Hidden gem in Charlottesville! First time here and really enjoyed the property and our meal. We were not aware that the executive chef has won a Michelin star with his previous restaurant in CA. The food was amazing! New favorite and will be coming back soon!

Staff not friendly or engaging with customers. Service in restaurant was poor. Food okay but not at Michelin star level Excessive noise from kitchen interferes with breakfast and sleeping in the rooms . The inn needs a thorough cleaning and overall upkeep

Delayed review, but I stayed here for a mini-moon last year and absolutely loved it! We stayed in The Farmhouse which was adorable and a short walk to the main lodging and restaurant. We did the loyalty package which included dinner and breakfast- both were amazing!! The service at the time was just ramping up from covid so it was a little slow, but still great. Definitely look forward to a return stay!

This review is for the 1799 restaurant, I can't gush enough about how amazing it was! We came here for a late Valentine's Dinner (2/15), which my fiance had explained the circumstance on the reservation. The staff decorated our table with rose petals and allowed us to use their pre-set Valentines' dinner menu. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. The chef gave us curry madeleines to try on the house. The foot itself was fantastic as well!! I didn't have a single bad bite of food. I will definitely be returning here for more anniversaries and date nights!!

Impeccable. That's the only word that describes our experience at The Clifton Inn. I don't want to leave but I have to. It's checkout time. I grew up in Charleston, SC, and lived in a carriage house at 69 1/2 Rutledge Avenue. It was close to colonial lake and was just a fabulous place to live. I moved because the owner sold the house and the new owners wanted to maximize the rent. Anyway, back to The Clifton Inn. My husband and I decided this would be the year of Virginia, meaning we would get out and explore our awesome state. I booked The Clifton Inn after stalking their website. Michelin-starred chef, beautiful historic setting...I'm in. We had the honeymoon cottage...we've been married for 21 years so not a honeymoon but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My husband had to make me get out of bed on our last day to check out by 11. Ahhhh, I love this place. Food...we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here and everything was phenomenal. The oysters with the jalapeño minionette were stunning. We ate 4-5 servings of the oysters. The burger I had for lunch was THE BEST BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD. I'm 50+ years old so that's saying something. John was a fabulous bartender and our server for breakfast and lunch was awesome. Wish I could remember her name. Becky at dinner the first night was super. Staff was exceptional, food was out of this world and the accommodations were phenomenal. I will most definitely be back. Love the Clifton.

This review is for the 1799 restaurant. Beautiful setting and ambiance. Good service. Great Negroni Spritz cocktail. Interesting high end menu. Nice array of bread selection. The food was of high quality and well made with a pretty presentation. The flavors were tasty, although a little on the richer and saltier side.

Recently came here and had dinner down in the wine cellar. It was great to have an intimate dinner with friends to celebrate. Service was on point. They even let us stay a little later than we should bc the place was empty by time we left. The butternut squash soup was AMAZING! I could eat that all night. The NY steak a little over powered with peppercorn but the onion ring and mash potatoes were on point. Topped it off with the choc cake was was delicious. Really enjoyed the espresso martini and I could have been chugging all night. It's hard to find a place that does a good espresso martini and this place does it right. Def want to come back and try more items on the menu

This is probably one of the prettiest wedding venues I have been to. The house is historic and chic. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The ceremony was in the front of the house and the moubtain views were gorgeous. Cocktail hour was on the back porch and yard, which was spacious and beautifully decorated with string lights. The reception was in the tent. The tent was massive and had a giant dance floor which was a huge plus. The staff was so attentive. I'm sure this place was super pricey for a wedding, which would be the only downfall. It was definitely great to enjoy as a wedding guest!

Our dinner was amazing! Our server Caroline was wonderful and explained all the wonderful food options. I tired one of the drinks with a bubble on top. Corey did a great job showing us this delicious drink. Paty came to our table to make sure everything was tasting great and our experience was everything we hoped for. This place went above and beyond for their guests and the food was amazing. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

As succulent a salmon as you will ever catch!

