What a hidden gem! I went to Iris as a solo getaway for the evening (last Thursday), traveling from Northern VA (the concrete jungle) and stayed in Cabin #4. It was gorgeous. It was super clean, with a nice, cozy bed and comfortable, bougie amenities, including the shower you'd see at the St. Regis (open shower with a rain showerhead and sprayer). The private hot tub on the deck overlooking the mountains is gorgeous. I watched the sunset from my deck. I also discovered there's a washer/dryer in there in addition to a microwave and a fridge. So it's like a bougie version of a Residence Inn. Also, since I'm in my own cabin, I didn't hear anything from the outside unless I was outside. The property is beautiful. It has some small on-site hiking trails that take about 20-30 minutes. The clubhouse has an AMAZING chef-cooked breakfast in the morning that's included in your stay rate, and the on-site manager is so nice. They also put sparkling water and Fiji water in your fridge for free. You're also near the cute town of Staunton, which has gift shops, glass art (and glassblowing if you want to try), a historic railway, a high point city view (Sears Bridge), book shops, and restaurants/cafes. It's good to spend a few hours. There's no dinner on-site at the inn, but I went to the nearby Blue Mountain Brewery, which gets very popular. Buyer beware - sharp business practices My wife and I booked the Iris Inn for two nights through Expedia. The Inn's listing on Expedia said it was "dog friendly." Great, right? Not really. The Inn sent a message through Expedia saying that the room I booked didn't accommodate pets, but that they had more expensive rooms that did and would I want to switch to one of those rooms? Ok, I get it. Bait and switch. The problem is, the message went right to my spam folder. Never had a chance to see it and I never responded. That's where it was left for over two months until "Linda" called me up several weeks before the reservation - ostensibly to ask for a credit card for incidentals. I have the voicemail. I thought this was a bit unusual, asking for a credit card weeks beforehand for incidentals. In her voicemail she never mentioned anything about the pet issue, and she never mentioned anything it when I calked her back and spoke to her. Why? She knew I had not replied to her Expedia message. Why didn't she mention it? Why not "by the way, did you see the message we sent?" And she obviously had my phone number - she called me - why didn't she follow up that Expedia message with a simple phone call? The day of check-in I searched my email for the check-in instructions and only then did I see the Expedia message about the room I booked not accepting pets. I called in a panic. Linda explains their pet friendly rooms are sold out. So there I am, hours from home, with my dog, and nowhere to stay. And so I was forced to cancel the reservation, and Linda and the Iris Inn gladly took the $846 for the forced cancellation. That's almost a grand down the drain. For the love of God all she needed to do was SAY SOMETHING. So as you're thinking about where to spend your money, remember my experience. I'm just a normal person that lost $846 to this place when all they needed to do was say something about pets in the room I booked when they had me on the phone weeks before my booking. This is the kind of place the Iris Inn is. This is the kind of person "Linda the innkeeper" is. You have a choice to reward good behavior with your dollars or bad. It's your choice. read more

Overall, we had a decent experience, though it didn't quite meet our expectations given the price point. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, which we appreciated, and the cabin itself was lovely with a picturesque view of the Shenandoah. We did encounter a few issues during our stay -- particularly with the cleanliness of the cabin and some unclear communication around charges. While we appreciated the staff's quick efforts to resolve these matters, they were problems that could have been easily avoided with more attention to detail. Breakfast is included from 8-10am, which is a nice touch, but we wished the hours were extended a bit earlier to accommodate early risers. It would also be great to see a bit more variety in the breakfast offerings -- perhaps more than one option per food group. Helpful tips for future guests: - Bring a sleep mask. All windows have blackout shades except for the large, wall-to-wall view window, which only has a sheer covering. The morning sun is beautiful but will definitely wake you up early! - Bring earplugs. There's some light noise from nearby cars, and the appliances can be a bit noisy at night. read more

