I had a sushi craving at 8:30 at night. I hadn't even noticed this place on 26 even after all the times I drive right by it. Yelp says its the best in the area, and open until 10. Game on. Let's give it a try. I originally was going to just get some sushi to go, since I was by myself. There wasn't a single car in the parking lot, which is always a scary sign. Then I realized that it was now 9pm. I walked in and was greeted by the chef, the hostess, and my waitress all at the same time. I decided that I wouldn't mind eating here and having some fun conversation with bored employees. I sat myself at the sushi bar. I asked for a Sapporo and was very quickly brought one. I filled out my sushi order and handed it to the chef. She told me all about her family in Korea, and her 2 kids that she has here. She did that while slicing some great looking tuna and salmon. After about 5 minutes of work, she handed me my plate full of 16 pieces of assorted sushi. I went to work. Their peppered tuna was about an 8/10. Could have used a bit more searing. The yellowtail was great, about a 9/10. Salmon was a 10/10, as was the regular tuna. Flying fish eggs were delicious. Great color and flavor, 10/10. Unagi had a bit too much sauce on it, 7/10. I also got a spider roll. The flavor was great, but the pieces were just too big. I have an enormous mouth and I am still saying they were too big. 7/10 for that. I finished around 9:40 and was brought a check and the typical sushi orange. My experience was great, and I would love to come back again soon. read more

Always Good. I've been coming to Ahoyama for several years now as I live in the area. The sushi is always fresh and very good, with a large variety of rolls, etc to choose from. The staff is very friendly and they know me, my daughter and her best friend. I ordered the Ahi Tower fresh fish roll and it was fantastic and way too much food for one who is trying to maintain his boyish figure. The waiter dropped the tray of drinks while heading to our seats at the sushi bar. Some water slashed on my daughter's friend's purse. As a result, they comped all the drinks including her wine and my sake. What a great place!!! We always think of Ahoyama when we think sushi in the mid-cities. Super sassy ladies at the counter serving up some fresh rolls and sashimi! Great for to go if you are in a hurry also. I ordered a lunch deal to go that included spicy tuna, California rolls, miso soup and a big salad with a yummy Asian dressing. Pretty much just the basics. I'm going to branch out next time and get something more creative as they have a ton of different items on the menu. It is beautiful inside too and super clean. I'd love to come for lunch on a day when I'm not working, have a drink at the sushi bar and just kick back. It is in a tiny shopping center too so don't blink or else you will miss it. My wife and I travel all over the world, and this allows us to try the finest restaurants along the way. In dissension to the assertion that the only good sushi (or more aptly, sashimi) is exclusive to coastal locales, I offer - BALDERDASH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of the ten finest sashimi restaurants we have visited, only one is in Cali, three of our top ten are in the state of Texas. We eat sushi/sashimi on average of 2-3 times per week, not to say we are experts but we are certainly "seasoned veterans". On to the task at hand - Ahoyama - In my opinion, a sushi restaurant distinguishes itself by: 1) Freshness of ingredients 2) Creativity and ability of chef to make timely recommendations - Omakase 3) Presentation 4) Staff Demeanor (Friendly, welcoming, prompt) It is with these four factors in mind that I bestow the five star rating!!!! While the fresh fish selections available at Ahoyama do not include some of my favorites (uni, jellyfish, bluefin, fugu/blowfish will not be found here) this review isn't about what they do not have - it is about what they do have!!!!! And Ahoyama has as impeccably fresh salmon, tuna, albacore and yellowtail sashimi that you will find anywhere!!!! Their rolls are a very interesting cacophony of contrasting flavors and textures - presented in a manner that is as pleasing to the eyes as it is the palate. Kim is as skilled as you will find, and as a bonus, she and ALL of the staff are genuinely friendly and respectful. On only our second visit, she made us feel as though were a part of the "family". We have been here many, many times and have never been dis-satisfied. We will continue to visit regularly and I think anyone who would like to enjoy a great dinner should also. read more

We came here after seeing pictures of the ahi tower! My favorite thing to try at sushi places is the ahi tower. We started with some salmon and snapper sushi, ahi tower, then my husband got the yakisoba and I had the butterfly kiss roll. The sushi pieces was ok. The ahi tower was great, very big. But the Yakisoba was very salty, and the butterfly kiss roll salmon was not very fresh, and you kind of need to have rice on the roll. read more

