    Breakfast Porch

My best friend got married in Charlottesville in Aug '09; her parents, herself, and myself all stayed at the Dinsmore. The Dinsmore was extremely accomodating, quaint, and service-oriented. I loved my room; from their website it seemed that it would be on the smaller side, but it was plenty big. The bathroom let in a lot of natural light, the towels were fluffy, and the antique furniture was in good condition. Morning of the wedding I had a wonderful french toast breakfast with the bride; and I'm so glad I was able to be there for her on such a special day. They also did a light luncheon for the mothers and bridesmaids which was very intimate and fun. The location is prime for its proximity to the University and the "Corner." Ask a Cavalier what the Corner is if you don't already know. I really loved this bed and breakfast, it's definitely one of my favorites; I would stay here over any other bed and breakfast in the Charlottesville area.

2 words for why this place is so awesome, Mark and Mary.......ok, maybe 3 words. But they seriously made our experience at The Dinsmore House amazing! This was our first time staying at a B&B, so we weren't sure what to expect, but whatever expectations we had were far exceeded. Room: We stayed in the Dinsmore Room which was awesome! It had a king size bed, and a sofa. The bathroom was nice and had a shower and separate tub. The room also had cable tv and a dvd player and there is wifi in the house. Breakfast: We stayed there for 3 nights, so we got to experience 3 different breakfasts and enjoyed each of them. The first morning we had a tuscan strata which was AMAZING and definitely our favorite breakfast. The next morning we had Eggs Benedict and the last morning we had a Peach French Toast, which we enjoyed as well. Each breakfast started off with fruit or parfait and along with the breakfast dish came thick sliced bacon. It also included coffee and orange juice. It was so nice getting up every morning and coming down and having breakfast served. Other perks: Each afternoon from 4-6 they had social hour where they sat out cheese and crackers and offered a glass of wine. It was a cool time to relax and get to know the other guests and Mark and Mary. Also, each evening they sat out milk and cookies which was an awesome way to end the day. I highly recommend coming to the Dinsmore House to stay. The accommodations are great, but the company of Mark and Mary are even better. They really love what they do and are so helpful and sweet. I can't wait to go back to see them again!

Incredible!!! We're staying in the Veranda Room and it is GORGEOUS! Mark and Mary have been amazing hosts-- very attentive and helpful, and suuuper congenial :) For breakfast this morning, we're having the greatest French toast I've tasted (sorry, fiancé), served by the delightful innkeepers and their fellow staff member :) I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking to stay ON UVA's campus who doesn't necessarily want a "stuffy hotel" experience. This place is wonderful!

Our room had two bathrooms and a sitting area. Wonderfully decorated.

Very much enjoyed our weekend at the Dinsmore House. The staff was so accommodating. Wonderful service and so enjoyed speaking to the innkeeper - she is delightful. Highly recommend!

Our room...I think it was #2

Several of the amenities were not available, the property was run down and dirty. After we arrived at the Glade cabin we walked down the property to see what it had to offer. We noticed our cabin did not have a washer and dryer in it as described and didn'tfind the communal area laundry to use. There was no map provided and no signage to guide what areas were private and for public use. We came upon the wood burning sauna and I gasped when i opened the door. It was run down, super rustic and it honestly reminded me of a crematorium. Next to that was the cool dip pool which was not in working order and not listed as that on the rental description. Several reviews seem like the pool hasnt been in use for a few years. We then walked up to the "castle" on a narrow foot bridge and at the top were what seemed to be two drunk men who claimed they lived there. They were blocking the walkway, and to get around them was awkward. They asked us how we found this place and why we were there. Something didn't sit right with that encounter, so we continued walking instead of going inside to see the communal area. We went back to our cabin and never used the rest of the property after that. It did not seem eco friendly either. The property seems to be in a constant state of construction that other things get overlooked and unkempt. The glade cabin was just ok. It was secluded which was a plus. It seemed clean however there was a strong musty smell throughout. No cleaning supplies offered. The cabin had an ant problem inside and a bee problem outside of the entry doors. Both doors were hard to lock from inside. The main door leading to the kitchen had quite a large gap between it and the frame causing an easy way for insects to get in. The keypad was also not working properly and had a constant noise coming from it which was annoying while trying to sleep. The furniture was old and not comfortable. It did have good wifi and was able to stream on the TV. The lightning was very dim inside, and although it had a lot of lights it was still dark. Im not sure how this property keeps getting good reviews, but i did find quite a few similar to mine. On TripAdvisor there is also mention of this being a nudist camp which was not mentioned in any of the rental descriptions. That, and the non working pool and sauna alone would have made me not book in the first place. Again misleading and unsettling. It is close to the national park which is why we originally chose this place. We spent as much time away from it as possible and only returned to sleep. We did not once see any employees or property managers. I would caution anyone to rethink booking here.

