I used to be stationed at McGuire so this was easy to hop right outside the Ft Dix gate and grab lunch... but If you aren't stationed at McGuire/Ft Dix, this place might feel in the middle of nowhere... but it's worth the drive... trust me!!! I am no longer stationed here, but still make a 45 minute trip JUST to pick up and get our fix. Tips: 1.) Located in a small strip mall right outside the Ft Dix gate, across from Taco Bell and right next to 7/11. They have pizzeria bench style seating inside if you are dining in. 2.) Orders are made fresh... so you are either going to wait a bit if you're dining in or should call 45 minutes out from when you expect to pick up. If that irritates you, well, then find another Afghan restaurant, which I guarantee you doesn't match this place. 3.) You have your pick of chicken or lamb with rice or either of the two on a gyro. I always go for the #1 (chicken, rice with a side salad (all comes in one box) -- the serving size is PLENTY... and I always have leftovers, which are just as good reheated the next day... there is also an option for the meat over a larger salad, but this is no fun, as the rice is delicious! But yeah, I get it, I diet too! 4.) They have a white sauce and a spicer green sauce... both are AMAZING! Slab it on everything... the salad, the chicken, the rice, ALL OF IT! 5.) if you're lucky and nice, they'll throw in a container of their special chick peas. The same with the sauces, just pour some on top of your chicken and rice... put the sauce on top -- eat with a fork or the pita that comes with the meal (or your hands if you're into that). 6.) Everything is so fresh here. The salad is crisp, the rice is deliciously flavored, the chicken is out of this world. No fat, grizzle... all white breast meat. Perfection! This meal could potentially be my death row last meal choice...... if I were in that position (I'm not!!). read more

Food was actually really good. just expensive when you see the portion sizes they need to lower the price if they're going to be serving near child size portions. Also you can't use credit or debit because they're cheap and want to cut down costs and have all their profit go to them and not pay a percentage to the card companies. Doesn't update menu so there's only like 5 things. The guy at the register with glasses will get smart with you and say "everything on our menu is up there" basically being a dick. Speaking of that guy with the glasses at the cash register he's one of those cynical short guys so if you sense he's giving you attitude or being a dick he's probably just over compensating for something. First of all I called in my order and the guy taking my order was I bit rude but maybe he was in a rush. I ordered the chicken and lamb meal and when I got there I asked for extra sauce and it seemed like a really hard task for him to do it took him a while. I don't mind spending a lot on a meal, if the meal is good. The price for the lunch meal was a bit pricey and not all that great. Soup was pretty good but the main meal wasn't. Me and my family went out for dinner at Afghan Kabob. The owner Fareed and the worker Chris were both absolutely phenomenal. They were not only so friendly, but provided great service. In additional to the wonderful customer service, the food was exceptional. Both the chicken and lamb had a lot of flavor and the serving size was big enough for two individuals to comfortably eat. My mother asked for green tea and the owner was kind enough to even make her some. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone and will be coming back very soon! read more

Just had my first Afghani meal. Chicken and Lamb Kabob with rice, chickpeas, salad, and pita bread. As the sign says inside the restaurant, "This is not a fast food restaurant, everything is freshly made to order." This place is the prime example as to why you should never judge a book by its cover. It's a small middle eastern restaurant by a military base in South Jersey that is serving up some serious eats! The food is absolutely delicious and the amount you are given for around $13-$15 is ridiculous. One container can feed 2 people or you can save half for later OR pig the hell out and shove it all down your throat in one sitting. Your choice. Everything is seasoned perfectly and the guys who work there are really nice. The owner has a certain type of humor on touchy subjects so hopefully you aren't easily offended.. It's just his nature. Love the food! Customer service with the wait staff (1 guy) sucks. They need to update their hours of operation. The owner came to the door and yelled that they were closed but the open sign was lit. Plus your hours of operation online need to be adjusted if you are closed. That episode plus the poor customer service turned me off from going back. read more

Eat here if you're visiting Fort Dix. As noted, cash only. It's a little pricey for lunch, but you will wind up with 2 lunches, so either split something with a buddy (maybe with a side dish) or bring home leftovers. The food here was great. Everything is prepared as it is ordered, and it could take a little time (perhaps another constraint on lunch), but if you have the time, it's well worth it. My friend and I ordered one chicken plate, one lamb plate, a side of chickpeas, and two sambosas. The meat was tender, tasty, spicy and delicious. Tip from the owner: mix the chickpeas with some of the rice (included along with a salad as part of the meal) and some of the tzatziki-like yogurt sauce. I preferred it without the sauce, but to each his own. The sambosas (think: samosas) were hot and wonderful, and the side of chickpeas was impressive enough to have been part of any main meal. Extremely difficult experience trying to place a take out order. Not a language issue but the order taker quickly got a bad attitude because he felt I was taking too long to order. Very odd. Never got to actually try any food - I decided to terminate the transaction. Disorganized places like this which don't have patience for customers set off alarms in my mind. If they can't manage simple stuff like taking and tracking telephone orders how do they handle the day to day activities like produce management and hygiene. Hmm, probably best to give this place a miss and go to the Afghan on route 33. The owner probably relies on the captive clientele from the base who have few other options (the Wendy's across the street is the alternative) but this is not for me - I have choices and I chose not to frequent restaurants with bad service or bad attitude. read more

