Ahoyama has been a staple for me for easily 20 years. They have my favorite salmon skin rolls, hands down. Even my sister has said she isn't a fan normally of those; but here she'll get them every time! This is a place that I have driven by for over a decade without noticing...My Bad! I was looking for a table top Hibachi, which they do not have. I ordered Hibachi anyway. The Steak Tenderloin and Chicken was fantastic. The fried rice was unique and a new fav of mine. We also ordered a Sashimi dinner which was excellent. Both meals came with Miso Soup and salad. Awesome sushi in the DFW area. Visited on a Sunday evening and was promptly seated. I ordered the Sushi Ayo combo which came with soup, salad, 8 piece chef's choice sushi, and either a California roll or spicy tuna roll. I opted for the spicy tuna roll. The fish was delicious and very well portioned. My friends ordered a special roll and teriyaki salmon and also enjoyed. Great meal and I would definitely return if I was in the area. read more

We finally made it into Ahoyama and our large party of seven was treated well and feasted on great sashimi, creative rolls and shrimp tempura. Beer was cold and our server was friendly and fast. This will save us a longer drive to our usual standbys and we can't wait to return. Since they're right around the corner, we had to check it out. The service was excellent. Even when ordering takeout, the hostess offered water while I waited. We ordered the sushi & sashimi combo plus a Rattle Snake roll. Most of the sashimi were good; however, the slices were cut on the smaller side and the tuna was a bit fishy. The roll was excellent, completely satisfied my eel craving. Overall a pretty nice sushi spot, good for quick, weeknight sushi cravings! read more

Our family come and eat dinner tonight. The food is not so bad but the Nepali waitress is very bad behavior.

I am always a huge fan of sushi restaurants with any riceless rolls, let alone a selection. The ahoyama and butterfly rolls were very tasty but the plating left a little to be desired. They were all very uneven and the ayohama came rather messy and fell apart more once I touched it. The price point would have been average for the quality if there was a little more care taken to presentation. Staff was very attentive and knew just when to stop by. The music choice was an eclectic early 2000s playlist that had me laughing and in a fun mood. read more

Quite simply the best sushi in the area. We've been regulars here for 4+ years, making at least a couple trips a month. Service is always impeccable, never a bad experience. Tables are well spaced with a sprawling sushi bar, often playing Korean music over the speakers and action movies on the TV above the sushi bar. Most evenings it's easy to be seated, but be aware that $1 Sake night on Tuesday will get quite busy. We always get the Salmon Heaven, Ahoyama roll, clear soup, and fried rice, with other dishes making guest appearances. It's not easy to find a consistently good sushi restaurant, we're glad to have one nearby. read more

First time at Ahoyama and I like the interior design with some outdoor seating options and easy dedicated parking lot. Lighting is nice and they have a full sake menu, noise level is low and I'm pretty sure we listed to 1/2 the Backstreet Boys CD while dining so it's a calm environment. Service is swift. For the food the Miso Soup is pleasant and only $1.50, i'll probably try the edamame over the soup if I return. The Yaki Soba was sugar and cinnamon sweet- we couldn't eat it. You can taste sugar but the beef had another flavor all together and was chewy. We've been to several Japanese restaurants in the US and Japan, never ever have I ever had sweet Yaki- terrible do not recommend. Ok so the rolls: The Baja Fresh roll was ok but over all didn't work and and I wouldn't call imitation crab "fresh". I liked the combo of mango and jalapeño but when mixed with tomato and red onion it was like a crabmeat roll in wanna be Tex-Mex chunky mango salsa. Pretty for a picture but I wouldn't recommend for sushi. The Hawaiian Roll was the best of the bunch. Fish was nice and the crunch onion added texture. There was definitely a light sauce added so I didn't have the desire to dip in soy or add anything. Be advised the inside of the roll is not a piece of tuna but minced ground tuna- that's not what the menu says so if you don't like negitoro texture this won't be for you. The Spicy Crunch Roll was good and served warm which can throw some people off. It wasn't spicy but the flavors and crunch were fine. Food is 3 stars, but the atmosphere, plating, cleanliness and attentive service earns another star. read more

