We were informed by our insurance agent that THE ROOFING COMPANY Installed several pipes INCORRECTLY On our roof, which is the reason for the leaking! Steve Sheppard has refused to send anyone out to my house to look at the supposed leaking because he knows that his company is responsible! He tried to blame it on other things without even coming to see the roof and he ended up yelling and hanging up the phone and telling me to call another company. BEWARE, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT COME TO THIS ROOF COMPANY. THEY WILL INSTALL IT INCORRECTLY IN YOUR ROOF WILL BE LEAKING! THEN HE WILL REFUSE TO HABE ANYONE COME OUT TO FIX IT. SCAM!!!!! Before we could install solar panels, we had to change out our 34-year-old roof. AGL Roofing did a nice job at my brother's house, so I gave owner Steve Shepard a call. He definitely knew what he was talking about, letting me know how it was important to have the posts for the panels installed first (instead of punching through the new roof), talked about the quality of different roofing material, and the importance of a roof fan. On top of it, he offered the best price! It was supposed to be a three (3) day job. All of the old roof was removed on a Monday, all of the new roof was done by Tuesday. Yes, they finished a day early! Ivan and his crew were efficient and thorough. They even spray painted all of the vents to match the color of the roof! Steve also coordinated nicely with our solar company, making sure we had the right kind of posts installed in a timely manner. He even had the solar company choose an alternate post for the panels to ensure we wouldn't deal with any leaking. Of course, I'll know in 10 years or so if the roof is reliable over time, but my brother's house looks good and so does our house. My bet is we'll be just fine. I had my roof done in January of 2018, right after New Year. I had 3 quotes from Roofing Companies. In the end, I went with Steve of AGL Roof. There was not much of interaction with him except on phones, texts & emails. He drove by the house so he could give me an estimate. Dropped off his estimate with samples of color roofing materials while nobody was home. His quote included jobs that they did within a mile radius from me. Emailed me a contract to sign if I decides to go with him. I signed the contract, scanned & emailed it back to him. We agreed on the start date & that was it. It was simple & efficient. Unfortunately my roof was 32 years old so they encouraged me to spend the money on a new roof and said AGL was the best company they know for shingle roofs in the South Bay. AGL coincidentally replaced the roof on my last townhome in Redondo so I felt comfortable reaching out to them. Steve Shepard was very responsive, gave me a fair estimate, then scheduled the roof installation about a month later. While he said it would take three days, his workers actually completed it in two days and the final bill ended up being only $200 more than the estimate! I met Steve 7 years ago for a reroofing estimate. At the time he told me that our roof would be okay for a few more years as long as we put a metal cap on the vent. I liked his honesty, so kept his information. This time we noticed a leak from the series of heavy rains so it was time for us. Since Steve had our roof footage already, getting a re-quote was a breeze. I was getting quotes for a new roof and this company was the easiest to work with. No sales pitch, not extras, no scare tactics. When they contacted me, I was told that I do not need to be home and that the quote would be mailed to me. When I received it it was the lowest that I had found so far. I ran it past my contractor friend and he agreed that it looked good. When we dropped off the signed agreement they upgraded my roof tiles for free as well. When they came to tear down the roof they were here for maybe 2 hours start to finish (1300sq ft roof). Materials were dropped off in the afternoon, and they came the next day to install the roof. It was done in 2 days! Very reasonable, easy to work with, super clean and they do not work with subcontractors. They are employees. I highly recommend them!!!! My roof is beautiful! read more

Steve (owner) was super pushy with massive salesman type energy with an aggressive pitch from the start by trashing what other roofers do wrong, showing examples of poor worksmanship & saying his method is the best. But upon going over which materials, trim, and labor he uses, it's literally the same standard with other roofers that I worked with in the past (I own rental homes and have done multiple roofs & his explanation & final quote of materials were the same as other roofers). I am very pleased with my experience with AGL Roofing. Steve was straightforward gave me a folder with information I needed to know about his company and other jobs he had done. After he came out and inspected our roof we had a very professionally done written estimate, he even recommended that we get other quotes before deciding. I decided to hire his company and I have no regrets. The work was done in two days, his quote was fair, there were a few extra cost do to the condition some of the boards but he had already told me to expect that. Before they did the repairs