Air Canada agents in Calgary completely lied to my face after misplacing my luggage. At the baggage claim they told me they would be able to transport my luggage to my parents home where I am staying and that it was "on the next flight already" (I landed at 3pm). I was told the bag would arrive at the house between 7:30-8pm which I had no issues with. Once 9:30pm came around, I called the lost baggage service and after being on hold for 30 mins told them my situation. It is now 1:30 am and I am still waiting for my bag to arrive, which is now supposed to come before 2am. I used my tracking number to seek further information about the location of my luggage and saw that the "order" for my bag to be delivered was not put in untill 10:17pm as opposed to 3pm which is when I landed and WAS TOLD IT WAS ALREADY ON ITS WAY. Thank you air Canada for leaving me without any clothes or belongings once again and lying to a loyal customer. Safe to say I will never fly with you again and highly recommend avoiding this company at all costs. So disappointing to be lied to about my belongings which I paid $30 to arrive with me!!!!! I'm giving one star to Air Canada Flights to Montreal because I have no option or I would've given a 0 star. I also have to clarify that our customer services experience with other routes, have always been pleasant. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE MY STORY!...IT IS SHOCKING! My husband and I took flight AC1651 leaving Miami on Dec 10, 2016 at 11:55 a.m. to Montreal to connect to our flight home to Calgary. Our flight from Miami to Montreal turned into a real nightmare! I needed to go to the washroom and let me tell you I'm a small older woman with a small bladder so I really can't hold it for too long. I was sitting in economy on the third row behind business class and I was trapped by the serving cart which was blocking the economy washroom. One of the flight attendants was nice and tried to help me as I told her it was an emergency. She asked the flight attendant from business class if I could use the business class washroom, the rude light attendant from business class said no as those passengers pay more money and that was their private washroom and that I had to wait until all lunches were served. I waited the most I could an when I couldn't hold it anymore, I just went into the business class washroom as the economy washroom was still blocked. The rude flight attendant from business class immediately went to the speakers to make a couple of announcements to embarrass me while I was using the washroom. When I came out, she was so angry that she followed me to my seat and started yelling at me. I could not believe what was happening. I politely reminded her that it was an emergency and that I could not wait any longer and she continued yelling at me. I asked her to let it go and she finally stopped and left. At that moment, I could not believe what just happened and the passengers seating close to me shared my disbelief. I have never been treated like that before for just meeting my basic needs. I wasn't expecting special treatment but at least some compassion. This experience upset me so much that even though we had great experiences using other routes, we will never use Air Canada again! I'm sure WestJet or any other airline will show way more compassion toward their passengers in similar situations. I don't understand how Air Canada talks about hospitality when their crew members are treating their passengers this way. I WILL NEVER FORGET this horrible experience and I will tell my story to as many people as I can. read more

Flight from Honolulu to Vancouver to YYC on December 1/2 2011 was so awful due to Air Canada personnel that I will fly ANY other carrier in the world to avoid them. On the Honolulu flight a steward who would not give his name was screechingly rude and sarcastic when we took a wrong turn through business class boarding the plane. I spoke with him about it and he said he was joking but later admitted it was not funny and apologized only after i told him i would be contacting Air Canada. His colleague would not give his name but told us "he is always like that". We usually do fly business but were travelling home for an emergency. Later, When I voluntarily went to pay customs charges in Vancouver there were no cashiers on duty as it was so early. I was the only person on the entire plane who declared anything. I was thus slightly delayed getting through to my connection and re-checking my bag through to YYC. At bag drop off, an agent named Peter told me I was causing problems, was (quote) a "trouble maker" and "that is why they held you at customs". He assumed I was held up there as opposed to voluntarily trying to do the right thing and declare/pay. He was surly, arrogant and awful. He would not let my husband wait for me and I could not find him until I finally got to the gate. We were flying home for a family emergency and I was reduced to tears. I will use up Aeroplan points on other carriers, or give them away, and will refuse AC for corporate travel. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Every time I have flown with Air Canada, it's been over the top, outrageously ridiculous the stuff that ends up happening. First of all, every single time I have flown with Air Canada, they have overbooked and I've been bumped. Every, single, time. Last time I missed the meeting I was flying there for, so it was really pointless. They offered me a $200 voucher for this, and when I did get to Toronto, they had taken my luggage of the plane in Calgary, and left it down at baggage because they thought I wasn't going to fly. So I missed my first meeting, and had no clothing, makeup, etc...for my next. So, when my partner had to fly home for a funeral in the most recent scenario, I thought I'd let him use the voucher. We called and reserved a flight and were told that no problem, we could use it. It was a last minute flight to Toronto, so of course the fees were astronomical. When we tried to pay, we were told that no, we actually could not use the voucher because our last names were different...? They were completely heartless as well - they treated us like we were a major inconvenience and actually said 'I don't need to know about the funeral part, that's irrelevant'....uhhhh. Ok? We were also told they had reserved our flight at a certain fee, but when we went to pay, the rate went up. We were given a reservation code SPECIFICALLY because of this happening. But they would not honour it. It was now $300 more for the flight, AND they would use the voucher, so another $200 more. That's a total of $500, on top of the already $600 flight. The flight would be $1100 for one person. And they wouldn't offer a bereavement fee. Needless to say, we couldn't fly home. I am so disgusted with this airline. They woman on the phone was absolutely heartless and they did absolutely nothing to help us. To be honest, I don't think they really even cared if we booked a flight with them. I really hope that they end up like many other airlines that forgot who's paying them, and go bankrupt. read more

