Agave & Rye serves the best tacos we've ever consumed in our lives! The chips are homemade and delicious and the salsa was second to none. Their tacos are bigger than your average street taco and wrapped in a hard corn shell and a soft flour tortilla. We ordered the Whipper Snapper, the Swipe Right, and the Rooster tacos and they were excellent! Our personal favorite was the Swipe Right. Their menu is not super extensive but their bourbon and tequila menu is as long as your arm. The music selection was good and the inside has a really eclectic style. You MUST try this if you enjoy tacos and are in the area. read more

My experience was amazing! The staff was friendly and went above and beyond to help my husband who is a particular eater find a taco he wanted that was no longer on the menu and they were willing to still make it! The food came out fast and flavorful. The staff was so friendly and helpful! 2 thumbs up! read more

My first visit to Agave & Rye tonight was disappointing. I had been looking forward to chips and salsa/queso/guacamole, street tacos and a Margarita all day. Needless to say I ordered all of those things, however I was extremely unimpressed! First, quite possibly the worst most expensive Margarita (rocks/salt) I've ever had. Tasted like perfume and overly sweet. I sent it back. I asked for another with an explanation of what I wanted. That one wasn't much better. I then switched to beer. Very disappointed! How do you mess up such an easy cocktail!? Ok, maybe you didn't mess it up, you just make Margaritas that I don't like. Chips were cold/old. Tacos were average at best! The Mahi fish taco I had in my trio was the worst of the three. The two were slightly better. Seriously lacking depth of flavor. I feel that unique/complicated aspect of their menu offerings lead to food that may look good or have many profiles, but misses the mark for me. I'll stick to La Mexicana in Newport. read more

Food was good, wish my aloha bowl didn't have as much rice in it, but more of the good stuff- chicken, pineapple salsa. That is typical of those rice bowls, though.. heavy on the rice as a base so you feel full after you finish it and then smaller portions with the other things. Good Brussels sprout appetizer. I enjoy how they put a hard shell taco in the soft shell! The tacos are a good portion read more

This isn't a food or service review but rather a management review. I was there last night and heard via the staff that they are open on Christmas Eve... ...Until MIDNIGHT!!!!! I'm sorry but that is inexcusable and a poor decision by their management team. You have a good team there and this isn't fair to them, and you aren't Waffle House. I hope they reconsider. read more

Came here for dinner with two of my girlfriends as the menu online seemed decent and the prices looked great - $4 for a taco?! Right when we walked in we were taken back by the interior - it seems the decorators did not leave one nook or cranny un touched or decorated. From the wall art, floor art, to the statues, chandeliers, etc. - this place always had somewhere new to look to take in another area of decorating and art. Besides the decorations creating a cool vibe, it was great that it was seat yourself so that we could choose which one of the tables we wanted to sit at. The menus, silverware, napkins (paper towels) were all already set on each table so right when we sat down we were able to begin searching for what we wanted to order. The menu was playful and broken down into "Graze" "Swim" "Grow" to designate what the protein was in each taco. We ordered their Chips & Guac ($5) and split that between the 3 of us as an appetizer - the portions were HUGE - and we didn't end up finishing the chips or guac. One downfall was on one scoop into the guac my friend found the top / stem of the avocado in it :/ Otherwise the guac was tasty and the chips were large, not too greasy, and the perfect flakey-ness! Well worth our $5! When it came to ordering tacos I got the #13 "The Mole" and my friends got the #12 "The Goody Tooshie," the #1 "The Rooster," the #5 "The Rima D." All of our tacos were $4-$5 and served with a soft shell taco and a hard shell taco which was confusing at first but ended up really tasting delicious and helped make it A LOT easier to eat. The tacos were filling, good size and tasted great - only needed to add salt & pepper to them once we had them delivered to us! And I kid you not, during our meal my one friend actually even said "these are the best tacos I've had in Cincinnati!" We ordered drinks with our tacos and 2 of us ordered the Wild Berry Margarita on the rocks and my other friend ordered the Mango Margarita frozen. These were each $9 which I at first was hesitant at purchasing (seemed a little pricey for their size) but they turned out to be a little better than expected. It was very cute that the margs were served in mason jar classes with a lime and the flavor was very smooth - not too much salt and not too much tequila. Overall, we had a great experience at Agave & Rye - the value for the food was AMAZING, the margs were good and the atmosphere was cute and different for the greater Cincinnati area! I will definitely be coming back! Rankings on the Morgan scale: Experience: 9/10 Drink Price: 8/10 Food Price: 10/10 read more

There are most definitely better taco places in Cincinnati. Especially for the price! I really wanted to like agave and rye, I've had so many friends go and love their experience but all of the items we ordered were dry and flavorless. We tried the bees knees, the snitch, the pumpkin eater and the epic taco. I haven't met many tacos I don't finish but there were several bites left behind. read more

