, "I have lived her all my life and have never had this kind of experience at a restaurant." I was so disappointed about my choice of restaurant that I did not even finish my meal. I took maybe 2 bites and was done. Being that I barely touched my meal, most waitress would have asked if it was ok but not our server. "You want that boxed?" I was like "Yes Please" while thinking "hell yes so I can get out of here." We left within 40 minutes of our arrival so the kitchen had barely rung the closing bell. As soon as I got in my car, I immediately texted my friend who raved about your restaurant and advised "F that place, never again, I have never been treated so badly by a server." I did check the restaurant reviews after this and it spoke of the atmosphere, the friendly staff, the food, and the drinks. Well I wish I could have experienced that but no! I contemplated writing this review since it usually goes nowhere so I spoked to my friends who have visited your establishment and those who have not. The friends who have visited were very disappointed and others stated, "they would not be dining there". They all came to the same conclusion to share so if anyone is trying to figure out whether Panda Express or Basil Cafe, the Panda would be my first choice after this. If I could give you a ZERO star I would but 1 star it is since that is my only option. I will say the food was good so thanks to the chef. But I rather dine at a restaurant with crappy food with an exceptional server than the opposite. I did give her a tip even though she did not deserve it. Hopefully she shares her tips with the chef since they did all the work.

I could use the bang bang broccoli as an entrée. I ordered the entrée feature for this season. I believe it was called Guay Tiew. Had beef bone and a meatball for the protein. It was definitely good but it was a lacking some flavor. I want to visit again soon. Staff was fantastic.
