I used to live in Japan for 15 years and I must say that this is probably the worst stateside Ramen I have ever eaten. The noodles are not hard and sticky like you would expect from authentic Ramen. Instead, the noodles are so soggy and slippery like they are pasta noodles. If you've never had Ramen in Japan, or even Hawaii, you will not like this brand of noodles at all. But for those who don't know any better, I guess you can still enjoy it. read more

I was in the area and was craving ramen. I saw this place and even thought wasn't highly rated. I was gonna try anyway. I knew it was bad new when I only see one vehicle outside in the parking lot. The owner/waitress put the menu down on the table and ask in a rushing tune "are you ready?". It was only me and another customer in the restaurant and didn't see why she needed to rush me. I ignored it and order my meal. I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen. Now, I really don't like giving any restaurant a low rating. My ramen came and it was no care to it at all. The broth was tasteless. You can tell someone make the broth right before the restaurant open. Only reason i give it two stars was because the noodles was nice and chewy. The meat was cold. They could have put it in the microwave. No care what so ever with my bowl of ramen. Restaurant has orange paint inside. Problem is that, it's very easy to see food spec left behind on the wall. I can see they don't really wipe down the walls. If you're paying by CC do check the charge. The owner added a $1 more without saying anything. I asked her and she said it's for the cc charge. We almost left when we drove up and saw the outside of the restaurant. I believe it was previously a Taco Bell. Still kind of looks like the closed down Taco Bell if not for the sign with the new name. Green areas overgrown and generally not taken care of on the exterior. But we did not let that stop us from giving it a try. When we walked in there was an overwhelming smell of bleach. Which makes sense because there was a worker mopping half of the dining room with a mop and bucket full of water and bleach. So I can definitely confirm it seemed clean inside. We thought this meant that they might not be open yet. However, it was 11:30am and they opened at 11:00 am. The person mopping promptly dropped the mop and came over to greet us and take our order. She was very nice and service was prompt and efficient. We were the only ones in the place the whole time we were there. We ordered a couple of chicken egg rolls first. They tasted good but were a little overdone and crunchy. We ordered the spicy miso ramen. When it came out it looked pretty good. However, I have to agree with a couple of other reviewers, it literally had zero flavor. I honestly couldn't even tell it was spicy. The noodles were white and thick and unlike any ramen noodles I have had before. I think they could probably pass for spaghetti noodles if we had been at an Italian restaurant. Restaurant is clean and the owner is very nice and prompt. It is a Japanese/Chinese fusion restaurant. We ordered steamed pork dumplings (made in house) and they were quite good! My spicy miso ramen was a little salty. The broth wasn't as savory. The dense miso was overcompensating for the broth. The pork, chashu, was flavorful. The eggs, ajitsuke tamago, was also a little salty. It is more cooked than the typical yolk-y type but I didn't mind. My cousins got the spicy tonkotsu ramen and really liked it. The ramen portions are big with lots of noodles. I liked this type of noodles, chewy with texture. Takoyaki was decent. It didn't have most toppings you would normally have. It only had mayonnaise for toppings- hence, missing the bonito flakes, takoyaki sauce, and pickled red ginger. Overall, Food-wise, it would be a 3.0 for me. I had a very enjoyable experience at Ramen Joy. To start this is Chinese Ramen vs Japanese or even Thai Ramen. Each variation is different, from the broth to the noodles. With that stated Ramen Joy hits the spot for your Ramen fix. The staff here are very attentive and easily answers any questions about the menu. This restaurant also has other Chinese dishes that I suggest you try. The dumplings here are homemade and quite amazing. We also ordered the fried chicken, which was also super good. Same goes for the crab Rangoon. Which I have to say ranks up in the top three that I have ever had. For the Ramen, its slightly different from Japanese Ramen that you can get in Irving, Fort Worth or Old Denton. But it is just as good. I went with the number one: Tonkotsu Ramen. Which had a tasty broth , great noodles and nice pork. I added a little spice to make it just right. My wife had the curry beef ramen that was also very tasty. Overall we had a great time here, and a fulfilling meal that was reasonably priced. I recommend Ramon joy to anyone who want some yummy noodles to satisfy your Ramen cravings. read more

