Afes has been the internet service of choice for people that can't deal with the likes of AT&T or Wave in the Woodland and surrounding area. If you live in areas that doesn't have internet service like Capay Valley, Yolo, Sutter and Colusa Counties. they offer Wireless High Speed service which is awesome because I do not have a landline. When i have problems calling tech support has always solved my problem quickly. I talked to, I think his name was Richard was quick to solve my problem and took the time with me. I didn't feel rushed and was professional and courteous. I know this internet service is a small locally owned business so having a staff covering the hours they cove is amazing. Downtime is no worse then the big guys. Since we should stay at home because of the freaking Covid-19 virus have high speed, wireless, reliable internet service is a MUST. I live way out in the country and had spent two years without internet, when several other companies couldn't connect me. After discovering AFES, they assessed the situation, came out, and hooked up our home with no problem whatsoever!! Dusty was extremely friendly and explained the setup process so that I could understand. He also showed me how everything worked so that I could troubleshoot and be informed if I needed to call in. I recently called for support to inquire why my service was intermittently unavailable. I was transferred me to Dustin who, to my surprise, asked about my previous Yelp review for AFES. He asked if I was satisfied with the service they have provided. Caught offguard, I said that yes, it had been pretty stable for quite some time. At his behest, I am adding the following feedback. Thanks to the skill-level and interpersonal skills demonstrated by John (I believe he is the owner), the service we receive from AFES has been adequate. John is fantastic. It is because I hold him in such high regard that I provide honest feedback - this is his company and he CARES about his customers. I feel "safe" knowing that I can reach out to John and wish that feeling extended to the rest of the AFES staff. 1. Professionalism and customer service. When you receive an unflattering review, the objective is to asses the problem and fix it. To date, when I call AFES for support (and on the off-chance that I am not immediately transferred to John), I am still asked which tower I connect to. Why do you do this? That would be like my asking my customers what their IP address is. Most people are not going to know this. Case in point, you know I do not know which tower I connect to. Why not just add a note to my account with that information? It would give me the impression that someone besides John has things under control. On a more serious note, when I called you that day to express my frustration with the support I'd received, the appropriate response would have been to listen to my feedback and address the source of my frustration. Instead, when you arrived at my home to swap the radio device, you expressed anger to my husband over my call, stating that you were not the most "even-tempered" person, and that if you had not been in the wrong, you'd have simply shut off our service. If this had been over the phone, it would still have been pretty bad. This encounter took place in person, in our home during a service appointment. You are correct. An even-tempered person would not have walked into someone's home and exhibited hostile, threatening behavior. To date, neither my husband nor I have received an apology for this incident. 2. Downtime Communication. As you know, a lot of folks work from home these days. Companies depend on their staff being able to work remotely - and we depend on you. We get that equipment needs maintenance and that there will be service interruptions. My ask is that you implement a mass-communication system that will allow you to send notifications to your customers when there will be (or is currently) a service interruption so that folks can plan accordingly. I know you have a networks status section on your website but if folks have no Internet access, this type of notification won't be accessible. There are software systems that are inexpensive and can send mass email (that folks could access using cell signal) or text messages When an outage occurs, just letting folks know what's going on provides a great deal of relief and would cut down on calls to your office. An email message as simple as "We're performing equipment maintainance at BeeHive Tower between 4:00 and 6:00 PM on 11/20/20. Service will be intermittent during that time." would be so incredibly valuable - especially to folks who work remotely. 3. Humble yourself. Rather than be defensive, try to understand why I was upset. I had hoped your takeaway from my review would not be that I had verbally attacked your family but that I was upset over something that could be easily fixed. I provided details to make you aware of the situation so that it could be corrected. Negative feedback is painful. I have received my share having worked in IS for 14 years. As unlikely as it seems, criticism is a gift. It affords you the opportunity to take something that isn't working and make it better. For AFES, customer service (that doesn't involve John) needs a lot of improvement. Don't be upset by this feedback. Don't try to shuffle me off to John. Listen to your customers. Get some customer service training if need be. There is no shame in it. Hell, EarthLink Network had actual classes in which they taught support staff what to say and how to say it and they won awards for customer service. While I could rave about the awesome support John has provided, the onus of managing customer relationships should not be on one man. I hope that you will support him by striving to bring everyone at AFES up to his level of customer service skill. read more