I cannot wait to return. Iris Inn & Cabins exceeded my expectations. I didn't know what to expect when I arrived and was a guest there but I know it was not what I received. The customer service is spot on. The atmosphere is intimate. I was referred to by my name each time I was seen walking the property. My food always arrived fresh to my door. I really enjoyed the balcony view, the calm and quaint atmosphere. I really enjoyed myself and again...I CANNOT wait to return. *my ONLY suggestion would be to take earplugs with you if you stay in the main house. My husband and I visited the Iris Inn for 4 nights for our honeymoon. We have nothing but wonderful things to say. Between the personalized touches to the rooms, to the amazing communication from the staff, everything was absolutely perfect during our stay. The Innkeepers check on you before they head home for the night via text, and are very responsive and quick to fulfill any needs you may have. The restaurant at the Inn was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried. The portion sizes are pretty large though, so most dishes are perfect for sharing. Our entire stay we heard almost zero noise from within our room, which I thought was nice as most places I've stayed you can hear every footstep or movement from your neighbors. Everything about the Inn made us feel right at home. Lastly, it's within a 10-20 minute drive of grocery stores, parks, trails, restaurants, coffee shops, etc., making for a super convenient location. It's far enough back from the highway to not hear too much traffic. We will definitely be back! Our only regret is not staying longer! read more

We came to the Iris Inn for a weekend getaway after the craziness of the holidays. While the "bed" part is lovely and luxurious, the "breakfast" needs some major work. Lets start with some positives. The cabins are really nice and well appointed with some luxury items like a heated bathroom floor, a relaxing shower with duel shower heads, a screened in porch complete with a large hot tub, and a warming electric fireplace that adds a romantic vibe to the room. There are also automatic blinds for the large windows facing the view. The view is not bad - but not great either. The website shows much better views. We had in room massages that were a nice added bonus to our relaxing weekend. Now for some cons... We wish the bedding was more luxurious to match the rest of the cabin. The pillows are hard as rocks and the sheets are ok. Some soft king pillows would be a huge upgrade!!! Also, we had some tech issues. If you're going to offer a DVD player with smart capabilities - then make sure it's connected to the internet. People want their Netflix and Chill on vacation. Ok now let's talk breakfast. I appreciate that you can order anything from the menu. Most b&bs have a set menu and you don't have a choice. But, the food just isn't that good. The "eggs Benedict" is not what you would expect - a fried egg on top of on a croissant with a pungent Parmesan cream sauce. The waffle was undercooked and French toast soggy. Scrambled eggs and bacon tasted microwaved. With a few improvements, I think the breakfast could be much better. Also, the hours for breakfast are 8:00-9:30. Who wants to get up that early on a weekend away? Breakfast should go until at least 10. Side note about Waynesboro: there are not many good places to eat in town and hardly any delivery options to the cabin. Overall, with the premium we paid (this place is pricey) we don't feel we got our money's worth. Hopefully, the owners will take some notes from our review for future guests!! read more