weird location being in the old taco bell that's in a weird spot. Don't let this deter you! Ramen was super good. Got the #1, and an order of pan fried dumplings. I was very pleased with the broth - very tasty - and the size of the bowl and the contents. :) It was more than enough. I didn't need the dumplings, but I was overzealous. I ended up taking most of the dumplings home. :D can't wait to eat them later. The dumplings were very large and flavorful. I wanted to see if they were using the frozen ones that other places have tried to pan off as homemade before. These weren't frozen (I don't believe!) Restaurant is super clean, staff is very friendly and nice. I did enjoy this little touch: I used non-wooden disposable chopsticks. we used REAL chopsticks. I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen and crab dragons with a water. I kid you not, before 5 minutes were up by food comes right on out. It took me off hybsurprise, considering that coming all these items would at least take a few more minutes than five. As I look at the ramen sitting sadly in front of me, the lake of fat th as t was layered on top seemed a little excessive. The pork did not look recently cooked, and tasted as if it was cooked a long while ago. The noodles do not seem home made. The shape and taste were just bland. The broth was watery with no flavor. The boiled egg was overcooked and excessive hard. The crab rangoon were not hot. They were luke warm at best. This signified tone that these were just sitting around. There was no remnant of it being fried recently either. No tiny droplets of oil, no soaking of my napkin making it translucent. For the price of all these items, I would spend the extra couple of dollars and eat some Hanabi. read more

Do not Recommend the Food was not good. Ramen was very poorly made. Noodles were very chewy, broth was bland, and it had boiled eggs in it that were still cold in the middle from being refrigerated. We also got steamed pork dumplings and they had this pinkish gel leaking out of the bottom very questionable. The lady that took our order was very nice which was the only positive thing I can say. NOOOOOO For the love of all things sacred and holy NOOOOOOOOOO More Chinese than Japanese. They also took the cheap route with everything. Read: Bad veggies, seafood, ingredients, soup stock... . Bad ingredients = bad dish. The prices do not reflect the cut corners. You can get legit ramen (ie., use miso base, udon noodles, etc) for the same price basically, um, at any other ramen joint. Ok first off this ramen joint is more Chinese oriented not Japanese. The first thing I ordered was the tonkotsu ramen the pork broth was ok good not amazing but good. The ramen isn't like those instant ramen thank god and that was ok too. Really wanted the boiled egg to be soft boiled but I'm pretty sure it's only hard boiled here. The tonkotsu pork meat was ok pretty meaty it had a chew to it more than a fall apart so idk if y'all like that. So over all the ramen was just good not amazing but acceptable. The second thing I ordered was the hand made dumplings and I got the pork dumplings. Was really impressed that they were hand made and had a good size to them pretty happy about that. Oh and o got them steamed not pan fried bc steamed is the way to go lol. Probably comeback and get them pan fried next time. Oh there's no dipping sauce so ask for a mini bowl for sauce and the condiments on the table is for like a dim sum style sauce so remember this one table spoon each of soy sauce, Chinese vinegar, and a spoken full of chili oil. Over all get the hand made dumplings! My service at this place was great not a problem always being checked on and getting my drink refilled. (A+) thanks to the white man lol came in on his first day here. Only reason for my three star was it's a pretty good hole in the wall restaurant and do not have high expectations of this place. Unfortunately I probably will not be coming back at all. Service was okay. Servers were nice but didn't seem attentive. I had to ask for silverware twice. The menu was not very descriptive, everything was clumped together and the green font made it hard to read. I ordered the bacon ramen cause it sounded interesting. Also at the top of menu is stated the basic toppings including chasu, soft boiled eggs, and some garnish. (I don't remember exactly what else I was more focused on the chasu and soft boiled egg.) So I asked the waiter if all that will be included and she answered yes. Sadly my bacon ramen came out without the chasu and I asked about it and all our server say was sorry it's not included but I can get it for you as a side. No big deal. Presentation of the food was okay, but did not make up for the lack of flavor. This broth was so bland, I honestly thought it was the same water they cooked the noodles in and they just added salt. I had to add more soy sauce and chili oil to give it some flavor. Also the eggs are not soft boiled they're hard boiled. No flavor there either. 