I am giving AFES 2 stars only because the alternative is Hughes network (even more expensive with no service to speak of). I pay $130 a month for this service. It is a decent speed sometimes but stops working a minimum of 3 times a day on a GOOD day. The customer service is unbelievably terrible. The "tech" who answers the phone may ask if I am so-and-so customer out on Matmor and then abruptly say "I have to call her back!" And hang up the phone. Or he may inform me that he is at dinner and can't help me right then. Or, if he is on his game, he may ask what tower you are connecting to. If you don't know what tower you connect to, well God help you. Somehow, providing your name, address and phone number is not enough for this tech to "find" you in the database. Additionally, he will sound aghast that you don't know...as if YOU are the intellectually challenged one. Dave is a smidge arrogant but at least the man knows his technology. However, if you find yourself on the phone for support with Richard, hang up and try your luck another time - unless you are morbidly curious and just want to see what pitiful excuse for customer service this experience will be. Owner of AFES, if you read this, I would advise keeping Richard off the phones and away from customers. He is one of those special folks who just has no grasp of what to say to customers - and what not to say. More recently, I called for support and it was determined that the radio is defective and is the reason for the unstable service. Dave began monitoring the service to rule out the radio beyond any doubt (expensive and a pain to replace). For a day or two, the service was fine. Then the service became unstable again. My fiancé called for support and spoke with Richard who informed him that he was at dinner. Really?! You answer the support line to let the customer know you are at dinner? Later that day, he called back to confirm that Dave was scheduled to be here between 1 and 3 to fix the radio. 3:00 pm passed. No Dave. Fiancé called back. Dave has no idea he was supposed to be here but assured us that he will be here first thing in the morning. Soooo here we are. This expensive internet "service" (that costs more than Comcast triple play) yo-yos along. We will see if Dave shows up. Frankly, if I had ANY other choice of reliable, high speed Internet, AFES would not see my hind-end for the dust. That said, I am thankful that we have Internet at all. It could be worse...at least the Richards of the world are more widely dispersed and not condensed into one office. Fastforward to today. Dave was not here at 10:00. This is where we are supposed to act surprised. I called and spoke with Jamie who told me that the window was 10 to noon. He remarked "I don't even get to work until 10." So around 11:30 Dave and Jamie arrived. They swapped the radio and then Dave proceeded to tell my fiance (I was at work) that he is not a very even tempered man and that he did not appreciate my attacks on his family. He said that normally, in this type of situation, he would just cut off my Internet service. Yep. It's like that. So! Since I have paid for one more month of this award-winningly horrific service provided by a family-run company of child-like, wannabe techs with "uneven" tempers and delicate little egos, I will switch to Viasat in a few weeks. Stay away from this company folks. It is a joke on multiple levels. Look at the website. That shoddy work says it all. read more

My husband & I live in the country of Dixon & we haven't been able to get an internet service for the 3 years we lived here. My brother in law, our neighbor, found this company & let me just say THEY ARE AMAZING!!! John was the friendly man who picked up when I called about the service & he went over all the details with me! He went over pricing, how soon they could get out to get us internet & how the service works. They were able to come out in the matter of two days! EXTREMELY affordable, compared to the other "internet" companies that offer service for the country. Dustin, the installer came out late in the evening so my husband could be home (I just had a baby 3 days before) so it was amazing they could work with our schedule!!! This business is very family oriented, very respectful and they are ON TOP OF IT. I would recommend to my family & all my friends, because I'd want them to have the best service possible. We tried their service for a while, but they only delivered an unreliable speed of just under 1mbps on an advertised speed of 3mbps. When I asked them why I should pay for a 3mbps package when I was barely getting 1mbps, they told me "it's not about what we deliver, it's about what we push." Then they seemed to suggest that I should sign up for a more expensive package with the theory that if they "pushed" more I might actually get to the 3mbps I was paying for on the less expensive plan. I looked around and found a local provider who has reliably DELIVERED 3mbps, as promised, on their 3mbps plan. The quality of the AFES website appears to be a strong indication of the quality of the infrastructure and service one can expect from this provider. read more

I can't believe it. After going through a broadband that stopped working when the neighbors trees grew too tall. And wasn't all that speedy to begin with. Then the horrible Hughesnet mistake. Slow (molasses) I finally have service as if I were in town. Fast. Pages open quickly. I can stream a movie and a YouTube event and check my security cameras at the same time. If you live in an area that isn't easily supported, try AFES. Plus local family are great people with which to do business. I've had this service for a couple weeks now. I LOVE IT. I can actually use my phone and watch a streaming video at the same time. No glitches. Consistent service. AAA+. After suffering through two previous vendors I can say I've found a home. read more

If you live in a rural area that is serviced by this company and you choose their competition you would be making a poor choice! I speak from experience that almost cost me a bunch of money. After being a customer for several years the grass looked greener from a Satellite provider I made the leap and was not happy. I WANTED AFES BACK Before My Tryout With The Satellite company (Hughes Net do some research before you sign any paperwork) Luckily for me AFES took me back. (no promise to you but my story is they didn't charge me to reset my service and threw in some cable to hardwire a game console!) I tired to get their service. I was going between them and Verizon LTE, but I wanted to see what speeds AFES had. I put off getting my Verizon service because they said they were going to check their tower, repoint the antennae array, and get back to me. I Waited...and I called three times and no response despite leaving messages I needed to make a decision. I have to admit after seeing their web site that looks like it was made with FrontPage back in 1995 I am not surprised, and was concerned responsiveness might be an issue. I was prepared to pay them 130.00 a month for their 5Mbps service but now that money is going to have to go to Verizon instead because you can't do business with folks who never call you back. read more

The internet service that I have with AFES is excellent. I have never had a problem with the speed of my internet access. They are a rural internet service. My business is in Woodland and I have their service for my internet, e-mail and web sites. You have to really talk to them to become a client within Woodland City limits, but I have never been unhappy with them as a client. They are responsive and give excellent service. read more

Honestly ive been with AFES Wireless for a decent bit of time im the kind of customer that loves great customer service and honestly dustin and his crew are simply awesome anytime i call and have a question its never the run around and they are straight and to the point about everything yes the bill is quite high for lower speeds than what im used to when i lived in woodland i had wave broadband and their service was great speeds were good but the the customer service just sucked AFES WIRELESS again amazing customer service for the more rural communities internet out here near esparto highly recommend AFES Wireless. read more