Our stay at Iris Inn was perfect! The owner/manager were so pleasant and helpful before, during, and after our stay. We wanted the privacy of a Airbnb with the perks of a luxury hotel and we felt this was exactly what we got at Iris Inn. We chose Cabin #5 and loved the quiet and privacy the wooded setting provided. The screened in porch and the hot tub area were exactly what we hoped for! We absolutely loved the rocking chairs and the table on the screened porch. (The manager even shared a link for similar ones for our porch at home after we left!) We visited in the summer and found the the trees do block out a lot of the sunset view, but it can easily be seen from one of the Iris Inn's many decks or chairs around the fire pits. Our cabin was immaculately clean. I'm very picky and found the indoor and outdoor spaces to be impeccable. There were so many well thought out features for comfort and utility - plenty of glassware options, bedside reading lamps, dimmable recessed lighting, floor-to-ceiling blinds, heated bathroom floors, exterior sliding door from the hot tub right into the rain shower, super soft linens, remote-controlled heating/air (yes you can change the room temp from bed!) and so many more. The breakfast basket and delicious coffee (we paid for them to deliver morning coffee service but there is a Keurig as well). The breakfast experience truly enhanced our stay. We looked forward to see what unique and flavorful dishes were delivered each morning and were never disappointed. From asparagus and bacon quiche and stuffed pancakes, to cherry danish waffles and sausage and egg puffed pastries - each dish was original and incredible. They also serve their amazing breakfast buffet with a mimosa bar in the lobby. We will 100% be back and are already looking at our calendar to try to plan a long weekend this fall. They paid attention to detail and had everything we ordered delivered on time. You are able to select what you want the day before. We're from Maryland and we ordered the crab cakes and shrimp cakes for dinner. They were the BEST we've ever had so that says it all. My husband and I were here celebrating our 26th anniversary. The first time we stayed at The Iris Inn, it was six years ago to attend a funeral, and I told my mom I wanted to stay somewhere special because my grandma had dementia and it was important for us to have memories together and for her to experience life to the fullest. We had a great time and stayed in the main lodge--the room we booked had the cutest little "secret room" (I think it was the Woodland room) that I stayed in and grandma enjoyed looking at the art and other details of the lodge. Some of the pictures I posted are of that time period, before the remodel. My husband and I stayed again in May and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly in the Hawk's Nest cottage. The hot tub is great (as is typical) and it's so nice to have a kitchen and the little faux fireplace for ambiance. Being near the woods is peaceful and calming and the property is welcoming and simple, yet beautiful. So...breakfast is delivered to your door in a basket and there's a note in it that says not to take the Mason jars or you'll be charged. So of course I thought, who in the world would take the jars? There were yogurt in the jars and I could not finish my breakfast, so while I was in the shower, my husband asked me if I wanted to take the parfait for the road, so I said sure. Well of course I realized once I packed them what I was doing--taking the Mason jars! LOL! I guess they aren't really Mason jars so you don't think about it. But don't fall into that trap! The only negative is that I feel their smoking policy is a little harsh when you can't even vape on the property. Vaping isn't a fire hazard but....their rules! Not a big deal for me, but it might be a deal breaker for some. It's a place that has simple, yet thoughtful little touches here and there. I haven't stayed in the cabins yet (they're way expensive) but maybe that'll be next year's trip! read more

This place is a gem. We have lived here for quite awhile. We never thought to look close for a quick getaway. We decided to give this a try for our anniversary because it was close and would be able to enjoy the beautiful fall season. The accommodations are truly awesome! We stayed in one of private cabins on the property. With stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley, this place doesn't disappoint. We loved waking up to the view. The hot tub on the deck is perfect for soaking after a day of trail hiking or driving to the local wineries. The breakfast basket is such a nice touch. To not have to leave your room, it offers privacy as well as convenience after a long night. We enjoyed our coffee and morning views. The kitchen and food options are wonderful. It's small and cozy in the dining room, but this allows the staff to provide stellar service and attention. Dessert is delicious too! Additionally, there are so many places to sit and enjoy the Inn and all the views. Finally, if you decide to stay at the Inn, you must book a spa appointment. We both had one of the Hot stone massages and were blown away. It truly was what we needed to completely relax. The little suite is just for you, and makes the whole experience special. With a shower, a tub, changing room, and heated table. It's lovely. We highly recommend checking this gem out! I know we will return very soon! read more

My husband and I booked a weekend getaway at the Iris Inn to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary and baby-moon. The Inn itself is beautiful, warm and homey. The Innkeepers, Dave and Heidi are such friendly and nice people. They and the staff were super attentive to all of our needs - we were constantly being asked if we needed anything and we felt catered to the whole time we were there. While we would have loved to stay in one of the cottages or cabins, unfortunately everything was booked up so we ended up in the Wildflower room in the main inn - no complaints there! The room was super clean and spacious with three large windows overlooking the second-floor deck and provides a lovely view of the mountain-scape in the distance. The king-sized bed was a little challenging for my 7-month pregnant self to get in and out of (it was a bit high), but the bed was extremely comfortable with luxurious linens and pillows. The shower is the crown jewel of the room - it's a two person shower with incredible pressure and multiple shower heads- I could have spent hours in there just relaxing! After enjoying a very relaxing night in the comfortable room, we were blown away by the incredible food! The Iris Inn really knocks the "breakfast" part of "bed and breakfast" out of the park. The chef is definitely highly trained: my omelettes were perfect, the veggies tasted so fresh and local. The belgian waffles with fresh whipped cream and french toast were AMAZING-possibly the best I've ever had, and the homemade granola was to die for. They also offer an array of fresh squeezed juices. After breakfast we headed out to Skyline drive for a hike at Jones Runs Falls, which was beautiful. We chose to bring a packed lunch from the Iris Inn which they packed in an insulated tote that contained everything we needed to have a lovely picnic by the falls. When we were done with our hike, we couldn't wait to get back to the comfortable room to relax some more. This was an unforgettable trip- if we have the chance we'd love to go back! read more

