I had a very positive experience. The valet, Charlie, was pleasant upon check in. The staff at the front desk made the checkin and check out seamless. They even offered bottled water at the end of the experience; that was a very nice touch. The room is tidy and neat. I had a good night rest and would come again in my travels!

Bottom Line: Comfortable hotel in a great location with nods to Jefferson. My husband and I both really like the boutique and unique feel of Marriott Autograph Collection hotels so whenever there is one where we are traveling we stay in it. The Draftsman has all of the comforts of a modern hotel with decor inspired by colonial America and Monticello. We stayed in a basic King room but we found it to be very comfortable. The bed was comfy, the smart TV was a decent size, the room was quiet, the lighting provided a nice ambiance and the bathroom was well appointed. I liked the spa shower, large vanity and the C.O. Bigelow toiletries. The bathroom has a sliding barn door which is very stylish but doesn't afford as much privacy as a privy should! I really liked the decor of the hotel including in the rooms, lobby and library. It is definitely inspired by colonial America and Monticello but does not have an old or stuffy feel about it. In the lobby I especially liked the wallpaper and how the settee is accessible from multiple sides much like Jefferson's bed in Monticello. In the hotel room I really liked the two fabrics used on the curtains as well as the bathroom sconces. Also, its neat that each room has a draftsman table which I think makes a great bar or vanity. I appreciate a hotel with a nice gym and the Draftsman's is more than adequate. There are about 6 to 8 pieces of cardio equipment, a cable machine, medicine balls and open floor space. The gym is located on the top floor and you can also see UVA's Rotunda from the windows. One morning I saw two hot air balloons floating over the Rotunda which was neat. We also enjoyed a meal at the hotel's restaurant - Renewal. We enjoyed the bartender, our meal, the service and the decor. The Draftsman has a good location. There are lots of good restaurants within walking distance. The UVA Rotunda, The Corner and the Downtown Mall are also within walking distance. It was nice to be able to valet the car and then just explore on foot. Note that the Draftsman only offers valet parking. To explore beyond the immediately vicinity we retrieved the car and it only took the valet a few minutes to get it from the adjacent garage. The hotel is named for Virginia's three draftsman - Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, James Madison drafted the Constitution , and James Monroe drafted the Monroe Doctrine - a policy document opposing further European colonialism in the American colonies. Of course all these guys wrote lots of other stuff too! Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the Draftsman and would stay here again.

I will start with the positives: staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The restaurant attached to the hotel, although not Marriott owned, is excellent. To call this hotel part of the Marriott "Autograph Collection" and charge Autograph prices is a bit of a stretch. The suites are quite small/inconvenient layout and furnishings are on par with Fairfield Inn properties. The room had a layer of dust on the dresser and night stand. No luxury towels or bed linens. One of the days during our stay there was no valet on duty, but we were still charged for valet parking. Along with a few other minor inconveniences added up to a not worth the price experience...meaning not memorable. Next time we will probably stay at the Courtyard Marriott. To date, Marriott does not have a Lucy property in Charlottesville, VA.

As someone who is always traveling for work and staying in multiple hotels a month, I was very impressed with my stay here at the Draftsman. The front desk provided excellent customer service and my room was incredible. I loved the view of the mountains and the proximity of this hotel to the corner. The lobby was decorated beautifully for the holidays and there was a bar at the bottom floor that was incredibly lively. I love this hotel and would come back in a heartbeat!

After a few turns, we located it across the street from another similar hotel. It was close to, but before, check-in time. We were allowed to proceed up to the room anyway. This is one of the larger Homewood Suites I've stayed at. Most of them seem to be roughly the same size, though layouts differ. This one seemed about 50% bigger than usual. The parking lot was large also. They still had a masks-in-public-spaces policy (maybe due to local / state governments?) but it was only semi-observed. To their credit, breakfast seemed to be back to pre-pandemic normal - it was a buffet with most of what passed for regular items circa early 2020. I'd gotten accustomed to reduced selections over the past 18 months, but it was heartening to see this. We were only there one night, so we only enjoyed breakfast on Wednesday. Check in and check out were handled quickly. We had no issues with the room. Despite being adjacent to the elevator area, the room was quiet. The property was within a 10-minute drive of the University campus also. Restaurants and grocery stores were within walking distance, if needed. I'd gladly stay here again.

It was nice to be walking distance from shops and restaurants, but it was also conveniently located close to a highway, which made driving to other places easy. We didn't drive our EV, but they had free charging for guests, and most of the time the chargers were not occupied. The breakfast provided was pretty standard, buffet-style - bacon, eggs, waffles / pancakes, toast, bagels, yogurt, cereal, fruit, coffee, juices, etc. One small hiccup was that both of our room keys no longer worked randomly, even though I didn't have it close to my cell phone. It was a minor inconvenience, but we had to go back to the front desk to get it re-activated.

We also enjoyed the indoor pool for some swimming. I also would like to shout out Sonya. She was the only staff working during our night but she was the best part of our stay. She had a warm smile and was great to engage with. She made our food and even helped with extra blankets and some fruit. Her positive energy was contagious and she worked to guarantee we enjoyed our stay.