Now I know why the stock of this company is in the toilet. I paid for my ticket and my gf's ticket weeks in advance. We arrived at the airport and got a boarding pass with her seat number and then mine with an unassigned seat number. Like WHAT?!?! I knew there were going to be problems from there and sure enough there were. Not only were my gf and I sat 14 rows apart, but we arrived in Calgary only to have our luggage lost! How, in 2016, are airlines still losing luggage????!!!! Why does this airline not take steps to address a problem that causes so many people grief??? This is not rocket science?? RFID tagging anyone??? The worst part of this ass backward company is that they just don't care. They have no concern that they've screwed over someone's trip and that $1000 of clothing and items are just gone! read more

In over 30 years of airline travel (and 400+ flights), I just experienced the worst service ever with your airline!! When I went to check in online, I was given the option of Economy Plus for both the flight to Los Angeles and the flight from there to Maui. I chose both, since I'm 6'4" and need the extra legroom. The first flight (AC4142) was a small jet. When I got to my seat, I couldn't see any difference between it and the seats around it and it was obvious that I didn't get what I paid for. Fortunately, I was able to negotiate a bulkhead seat, for free. Still, it was far from ideal. I wound up next to an obese woman whose bulk overflowed the seat and I wound up spending much of the flight leaning away from her. It was extremely uncomfortable. On the second flight (AC5243), the Economy Plus service lived up to its advertising and I had a good flight. Coming back from Maui, (AC058), I used your online check in service, booked seat 19F and checked a bag, but there was a blank spot in front of my seat in the seat diagram and I was unsure of what it was. When I called in to ask about it, I wound up with an agent who was quite angry with me for getting that seat, telling me that they shouldn't have been available and that all bulkhead seats were reserved for babies, bassinets and people with disabilities. I asked her about getting a first class seat, but she quoted me another $1,500.00 on top of what I'd already paid. That was outrageously expensive, and I turned it down. When I asked her about an exit seat, she told me that I'd have to wait until I got to the airport for that seat assignment and I decided to do so. Also, she rebuked me for my request about legroom. When I got to the airport, I was greeted with a long lineup and no Air Canada personnel in sight. I wanted to find out where the express lineup was to drop off my checked bag, and I walked to the counter next to the Air Canada lineup. I spoke with a Hawaiian Airlines ticket agent who informed me that there was no express check in and that I'd have to wait in the regular lineup (roughly an hour long) to check my bag. I was furious! What's the point of offering an express online checking service if you still have to check in with everyone else? Fortunately, the agent noted that I only had carry-on luggage and she told me that I could bypass the check-in and go directly to the gate. As a side note, my girlfriend was traveling on WestJet, and she chose the same advanced check-in option as me. She breezed right up to the front of the designated line and her bag was checked in within a minute. When I got to the gate, there were no Air Canada personnel to speak with. They only showed up 15 minutes before the flight. When I went to change my seat, I met the same Hawaiian Airlines agent who informed me that (Air Canada) sub-contracts, but these agents weren't wearing Air Canada uniforms, so I had no idea who they were. Again, I tried for an exit seat but was told that none were available. I spoke of my issues with the online agent, and the Hawaiian Airlines agent backed me up, saying that my choice was OK. When I arrived at my seat, I found a woman sitting there with a baby, waiting for her husband. She informed me that while their seat assignment was some rows back, they had really wanted this seat and moved there, despite the fact that I had a reserved seat. Further, the she told me that when they got the bassinet, it would encroach on my seat space and I wouldn't be able to stretch out. To claim my seat would have meant an argument with these people, who clearly made it known that their needs were more important than my own. This angered me immensely. No one told me this up front and it was obvious I was being bumped. I made my way to the front of the aircraft to get a new seat assignment, but quickly discovered the flight was nearly full and few seats were available. I was told by the flight attendants to go up the ramp and talk to the ticket agents. I did and met them coming down. They then directed me back to the flight attendants. I was getting pretty flustered by this time since it seemed that no one wanted to help me. Finally, the ticket agents took charge and found me a seat at the back of the aircraft, but then I had no room for my carry-on luggage. It was sheer luck that the seat beside me was empty and I could stow my laptop. Not so with my other bag, which was moved ten rows further up. My new seat was too small and when the passenger in front put his seat back, I had no room for my knees and I was jammed in tight. I was able to turn sideways but I had no way of sitting forward without being pinned in my seat. It was extremely cramped and uncomfortable! The bottom line... Air Canada only cares about your money, not your comfort. Don't fly with them!! read more

