It's currently 106 degrees on Saturday in Dallas. My outside unit had stopped working correctly…read moresometime last night. I asked friends for suggestions and got a couple. I called them and the soonest they could see me was Monday. I wound up on Yelp. I contacted a different HVAC company on Yelp but Yelp sent my information out, and Alan with HM Tech responded. Meanwhile I was reading a lot of reviews and getting a lot of answering machines and "see you Monday" appointment calls. As my inside temperature kept rising, I finally called Alan back, told him my problem, and asked how much a service call was and when he could be at my house. He told me the service call was $85 and said he could be here in a couple of hours (again, on a Saturday). He was here just about exactly when he said he would be, and he went right to work outside. By then my temperature inside was at 86 degrees. After maybe 20-30 minutes, Alan said that the fan capacitor and the compressor capacitor were both out and would need to be replaced. I asked him what that meant, if he had them, etc. He said yes and gave me a quote. I gladly approved the work. By about 3 o'clock, maybe a minute or two after, the work was complete. The invoice including his service call fee was under $400. (Again - on a Saturday.) While I don't wish for more HVAC problems, it's good to know I'll be able to rely on someone who is , honest, responsive, and very professional. I enthusiastically recommend Al's work!

Luis went above and beyond with checking on another potential job for me. I will definitely use this company again and ask for this team specifically!!

Slimy company that acts like used car salesmen. Paid $190 for a tech to come out. Jordan Crowsey's…read moreprofile said he had been with the company for 12 years, sounds like he's experienced! He gets here, tells us the compressor is blown and they no longer make it so we need to replace the whole unit. He gives us two different quotes ranging from $12k-$15k. We call an additional company out on Monday to get a second opinion, the tech diagnoses the issue and repairs the faulty wire in under 5 minutes. I immediately called AHS back as I'm now questioning what exactly Jordan did that I paid $190 for. My invoice says "blown compressor" but that doesn't tell me the diagnostics ran. AHS has no detailed service notes. Requested a refund as there is no tangible proof that their tech even tried to diagnose the issue vs. just taking a picture and trying to sell me a new unit. Was told that this has to be discussed with the homeowner even though the company came out and took my money without ever speaking to the homeowner. Learned these guys are commission based, makes sense. Go to a legitimate contractor who isn't all about making sales.

WARNING: This company was bought by Dunrite Heating and Air. Please read their reviews before…read morecalling this company.  I had a terrible experience with this company and was eventually forced to file a credit card dispute because I was charged for services that never got started. So the problem I wanted to get addressed was that the exhaust pipe from my attic furnace was collecting condensation and causing a leak. 1. Initial Visit: A technician came out to diagnose the issue. He said that the pipe had to be replaced due to rust and the cap had to be added to the roof end of the pipe because it was completely missing. He charged me $3000 for replacing two sets of pipes. I thought it was expensive but went through with the transaction because of the high reviews on yelp. 2. Failed Service: On the scheduled date, technicians arrived but refused to replace the pipe because my roof was "too steep." I was told they would reschedule with a crew equipped and willing to work on steep roofs. 3. No Follow-Up: The company never rescheduled this service. I tried calling them multiple times but the only response I got was that they would call me back. (the customer service rep was kind and responsive) Do not use this company if you want reliable service or basic communication.

Important note: This company was bought by Dunrite Heating and Air. Please read their reviews…read morebefore calling this company. Sadly, the owner of Nick's passed away and this company is now owned by Dunrite. I called that company based on the reviews of Nick's Air Services, but their services has definitely NOT been the same as mentioned on this profile. In summary, this company is expensive, can make improper recommendations, and the office is very difficult to get anyone to call you back. I absolutely would not use them again in the future and - had I read their Yelp profile for Dunrite Heating & Cooling - would never have called them in the first place. My experience: My air conditioning due to leaked refrigerant due to another HVAC technician not correct. Nick's/Dunrite came out during the same day and quickly identified the problem. There was a leak on the schrader valve. They got us back to running - for nearly $200/per pound of refrigerant. 5 lbs = about $1,000. Wow, but we had no choice as my original installer was not available. Our unit has not been keeping up with the 90s for the past two months and the technician recommended 3 different options. I chose 2 of the 3 options: a larger return air duct AND repairing the plenum. I was anxious to get the work scheduled and it took me hounding them to get them to schedule the work. Communicating with this office was very painful. I would never get calls back and would just get a text message indicating when they had scheduled the appointment. Their front desk support was exceedingly helpful but not empowered to do anything besides schedule appointments and pass along info. I finally had the appointment and the technician went to the wrong address. I got a call from them saying they had been at my house and then they proceeded to the next job. I spoke to them and learned they were at the wrong house, but could not turn around to go back to my house. I had to wait until the following week to get the appointment rescheduled. What a disaster. It got worse. The work was finally done - the return air duct and the plenum. I waited a couple of days, but there was NO change in the air conditioning. I called them back again and they scheduled another technician to come out. The second technician came out, a more senior technician, who confirmed that the unit was undersized and "working as it was designed" to cool at 75-76. I don't know a single person who is comfortable with 75-76 in the house when the outside is in the 90s. I called customer service again. When I finally got someone, I got a call from William, who is their most senior technician (an older guys in his late-50s probably). He came out with the original technical and instructed him how to properly do a heat load calculation. They determined indeed the unit is undersized and I needed a 3 ton. I called back the customer service asking for a refund to the work. I've called at least 3-4 times, each time speaking with a very nice person. However, I've still not been called back. What a disaster. I've finally had to resort to filing a complaint with my credit card and disputing it through them. It's unfortunate and I didn't want to have to do this, but - when no one will call you back - it's very very hard to trust this company to make things right.
