I hired J Taylor to replace a very large leaking roof on my house. Workmanship on the US Tile roof was excellent and there were no leaks during recent rains. The city inspector even remarked at how well the roof was installed. Taylor even coordinated with the solar panel installers a couple of times to allow the solar folks to not have to walk on tile to do the standoffs and panels installation. Rod Taylor was very helpful in recommending technically optimum solutions based on his extensive experience, including type of underlayment and type of tile. I called Rod to do a repair on my mom's roof after we had her a/c installed and they told me there was loose shingles. Rod answered right away but came out a couple of weeks later after we had rain. I thought when he came out he would repair it but he only looked at it and told me he'd call me back in a few weeks because he doesn't have his schedule out yet. Meanwhile I decided to get a new roof and would talk to him when he called back. Since he didn't call me I called him back. He said he'd call me back in a week. I never heard back from him and gave the job to another roofer that squeezed me in. This was a difficult review to write since Rod is a nice guy and he came through before. I only wish he would have been honest with me and told me he wasn't interested in the job then stringing me along by telling me he'd call and at the end not even calling back. He not only lost my mom's job but my own home which I'm planning on re-roofing next year. read more

We just had our entire roof replaced by J Taylor Roofing and had a great experience! The process of trying to find a roofer had been a bit of a nightmare and stressful with other companies feeling scammy, pushy, dishonest, and unreliable. I received 6 bids total. When I met Rod for the estimate, I felt he was honest, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly (he was also friendly to my dog which is always a plus :)). The pricing was competitive and fair. Like the other reviewer mentioned, Rod has a reassuring and calm manner and I liked that he knew the Torrance area well and is very experienced. This was my first time having roof work done so I had several questions throughout the process. I spoke to Georgia from their office several times and she was always so helpful and answered all my questions very quickly or had Rod call me back. Our roofers who were on site, Abel and Juan, were great as well! Abel always kept me up-to-date on the process and I really appreciated his professional, positive, and friendly attitude. I was worried about debris, esp bc of my dog, but they cleaned up really well each day. I felt they cared about their workmanship and were efficient, the process went very smoothly. We also had a last minute request on the final day of work to remove some awning and they were accommodating and able to get it done before they left which I appreciated. This is probably the longest review I've ever left but I am really happy with their services and wanted to share my experience to save anyone else the headache I went through before I met them! Our roof was too old for Tesla Solar, and so I reached out to Rod and about five other companies. He was out and worked on it so fast that we were done before some other companies could even respond. Pricing was as fair as can be and I would have stuck with him even if priced higher for a few reasons. Firstly, he beat out everyone by getting to my location of North Torrance, so if you're in the nearby area.... he's local. Secondly, he was responsive, so if service and peace of mind is important to you, it was provided in spades. I didnt need the entire roof done, and I wasnt being oversold (unlike other companies tried to do).... fantastic. This is an old school roofing company, by which I mean they are competent, responsive, straight forward and there word is good. I asked them to replace a furnace vent cap on my 2 story roof. They normally would not do a job that small, but Rod said it was an easy job and they were close to my place. This is the worst roofing company I have ever dealt with. The owner does not even care about customer service. They never fix it right the first time and complete lack of response. We had a full roof replacement done by J Taylor Roofing in Nov 2021, this was an excellent experience, they are very professional and their pricing is fair. I got 5 bids and theirs was very competitive, the key to making a decision is Rod Taylor, he has a very reassuring manner and knows what he is talking about. He brought over samples of roofing materials and colors for us to evaluate and provided addresses of jobs with those colors, which we were able to see in person. His crews showed up on time, protected the property and got the job done quickly. The City of Torrance has a long backlog, so the inspector showing up was the only delay, which was not a big deal. The job was done right, including replacement of wood (at the price per foot listed in his proposal as an extra). I'm very satisfied with the results. Lastly, Rod didn't collect payment until completion of the job, I was satisfied and final signature by the inspector. I would 100% recommend J Taylor Roofing. This is easily a 5-star contractor. I have a small rental house that was badly in need of a new roof. I obtained estimates from three local roofing companies who were highly recommended by neighbors on the NextDoor app. All three bids were very close--within just a few hundred dollars of each other, so price was not a deciding factor in my selection. After meeting Rod Taylor at the