Wow this has to be my number one sushi spot now. The flavors here are done so well. It's worth the wait. The crunchy albacore tuna is a must. My first bite was nothing crazy. But the second third fourth and on were bursting with flavors. Adding the lemon slices enhances all the flavors. It's amazing! Our sushi came out shortly after. I liked all of the rolls we got which were crispy tuna roll, spider roll, and spicy crunch roll. I would get them again! It's been too long since I've been here, got stuck on some other Japanese restaurants...found out tonight that it's my loss. Take away on 4 rolls, New Ninja, Hawaiian, Wasabi and salmon skin roll. The later being run of the mill but it was tasty and inexpensive. Wife wanted a cooked roll so got her the New Ninja, this giant had a huge portion of soft shell crab with large fresh slices of avocado on top, delish! I at the Hawaiian and Wasabi both from the fresh fish speciality roll section. Took a few seconds and a small amount of soy to get acclimated to the Wasabi but, wow, it was amazing with a chunks of salmon and tuna wrapped in soy paper with sticky rice on the outside. Their menu is deep, I'm sure their sashimi is spot on...next time I'm grabbing a table. I inhaled my rolls but managed to take a pic of the soft shell crab with most of it intact. read more

Summary: Get the sushi. I've been wanting to try Ahoyama, as I come to Sprouts almost weekly and see it there every time. I finally tried it on a sleepy weekday evening, and enjoyed my visit for the most part. I might give them more like 3.5 stars, but I can't do that on Yelp. So, round up. I got miso soup to start, which was ok, nothing special. It was nice and warm though on a fairly cold evening. For my meal, I got some basic chicken with noodles and a sushi roll with tuna and spicy sauce. The sushi was delicious (my apologies, I cannot remember what it was called) and generously portioned, but the noodles were oily and bland. The service was also so-so, it seemed like my waitress wasn't too interested in helping me. She may have been having an off night, who knows, so I'm not rating on that, just the food really. So, I would come back for sushi, but I could not bring my husband (who doesn't eat any type of seafood) since the other types of dishes seem a little lackluster. Online currently shows they are temporarily closed, so I'm not sure if they will ever reopen or not. read more

There's just something about a phenomenal California roll that brings you joy The service is fine, but can be slow so plan accordingly for lunch or dinner. Everything we had last night was delicious. Stuffed mushroom appetizer, rainbow roll, cowboy roll, ebi ebi roll, bulgobi chicken dinner, salad n miso soup. Staff and cooks wore masks -I couldn't be happier and felt safe eating here. We deeply appreciate the Covid safety standards observed by staff and management here. I wasn't too sure about how "spicy" the rainbow roll was so they gave the sauce in the side and the spices mayonnaise was perfect! Not too spicy at all. Love it! We will be back! read more

Service is abysmal. They can't handle a Friday night. We were seated at 6:05 and we walked out at 6:45. They took our drink order and never came back to our table. Three servers with 0 organization. We've come here for years and honestly the food is great but tonight I'm writing this hoping the management team sees this review and gets the service addressed. I had been going here for years. I brought two friends here after a 5-year hiatus and am not going back. We were genuinely surprised at how surly our waitress was (she had orange bleached hair). Not sure what the problem was, she took a while to acknowledge us at the door and asked it we wanted to-go. She said, without eye contact, "What do you want." One of us asked for a drink menu, but she said "We only have Sake, and only Tuesdays." Then we saw her being beers to the other tables. I thought maybe she was having a bad day, but bizarrely did a Jekyll and Hyde routine with the table next to us. She brought three containers of wasabi and ginger, considered it, then took one away from us. I ended up walking up to her and asking for the third container. She dramatically put it on our table with her fingertips like we were dirty or something. One of us is Korean (moved here just a few years ago) and said "They're speaking in Korean back there..." and was hesitant to translate to us. I wanted to pay for my green tea and leave. Orange Hair started getting loud and belligerent, demanding to know what was wrong before just throwing her hands up, "Fine! Get out! This has to be one of my favorite little places to go to. First and foremost they have their version of a chirashi bowl (minus the rice). But it's the Sashimi Yama. The amount of sashimi you get in this order for the price you pay is exceptional. It's like a challenge to see if you can finish it without walking out of there feeling stuffed. And that's without the rice. The first thing I'm going to recommend is the stuffed mushroom. OMG it is wonderful. Just make sure no one in your party has a crab allergy. Any of the starters especially the sashimi, are all terrific. I have tried virtually everything on the menu at this points If you have non-sushi eaters in your group not to worry. They have multiple dishes for people who don't eat sushi. There are fried rice dishes, hibachi dishes there's even a New Texas roll with cooked shrimp. The one thing I will say is if you're going here for the hibachi experience, they don't actually have a hibachi. That however does not diminish from your food. This place is definitely a favorite and one I have been back to many times. And when I plan to go back to many more times. If you haven't been you should definitely try it. read more

After leaving another sushi place because it smelled like sewage, we arrived here worried if this place was going to be a let down as well. The food took a while, and most of the items on the menu seemed like different variations of California rolls, but let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised! Especially for Texas! The fish looked fresh, and the rolls were all absolutely delicious! Before trying them I was going to just take off these crinkly ponzu onions, but when I tasted them, they were AMAZING!
