We used to patronise this venue often but with repeated problems, we turned to their Richmond Hill branch for a while. We placed a phone order for pickup due to proximity, when we arrived, they said they didn't have our order, this was not the first time they missed the order during a not-so-busy day and hour and they were not apologetic at all. This place used to be great, but it seems like as times goes on their quality and QC goes down. When they first opened they were willing to give out a very generous portion for the price they sell their bowls at. But it seems like as they have gotten a larger customer base, they Nickle and dime whatever they can get away with. I usually order from them once a week, the exact same order and take a picture every time I get it and there is a comparable difference between each of the bowls every week. This week they told me they didn't have an Uni left and if I wanted to replace it with anything. I told them that I am ok if they replaced it with an extra piece of salmon belly. I opened my bowl at home, and it looks like all they did was skip the uni and gave me the regular portion of the belly. I gave them a call and they told me that belly isn't a regular thing and they gave me it to me extra today. Well I took a look at all my pictures from the last year and it looks like they gave me an extra portion the last 30+ times, who knew /s The quality of the place is decent for the price, but I don't think their business practices align with what I think what good restaurants do (ie lying to get you off the phone) so unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to come back anymore. Decent takeout sushi joint. There's a couple tables inside so you could dine-in if you wanted. Ordered the 30 pieces sashimi tray. They have a sheet of paper at the cashier which tells you exactly what to expect in each tray. Fish was def fresh. They're not super generous cuts of fish, but I do like how they have raw shrimp and scallops in the sashimi trays. The price for 30 pieces is suppppppeeerrrr value - it's basically under $1 per piece. Helloooo value. Service is fast, not particularly friendly, but gets the job done. After going for takeout 10 times during covid, the quality differs. Sometimes it's not so great- the ___ raw fish in party platters are stringy and the rice is hard. Feels like they made it a while ago and just kept it in the fridge. The price is cheap compared to other places but always call ahead (at least 30 mins) and pickup orders hours before dinner time if you can. When I most recently picked up my order, 9 people were working there. Most were assembly line chefs. Ordered takeout and ate in on so many occasions it's not even funny! I think I'm an addict! This place is bomb with always fresh sashimi and sushi, perfect rolls and relatively cheap prices. Ai sushi has completely replaced my need for AYCE sushi and its quality is grades above AYCE sushi and even other quick sushi takeout places. I would say its quality of sushi and rolls are in line with a moderate sushi restaurant, with just the sashimi being ever so slightly below the quality of a sit-down Japanese restaurant. Only thing missing is the quick service and spontaneous order/pickup you look for in a quick service restaurant like this. For a fast sushi takeout place, you really gotta plan ahead if you wanna eat here. We always order the platters series, assorted sashimi/sushi/rolls or the rolls platters. I gotta say this place is really taking off and booming ever since we started coming here. When you call to place your order, they will tell you when's the earliest pickup time. It used to be about half an hour to 1 hour from when you call, which is acceptable. Now it'll be at least 2 hours from the time of call especially if you're trying to eat during dinnertime...ie. I call at 6pm, can't pick up til 8pm. Apparently they accept orders from the night before now too, so good luck to you if you're trying to spontaneously eat sushi within the next 30 minutes! Walking into the store was interesting... it isn't quite a restaurant. Basically, you order your food and if you choose to have it for here, you just sit and eat it. They give you disposable plates and cups for your meal in the restaurant---I guess they don't have anyone in the back kitchen washing plates because they're all busy out front rolling that sushi. There were so many sushi chefs literally just rolling sushis. I went there on a Saturday evening to pick up my sushi and the place kept receiving phone calls for sushi orders. What a bustling place!! I would want to rate this place higher but the only reason why it isn't a 4 or 5 star is because I heard one of the sushi chef sneeze LOUDLY and he did not wash his hands afterwards--gross! Also, I noticed another sushi chef touching his ear, hair, and neck without washing his hands too.... The people here need to have better training on health and food safety. I cannot believe I forgot to post review for Ai Sushi. I visited this location twice within a week, so you know how much I love them. Here are my must have items: 1. Sushi and sashimi tray, 40 pieces for $35. 2. Ai roll, 4 pieces for $5.99. I have to point out their sushi rice was excellent (comparable to other Japanese a la carte restaurants)!! The texture was chewy but not to dry. Sashimi was fresh. It was a small sushi shop but they have 3-4 sushi chefs every time I visit (compare to other small sushi shops average 2 staffs at sushi bar), so their turnover rate was fast. People order this item as a healthy choice, but smothering it in mayonnaise completely defeats the purpose. The store said they make it the way they want, regardless of the description on the menu. this is a cute local sushi restaurant that is mostly take out but there is a small seating area It was pretty busy but we were able to quickly order and get a table. You order at the counter then you can sit down. Water and utensils were brought to us shortly after. we got the 60 piece sushi for $40 for 4 people and it was pretty cheap compared to other places. the food surprisingly came quickly and had a good assortment. the sushi's they had were all super good especially the one with tempura covering it and the one with avacado at the top. the sashimi was also thick and yummy. However there was some weird tasting ones like this fish one and another sashimi that was kinda warm that we did not like. overall we all were left full and had about 6 left of ones we didn't like 3.5/5 I would definitely come again if I was coming in a group because it isn't too expensive for sushi!! pretty standard sushi with a nice environment and good service read more

