    The pool! Steps from Rockwood

Cabin Rockwood Perfect. Everything about our entire stay was absolutely perfect. From the cabin, to the pool, to the activities we did in the area and the people there who guided us. Peter and Julia do a fantastic job as caretakers, although we barely saw them until we needed something and then they were right there! They packed us enough food for an army on our kayak trip at Sherando Lake (we paddled around and then to the island and just laid in the sun, it was amazing) and the hiking backpack provided was stocked with everything we needed as we hiked Crabtree Falls. Horseback riding at Star B Stables was probably our highlight and Carl was so funny and nice. The only downside to Rockwood cabin was the stairs when you're unloading the car but we didn't mind at all once we saw how close we were to the pool! One night as we lazed around in the pool after hiking and kayaking, a baby deer came to the top of the ridge and watched us for about 5 minutes as the sun went down. Everything was just magical here! I have told everyone I know about your place and I will return as often as I can. Thank you for an amazing girls weekend trip!

    Review Highlights - Cabin Creekwood

The highlights of our stay were the hike to the top of Crabtree Falls, the beach fun at Sherando Lake and the visit to Wild Wolf Brewery for dinner and corn hole.

What a hidden gem! I went to Iris as a solo getaway for the evening (last Thursday), traveling from…read moreNorthern VA (the concrete jungle) and stayed in Cabin #4. It was gorgeous. It was super clean, with a nice, cozy bed and comfortable, bougie amenities, including the shower you'd see at the St. Regis (open shower with a rain showerhead and sprayer). The private hot tub on the deck overlooking the mountains is gorgeous. I watched the sunset from my deck. I also discovered there's a washer/dryer in there in addition to a microwave and a fridge. So it's like a bougie version of a Residence Inn. Also, since I'm in my own cabin, I didn't hear anything from the outside unless I was outside. The property is beautiful. It has some small on-site hiking trails that take about 20-30 minutes. The clubhouse has an AMAZING chef-cooked breakfast in the morning that's included in your stay rate, and the on-site manager is so nice. They also put sparkling water and Fiji water in your fridge for free. You're also near the cute town of Staunton, which has gift shops, glass art (and glassblowing if you want to try), a historic railway, a high point city view (Sears Bridge), book shops, and restaurants/cafes. It's good to spend a few hours. There's no dinner on-site at the inn, but I went to the nearby Blue Mountain Brewery, which gets very popular. I hope you have a wonderful time here, and I HIGHLY recommend it.

Buyer beware - sharp business practices…read more My wife and I booked the Iris Inn for two nights through Expedia. The Inn's listing on Expedia said it was "dog friendly." Great, right? Not really. The Inn sent a message through Expedia saying that the room I booked didn't accommodate pets, but that they had more expensive rooms that did and would I want to switch to one of those rooms? Ok, I get it. Bait and switch. The problem is, the message went right to my spam folder. Never had a chance to see it and I never responded. That's where it was left for over two months until "Linda" called me up several weeks before the reservation - ostensibly to ask for a credit card for incidentals. I have the voicemail. I thought this was a bit unusual, asking for a credit card weeks beforehand for incidentals. In her voicemail she never mentioned anything about the pet issue, and she never mentioned anything it when I calked her back and spoke to her. Why? She knew I had not replied to her Expedia message. Why didn't she mention it? Why not "by the way, did you see the message we sent?" And she obviously had my phone number - she called me - why didn't she follow up that Expedia message with a simple phone call? The day of check-in I searched my email for the check-in instructions and only then did I see the Expedia message about the room I booked not accepting pets. I called in a panic. Linda explains their pet friendly rooms are sold out. So there I am, hours from home, with my dog, and nowhere to stay. And so I was forced to cancel the reservation, and Linda and the Iris Inn gladly took the $846 for the forced cancellation. That's almost a grand down the drain. For the love of God all she needed to do was SAY SOMETHING. So as you're thinking about where to spend your money, remember my experience. I'm just a normal person that lost $846 to this place when all they needed to do was say something about pets in the room I booked when they had me on the phone weeks before my booking. This is the kind of place the Iris Inn is. This is the kind of person "Linda the innkeeper" is. You have a choice to reward good behavior with your dollars or bad. It's your choice.

Will not stay here again. After reading some reviews, I thought this hotel would fit my needs but…read moreit did not deliver at all. The room was okay and the bathroom was mostly clean. Check-in was simple and the attendant was very kind to me. Okay, the reason for this review: There are obviously people living here. While relaxing in my room, there was someone loitering outside in their car with the music blaring. I was trying to nap and could not because of this. I had to message management through two apps before someone put a stop to it. This person stayed outside, near my room, all day and made me uneasy. Later in the evening and early morning, I could hear a television being played loudly and people talking and yelling. I booked this located for the affordability and continental breakfast. There was hardly a breakfast. It was individually wrapped muffins and maybe bagels (I can't remember). I do recall that the juice machine was out of order and the coffee did not look appetizing. So, overall, I would not recommend this location unless you absolutely have no other choice.

All rooms are smoke free which is fine by me (there is a notice that any smoking will result in a $300 charge). Got to the room and it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. The smoke detector was covered with a plastic bag that had been taped in place. Trash on the floor. Hole in the wall that was plugged with a tissue so no one could peek in. Refrigerator did not work. Breakfast used to be really good. Moved to a small counter in the lobby and was bare bones. Juice machine leaking water covering the floor in front of it (was like that when we checked in and still like that when we checked out this morning). Cancelling our reservation for July and staying somewhere else.
