Great company. Responsible, knowledgeable, do great work! Highly recommend! Put on a new roof on one of our income properties and also did repair work on the roof at our townhouse complex! Excellent work on both projects!!! read more

I am very happy with the new roof on my home. The guys who did the work were awesome. They were protective of the garden plants around the house and cleaned up perfectly afterwards. The work looks good, and they were friendly and considerate to my next-door neighbors. read more

What a fabulous contractor! We just had a great experience with J Taylor Roofing. Their people are skilled, friendly and leave the place spotless when they are done. We had them re-roof the portico in front of the house and replace about "a hundred" broken roof tiles. (Renovation, tenting....it takes a toll.) Thank you! read more

I called Rod to do a repair on my mom's roof after we had her a/c installed and they told me there was loose shingles. Rod answered right away but came out a couple of weeks later after we had rain. I thought when he came out he would repair it but he only looked at it and told me he'd call me back in a few weeks because he doesn't have his schedule out yet. Meanwhile I decided to get a new roof and would talk to him when he called back. Since he didn't call me I called him back. He said he'd call me back in a week. I never heard back from him and gave the job to another roofer that squeezed me in. This was a difficult review to write since Rod is a nice guy and he came through before. I only wish he would have been honest with me and told me he wasn't interested in the job then stringing me along by telling me he'd call and at the end not even calling back. He not only lost my mom's job but my own home which I'm planning on re-roofing next year. read more

I hired J Taylor to replace a very large leaking roof on my house. Workmanship on the US Tile roof was excellent and there were no leaks during recent rains. The city inspector even remarked at how well the roof was installed. Taylor even coordinated with the solar panel installers a couple of times to allow the solar folks to not have to walk on tile to do the standoffs and panels installation. Rod Taylor was very helpful in recommending technically optimum solutions based on his extensive experience, including type of underlayment and type of tile. J Taylor is in high demand so plan on a multi-month wait to get a roof installed. read more

We just had our entire roof replaced by J Taylor Roofing and had a great experience! The process of trying to find a roofer had been a bit of a nightmare and stressful with other companies feeling scammy, pushy, dishonest, and unreliable. I received 6 bids total. When I met Rod for the estimate, I felt he was honest, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly (he was also friendly to my dog which is always a plus :)). The pricing was competitive and fair. Like the other reviewer mentioned, Rod has a reassuring and calm manner and I liked that he knew the Torrance area well and is very experienced. This was my first time having roof work done so I had several questions throughout the process. I spoke to Georgia from their office several times and she was always so helpful and answered all my questions very quickly or had Rod call me back. Our roofers who were on site, Abel and Juan, were great as well! Abel always kept me up-to-date on the process and I really appreciated his professional, positive, and friendly attitude. I was worried about debris, esp bc of my dog, but they cleaned up really well each day. I felt they cared about their workmanship and were efficient, the process went very smoothly. We also had a last minute request on the final day of work to remove some awning and they were accommodating and able to get it done before they left which I appreciated. This is probably the longest review I've ever left but I am really happy with their services and wanted to share my experience to save anyone else the headache I went through before I met them! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Our roof was too old for Tesla Solar, and so I reached out to Rod and about five other companies. He was out and worked on it so fast that we were done before some other companies could even respond. Pricing was as fair as can be and I would have stuck with him even if priced higher for a few reasons. Firstly, he beat out everyone by getting to my location of North Torrance, so if you're in the nearby area.... he's local. Secondly, he was responsive, so if service and peace of mind is important to you, it was provided in spades. I didnt need the entire roof done, and I wasnt being oversold (unlike other companies tried to do).... fantastic. FWIW tesla was super picky with the permit, and you can get a copy online https://www.torranceca.gov/services/community-development/properties-permits-and-records-search being a non practicing licensed contractor, I was impressed by the no nonsense approach. read more

J Taylor Roofing - Taylor Roofing + Tesla Solar = awesome - Roofing Near Me - Gardena, California