Ordered the big thumper and it came without the meat, sauce, and carrots. so it was just an egg and rice in a taco shell! We told the waitress and she brought a new one and said she'd take it off the bill. when the bill came we were charged for 2 of them instead of 0 like she had promised! She ended up charging us for one, which was disappointing considering we were given a kangaroo taco without the kangaroo! The rest of the food was good, but we were underwhelmed by the service. read more

First time trying this place. Atmosphere unique and lively. Interior is funky and very modern/retro-chic. Food... salsa and chips have to be house made. They're BOMB. Tacos... unique. Never been to a place like this. I tried two different ones and they were HUGE and both excellent. Wish I had room to finish them. Margaritas tasted great too. read more

Great tacos! Great Service!! Chips and queso in the absolutely best! So many drinks to pick from

Amazing Taco Tuesday and Happy Hour at Agave & Rye! The restaurant is located around the corner from Braxton Brewery, directly across from Hotel Covington and next door to Sugar Whiskey Sis! The decor is absolutely awesome inside and there are lots of large umbrella covered picnic tables available outside for dining outdoors on a nice day! We enjoy Agave & Rye for date night and also for family dining! Our kids love it as much as we do! The chips and queso are outstanding! Chips are house made and are so fresh and the queso is so tasty! They are only $3 on Taco Tuesday! We love the selection of margaritas and bourbon drinks available here, there are so many options to choose from! Our favorite is the Agave Epic Rita! It's made with Anejo tequila, Gran Gala, fresh lime juice, agave and some secret ingredients! The taco selection is incredible! We have tried most of the tacos and they have all been amazing! Out family favorite taco is the Bee's Knees! It has honey lime grilled chicken, roasted jalapeno, pico and cilantro and it's only $3 on Taco Tuesday! read more

Agave & Rye took on the monster task of competing with some nearby incredible taco joints. While I don't think they're the best in town, they certainly hold their own. Agave & Rye definitely seems to tackle some more obscure tacos, including the Rooster (Crispy Chicken, Mac n' Cheese, Nashville)... that's right.... Mac n' Cheese in a taco. My sober-self is a little disgusted with how much my not-so-sober self enjoyed the taco. The prices felt a little higher than most of their competition but the portions also felt a little larger. I think that Agave & Rye may need a little work on quality control. I've ordered the "crispy Brussels sprouts" a couple times (one of which was a carry-out order, which may have been the culprit) and unfortunately, they were never crispy. I think there's lots of potential here, but a little more 'umph' and attention to detail could take Agave & Rye to the next level. I definitely applaud the adventurous menu, and hope that they can fine-tune things a bit to make this a 5-star review. read more

We didn't like anything. I tried all of the veggie tacos. Awful. Why take healthy options and fry them? I REALLY didn't enjoy the multiple shells. And the corn shells broke almost immediately. Horribly messy. The salsa was so spicy that it was difficult to enjoy. My husband also didn't like the double shell that broke right away. He ordered three 'meat' tacos. Said they had no flavor. All in all, it was good. Neat idea, bad execution on the food. We talked w the manager and shared our grievances...she acted quite surprised. Said she has never been given that feed back. I find that hard to believe. read more

Loved it!(: Great friendly service and very unique tacos. Nice location too for other activities before/after.

Visited last night around 10pm. Ordered grilled tacos which when ordered I was "NOT" informed the onions were mixed with peppers therefore told they would eliminate. Received with onion and only then was i told it was "all or nothing mix" I requested to send back. Manager visited table telling me language barrier between waitress and Spanish speaking (primary lanaguage) was barrier. I suggested j would not eat after being told my options were tomatoes, cheese...she insisted to make my order right. Brought back mahi with small, I mean small pieces of tomato, diced mahi very small portion and side of lettuce "very wet and watery" very bland, no taste. We requested the cost for mahi to be removed. Another Manager came to our table and immediately said "no".. I have eaten at the liberty location, same order and they were very accommodating and food was great. Will never return to this location nor recommend. Around 130am, woke with INTENSE stomach pain, spent hours on floor sick what I belied was food poisoning with emesis and diarrhea. I only give 1 star bc my husband enjoyed his two epic mahi tacos read more

Agave & Rye - Covington - Better than the food. Jalapeños margaritas - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Covington, Kentucky

