If you like lamb and spicy food, this is the place for you. We ordered the Laghman ( hand pull noodles with beef ), stir fried beef honeycomb tribe and roasted lamb rib. Everything was spectacular!!!! Be careful with ordering spicy dishes here because it can be REALLY spicy. We ordered the Laghman non spicy version, but it was still spicy due to the chili peppers they use to stir fried with. Don't get me wrong, it's good tho!!! Xinjiang cuisine leans toward the warm spiciness of chili peppers and cumin making it different than the numbing sensation spiciness from Sichuan peppercorn. Their chili peppers were brought from California. It definitely added a kick to their noodles dishes. I'd recommend to get the homemade yogurt drink. It will help to alleviate the spiciness and your stomach will thank you later. Service was very nice and friendly. The manager also gave me a reusable tote bag before we left. The restaurant is clean and cute. I'll definitely come back for their desserts and other dishes. read more

Since there is a plethora of pictures to browse, I didn't take any during my visit. I cannot say anything more than what has been said over and over in the reviews. This place is awesome. You must try it, and make sure you order the fried mushrooms. They are not like anything I have ever had. We ordered Laghman, Lamb Kebab, and Lamb shank polo. The Laghman portion was extremely small--only four tiny pieces of meat accompanied by some tomatoes and bell peppers. Nothing looked like the pictures. The lamb kebab was very fatty and also had a disappointingly small amount of meat, 3 stars is for that Lamb Shank polo, delicious. I can't say enough great things about this gem of a restaurant. First, know that this is NOT the Chinese food you're used to, and that's a very good thing. But, it also means this place may take some time to become popular. Note: I've been wanting to go here for a while and I don't live locally, so I over-ordered. We got three appetizers (go big or go home sad): the delicious spring rolls (perfectly light and crispy and came with a creamy sauce I enjoyed a lot!), the pumpkin and beef sambosas (lightly sweet and so flavorful), and the leek pastries (I love leeks so I was totally into this one; these were shaped like empanadas). All three were so good and fried to perfection. They were served hot. Only the spring roll resembled what you'd expect, and none of them disappointed! My mom got the laghman, which features incredible hand-pulled noodles, onions, peppers, and small slices of beef in a lightly spicy sauce (dialed down for my mom). It was visually stunning and there were lots of flavors going on with the beef, noodles, peppers, garlic slices, and whatever other magic is in it. Wow. I got the small Big Plate Chicken, and the name is accurate! The platter is about 14" in diameter, and it was full and, again, visually stunning. It comes with a side of the flavorful hand-pulled noodles. It does have bones in it; I ate the off-bone parts so I can savagely tear into the rest of it later at home when no one is looking. A decadent mix of vegetables, chicken, and spices. The general spice level was quite mild, but a lot of different flavors jump out and it's just so delicious. I have to say, it was super difficult to decide which dishes to get. The photos and descriptions were all tempting. We didn't get any drinks or dessert, as I forgot about the former and was way too full for the latter. Note that baklava is on the menu--again, this is not the Chinese you're expecting. But it absolutely IS the Chinese you deserve! The decor is wonderfully simple and you can see the Chinese, Arabic, etc. influences in it. The plates are beautiful. The service was amazing--our server was warm and delightful, and the food came out very quickly. This place needs more business. Read the description of the cultural influences on the Afandi website so you can really get a sense of the gift you will be giving yourself and the gift that Uyghur cuisine is to the region. We will not see this cuisine again. You can typically only get this in Chicago, New York, etc. If you love to travel and you want to experience a rare gem of a restaurant, visit Afandi soon and then keep visiting Afandi so we can keep it in St. Louis. read more

