When we finally decided on this hotel, mainly because it was halfway to our final destination of Pennsylvania, and it looked quite interesting, I had trouble booking through their webpage. Maybe you can blame it on me? I just couldn't quite get the system to accept the "check in--checkout" dates. So I gave them a call and booked through a representative located in Las Vegas Vegas. Everything went smoothly. She was very friendly and accommodating. We actually loved the curvy roads leading up to the winery and hotel. That portion of the trip would've been better in our roadster for sure! We were checked in by a friendly gentleman named Thomas. He gave us a room next to the outdoor pool. Finishings kind of reminded us a little bit of the accommodations. It was peacefully decorated, and mostly comfortable except for the couch. We were only using it to lounge in and something more comfortable would have been desirable. I took advantage of the dry sauna and hot tub, which was a short walk across the parking lot. We tried to take advantage of the grounds by walking around the small lake and through the fields. If they were in a dedicated walking trails, we didn't find them! We took a tour of the main house and enjoyed our French inspired continental breakfast, though croissants would've been a nice touch! The vistas from the winery and the hotel are quite spectacular! If you're looking for boutique or personalized lodging with beautiful surroundings, this may work for you!

Yes, that would have worked, but I also would have missed the experience here. Being off season one cannot take in all the amenities like the pool, some of the outdoor activities, and just the ability to lounge or otherwise enjoy the surrounds while staying here. However, it still turned out to be a great experience. You need to pass through a double gate to get to the lobby. The first one would take you to the Trump Winery and the second one to the Estate itself. Yes, it is still a hotel, but it feels like a country club from start to finish. The place is small enough where they, for the most part, go off your name. Dinner reservation? Okay, here is your table. Done? There is no tab (or tip for that matter). Yes, you still need to pay for it, but it just goes on your room bill seamlessly. Want something? Just ask. From the tiny two-seat bar to anything else, service is pretty personal here. For dinner the ESTATE SALAD - Arcadian green mix topped with tomato, watermelon radish, goat cheese and golden beets dressed with Trump Blanc de Blanc vinaigrette, was amazing. My main of DUCK - Pan roasted medium-rare duck breast with cherry port wine sauce, honey glazed rainbow carrots, wild rice pilaf with estate grown herbs, was the best duck I have had in a very long time. Plus, having a flight of Trump wine (white in this case) gave me a preview of the winery I would get to tomorrow. The Viognier I found to be the surprise interest out of the four I tried.

Either way the tasting room is lovely and VERY DOG FRIENDLY, even inside which I love! Their wines were GOOD and the people running the counter (I think the gentleman was one of the owners and the young lady working beside him was a very friendly employee!) were so knowledgeable and fun to talk to! The grounds are just stunning. We loved playing with Buck the winery dog (and he and my own dog ran around having a blast!). The grandkids playing on the hill were fun to watch- it was just a beautiful day and we really enjoyed ourselves and their wine! The event space looks stunning but we weren't able to get more than just a peek through the windows. Apparently the cabin on the top of the hill is one you can rent! I wish we lived closer- but I know we'll be back next time we're in the area!

Didn't get to use the charcoal "park grill" that was added since our last visit but it looked like it has potential to make a great meal. "Next time!" Staff is friendly and goes to lengths to make sure you feel welcome and that your stay is comfortable. Wifi at the cabin was helpful in locating things to do in the area since there's no cell service. We kept the electronics to a minimum and enjoyed the beauty the area has to offer. The highlights of our stay were the hike to the top of Crabtree Falls, the beach fun at Sherando Lake and the visit to Wild Wolf Brewery for dinner and corn hole. Can't wait to book our next stay at what the kids have dubbed "our cabin in Virginia!" Lol!

If you are looking for a private cabin in the woods with easy access to a creek right outside the back door, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. - The cabin is located on a well-traveled road, not off the beaten path via the gravel drive depicted. - There are two additional homes right next door - a big rating of 0 for privacy. - The inside is extremely small (which was ok), but the photos do not accurately depict what is there. The full size washer/dryer (in the kitchen) is overkill in this little space , no cute table & chairs; instead an ugly bar thing. The furnishings are more than a little worn; look like they came from a bad second-hand store. - Bath is ok; no shower. - Upstairs is a one room loft. The video depicts 2 full size beds, the written description states 3. Which is it? Three beds and dressers, which makes for very little space to even move around. I can't imagine 6 adults sleeping up there. - If you are disabled or elderly, you will not be able to enjoy the creek in the back as one must navigate a steep vertical slope down/up. And, I mean steep! - While the cabin is set up to sleep a hand full of people, the size is truly for no more than 2 - even three would be pushing it. - As we didn't stay, I can't really comment on the kitchen (it "appeared" adequate) or the condition/comfort of the beds. We wanted to get away from it all, not be sharing our time with the neighbors next door and not be able to enjoy the creek and surrounding woods. Suffice it to say, people do not pack up with 2 large dogs, fill up with gas (which is not cheap these days), and travel for several hours only to turn around and leave. While we were offered to try another cabin, we declined in that we really didn't want to deal with folks who had been so deceptive from the get go and continued to place the blame on us since we didn't investigate the property on Google Maps. Really!!! We were offered a 50% refund, of which we only received a portion. We should have been refunded 100% for the pet fee charge and the arm load of fire wood we purchased, plus an error in their math when initially charging us. As far as I'm concerned, we should have been refunded for every penny.

This was my family's second time staying at Crabtree Falls Campground. The owner, AJ, is super…read morefriendly, responsive, and helpful in reserving by phone and email. We stayed at campsites 30, 31, and 32, which are at one end of the campground and feel more secluded, farther away from the other campsites. This means your car is not right next to your site, but we didn't mind walking back and forth (slightly uphill, along a path); we recently bought a collapsible utility wagon that was super helpful in carrying big things to and from the site. The sites sit higher above the river, so it's a bit steep if you want to go down and enjoy the water, but you can do so carefully and it's well worth it. You will love sitting by your fire, listening to the rushing river and feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere, even though many luxuries like flush toilets, hot showers, and even a camp store are just steps away. No need to bring ice or firewood; the camp provides them at an added reasonable cost (but bring an axe to help break up the logs in case the wood is damp or fresh). Bring a grill-top for the firepit if you plan to cook. Keep in mind that the campsites are not very large; ask AJ when you book if your tent will fit. There's plenty to do in the area: Hike Crabtree Falls, taste beers at Devil's Backbone or Blue Mountain Breweries, enjoy ciders at Bold Rock, and next time we'll try the distilleries. Crabtree Falls is definitely my favorite campground in all of Virginia!

We always stay in the cabins (which is dog friendly) and they are always clean and super cozy. We have only stayed during the fall since there is no A/C but I can tell you that during the cooler nights the base board heat keeps you very warm. The constant sound of the creek right outside your window is soothing and a great change from a busy life. There is absolutely NO cell service so be prepared for that. Some super sweet camp cats! Fritz and Valerie are accommodating hosts, even suggesting some fun activities for the kiddos- like blueberry picking near by! We took our family photos at the river, spent time catching crawfish and minnows during the day, and fireflies at night. We forgot a few items and Fritz and Valerie happened to have them around. The bathrooms were clean, the water hot, hookups available for electric and water. Altogether a lovely spot for our family to gather and enjoy immersing ourselves in nature.

We were put at site #8, though they called it #9. It was literally right by the side of the house, in the yard with the office not 10 feet from us. But if you're in for fishing, kayaking and/or tubing, this would be a good place to put in or as a destination pull out.