the office called and explained what was need they gave me an estimate and waited for me to approve the additional work and costs. I chose AGL Roofing over 6 other bids. Steve's bid was in the middle but after comparing the bids and I felt I was getting the best roof with the most competitive pricing for facia, ship lap and 6x1s. My roof was in pretty bad shape due to a shoddy reroof done over 30 years ago (I actually got on my roof with Steve to see how bad it was). My old roof had Maxitile on it (a fake Spanish tile where the company that produced it is out of business) and I decided to replace it with a GAF reflective shingle. Steve's crew replaced all facia, the entire perimeter of shiplap, multiple boards, rafter tails and repaired termite and dry rot in the peaks. My roof looks great and is weather tight and I'm just waiting for the next big rain storm to truly test it out. Steve had walked me through the process, provided me with brochures, samples and pages of references, and answered my questions. I contacted a few of Steve's customers and each one said that they were extremely satisfied with AGL roofing and highly recommended Steve. The bid was very clear and concise. I'm really sad that they're not servicing the Cypress area as they were the most comprehensive and detail oriented in explaining how they describe the roofing process. I ended up at AGL because I'd done tons of roofing research, and had a bunch of quotes that either seemed outrageous or the guy was a little sketchy. I gave up and asked my neighbors (via the Nextdoor app) and a bunch of them recommended Steve. He's not the cheapest, but he's also super fairly priced. He doesn't include the cost of replacing the wood in the quote, but he's very up front about what costs might come about from damaged wood, and it also means that you/homeowner aren't going to get overcharged for boards that didn't need replacing. After I met with Steve for my quote it was super easy to pick him. He's fair and knowledgeable and most importantly (to me anyway) I trusted him to have his guys be alone with my house all day. It was a super smart choice. He walked the roof with me every day they were there so I could see for my micromanagey self what I was paying for. He made me drive around to actually look at roof colors (vs guessing what a whole roof would look like based on a sample) and I'm so glad I did. The color I would have chosen did not look how I wanted it to in real life and I ended up with a color I never would have picked out of the book but is PERFECT. Just get a quote. Steve the owner is one of those rare contractors that educates and teaches prospective clients. Not only did he inform us about the various products that go into a new roof, but also educated us about the contracting business in general and what to watch for, so we don't get taken advantage of. His team does great work, replacing the old-fashioned scalloped front fascia board with a cleaner looking straight fascia. He also added additional dormer vents. Pricing was reasonable, but more importantly, the roof was done right. i live in Old Torrance and wanted a Roofer that would have experience with Craftsman homes. I received 3 quotes and AGL was in the middle. With AGL better materials are included in the quote - Do your detailed comparisons: you get what you pay for. Steve Shepard, the owner came out to give the quote, he studied the outside then went atop for measurements. I asked my garage be included in the quote and he added it as an option. I wasn't pressured and he suggested I look at other houses in the area his crew completed. The AGL crew was a tight and well run unit, experience and talented members working with a grunt or two to assist. Steve would check on them often and I would be there as well because I needed to learn what was being done and offer up any concerns that needed to be addressed. As a homeowner it is your job to trust but verify so I was onsite 90% of the time. One concern was the facia corners because on a Craftsman home they are mitered together and the facia is cut in sharp angles, while modern homes are made with simple boxed corners. See the pictures of the great job they did on the corners. Concern two was damaging the roof during the stripping down of the old one but the AGL crew did a fine job and they didn't destroy any pieces therefore saving me repairs costs. They also did a fine job cleaning up the area around my house. The stripping off of the old roof can uncover some unknown damage and this will mostly be around the vents and areas where bugs can enter. The AGL crew showed me the damaged areas, and did a great job repairing only what was necessary. See my pictures. AGL Roof installed the roof on my home 7 years ago and already there are water leaks. If you are considering going with this company, beware that the warranty for labor expires after 5 years. Also, if you sell your home or purchase it from someone who had their roof installed with AGL, see if you can do a warranty transfer. I recently purchased my home and after the rainstorms this year, called AGL because we had a leak and they are the company that installed the roof for my sellers 7 years ago. The guys who came to check out the leak were super nice, but Steve concluded that because the previous owners had installed solar panels, the warranty was now void (in addition to it being past the 5 year mark). When my realtor complained to him that he wasn't standing by his work, he came out to my house to take a look, but said his company would still not fix the cricket on my roof where the water leak was happening. In addition to all this, Steve was trashing other roofing companies for their use of drones and was rude to my mom. Just a bad experience all around. read more