First time eating Uyghur food, a true delight. Afandi was very accommodating, preparing a table for 18 diners ranging from 2 to 80. Diner Tip: eat family style, many dishes will easily feed more than 2 and it's always fun to share and try different foods. And save room for their yogurt! Mala Chicken, Tomatoes and Eggs, Lamb, Oxtail Soup, Crispy Oyster Mushrooms, Big Plate Chicken, Hand Pulled Noodles, all delicious. My friend and I checked out this Uygur restaurant after a day of trail running in the Chesterfield area. We came in starving and left happy with our bellies warm and full. The service was fast and friendly. The food came out pretty quickly. We had the pumpkin sambosa, chive pockets, the classic lamb skewers, lamb polo, and lamb soup, there may have been a theme. Their polo is probably my favorite, very well seasoned and filling. The lamb soup is simple and delicious, hits the spot , but could have been doctored up a bit more. I'll definitely have to be back. What a great addition to Chesterfield and the greater St. Louis area! I love to eat Asian food and try new things and the cuisine at Afandi Kitchen is unlike anything I have tasted before. The flavors are so rich and halal meat very tender. I had such a memorable and delicious dining experience here recenly. In the grilled section, I tried the Signature Lamb Kebab and Uyghur Grilled Chicken, both of which were bursting with flavors I've never encountered before truly exceptional. The Laghman was another highlight of the meal; its rich, savory taste left a lasting impression, and it quickly became one of my favorite dishes. To top off the meal, I indulged in their desserts Homemade Yogurt, Afandi Rice Pudding, and the Chocolate Pecan Baklava. Went there with a group, all of which, had never been there before. We ordered several different dishes and each looked very delicious and they tasted just liked they looked!! Our server was able to describe the dishes for us to help in making our selections. Even ran into my cardiologist having lunch so I assume it is all heart healthy! We all were very satisfied and will be putting Afandi Kitchen on our rotation. During my Peace Corps experience, I lived with a Uyghur family in Kazakstan and cherished their love and cuisine. It is very difficult to find anything in the west that compares to the food I lived on for 2 years and I long for it constantly. Online ordered the take out lunch food for my office, reserved pickup time on 11am. When I got there the food just ready to pick. The served carefully packed with all the sauces I wanted. I ordered the lamb polo, cumin lamb slices stirred fired with lamb, two laghman, Mala Sautéed chicken. All the food is fabulous, my whole office love those so much. This is a gem in the Chesterfield Valley. The Uyghur menu is unique. We tried the Lamb Polo- a lamb shank served over a rice pilaf. With all due respect to my agreed friends, this may be my favorite lamb entry in town. Cooked perfectly with a flavorful finish that is not greasy as lamb can be. We tried the flash-fried oysters and they were light and delicious. Even the braised rice, cooked with carrots, raisin, onion and flavored with cumin was a superb way to support the lamb. For an appetizer, we loved the pumpkin sambosas, which were fried perfectly- and the pumpkin and beef mixture stuffed inside was unique and is a reorder on our next visit. Get the Afandi Special Tea as a nice complement to the rich servings. The service was very casual and wonderfully polite. Get out and support this unique dining experience! read more

This is a great new find. I had never encountered Uyghur/Xinjiang cuisine before. It seems to be a mix of Chinese & Persian - so pretty much central Asian. But good. All our food was well seasoned, which I always want. The big plate chicken really is big, even the small option. Could have fed two of us easily. It comes with a small side of hand made, flat noodles that were delicious. Chicken and vegetables were tender and flavorful. I pulled out a half dozen or so chilies - didn't want to kill myself by eating one. The waiter said he had told them not to make it too spicy. I wonder how many chilies would have been in there otherwise. The dish was moderately spicy, but easily bearable for a spice baby like me. The wife's brown sauce laghman had great, round noodles with tasty crumbled beef. And the daughter's house made meat ball soup with clear noodles was another winner for a savory umami hit. Waiter was friendly and helpful, and service was prompt. The dishes came out quickly, but separately, which was a bit odd. But they weren't so spaced out that it felt uncomfortable. read more

A MUST Try!!!!!!!! Out running errands in the valley and looking for a place to eat. We knew of the usual suspects and then my husband found Afandi. I was curious so we went. It was a quaint store front restaurant. We were welcomed immediately and provided a wonderful menu with pictures, descriptions and a background story. We had a pot of warm tea while we chose our entrees. I chose the Uyghur Salad and dry stir fried laghman vegetarian. He chose the ox tail soup and Uyghur spring rolls. The salad was so fresh and delicious I it in bulk. The hand pulled noodles were amazing and so flavorful. My husband loves oxtail soup and was raised on it. He said it was amazing but did want more vegetables. The dinner was topped off with the an excellent baklava. The restaurant is bright & clean, the service was fast & efficient & the wait staff was very attentive.
