He removed a canister filter slightly further into the unit and said it was causing most of the problem. The replacement was $20 and he had one on hand. He also gave us a couple more tips on how to improve performance, and since we no longer have carpet in the house, he showed us a canister vacuum for when we are ready to replace ours. It is designed for bare floors and was a reasonable price. But we weren't ready for that yet, so we are going to get more use out of our now rejuvenated old one and replace it at a later date. I feel safe in saying that you will always be treated fairly here and he will save you money when he can. I suppose I should give a pandemic update as well for those who care. This is a very small store, but not busy. So he doesn't wear a mask or encourage them, though he has a small air purifier on hand. He stated he doesn't know anyone who has gotten COVID but knows three people who have died of the flu, so if you feel the pandemic is overrated, you will find a sympathetic ear. All others wear masks.

I would not recommend this company for installing an AC into a mobile home. My family had used…read morethem to install AC for a mentally impaired family member. Before completing the job (8-16-23) , it was determined it was not operating properly. Hughes determined that the duct work had been damaged by animals and had to be replaced, which they did on 8-27-23 for an additional charge of $2,000 plus $100 for moth balls and rat poisoning. Within a short time, Hughes H &A were called again due to problems and upon coming to check the problem, they said the duct work had been destroyed by armadillos again. The answer by them was replace the duct work and place mothballs and rat poison under the house at a very large $$$ charge once again. It was at that point our family determined that something was clearly wrong here. Upon examining the area of the duct connection, we found they had removed some of the duct work and left a huge hole totally exposed. We then called three other AC contractors to analyze the problem. All three of these contractors said standard operating procedure was to enclose the area where the duct connected to the AC with a shield that covers the area on back of the AC all the way to the back the wall of the house where the duct work goes under the house. All said that it was always required and the duct connection to the AC should never be openly exposed. All three provided quotes to replace the duct work which included a metal shield to cover the duct work which would prevent any animal from gaining access to the duct work. Hughes' answer of just use some rat poison and moth balls while may have been somewhat helpful, it certainly was NOT the professional way to prevent the problem. I would say it was a "half done job" and if they did not know better, they should have know better, that ended up costing us lots of $$$. I would NOT recommend that Co for any AC need.

I appreciate that when I call, I get the same one or two people on the line - they don't know me but it's nice to have a little familiarity. One thing I really appreciate about their service is that when orders sometimes go off schedule (though MY fault - say there's a holiday, or I'm traveling, or I messed up and missed the truck), they do make an effort to work with you and meet your needs. This morning for example, just like most weeks during Covid, my mental calendar was off. I completely forgot to leave out my many empty bottles, but it was important they be counted in this particular bill, just because of roommates coming/leaving. The error was mine, but when I realized I had erred, I called in, and the man answering the line arranged for the driver to come back for my bottles, even though I'd offered to drive out and bring them to him. I prefer to use family companies and small business whenever possible purely for economic reasons (support small business! Monopolies are not good for the middle or lower class!). Anymore, I rarely anticipate that companies will make efforts to work with you, and meet your needs even when they're off schedule. I really appreciate that McCullough is a family business that treats me like a human instead of anonymous caller #395735B, and after 4 years have nothing but good things to say about their operation (especially now that they have paperless statements!)