There's truly something for everyone, whether you're looking to relax or explore. The property also has a hot tub, a cold plunge, and dry sauna and you can books massages, cooking classes and yoga classes on the property! So many other unique touches throughout -- you can really feel how much thought has gone into creating a serene and welcoming space. You can do as much or as little as you want here, and that flexibility makes it feel like your retreat. Can't recommend it enough. I am already dreaming about our next stay later this year!

Each breakfast started with a fresh cut fruit cup, baked good, juice, and coffee. We requested a savory main course, so we also had a small sweet dish to finish. Brigitte was mindful of our dietary preferences and did not disappoint with presentation or service. The Inn is conveniently located only a few miles from downtown and several hiking trails. When we finally decided on this hotel, mainly because it was halfway to our final destination of Pennsylvania, and it looked quite interesting, I had trouble booking through their webpage. Maybe you can blame it on me? I just couldn't quite get the system to accept the "check in--checkout" dates. So I gave them a call and booked through a representative located in Las Vegas Vegas. Everything went smoothly. She was very friendly and accommodating. We actually loved the curvy roads leading up to the winery and hotel. That portion of the trip would've been better in our roadster for sure! We were checked in by a friendly gentleman named Thomas. He gave us a room next to the outdoor pool. Finishings kind of reminded us a little bit of the accommodations. It was peacefully decorated, and mostly comfortable except for the couch. We were only using it to lounge in and something more comfortable would have been desirable. I took advantage of the dry sauna and hot tub, which was a short walk across the parking lot. We tried to take advantage of the grounds by walking around the small lake and through the fields. If they were in a dedicated walking trails, we didn't find them! We took a tour of the main house and enjoyed our French inspired continental breakfast, though croissants would've been a nice touch! The vistas from the winery and the hotel are quite spectacular! If you're looking for boutique or personalized lodging with beautiful surroundings, this may work for you!

Yes, that would have worked, but I also would have missed the experience here. Being off season one cannot take in all the amenities like the pool, some of the outdoor activities, and just the ability to lounge or otherwise enjoy the surrounds while staying here. However, it still turned out to be a great experience. You need to pass through a double gate to get to the lobby. The first one would take you to the Trump Winery and the second one to the Estate itself. Yes, it is still a hotel, but it feels like a country club from start to finish. The place is small enough where they, for the most part, go off your name. Dinner reservation? Okay, here is your table. Done? There is no tab (or tip for that matter). Yes, you still need to pay for it, but it just goes on your room bill seamlessly. Want something? Just ask. From the tiny two-seat bar to anything else, service is pretty personal here. For dinner the ESTATE SALAD - Arcadian green mix topped with tomato, watermelon radish, goat cheese and golden beets dressed with Trump Blanc de Blanc vinaigrette, was amazing. My main of DUCK - Pan roasted medium-rare duck breast with cherry port wine sauce, honey glazed rainbow carrots, wild rice pilaf with estate grown herbs, was the best duck I have had in a very long time. Plus, having a flight of Trump wine (white in this case) gave me a preview of the winery I would get to tomorrow. The Viognier I found to be the surprise interest out of the four I tried.

We easily hiked our way around town during our one night's stay here. The owners are like super cool parents that you wish knew when you were a kid. They had cabinets stocked with organic and/or fair trade coffee/hot chocolate. There was locally baked bread which I really made a dent into plus jams and jellies for your convenience. Local eggs were also available so we made a quick scramble with toast in the morning. The ONLY reason I gave this guesthouse 4 stars and not 5 stars is that your experience is mostly based on the other guests here. It was a full house on this particular evening/morning and being that's it is a house and not a hotel, the walls are a bit thin and you can hear everything! The couple in the room next to ours chatted into the wee hours and were up early showering (I woke up at 6:45 am to someone showering in the shared bathroom across the hall - it's a shared bathroom which is only an issue if you need to go wee when someone is showering, like in my case). The other room, occupied by two women, chatted loudly the entire time in the kitchen starting at around 9am, so there was no hope of getting additional sleep. Checkout is 11am so we finally took advantage of our bread and eggs breakfast in the hour before we left. Would definitely come back here in the hopes we had quieter roommates!