This is definitely one of my favorite local sushi joints. Ai Sushi never fails to disappoint. I usually go in store to place my order and it is always packed! Sushi is fresh and made to order and the wait is never too long. I normally order the 100 piece sushi-sashimi combo (#708 for $60). This order comes in 2 separate trays with the sashimi in one tray and the sushi rolls in another. The sushi rolls contain just enough rice and not an overwhelming amount like at some places. The best sushi rolls has to be the spicy salmon which has a nice kick to it with tender salmon morsels. The sashimi tastes super fresh and melts in your mouth. Before you know it the entire tray is gone and it leaves you longing for more. Overall great consistent place for takeout sushi great for parties. They have a new location at Leslie and Elgin mills which has the same great taste and quality as this location. Definitely bring cash as they only seem to accept cash for the orders. read more

This place is busy and does a lot of take out orders so I recommend calling ahead of time. I would say the sushi is pretty good and decent quality. The fish was fresh and the rolls tasted good. You get what you pay for. There really isn't a variety of fish but the staples like salmon, white tuna, shrimp, surf clam etc. There wasn't a lot of variety in the rolls either. Most tasted like California roll with different sauces inside. I would say if you want cheap good sushi to feed a lot of people this place is great! If you want more variety in fish like herring, shrimp sashimi in the trays you should probably order elsewhere. Downside - they don't give you ginger with the sushi. read more

I called in around 3PM and the earliest they could was 7:30PM pickup. We had to wait an extra 15 minutes when we got to their restaurant. I think they need to increase their throughput because that was a bit disappointing. The sashimi was fresh, and the portions were great. The rice on each piece of sushi was kept at a minimum which is how I like it. The rolls however were quite disappointing, coming in various sizes and some rolls were filled with very cheap ingredients (given you can't select in the platters). Some positives and negatives but overall, I'll definitely order from Ai Sushi again - especially for any potluck / parties because of the awesome prices however they need to improve efficiency or it'll start turning people away. read more

On a Saturday afternoon, I was told that it would be 20 minutes (as everything was prepared fresh) but it was more like 35-40 minutes. This was kind of irritating as I was in a rush to bring this to someone's house for dinner. More about the food - the maki rolls are great and the sushi rice is flavoured well. We don't eat tuna so we were able to substitute that with salmon. The colour of the salmon was a little off, but it tasted fine. Perhaps it wasn't as fresh that time? The presentation is nice; great if you're bringing this to a gathering. The sushi platters are also very reasonably priced, but note that it's cash only. This kind of annoyed me as I'm someone that never carries cash. There are a couple of tables but everyone that's sitting down is waiting for their take out order. Grabbed take out from here for lunch today. The food here is quite good. Ordered a few platters and rolls for take out. Called in the order but wait time was quite long (waited 45 minutes). Shipment i think was running late cause they did try to call back saying they would be late but i was already on route. The fish is definatetly really fresh, as when i got there the chef just pulled a fresh fish from their cooler and was breaking it down. Price is really good for what you get. The attached pictures will show what i got for under $100. Staff was very apologetic about the weight. Dont think this would happen normally but not a good time to happen at noon during lunch service. Staff through in a complimentary seaweed salad for the wait and kept checking on me and apologizing. I was really tempted to give this 5 stars, but let's be honest folks, sometimes this place is a miss lols. One major plus about Ai Sushi is that you get many pieces for the price you are paying, and with that VIP card (10% off), why would go anywhere else? The chefs do a good job of placing all the nigiri and sashimi in a nice arrangement. My complaint about the quality is that the sashimi can be cut too thick and just makes it difficult to chew. There are also times when some of the sushi pieces are not tightly wrapped. Having said that, I still come back almost every other month. Ai Sushi is almost a 5 star! read more

Their uni is fresh, creamy and has the strong uni taste. If you love your uni, this place could be your quick fix! We usually get their sashimi platter. There's a good variety in the sashimi with my favourites being the small shrimp sashimi, scallop and the mackerel with the yellow roe.