3 bites in I notice a hair in my bacon. Which just added to the disappointment. I told the server and she brought it back to the kitchen to show them. 5 minutes later the owner comes up to our table and just says sorry we won't make you pay for it. And that's it. Didn't offer to replace my ramen with another bowl or anything. You'd think they'd try harder to make a better impression on their second day open. Ramen Joy is a cute, clean, ramen house that has something for everyone. They have a long list of Ramen option​ but they also have fried rice, low mein, udon noodles, orange chicken and much more. The building Ramen Joy is in is an old Taco bell that they have converted to a Ramon house, the outside is nothing special but don't let that fool you, the inside is very cute and clean and even has somewhat of a modern feel. When we entered there were a number of tables of families and of friends (always a good sign). We were immediately greeted by an extremely sweet older woman who was amazing, she was so personal and kind. Infact the whole meal we had two different waiters helping in a "teamwork" style and they were both absolutely wonderful. Food review: We started with edamame- cooked perfectly, came out first, good amount. Dinner-Beef Ramen for me and spicy beef ramen for the hubs. The noodles had a great flavor, very nicely done, the meso broth was very nice, it was light but filling, the beef was extremely tender and had a pretty marbling on it. The egg says soft boiled on the menu but it's more of a hard boiled, I really enjoyed it, the flavor was deep in the egg and it even had a nice flavor yoke. We both really enjoyed our meals and plan to come back. Before deciding on trying Ramen Joy out I did read the reviews on here but I knew they only recently opened, I wanted to give them a chance since I like to give places the bennifit of the doubt especially when it's a new business. I would like to address the previous reviews by saying I think they have gotten the new restaurant hick ups out and I think that unfortunately it looks like the previous reviews were during that tine. For a local, in the midcities Ramon place they are a great option. Yes, you can go to Dallas and find more options but sometimes a 30 min drive just isn't going to happen, especially for families with kids and this is the answer to the need in this area. *PS, they give adorable little plastic soup spoons for kids. read more

It's Chinese ramen.... From my food experience in the dfw Chinese ramen is more bland and flavor is light compared to Japanese or Korean ramen. We had the creamy miso ramen. When we received the bowl it looked appetizing. 1 boiled egg and 3 pieces of sliced pork. I usually taste the soup before adding extra spice. Once me and my friend tasted it we both said it's so bland! Pork was super chewy and egg was over cooked. I Iove food especially Asian food and I never waste food but we didn't even finish our ramen. We asked the waiter for more spice or something to add more flavor to the broth he brought us a more red broth. Which was better than what we initially ordered but still my Mee Mamma packaged ramen I buy at the Asian market is 10xs better than what we were served. Now to the soup dumplings. It was better than the ramen and better than monkey king noodles. (I'm not a fan of monkey king either) they are handmade but dough is too thick. Lacks flavor I kept having to dip everything in vinegar and soy sauce and the chili sauce wasn't spicy. Ahhhh so disappointed!!!! I was hoping it was good since it's close to home! So sad..... Only gave 2 stars cus the waitor was nice. As for the owner she needs to smile if she wants people to come back. Omg I know Asian people don't smile but at least fake it for your business. I have been here twice and I really enjoy the tonkatsu ramen. My sis had the miso ramen and she said she enjoyed that, but like myself enjoy the tonkatsu ramen. I wouldn't say it's the best ramen I've ever had, but it is very yummy. Great broth and quality ingredients used in their dishes. We also enjoy the crab ragoons.
