Modern Elegance meets Bed & Breakfast. Beautiful home. Breakfast at 9am. We Loved the Madison suite. Great location

We prefer a bed & breakfast to a hotel when it's possible and places like this are why! First, it's a great location. We were doing part of our History Nerd Tour in Virginia (Monticello, Highland, Montpelier). It's a short drive to everything in Charlottesville, including the Michie Tavern, established around 1784. Dave greeted us at the door and made us feel welcome right away. He gave us all the details we needed for the B&B (door codes, hours for breakfast, etc) The room was wonderful. We got the Mazzei room that has a California king bed and a jacuzzi. The room also has beautiful view of the sunrise. Upon entering we noticed a small bottle of sweet wine and two gourmet chocolates. The mini fridge was stocked with water, soda & a bottle of sparkling wine. The bed was one the most comfortable I've ever slept on. The house overall is very welcoming. There are ice, snacks, silverware, napkins, books, menus to area restaurants all in the Barrel Room. We stayed two nights which meant two breakfasts. Both were amazing. The first morning, we started with apple cinnamon cake, then had scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon and fresh fruit. The next morning the starter was a Greek yogurt parfait followed by banana-macadamia pancakes and sausage. All of this great food comes with fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh coffee. I'd go back just for the breakfast. My only issue was the binder with info on local restaurants. We picked one not realizing the menu was a little old and the place was part of a regional chain we weren't familiar with. We asked Dave for a personal recommendation and the place he sent us to was great. We will definitely return!

Wow what a gem. The people here are so nice and our room was so charming. Enjoyed a great nights sleep in our cozy bed! Our morning started with the most aromatic cup of coffee while overlooking the vineyard. Followed by a charming breakfast before we headed out for our day. The chocolates and wine at bed time weren't to bad either. Totally will be back here again. Such a nice place to unplug and unwind.

The bathroom is shared and the walls are thinnish so if the other guests are noisy and/or incontinent you may not have the best experience, but I was fortunate to be staying here during a quiet holiday time. Breakfast is diy and pretty simple (bread for toasting, fruit, oats, butter, jams, honey, eggs) but the ingredients are fresh and good quality. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk and filtered water. The house is plant-filled, sustainable (recycling and composting!), green and clean. It could do with a bit of sprucing up, but for $75 a night, who cares? It's excellent value for money. Raven and Flame are wonderful communicative hosts.

We easily hiked our way around town during our one night's stay here. The owners are like super cool parents that you wish knew when you were a kid. They run an environmentally-friendly home decked out with art by Flame (all available for purchase). They compost, recycle and only use reusable towels. They had cabinets stocked with organic and/or fair trade coffee/hot chocolate. There was locally baked bread which I really made a dent into plus jams and jellies for your convenience. Local eggs were also available so we made a quick scramble with toast in the morning. The ONLY reason I gave this guesthouse 4 stars and not 5 stars is that your experience is mostly based on the other guests here. It was a full house on this particular evening/morning and being that's it is a house and not a hotel, the walls are a bit thin and you can hear everything! The couple in the room next to ours chatted into the wee hours and were up early showering (I woke up at 6:45 am to someone showering in the shared bathroom across the hall - it's a shared bathroom which is only an issue if you need to go wee when someone is showering, like in my case). The other room, occupied by two women, chatted loudly the entire time in the kitchen starting at around 9am, so there was no hope of getting additional sleep. Checkout is 11am so we finally took advantage of our bread and eggs breakfast in the hour before we left. Would definitely come back here in the hopes we had quieter roommates!

It was the most affordable compared to other venues, most beautiful, and we have the luxury of staying the weekend and relaxing with our family! The house is amazing, and the soy crops outside mixed with the trees really sold it for us. Not only did we love the venue, but we also felt warm and welcomed by Annmarie. Since the moment we booked she has been a great communicator and we feel like she is really listening to our needs. Not the "corporate" feel if you will. We also did our save the dates at the venue with their photographer! They turned out AMAZING! It was so fun and taking pictures with the horses really made them feel so much more magical. We are booked for May and I could not be more excited! Also just to add- they had so many options to help with vendors, which helped us pick our caterer! It's so much less stress than I imagined because they are SO helpful! I am so excited about our wedding and could not recommend this venue enough!