This was our first take-out experience with Ahoyama. They appear to be doing everything correctly covid-19 wise, with gloves, masks, and frequent cleaning by the staff and social distancing by the customers. Our order was packaged and placed on a table away from everyone. My only issue was payment, which I would have preferred to be electronic, but in this case was by physical card picked up and returned by a waitress, a possible point of contamination. Food wise, everything was excellent, just as it always was, pre-pandemic, when we ate our food inside the restaurant. Ahoyama has some of the best sushi and sashimi in the area, I highly recommend! We love ahoyama! Our best friend's dad lives right by here so he found this place and took us. We fell in love and have been coming from the time they still had hibachi tables where they cooked that in front of you. Those are gone because their main focus is sushi and man is it yummy. Ahoyama is one of my favorite sushi restaurants to go to. I would eat here more often if I lived closer to it. They offer good quality fish for an affordable price. They also give you a yummy starter cucumber salad on the house and then some fruit to end your meal. We usually try to order a new roll to try each time in addition to our two favorites, the butterfly kiss roll and crispy tuna roll. We have never tried their rice entrees or noodle dishes, so not sure about those items but the sushi is great. The staff is always so friendly too. Expect some wait if you're arriving during peak time, i.e. Friday dinner, but longest we've ever waited was 20 minutes or so. Went in today for a late lunch with a friend and I'm pretty impressed. For some reason the outside didn't really had me going but that changed once I saw the menu. I like the fact that they do have pictures of the different type of sushi rolls they have so that helps out a lot. We both decided to get a be to box and it came with so much food we couldn't finish our boxes. They even asked us if things were okay because we didn't finish our food. It had about 6 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi, 4 pieces of a California roll, 2 pieces of shrimp tempura and a sweet potato tempura. Also came with a miso soup and a salad. I don't know what kind of dressing they have on that salad but it was addicting!!! The shrimp tempura was delicious, came out so crispy and light on the the batter. We shared some shumai which also wee delightful Couple of things that would help ahoyama go from really good to exceptional - the dumpling sauce was off. I wish they used the standard soy/ginger/sesame oil mix. The dumplings themselves were awesome - I had the seafood ramen, which was their only ramen option. This is my go to sushi place!! I've actually been here several times, just now getting around to do a review. First things first..the menu, yes everyone is right..its awesome!! They have a picture next to everything which makes ordering a snap. They have great a selection of rolls, including no rice rolls which are great for the low carbers out there. Lots of sushi and sashimi, bento boxes, and even hibachi and other traditional cooked meals. I've tried several of their dishes and have never been disappointed. Their presentation is very impressive as well. Fish is fresh and well prepared and their homemade sauces are yummy! One of my absolute favorite things here is the seaweed salad..I know its simple but i'm obsessed!! Wish they had free refills on that. At the end of ur meal, they bring a sliced cantaloupe which us a nice touch. Price is fair for what u get and the service is always top notch and quick. This is a great place to bring a small group to chit chat over a nice meal..they play contemporary music and have nice dim lighting. My best friend and I came here around 830pm on a Thursday night because we were craving sashimi. The place was nice and quiet, maybe because it's late. We were greeted by them and was seated immediately. We always get salmon sashimi wherever we go. I saw the White Tuna Sashimi with Garlic Ponzu and wanted to try it. We ordered salmon sashimi, white tuna sashimi with garlic ponzu, Volcano, and Caribbean roll. Presentation was nice! They bought out regular white tuna sashimi, but that's okay! Not one to complain because it was still good~ The Caribbean Roll had the chili paste on it which I like, but I usually eat those rice paper rolls with ponzu sauce and it was my fault, but putting ponzu sauce made it fall apart. Thus, leading me to use a fork for once T__T Still tasted yummy. Service was great, no overbearing. Just enough, they were sweet. Food was good. Pretty good for being tucked away in the suburbs. The service here is not that great, but since the food was good, I didnt care. The Carribean Roll was a real treat. It had a light, fresh, and fruity flavor encapsulating the meat. I also ordered two pieces of sashami. THe octopus was too chewy. It was fresh alright, but damn was it rubbery. The ahi tuna sashami was more to my likely. Robust but soft. I tried some of my co-worker's Volcano Roll. Absolutely amazing. My go to sushi spot and I live 30 mins away. Kim is there everyday and delivers some of the best sushi I've ever had.

I had high expectations coming in and I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately we left disappointed. Maybe we ordered the wrong things from their menu? The service was great and the restaurant was clean. There was just too much sauce on the rolls which made it extremely salty for us. Maybe I will try a more traditional nigiri next time? I have never had a bad meal here. I've gotten sushi for lunch or dinner at least twice a month here for a few years and become somewhat of a regular. Kim always has a suggestion for me if I'm feeling indecisive. Favorites/regulars are: crispy tuna roll, ahi tower, las vegas roll, alaskan, and rainbow. I always come here because it's so close to where I live. The food is always on point but service may be slow. (Thus, 4-stars.) Doesn't mean service is bad, because everyone there is very sweet. I try to avoid going here when its really busy (Tuesdays & weekends).