I haven't stayed at many places that feel more like a five-star resort than this one. Driving up to the property felt like being in a car commercial, rolling hills, gorgeous scenery, and impeccable service waiting the moment we arrived. Check-in was seamless. We stayed in one of the rooms in the new wing, which was absolutely stunning. In 2017, the hotel completed a multi-year, $2 million renovation and expansion, and it shows in every detail. Our room overlooked the grounds and was part of the beautiful new addition. The room itself was spacious and elegant, with a wonderfully comfortable bed and a cozy nook perfect for reading or relaxing. The bathroom was equally luxurious and practically begged for a long shower. Waiting for us in the room was a handwritten note wishing us a wonderful mother-daughter trip, along with thoughtful gifts from the spa. Another nice touch: branded, reusable water bottles to use at the filling stations around the property. I loved this sustainability piece that doubles as a keepsake. During our stay, I walked the grounds, visited the spa, and toured the Southern Living Idea House which is on its ground, though honestly, this is the kind of hotel where simply staying on property feels like a vacation. Because we visited in winter, the pool was closed, but seeing it made me want to return in the spring. The fitness center was well appointed, the tennis court s and area were beautiful, and the championship golf course was gorgeous! I'm not a golfer, but I loved looking at this course from the mini windows and patios overlooking it! I'll share more about the spa in a separate review, but trust me, it is not to be missed. And the on-site restaurant, Marigold, is an absolute delight. Jean-Georges' effortless style comes through in both the ambiance and the food. We enjoyed two dinners and a brunch there, and I genuinely wish I could have eaten even more. Wow. Another standout perk is the fleet of BMWs available for guests to check out and explore the surrounding area. We chose to only venture out once, to Jefferson Vineyard, but there is plenty to explore in the greater Charlottesville area for those wanting more. In closing, this hotel is incredible! Perfectly styled and wonderfully relaxing. I will be thinking about it and my lovely time there for many years to come!

From the moment we checked in, every staff member we interacted with went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They also provided us with a lot of recommendations which we appreciated. When we first arrived, we had a quick lunch at the grille. It overlooked the driving range with a beautiful view. They had a lot of food options. I got the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. We also dined at Marigold each morning for breakfast, as it was included in our stay. The omelet was amazing! We ate at Marigolds for dinner as well the last night, and the food was truly unbelievable. There's clearly a focus on fresh, local ingredients, and the menu offers something for everyone. Highly recommend the truffle pizza and the shrimp salad! We also took advantage of the spa during our stay. We each had a massage / facial. The spa was also beautifully set up, and I really enjoyed the steam room and sauna. The only thing that would've made it even better is if there was a private pool for the spa guests to use as well. The massage was wonderful though and very relaxing! We also got to enjoy the pool. It wasn't too crowded and the pool itself was luxurious. Keswick Hall is truly a gem in Charlottesville. We left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!

When we finally decided on this hotel, mainly because it was halfway to our final destination of Pennsylvania, and it looked quite interesting, I had trouble booking through their webpage. Maybe you can blame it on me? I just couldn't quite get the system to accept the "check in--checkout" dates. So I gave them a call and booked through a representative located in Las Vegas Vegas. Everything went smoothly. She was very friendly and accommodating. We actually loved the curvy roads leading up to the winery and hotel. That portion of the trip would've been better in our roadster for sure! We were checked in by a friendly gentleman named Thomas. He gave us a room next to the outdoor pool. Finishings kind of reminded us a little bit of the accommodations. It was peacefully decorated, and mostly comfortable except for the couch. We were only using it to lounge in and something more comfortable would have been desirable. I took advantage of the dry sauna and hot tub, which was a short walk across the parking lot. We tried to take advantage of the grounds by walking around the small lake and through the fields. If they were in a dedicated walking trails, we didn't find them! We took a tour of the main house and enjoyed our French inspired continental breakfast, though croissants would've been a nice touch! The vistas from the winery and the hotel are quite spectacular! Yes, that would have worked, but I also would have missed the experience here. Being off season one cannot take in all the amenities like the pool, some of the outdoor activities, and just the ability to lounge or otherwise enjoy the surrounds while staying here. However, it still turned out to be a great experience. You need to pass through a double gate to get to the lobby. The first one would take you to the Trump Winery and the second one to the Estate itself. Yes, it is still a hotel, but it feels like a country club from start to finish. The place is small enough where they, for the most part, go off your name. Dinner reservation? Okay, here is your table. Done? There is no tab (or tip for that matter). Yes, you still need to pay for it, but it just goes on your room bill seamlessly. Want something? Just ask. From the tiny two-seat bar to anything else, service is pretty personal here. For dinner the ESTATE SALAD - Arcadian green mix topped with tomato, watermelon radish, goat cheese and golden beets dressed with Trump Blanc de Blanc vinaigrette, was amazing. My main of DUCK - Pan roasted medium-rare duck breast with cherry port wine sauce, honey glazed rainbow carrots, wild rice pilaf with estate grown herbs, was the best duck I have had in a very long time. Plus, having a flight of Trump wine (white in this case) gave me a preview of the winery I would get to tomorrow. The Viognier I found to be the surprise interest out of the four I tried.