Delicious! Okay my yelpers remember to bring CASH to his fine establishment;at least $20-30. I recommend the lamb salad with chickpeas. Between Sebastian's and Afghan Kabob, Wrightstown makes for a pretty damn awesome gourmet district, if you were to take away the fact that well, Afghan Kabob and Sebastian's are probably the only two "restaurants" in the entire Wrightstown area. Useless quips aside, Afghan Kabob is so good that it almost seems out of place. The quality of food being served here belongs probably in Center City Philadelphia, or maybe even TriBeCa in NYC; but alas, we should be so lucky to be blessed with such an authentic and amazing choice right here in Jersey! I had the lamb kabob here and it absolutely blew me away. The meat was so perfectly seasoned that the gamey flavor of lamb was totally absent from the meat itself; I can honestly say I've had beef that tasted wilder than Afghan Kabob's lamb. I also don't know what it is about the rice here, but it is absolutely delectable--I made the foolish decision of lathering their beef with the lentil soup/sauce thing that comes out with your meal, but the rice just by itself is full of flavor. I don't recommend drowning your meat in the green sauce (I have no idea what it's called, i'm sorry) -- whereas little bits of it add a nice little spice to your meal overall, it makes everything a little saltier if you go overboard. My only complaint for this place is that the preparation seems to take quite a bit of time; it took over forty minutes for them to bring us our food, which didn't seem all that long since the employees were very personable and were not at all reserved to share their thoughts about Afghan food and culture. I love this place and I come here every chance I get! I get the chicken kebob platter every time and it is consistently good! It's a ton of food (I eat a lot and it usually gets me 3 meals) and they throw in the chickpeas too. Oh and their pita is so soft and delicious. The chickens is full of flavor and well-marinated. The long-grain rice is very good, too (but not fantastic). The owners are so nice and always talkative and welcoming! This place. I am in LOVE. This is the best Afghan food I have ever had - and I literally have Afghan food 2-3 times a week in Philly. Hands down, this place is #1. I came here with my family as a party of 6 and I tell you, we ordered everything. So I can tell you with complete authority that everything here is delicious. The meats melt in your mouth, they are so flavorful and juicy it should be illegal! The rice is perfectly seasoned and compliments the meats perfectly and the bread, oh the bread - sublime! My friend and I wanted a yummy meal and good conversation, and having grown up in nearby New Egypt, knew our options were limited. We decided to try Wrightstown anyway, figuring we could always get takeout Taco Bell (lol) if needed. We happened upon Afghan Kabob and took a chance even though the outside is sort of industrial looking and is sat in a plaza that looks a bit low-quality. When we got inside though, the decor was nice and open, and the people were super friendly. In fact, the guys behind the counter made awesome conversation with us and were very very helpful. And the food?! OUT OF THIS WORLD. The chicken kabob salad was HUGE, and dressed with amazing seasoning and tastes. The chicken was tender, well-spiced, and the portion was amazing for the low price. Also the chutney? WOW. My friend got the chicken and lamb platter and he was similarly blown away. The rice was delicious, and so was the creamy sauce. Our cardamom tea was VERY sweet but also very good. And the owner also came by to check on us a few times--awesome service. Will have to try the firni and samosas next time. So delicious-looking. I am sad that this awesome place seems wasted for a town like ours--which doesn't seem receptive to different cuisines. I hope people try and be adventurous and visit this place more often. I heard about this place on my visit from a few locals. I wasn't sure what to expect, but based on my previous experience with Kabob in Europe, I knew that I had a hunger and the only thing that cold satisfy it was a Kabob. The owner has Afghan roots and serves up the most amazing authentic food. If you plan on ordering keep in mind this man makes everything fresh on spot (this isn't your typical fast food place) and it takes about 20 minutes from the time you order. The man who works here is super funny but just as a disclaimer, he has no filter and will say anything and everything. I went to this place based on the recommendations from base personnel as well as the reviews on this site. I must say I was very, very pleased. I was not sure where they were located, but once I hit the counter at Fort Dix Street, I saw the BIG red letters and knew exactly where to go. I went in and was pleasantly greeted by the counter guy (I think he was one of the owners) who explained the menu and helped me select my meal. This guy was so so nice, I mean he helped me and then he explained about afghan culture. The other reviews are correct, it does take time for the food to come once you place your order, but it is well worth the wait. I ordered the chicken kabob, and it came with rice, salad and bread. Then to make my visit better, I was given a free bowl of chickpeas. The owner explained how to eat the chickpeas and since I never had chickpeas before, I was a little hesitant. But the once I did what he told me to do, I can say that I now like chickpeas - LoL. I also tried the cilantro sauce and it was so good especially over the rice. The customer service here is so great - they will do what they need to do to make sure you enjoy your food and have a pleasant experience. I got to tell you, if you are in the Wrightstown NJ area, do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant. You will be glad you did!! read more