We have an aging roof and just got solar installed. I contacted several roofers to inspect the work and Rod at J Taylor Roofing was the quickest to respond. This was my first hint that I was talking with the right company! Rod came by the next morning with his crew and got up on the roof to inspect. Not only did he show us what the solar company did not do correctly, but even fixed an old opening in the roof for us that he found at no extra charge! This company is the only roofing company I will ever use on my home. They are on time, super friendly, and honest. It seems on my first impression that they will go the extra mile for you and are experts in their craft. Thanks again to Rod and company for helping us out. Now I can have the solar company fix their mistakes and prevent major roof leaks from happening. read more

We really appreciate the service went very well the workers were polite and professional when they were done with the roof not one nail was left in the yard thank J Taylor Roofing read more

This is an old school roofing company, by which I mean they are competent, responsive, straight forward and there word is good. I asked them to replace a furnace vent cap on my 2 story roof. They normally would not do a job that small, but Rod said it was an easy job and they were close to my place. He was going to charge me a discounted rate due to the ease of the job, but when I sent him my billing info, he said forget it, it was FREE! (one of my fav 4-letter words!). Thanks Rod! read more

This is the worst roofing company I have ever dealt with. The owner does not even care about customer service. They never fix it right the first time and complete lack of response. Worst service and bad quaility. I have no idea what these other reviewers are coming from. Must be family and friends because this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. These have to be fake reviews. Now the owner below is making some comments that are completely lies tyring to say that he has never worked on this building. We have multiple invoices of work performed. He talks about free consultation? We never asked for anything to be preformed free??? Nor has there been any communication of what the issues were. Rod/Taylor, you are a liar and just making up things. Just management your business. My tenants said that you didn't do anything and made no effort in addressing the roofing issues. Previous owner had also mentioned that they have had similar problems with you in the past. My tenant complained that you didn't do anything to resolve the problem. You say you were coming out to look at building and we don't hear from you. The leaks that you supposedly fixed last year are still here. No professionalism. Please Taylor, stop lieing. You are a liar. Previous owner of building mentioned the same thing. Stop getting your friends, workers and family to write all these 5 star reviews. Nonsense!! read more

Always dependable. Helped me repair my roof after errant alarm guy drilled 15 holes in roof. Recommend them to my friends

We had a full roof replacement done by J Taylor Roofing in Nov 2021, this was an excellent experience, they are very professional and their pricing is fair. I got 5 bids and theirs was very competitive, the key to making a decision is Rod Taylor, he has a very reassuring manner and knows what he is talking about. He brought over samples of roofing materials and colors for us to evaluate and provided addresses of jobs with those colors, which we were able to see in person. His crews showed up on time, protected the property and got the job done quickly. The City of Torrance has a long backlog, so the inspector showing up was the only delay, which was not a big deal. The job was done right, including replacement of wood (at the price per foot listed in his proposal as an extra). I'm very satisfied with the results. Lastly, Rod didn't collect payment until completion of the job, I was satisfied and final signature by the inspector. I would 100% recommend J Taylor Roofing. This is easily a 5-star contractor. The storm that brought huge rains to Southern California really challenged my roof. I woke up to a small leak the fortunately only made the floor slippery. Knowing that a leak left untreated can lead to long term damage, I looked for a roofing company to see if they can come out. Remember that this was days of rain we were having. Rod, the owner, came out and gave me an estimate without trying to sell me anything I didn't need. The work was done well and I didn't see another leak when the rest of the rain came in. I would highly recommend. read more

This is an over due review. Last year's winter storm left our roof with a major leak that damaged our master's bedroom walls and carpets. We had Rod come over to repair the roof. He came and looked at our the roof. He proposed to fix the area of the roof that was leaking. The price was very reasonable. So how do we know if the repair is done right? Well, during this year's winter storm our roof did not leak one bit. Great job to Rod and his crews. I highly recommend this roofing company. read more

J Taylor Roofing is truly a local company that serves its community with professional standards. We call the company due to a leaking roof, and they performed a great job .... Leaks stopped as well as they inspected our roof for other signs of trouble. They are professional in getting the work done, they even came back and rechecked the roof for any other leaks from the past rainfall. I would highly recommend J. Taylor Roofing for all roofing needs. read more