If you are looking for an honest person that truly looks out for your best interest then you have found it with AGL Roofing My home insurance requested that I explore roof repairs and/or replacement of the roof based on some faulty pictures. I proceeded to get roof estimates across a number of roofing companies. Many of them didn't bother to really evaluate the roof and provided detailed estimates on how to replace my roof. Steve was a breathe of fresh air since he really took the time to evaluate the roof, inspect any gaps, and even call the city department to find out prior information about our roof. He spent a good hour with me walking through his assessment. His final assessment was that I didn't need to do any work and my roof had a long life ahead. He proceeded to offer advice on how to engage with the insurance company to help with my situation. Having just bought the house, this was a great relief since our funds were already depleted . We have dealt with our fair share of bad contractors and money hungry people that wanted to earn the buck. It's really hard to find a HONEST person that you can really TRUST. I noticed some water damage to my ceiling is a few places. I checked some local reviews and AGL by far had the best reviews, but I called a total of four companies anyway for an estimate. Not only did AGL come in with the lowest bid, but I immediately felt like I was asking a close brother for an estimate, not a company. This was important when investing on re-doing an entire roof! The always showed up on time and always cleaned up after themselves EVERYDAY of a four day job (my house is around 3600 square feet). The owner came by a few times to ensure all was going as planned and even sent me photos! We had a major rain day when the job around 80% done and NO LEAK anywhere! When the last day came and they were ready to leave, you'd never even know they were there they cleaned up so well! I was so pleased with their work, I wished that I had several homes for them to do, but alas, we are not wealthy and I only have the one home. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend these guys. This review is long overdue my apologies to Steve and the AGL Roof Company crew. Before finding Steve and AGL I honestly called close to 10 companies. Most of them did not travel outside of their respected areas so that narrowed my search to the few I called and met with. The first company to come out was AGL and I'll be honest, when I opened my front door to meet Steve I raised an eyebrow. The reason I did that was that he showed up for our appointment wearing shorts and his AGL tank top. I initially thought it was unprofessional for someone to show up to a meeting dressed that way so it was a bit a red flag for me. I could not have been anymore incorrect with my assessment of Steve (my apologies Steve). Steve came in to hour home, spent 90 minutes with us and took us to school! He had a folder with information from the State of California on how we can research his company or any other. He instructed us on how to obtain information on companies insurance, license and complaints. He then provided us with an extensive list of his past customers and told us to drive around to check out his work. We did just that and ended up speaking with one of the homeowners and he had nothing but praise for AGL. He also shared his company's mission statement with us, as well as detailed information and samples of the products he uses. He was very informative with facts not opinions. He told us up front that his initial quote might change depending on the amount of damaged wood that would need to be replaced. So Steve leaves and I meet with two other companies. The first company (I shall leave nameless) meet with me and it took him a grand total of 20 minutes to go up on my roof, take pics and give me his sales pitch. His was twice the amount of AGL's quote with none of the information I received from AGL. He provided a single sample of "what my shingle would look like" not the actual shingle. Steve had pointed out that since my Harbor City home is part of Los Angeles City (I already knew this) my roof would have to be installed with specific code requirements for the City of LA. The company I was speaking to this time argued with me saying I was LA County not LA City. I was like really? You don't think I know where I live? That was pretty much in then he left. The next guy (again nameless) was a little more detailed with information and samples but was astronomically expensive and that was his baseline before any damaged wood being replaced. Needless to say, I went with Steve and AGL and they were great! On the first day they had my roof removed, replaced damage wood and had half