After a few turns, we located it across the street from another similar hotel. It was close to, but before, check-in time. We were allowed to proceed up to the room anyway. This is one of the larger Homewood Suites I've stayed at. Most of them seem to be roughly the same size, though layouts differ. This one seemed about 50% bigger than usual. The parking lot was large also. They still had a masks-in-public-spaces policy (maybe due to local / state governments?) but it was only semi-observed. To their credit, breakfast seemed to be back to pre-pandemic normal - it was a buffet with most of what passed for regular items circa early 2020. I'd gotten accustomed to reduced selections over the past 18 months, but it was heartening to see this. We were only there one night, so we only enjoyed breakfast on Wednesday. Check in and check out were handled quickly. We had no issues with the room. Despite being adjacent to the elevator area, the room was quiet. The property was within a 10-minute drive of the University campus also. Restaurants and grocery stores were within walking distance, if needed. I'd gladly stay here again.

I had hoped that it would offer a high class experience, but it was just okay. The room had some minor aesthetic touches, but in substance was pretty standard. The entrance to the hotel felt a bit cramped, and the building seemed centered around the restaurant that didn't have much for me. The sheets caused some skin irritation, and I wish all hotels used the most hypoallergenic detergent available. From a service perspective, it was quite good. I was offered an early checkin and also took a late checkout, so I got a ton of time with the room. They also stored my luggage, including various baked goods, after I was done. So I got a lot of value out of the room. The question to me was how this hotel would compare to the others that are in downtown Charlottesville; would the experience be worth a bit more than the more standard Marriotts or various others. I was not convinced that it would be worth spending the extra money on.

It was nice to be walking distance from shops and restaurants, but it was also conveniently located close to a highway, which made driving to other places easy. I haven't stayed at many places that feel more like a five-star resort than this one. Driving up to the property felt like being in a car commercial, rolling hills, gorgeous scenery, and impeccable service waiting the moment we arrived. Check-in was seamless. We stayed in one of the rooms in the new wing, which was absolutely stunning. In 2017, the hotel completed a multi-year, $2 million renovation and expansion, and it shows in every detail. Our room overlooked the grounds and was part of the beautiful new addition. The room itself was spacious and elegant, with a wonderfully comfortable bed and a cozy nook perfect for reading or relaxing. The bathroom was equally luxurious and practically begged for a long shower. Waiting for us in the room was a handwritten note wishing us a wonderful mother-daughter trip, along with thoughtful gifts from the spa. Another nice touch: branded, reusable water bottles to use at the filling stations around the property. I loved this sustainability piece that doubles as a keepsake. During our stay, I walked the grounds, visited the spa, and toured the Southern Living Idea House which is on its ground, though honestly, this is the kind of hotel where simply staying on property feels like a vacation. Because we visited in winter, the pool was closed, but seeing it made me want to return in the spring. The fitness center was well appointed, the tennis court s and area were beautiful, and the championship golf course was gorgeous! I'm not a golfer, but I loved looking at this course from the mini windows and patios overlooking it! I'll share more about the spa in a separate review, but trust me, it is not to be missed. And the on-site restaurant, Marigold, is an absolute delight. Jean-Georges' effortless style comes through in both the ambiance and the food. We enjoyed two dinners and a brunch there, and I genuinely wish I could have eaten even more. Wow. Another standout perk is the fleet of BMWs available for guests to check out and explore the surrounding area. We chose to only venture out once, to Jefferson Vineyard, but there is plenty to explore in the greater Charlottesville area for those wanting more. In closing, this hotel is incredible! Perfectly styled and wonderfully relaxing. I will be thinking about it and my lovely time there for many years to come!

When we finally decided on this hotel, mainly because it was halfway to our final destination of Pennsylvania, and it looked quite interesting, I had trouble booking through their webpage. Maybe you can blame it on me? I just couldn't quite get the system to accept the "check in--checkout" dates. So I gave them a call and booked through a representative located in Las Vegas Vegas. Everything went smoothly. She was very friendly and accommodating. We actually loved the curvy roads leading up to the winery and hotel. That portion of the trip would've been better in our roadster for sure! We were checked in by a friendly gentleman named Thomas. He gave us a room next to the outdoor pool. Finishings kind of reminded us a little bit of the accommodations. It was peacefully decorated, and mostly comfortable except for the couch. We were only using it to lounge in and something more comfortable would have been desirable. I took advantage of the dry sauna and hot tub, which was a short walk across the parking lot. We tried to take advantage of the grounds by walking around the small lake and through the fields. If they were in a dedicated walking trails, we didn't find them!