I have a small rental house that was badly in need of a new roof. I obtained estimates from three local roofing companies who were highly recommended by neighbors on the NextDoor app. All three bids were very close--within just a few hundred dollars of each other, so price was not a deciding factor in my selection. After meeting Rod Taylor at the property and discussing the job at hand, I decided to go with J. Taylor Roofing as I felt this company was very competent and would do a professional job. The installation went smooth and quick. It took one day to strip off all layers of roofing and replace the fascia and a few rotted boards. The only delay was waiting for the city inspector to come out and approve it. Once approved, it took just one more day to install the new asphalt shingles and the roof was done. There is one thing I want everyone to know concerning the honesty of this company. After all the old roof layers were stripped off, Rod Taylor called me and said he had good news. He said the sheathing was still in good condition and did not need to be replaced, so that would save me about $2,000. Now any roofing company could have easily snuck that past me and I would have never known, but J. Taylor took the high road. For that, I was GREATLY appreciative of it. By the way, they did not ask for a single penny from me until the job was 100% complete. And yes, the final invoice was over $2,000 less than the original estimate. I had a very good overall experience with this roofing company and I highly recommend them. read more

The recent down pours revealed a leak in our roof. I figured it was simple repair probably due to a crack around a vent. I called multiple places and received several quotes. A few places stated that they don't do small repairs and others just said that they would need to replace the entire section of roof with the leak with a minimum fee in the thousands. J Taylor Roofing took the time to come by and give me an honest quote. Stating that it was a small repair but they had a minimum which would require them to do some sprucing and housekeeping of our entire roof. The price was reasonable and it took an hour of their time excluding the time for the estimate. I appreciate a hardworking business with honest people. It rained pretty hard following the repair and the leak is gone. Yay! If I have any other roofing needs in the future, I'm definitely calling them. read more

Rod clearly takes pride in the work done by his company. The five year warranty provides good peace of mind knowing they'll be back to fix it if anything goes wrong. Rod was open to a variety of ideas about venting the attic and worked with me ahead of time until we figured out how to fit sufficient venting to meet guidelines and pass inspection. The work was done quickly and with expertise! It felt good being protected by a great new roof during the recent rain storm. read more

I discovered a small leak at the top of my roof. Talked to a few other companies that all wanted to replace my entire roof even though it is only 6 years old. They were able to perform the repair a couple days later and save me thousands. read more

The company is amazing to deal with and does excellent work! It's refreshing to have an honest company a phone call away for any issues I have with roofing. Contacted Taylor Roofing through Yelp for an emergency roof leak on my rental and got a quick response from Rod to setup an inspection next day. Extremely professional and gave us a quote faster than every competitor we also called to inspect our roof. I can't recommend highly enough.

I can't thank Rod & boys enough for coming out to my house in the rain, identifying the leak in my roof and repairing it on the spot. Did I mention it was raining when they repaired it!! I had noticed a leak in my roof a couple weeks ago. I tried calling multiple roofing companies and left numerous messages -- couldn't get anyone to even call me back. Not only did Rod call me back right away, he came over the very next day and repaired my roof. This is a top notch, professional and honest roofing company. 5 Stars!!! Thanks again, Rod... read more

Let me say first, that I can't say enough how great Rod Taylor and his crew are! That being said, I'm going to try. I've dealt with a LOT of home contractors in the past 40 years of owning a home. I've had bad ones and good ones. J Taylor roofing is among the best of the best. I had a pretty bad roof leak during this past storm that we had here in the South Bay and I'd had several estimates. Prior to getting estimates, I did the work of figuring out what a reasonable estimate would be and without fail, ALL of the estimates were two to three times what I expected. Then my sister recommended J Taylor roofing and their estimate was right on the money (thanks Sis!). Rod came by and explained everything that would be required, and provided a written estimate with all of the costs clearly explained including the ones that might change based on what they found once the old shingles were removed like the cost to replace damaged plywood etc. I went up on the roof each day after work to review the status. Rod indicated it would take three days and it took three days. One to tear off the old roof, one to repair and replace damaged plywood and one to put down the new roof. One of the things I had them cost was to replace the facia boards all around. When the guys did that part, they pointed out that only a couple of places really needed replacing and so they saved me a bunch by not doing unnecessary work! Also, during the work, one of the workers (great guys) accidentally put a hole in the ceiling drywall (vaulted ceilings meaning the ceiling drywall is right up there where they are working). No worries, Rod had a ceiling repair guy come by and fix the hole right away (no cost of course). They put down tarps around the house to catch any dirt and bits of roofing as they worked and then cleaned up after each day. It's a family business and they take real pride in doing a good job. Thanks Rod! read more