property and discussing the job at hand, I decided to go with J. Taylor Roofing as I felt this company was very competent and would do a professional job. The installation went smooth and quick. It took one day to strip off all layers of roofing and replace the fascia and a few rotted boards. The only delay was waiting for the city inspector to come out and approve it. Once approved, it took just one more day to install the new asphalt shingles and the roof was done. There is one thing I want everyone to know concerning the honesty of this company. After all the old roof layers were stripped off, Rod Taylor called me and said he had good news. He said the sheathing was still in good condition and did not need to be replaced, so that would save me about $2,000. Now any roofing company could have easily snuck that past me and I would have never known, but J. Taylor took the high road. For that, I was GREATLY appreciative of it. By the way, they did not ask for a single penny from me until the job was 100% complete. And yes, the final invoice was over $2,000 less than the original estimate. The recent down pours revealed a leak in our roof. I figured it was simple repair probably due to a crack around a vent. I called multiple places and received several quotes. A few places stated that they don't do small repairs and others just said that they would need to replace the entire section of roof with the leak with a minimum fee in the thousands. J Taylor Roofing took the time to come by and give me an honest quote. Stating that it was a small repair but they had a minimum which would require them to do some sprucing and housekeeping of our entire roof. Let me say first, that I can't say enough how great Rod Taylor and his crew are! That being said, I'm going to try. I've dealt with a LOT of home contractors in the past 40 years of owning a home. I've had bad ones and good ones. J Taylor roofing is among the best of the best. I had a pretty bad roof leak during this past storm that we had here in the South Bay and I'd had several estimates. Prior to getting estimates, I did the work of figuring out what a reasonable estimate would be and without fail, ALL of the estimates were two to three times what I expected. Then my sister recommended J Taylor roofing and their estimate was right on the money (thanks Sis!). Rod came by and explained everything that would be required, and provided a written estimate with all of the costs clearly explained including the ones that might change based on what they found once the old shingles were removed like the cost to replace damaged plywood etc. I went up on the roof each day after work to review the status. Rod indicated it would take three days and it took three days. One to tear off the old roof, one to repair and replace damaged plywood and one to put down the new roof. One of the things I had them cost was to replace the facia boards all around. When the guys did that part, they pointed out that only a couple of places really needed replacing and so they saved me a bunch by not doing unnecessary work! Also, during the work, one of the workers (great guys) accidentally put a hole in the ceiling drywall (vaulted ceilings meaning the ceiling drywall is right up there where they are working). No worries, Rod had a ceiling repair guy come by and fix the hole right away (no cost of course). They put down tarps around the house to catch any dirt and bits of roofing as they worked and then cleaned up after each day. It's a family business and they take real pride in doing a good job. Customer service from a roofing company? Yup - that's what you get with J Taylor. While most 5-star reviews are about all the sparkling things that went right with a roofing job, we had one area with mis-matched paint that we weren't happy about - and Rod immediately addressed it with his team and it was corrected. The following year, we had heavy rains - and OUR ROOF WAS LEAKING. They came out, and determined that it was most likely our fireplace and not the roof. Instead of just leaving us hanging during the storm - they covered the entire chimney with plastic to keep us dry, and returned after the rain to troubleshoot. It was indeed the chimney, so they took photos to help us address it with a fireplace repair team - but they recovered the chimney with plastic for us to protect us from any further leaks until the repairs on the fireplace were complete. Rod and his team were professional and polite - and deserve the 5 stars. Go with J Taylor, and you'll be happy not only with the customer service - but with your new roof! read more

J Taylor Roofing Inc. just finished replacing our Spanish Tile roof for our 2,590 sq ft house with two very steep angle roof levels making the job more difficult. We are very pleased with the finished roof. Rod Taylor, the owner, came out to give us an estimate. He walked the roof and took pictures of problem areas that were visible. Other roofers refused to go on the roof and identify known problems. We selected J. Taylor in early January, but could not schedule the job until mid February. To prevent further interior leak damage from rainy weather, they did temporary fixes to the leak areas at no charge. All other roofers stated there would be an additional charge. The crew always came around 7:30am and cleaned up when they were finished for the day. The crew and Rod were always available to answer questions as the job was progressing. I needed a smokestack chimney removed from my roof in a home I recently moved in. It would require patching the hole in the roof that would be left behind.