We never ran into the owner until just before leaving on the second day, but felt at home the whole time. We will definitly be back again the next time we are in the area, it is definitley a home away from home kind of place and was a great value for quality of accomodations. The only downfall is that it is cash or check only...no cc travel points for me on this stay.

I booked my stay in the New York Suite 8 months in advance, and was so pleased to be welcome back as a VIP platinum guest. I had a lovely custom tailored gift basket awaiting me on my very comfortable bed upon arrival. How magical it was to see 2 blue heron's as well as geese and Hawks! And Hudson the labradoodle is no longer a pup. He is a charmingly well behaved two-year-old dog! Our dining options were simply delicious! Whether it was homemade breakfast with biscuits or an afternoon barbecue while watching the Redskins football game, it was all topped off with Smore's at the fire pit with a view of the lake at sunset. First off, every interaction from booking to check out was full of kindness and going above and beyond. When the owners found out we were celebrating a birthday, T excitedly said she'd "birthday bomb" the room. That she did! Full of decorations and balloons, it was a beautiful way to celebrate. Then, after chatting with Jim, the chef, he learned that the birthday boy loved lamb and offered to make that special (we signed up for the five course meal). The five courses we had were so worth the cost. Not only were portions huge, but everything we were given was absolutely delicious. I'll dream of that filet mignon for a while. The three course breakfasts were also amazing, made extra special by selecting one of their tons of options of flavored lattes. I couldn't recommend staying here more. In addition, the grounds were gorgeous and well kept. We'll be back next year! Thank you Jim and T for making everything so special.

Several of the amenities were not available, the property was run down and dirty. After we arrived at the Glade cabin we walked down the property to see what it had to offer. We noticed our cabin did not have a washer and dryer in it as described and didn'tfind the communal area laundry to use. There was no map provided and no signage to guide what areas were private and for public use. We came upon the wood burning sauna and I gasped when i opened the door. It was run down, super rustic and it honestly reminded me of a crematorium. Next to that was the cool dip pool which was not in working order and not listed as that on the rental description. Several reviews seem like the pool hasnt been in use for a few years. We then walked up to the "castle" on a narrow foot bridge and at the top were what seemed to be two drunk men who claimed they lived there. They were blocking the walkway, and to get around them was awkward. They asked us how we found this place and why we were there. Something didn't sit right with that encounter, so we continued walking instead of going inside to see the communal area. We went back to our cabin and never used the rest of the property after that. It did not seem eco friendly either. The property seems to be in a constant state of construction that other things get overlooked and unkempt. The glade cabin was just ok. It was secluded which was a plus. It seemed clean however there was a strong musty smell throughout. No cleaning supplies offered. The cabin had an ant problem inside and a bee problem outside of the entry doors. Both doors were hard to lock from inside. The main door leading to the kitchen had quite a large gap between it and the frame causing an easy way for insects to get in. The keypad was also not working properly and had a constant noise coming from it which was annoying while trying to sleep. The furniture was old and not comfortable. It did have good wifi and was able to stream on the TV. The lightning was very dim inside, and although it had a lot of lights it was still dark. Im not sure how this property keeps getting good reviews, but i did find quite a few similar to mine. On TripAdvisor there is also mention of this being a nudist camp which was not mentioned in any of the rental descriptions. That, and the non working pool and sauna alone would have made me not book in the first place. Again misleading and unsettling. It is close to the national park which is why we originally chose this place. We spent as much time away from it as possible and only returned to sleep. We did not once see any employees or property managers. I would caution anyone to rethink booking here.

There's truly something for everyone, whether you're looking to relax or explore. The property also has a hot tub, a cold plunge, and dry sauna and you can books massages, cooking classes and yoga classes on the property! So many other unique touches throughout -- you can really feel how much thought has gone into creating a serene and welcoming space.