We have had the pleasure of visiting the Iris Inn twice! The cabins are gorgeous, and have everything you could possibly want--a spacious seating area with a large TV, a full service kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and a full set of dishes.) The bathroom (with heated floor!) features a luxe spa shower that walks out to the hot tub on the screened porch. Relaxing on the porch with its fantastic view and listening to nature--is one of the most relaxing experiences that I've had at a resort. We had a bottle of wine and charcuterie waiting in our refrigerator for us, and the "bed and breakfast" package includes a picnic basket filled with the best breakfast and a carafe of the best hot coffee. All this, plus there is a wonderful trail for walking around the property, and this lovely Inn is located close to all of the Shenandoah Valley attractions. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this beauty yet! Reserving online was fairly easy and they have a lot of packages to choose from. We chose the Sip n' Saddle package that included a horseback ride, a complimentary tasting at the King Family Vineyard, a bottle of wine when you arrive, and free breakfast everyday of your stay. My husband and I decided to go here for our honeymoon during the last week of October. We went to Italy the year before so we wanted to stay sort of local (3-4 hr drive) because traveling can get super tiring. I knew of someone who already had been and I've read reviews as well. The Iris Inn met and exceeded our expectations! We had the Hawk's nest cottage and as you walk inside, on the left, there's a cute little kitchen area where you can cook if you want and they had a coffee maker, a full size refrigerator and microwave too. In the cabinets, they provided cooking utensils and some basic seasoning. Although, we didn't take advantage of cooking, it was nice to know that we had the option and also to microwave any leftovers that we had from eating out or getting take out. To the right, is the sitting area with couch and a recliner in front of a tv. Next the the recliner, there was a little gas fireplace that added a nice touch! This was also my husband's favorite spot. On the couch, they had binder that welcomed us and had instructions on our stay and how to use the hot tub. Yes!! They have a hot tub and it was amazingly relaxing to just sit in there while it was below 50s outside. We liked how even though we were outside facing the woods, there are privacy fences surrounding the sides of us. The bathroom is my dream bathroom without the bathtub that I would want. It had a two-person steam shower, a dual sink and heated floors (that we never learned how to control)! We stayed there for a total of 6 days and 5 nights and for most of the mornings, we had breakfast at their dining area. It was not buffet style, it was dine in and the servers/workers are so pleasant. They had a coffee and tea station that is self served. They also serve juice too if you want. Their weekly special for certain days that week was either the pumpkin spiced pancakes or the waffles with strawberry and whipped cream on top. Oh my...the pancakes were to die for. They were fluffy and moist and tasted heavenly with the right amount of sweetness! The waffles were good too and very filling. Aside from the specials, they had their usual items like their parfait, omelet, etc. We tried to get something different every morning and with each dish, we were not disappointed. Overall, our stay was perfect, the room was very clean, the food was great, and the people that work here are very nice and helpful! I recommend this bed and breakfast 100%. read more

Just left the beautiful Iris Inn and already can't wait to go back! We stayed in the Woodland Room in the Main Inn and it was fantastic. Well appointed, clean, and the bed was amazing! We did the B&B Experience and it was well worth it! The bottle of wine and cheese plate that awaited us when we arrived was on point, and breakfast that was delivered to our door step every morning was delicious. (The almond pastry was out of this world!) We ate dinner at the inn one night and were blown away by the short ribs and the filet oscar.