of the garage re-shingled. On the second day, they finished up around 4pm, cleaned up and my property was clean. It was like they were never there. Steve kept us informed every step of the way. I never had to wait long to hear from him and was always courteous, non-aggressive and explained everything clearly so that we were comfortable. Long story short... don't cheat yourself and judge this book by his cover. IT'S A GOOOOOOD BOOK! LOL Steve is one those rare good business people that isn't out to rob you. You just have to talk to Steve for a few minutes and you know you have a true professional. Looking at most of the reviews there must be a reason for so many 5 star comments. My roof leaked in several places. The first hour they were there they knew where the leaks were. I had a patio cover that the previous owner added to the house but the company that did it put up no flashing. Subsequently every time it rained you would get soaked trying to enter the home, and forget about sitting under the patio cover when it rained. There were broken beams in the garage, during the summer it got so ho in the house. The fascia was destroyed. The electrical wiring between the house and garage was a mess. You name it, it was damaged. Steve assured me that he and his men could fix it. I waited to write a review until after it had rained. Well its rained a bit and its supposed to rain today. WHAT A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! NO MORE LEAKS ANYWHERE. I can sit in my home and enjoy the rain again without wondering where the rain would come in. Steve is an honest businessman with great prices and great workmanship. communication was always there AND his business accepts credit cards. maybe you're uber rich and have potentially $10k+ laying around to throw towards a roof at any given notice but we certainly did not. work was completed a day earlier than initially quoted and they cleaned up the mess very nicely. they did run over and kill my wife's plumeria tree and we had to spend $50 to have the satellite dish reinstalled but those things are minor when you get a good deal overall. well, still a little sad about the plumeria. would definitely recommend AGL. roof looks great. read more

This is only my second review I've ever done on yelp the first one was from a restaurant this one is about A G L Roofing company Steve Shepard and his crew I started working on this project this summer of 2018 got several quotes from different companies be careful there's a lot of scammers out there I told Steve I wanted to go with a different shingle then he recommended. Steve Shepherd also told me to be careful about the manufacturers warranty if you don't use the right underlay to go underneath the shingle it will void the warranty so be very careful about that. They also included a electric fan installation that automatically comes on when the add it gets too hot Steve and his crew install it you just have to provide electricity no other roofing company even suggested that but as I was thinking about it that makes a lot of sense.After talking to him he has a certification from the manufacturer for one of the Best asphalt shingle companies in the business Manufactured in the USA. To make a long story short I don't know why anybody would want to go with any other company besides Steve Shepard and his fantastic Team of employees. A G L Roofing is definitely the way to go I had two old roofs on there the oldest roof was wood shingles second roof asphalt shingles they tore both roofs off re-sheeted my roof replaced any damage wood dry rot or termite damaged Steve pulled the permit him self. My roof was in the middle of rain storms that we've had in February. My garage is detached from my house when they were tearing off my roof of course some of the Old roof they had to remove fell into my neighbors yard. His team of employees cleaned up my neighbors yard inside of my garage. When they finished they left my property very clean my neighbor said to me they love my roof they wished my roof was on their house Steve Shepard and his company are very professional I could not of asked for a better job. The next day after they finished they started on Monday finished on Tuesday Wednesday there was a big rain it rain so hard the inspector couldn't even find the yellow sheet of paper to sign it off it had blown away from where they taped it on my house luckily we did find the paper on my front yard. I went on that website home advisors I believe I've talk to four different companies from there they all had a scam they had a price for today they had a price for next week and then a price for a month down the road they wanted you to sign on the line the contract right then and there.My advice to anybody that is looking for a whole new roof if you have a lot of time to waste of your own go out and talk to 20 different roofers you'll get 20 different prices probably 20 different scams possibly then call call Steve Shepard at AGL roofing Believe me I did my homework calling a bunch of different places and Steve Shepherd and his team of employees including his employees it picks up the phone in the office that I had to pick out the color of my roof and metal stripping around the roof colors five stars read more