We had a great experience with J. Taylor. I've spoken to a couple of their family members throughout the process and they have been so honest and just lovely, good people. Customer service from a roofing company? Yup - that's what you get with J Taylor. While most 5-star reviews are about all the sparkling things that went right with a roofing job, we had one area with mis-matched paint that we weren't happy about - and Rod immediately addressed it with his team and it was corrected. The following year, we had heavy rains - and OUR ROOF WAS LEAKING. They came out, and determined that it was most likely our fireplace and not the roof. Instead of just leaving us hanging during the storm - they covered the entire chimney with plastic to keep us dry, and returned after the rain to troubleshoot. It was indeed the chimney, so they took photos to help us address it with a fireplace repair team - but they recovered the chimney with plastic for us to protect us from any further leaks until the repairs on the fireplace were complete. Rod and his team were professional and polite - and deserve the 5 stars. Go with J Taylor, and you'll be happy not only with the customer service - but with your new roof! read more

They're not even done yet.. finishing up today and I'm already confident giving them 5 stars before seeing the final bill. I'm very happy with the service. They finished the garage and it looks amazing. Can't even believe it's the same house. These guys are awesome. Thank you so much! read more

I would like to extend our appreciation to Rod Taylor of J Taylor Roofing, Who installed a brand-new roof on our home. This past winter we had some serious rain and we had several leaks that Rod and his team worked diligently to identify and made excellent repairs. I then decided it was time to evaluate a new roof for our home and we had Rod give us an excellent price quote and we really appreciated his honesty and thoroughness with this process. It is important to note that I had a total of four estimates and Rod not only had great pricing but his honesty in helping us with the repairs first and then making Great recommendations on the new roof is what earned our business. read more

J Taylor Roofing Inc. just finished replacing our Spanish Tile roof for our 2,590 sq ft house with two very steep angle roof levels making the job more difficult. We are very pleased with the finished roof. Rod Taylor, the owner, came out to give us an estimate. He walked the roof and took pictures of problem areas that were visible. Other roofers refused to go on the roof and identify known problems. We selected J. Taylor in early January, but could not schedule the job until mid February. To prevent further interior leak damage from rainy weather, they did temporary fixes to the leak areas at no charge. All other roofers stated there would be an additional charge. The crew always came around 7:30am and cleaned up when they were finished for the day. The crew and Rod were always available to answer questions as the job was progressing. We are very pleased with J Taylor Roofing Inc. and highly recommend this company. read more

J. Taylor Roofing is the Greatest! We needed a new roof and contacted several roofing companies. J. Taylor's quote was thousands less than the others. What is really great about J. Taylor Roofing is that they are "Old School." They've been in business for 50 years and you know the mortgage has been paid off! What's more, they're not taking 40% down and then go to another job. They take NOTHING down until the job is finished to your satisfaction. Rod Taylor, the owner, says it builds TRUST. That's true. I had great peace of mind knowing that they would stand behind their workmanship and products without taking a penny. They worked on our roof from start to finish. No gaps in service. J. Taylor Roofing is a family-owned business. "Mom" Taylor answers the phone. Her son, Rod, runs the company "hands on." They don't send a salesman out to sell you a new roof with all the bells and whistles, they send out the Owner, Rod Taylor. The team was very professional and cleaned up after themselves. Very polite, too. Rod Taylor has a lot of integrity. Everything he said he would do he performed on. I'd give them 10 Stars if only I could! read more