My friend and I stopped by here for a bite to eat before our book club. It's conveniently located across Hotel Covington on Madison Avenue. we arrived at 5 pm, the restaurant have few costumers already, there's a sign at the front that says find your own seat. We found a table by the window, which was nice since we like people watching too. We were warmly greeted by our server, and was asked what we want to drink. He came back right away with our glasses of water, and came back with our adult beverages. I like that they have happy hour specials, I ordered a margarita- too sweet for my taste buds since I don't normally do any sweetener, but still delicious when I added more ice, of course I have to drink it fast before it gets too watery. I forgot to ask the name of our server, he was very attentive and helpful with us making our drinks and food choices. Since both of us limits our carb intake, he suggested making a bowl of our tacos instead of tacos our food comes in a bed of lettuce. Our food was delicious, I just hope the serving size is bigger considering I paid $14. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and added bacon just makes the fish perfect. They don't have wine in a bottle, but they offer a house wine in a can which seemed interesting. It's $10 for a can, a little pricey for my budget thinking noggin. I will definitely came back here again and try some of the food choices. read more

First time visitors. Really excited to try the place! Food was fantastic! Theres something on the menu for everyone. The taco I chose was magnificent and I will have a hard time choosing anything else. The Mac Daddy taco! Now for the down side. Customer service. Not too many smiles or happiness by the employees. Saturday afternoon. And our server was a lovely person (young guy - interesting name - D-something?- smoking in the alley!), but really needs to find an occupation where he doesn't deal with customers. When a table tells you that they're new, excited to be there, and asks for recommendations, the server should really respond with a little enthusiasm. One small thing - we came during the day, so you could really see that the place needs a deep cleaning. Sorry for negative review, but atmosphere should be just as important as the food. read more

I finally made it to Agave & Rye and I enjoyed my first visit! Our table split 3 - queso, pineapple salsa and guacamole! Of those, the pineapple salsa was my favorite. It was delicious! I tried the Rima D taco. Really unique offerings here... I wasn't even sure how all of the different things on it would be altogether, but it was delicious! The portions are big for tacos; after the chips and dips and the solo taco, I was very full! Good experience overall and I'll go back! read more

TERRIBLE service at Agave & Rye tonight! Took 30 minutes to get drinks, food took forever, didn't get silverware plates napkins etc. our waitress barely checked on us- they spilled a drink on my sister in law and said "good thing you have on black pants" and asked if she wanted another one- ummmm yeah? Then they didn't bring her a new one til we asked a couple times - horrible won't go again at least to this location - margs we're good but not worth the horrible wait and service read more

I had been excited to try this place out... It was ok... and I am someone who loves to sprinkle 5 stars but nothing about this taco place was stand out. I am thinking there are just too many good taco places in the city for this place to "Wow" me. DINNER REVIEW Overall: Unique tacos that I would definitely come back for. Came to Agave & Rye when I was in town for a work meeting and my local friends recommended we check it out. Just a quick jaunt across the river, Agave & Rye is a great option for creative tacos (with tongue in cheek names) and a laidback setting. The three of us came on a Monday night at 8:30 PM and had no issues getting a table. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and gave some great recommendations, which gets me to the food... FOOD: We started with a delicious guacamole (one of the better guacamoles I've ever had) and then set our sights on the bevy of unique taco options. They have one called the Hell Yea (I mean, how can you not order it while saying "Hell Yea"?) which has fried chicken, pimento cheese, pineapple slaw, dill pickle, and bacon. And then another called the All Nighter with duck confit, coconut milk, and lime and cilantro rice. The options were many but I settled on the Alderman (ancho grilled steak, chile de arbol salsa, Mexican Street Corn, and Cotija Cheese) and the Cat's Meow (Cheesy Grits, Andouille Sausage, and Bourbon Shrimp). Read those descriptions and tell me your mouth isn't watering! Beyond the uniqueness of the tacos, they are also HUGE so two (plus the guac) was enough for me for dinner. For around $20 total for a great dining experience and the guac, 2 tacos, and a beer, I will definitely be back to Agave & Rye. read more

**edited review** fully now understand why the booth was reserved and not used for dining. Extremely Happy with my experience, awesome service, and delicious food!! Definitely put this on your list to try. I was hesitant because of the reviews I read, then a friend recommended it to me, so I gave it a shot. Great food, great service, comfortable chairs!! Yes, they were busy, but they were busting it trying to service everyone. I took a star off because the owner reserved a booth when they weren't even there. We have been coming here for a year because we can walk from our house. But once we met Jeremy, behind the bar, we started coming every week. Their food is DELICIOUS. Their drinks are overpriced without much alcohol in them. Don't mind spending &9-$12 on drinks if I can taste the bourbon/liquor or whatever else is in there. So, all in all, try the drinks because they're sweet and tasty but don't expect a buzz for your $11 drink. They're more fun than anything. Do try ALL of the food - they hit their mark with the tacos and tortilla chips. The chips are thick and the queso is good (spicey.) Their tacos have all fresh ingredients and they double up the shells - you know, soft shell on the outside, hard shell inside, and you can pay $1 more for their refried beans between the shells. Two tacos is generally sufficient - they're about twice as big as Bakersfield OTR and with their food, Bakersfield now has some SERIOUS competition. read more