I showed up at airport an hour early, I stood in line to check in for a whopping 35 minutes. I watched as 3 or 4 clerks came and went, and worked nice and slow giving tons of attention to the large families with tons of luggage. When It came my turn to check in with my one carry on, I was told I probably wouldn't make my flight and should transfer to next flight. They showed no mercy charging me $78 transfer fee, and was given attitude for not showing up even earlier and needed to be taught a lesson. I showed at my gate and my original flight was just starting to board. Brutal service, and totaly inconsiderate, be sure to pick the alternative, I will from now on. read more

That whole "Canadians are so nice" is false when is comes to Air Canada. Some real grumps. Never making the Air Canada mistake again.

Air Canada is by far the least enjoyable carrier to travel on. I only choose Air Canada when there is no other option or if the seat is a code share on another carrier like United. I can't remember a trip with AC that left on time but the worst part is the staff. They go beyond being generally unhelpful and appear to enjoy making life unpleasant for their passengers. If you do need to call for assistance, prepare to sit on hold for at least an hour just to get through to a person. read more

I Flew Air Canada from Houston to Calgary, a mistake that should not be repeated. After 3 days of arrival, my checked in baggage is yet to be traced. The customer service is extremely poor. i was given the custom made response of "Madam, we haven't seen your bag, when we do, we will let you know". i sought to know how long it would take and was constantly told that they cannot place a time limit to their search. At least some proactive feedback or update on what is being done to locate my checked baggage would have helped. read more

Air Canada lost my baggage from Vancouver to Calgary. I have travelled from Philippines and had transferred from different airports but I'm surprised I will lose my baggage inside Canada. I am really disappointed from this Airline since they lost my baggage and barely contacted me regarding my lost baggage. It's been more than 2 months since I arrived in Canada and I have file a lost baggage report. After waiting for 2 months I received an email from them if I have received the lost baggage and clearly I did not. Then they asked me to provide receipts and bank statements of all the things that are inside the baggage and clearly I do not keep receipts and most things that are in that baggage are from Philippines which I do not know how to get a bank statement from. And my family is really disappointed for all the hassle they have done already because my sister had limited edition Hello Kitty collections in there that came from Japan as a gift from her. And its really hassle not only for me but to my whole family because it is not just my stuff inside that baggage and we surely can't provide receipts to everything that is in there. So I do not recommend this Airline at all. I am really disappointed because I have expected a lot from this Airline read more

Both times I've flown Air Canada I've wound up at the information desk. Once for a cancelled flight, and this last time because my United connection was late and the Air Canada flight took off without me. Their reaction? Oh well.... They booked me on two other flights, over night which made me miss out on one night of my hotel room in Vancouver, and miss the morning of a class I was supposed to teach. On top of that, when I arrived in Calgary for my 5 hour layover, they couldn't get me a hotel because it wasn't their fault the connection was late because it was United.....although they are affiliated and you can buy your tickets with the two airlines together. Flying Air Canada this holiday season has forever branded them as the worst airline I have ever flown with the most horrifyingly awful customer service I have ever encountered. After being denied boarding on my initial trip (they over booked the flight), I had to stay in Toronto overnight--almost 12 hours until my next flight. Got to my destination almost 24 hours later than I was supposed to. THEN, on the return trip, they routed me a crazy route (Toronto-Ottawa-Vancouver...wtf!) and there were delays all over the place. When I FINALLY reached Vancouver (over 21 hours from my starting time), I had no luggage. Here's where it gets really awful: I'm on DAY FOUR WITH NO LUGGAGE! Four days!!! No deodorant, no makeup, no clean clothes. It takes at least one hour to reach someone on the baggage services hotline. It took me two hours of waiting online for a chat representative to return my chat. And after all that waiting, the chat rep said that because of high chat volume he couldn't retrieve my file. 96 hours without luggage. I will NEVER ever fly Air Canada again. Save yourself! read more
